Katz's Delicatessen New York Reviews from The Last Year

If I could only go to one restaurant in NYC, I'm running to Katz's, hands down. The meat was so tender, warm, amazing balance with light mustard on rye bread. Simple yet the best. The service was unique as you use the ticket to order. I went on Tuesday around noon so barely waited in line. Inside is bigger than you'd expect to see from the outside, cozy and welcoming from kind workers.

This place is about as iconic as it gets when it comes to NYC and the quality of the meat lives up to the hype. The workers are constantly working and they do it while having genuine conversations with you. The pickles are fantastic and the classic pastrami is fantastic. The prices are a bit outrageous but you are paying for the iconic name as well.

A Classic NYC Deli Experience with Delicious Pastrami
Katz's Deli is an iconic establishment that truly embodies the spirit of New York City dining. During our visit, we indulged in their renowned Pastrami sandwich, which did not disappoint in flavor or portion size. However, at $30 for a single sandwich, it's undeniably on the pricier side, but understandable given its status as a tourist hotspot. The bustling atmosphere was both lively and chaotic, with patrons from all corners of the globe converging to savor a taste of authentic NYC deli cuisine. One slight inconvenience was the payment process; while you settle your bill on the way out, those paying by card are redirected to a different area, which could be streamlined for efficiency. Despite this minor hiccup, our overall experience was positive. The food was undeniably delicious, the ambiance vibrant, and the opportunity to rub elbows with fellow travelers from around the world added to the charm. Katz's Deli is a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic taste of New York City's culinary scene.

All I can say is that this place was amazing! I was scared it might be "touristy", but it was as authentic as could be. And ~$30 for a sandwich was a bargain, with the amount of meat that's on it.

The food is excellent! Be prepared for the long lines and unique way that one orders if you don't elect to sit in their small service section. My favorite is either the pastrami or corn beef sandwiches! The best in NY!
The turkey deli tastes real close loff the bone.
There are no topping except Mustard on the table. So you will Need to ask. There are no sugars in the table so you can't make a sugar packet house Was a large portion of turkey My kid had the bagel and lox. Not a lot of lox as I would of thought The waiter we were afraid to order stuff overall it was a good experience and enjoyable

Been going there since the 70's probably 2 or 3 times a year. Moved out of manhattan about 6 years ago. Been back today and everything looks the same, smells the same all be it that lines are much longer. I'd say I remember the way it used to taste and feel in your mouth. Went today and I can honestly say, the service was terrific but the food was really off. Brisket was dry, I was amazed as they are on steam tables. What the heck happened to this brisket???? Other 1/2 was a Reuben, kraut wasn't sour at all! Pastrami was ok but not knock your socks off as I am used to from years previous. Sadly I'm never going back after this. I can't pay $38 bucks for a 1/2 ass sandwich. Tourists won't no the damn difference and will for sure believe the hype, as for me, I remember what it should taste like. Sad but at my age it's a rare thing to indulge in such fatty foods. I feel like I wasted my cheat day on dried brisket and a sub par somewhat gelatinous pastrami with screwy kraut.

The pastrami sandwiches here are to die for.
.... I was never a fan of pastrami sandwiches but oh my god coming here had my taste buds budding cause wow! The workers cutting the meat and making the sandwiches were great as they kept giving samples of the pastrami while waiting. The line gets very long and it gets crowded inside so finding a table may be tough. Aside from how busy it gets, this place is a great eat!
Perfection in one place.
Great sandwich an iconic place must visit if you in New York!
Corned Beef to Die For!
Best corned beef in the world! There is always a line but it is worth it. The sandwiches and matzoh ball soup are terrific. We waited for a table and I am glad we did. We had a classic, wise cracking waiter. If you want the ultimate deli experience go to Katz’s.
Mouth watering
Delicious food, described as “Jewish barbecue” by the delightful server, I only wish that I had more room in my stomach to eat more, if only they had places like this in the UK
Terrible corned beef
Ordered a pound of corned beef. The other negative reviews here are true. We decided to take a chance because it's hard to find good corned beef in Tampa. It was thick, tough, flavor-less. We couldn't even eat it and had to make other arrangements last minute.
Best NY iconic pastrami
Great old-fashioned atmosphere. We had the pastrami sandwich, probably the best of my life, and sodas. It's maybe a little overpriced, due to so much hype, but it's worth a visit as it is a NY culinary icon.
Underwhelmed
I was slightly underwhelmed by the place - everyone said you must go but to be honest other than a ‘big sandwich’ it wasn’t anything special
Crazy busy but must do. Share your sandwich as they’re enormous!
Very touristy but really has to be done. Brace yourself for a long queue and a bunfight once you’re in, (even though it’s well organised it’s extremely popular and crazy busy) you’ll be squashed up on tables sharing with other tourists but I guess that’s all part of the experience. DO NOT order your own sandwich, share with at least one other person in your group as they are ENORMOUS. My husband and I shared a hot beef brisket which comes with a plate of gherkins, we also shared a side of potato salad which was lovely; add in 2 diet cokes and our bill was $41 after tax. Would recommend just so that you can tick the box and as NYC goes, lunch for two for 40 bucks isn’t bad going.
Dreadful
Waited nearly 2 hours (once you've waited an hour you may as well stay in the queue!) We wanted to try the famous pastrami, I make my own pastrami from scratch so wanted to try the famous Katz pastrami, what a let down. The place was like a cattle market, large canteen style, nothing like a deli, the seating was so close you couldn't even get into your seat and long tables like a school canteen. We had to ask several times why people arriving after us were seated before us and it was due to the party size, if you are just 2 people expect to treated like ****. The waitresses were impatient and miserable and the pastrami that was slapped down on our table was dreadful, it was fatty, had no flavour and was so chewy it was hard to eat it. The waiting staff starting clearing before we had finished, they were so keen to get you out for the next people. Poor quality, overpriced, tourist gimmick, dreadful. Then you have to queue to pay so despite waiting extra time to be seated for table service the table service doesn't include getting your bill and paying. We left thinking 'what he hell was that?' Biggest mistake of our New York trip.
