A Classic NYC Deli Experience with Delicious Pastrami
Katz's Deli is an iconic establishment that truly embodies the spirit of New York City dining. During our visit, we indulged in their renowned Pastrami sandwich, which did not disappoint in flavor or portion size. However, at $30 for a single sandwich, it's undeniably on the pricier side, but understandable given its status as a tourist hotspot. The bustling atmosphere was both lively and chaotic, with patrons from all corners of the globe converging to savor a taste of authentic NYC deli cuisine. One slight inconvenience was the payment process; while you settle your bill on the way out, those paying by card are redirected to a different area, which could be streamlined for efficiency. Despite this minor hiccup, our overall experience was positive. The food was undeniably delicious, the ambiance vibrant, and the opportunity to rub elbows with fellow travelers from around the world added to the charm. Katz's Deli is a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic taste of New York City's culinary scene.

This IS NOT a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals. 10/10 would not recommend. You may be attacked by employees. Not worth the medical bills for a $30 sandwich.

Delicious food, described as โJewish barbecueโ by the delightful server, I only wish that I had more room in my stomach to eat more, if only they had places like this in the UK
Be the first to ReplyCorned Beef to Die For!
Best corned beef in the world! There is always a line but it is worth it. The sandwiches and matzoh ball soup are terrific. We waited for a table and I am glad we did. We had a classic, wise cracking waiter. If you want the ultimate deli experience go to Katzโs.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible corned beef
Ordered a pound of corned beef. The other negative reviews here are true. We decided to take a chance because it's hard to find good corned beef in Tampa. It was thick, tough, flavor-less. We couldn't even eat it and had to make other arrangements last minute.
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelmed
I was slightly underwhelmed by the place - everyone said you must go but to be honest other than a โbig sandwichโ it wasnโt anything special
Be the first to ReplyBest NY iconic pastrami
Great old-fashioned atmosphere. We had the pastrami sandwich, probably the best of my life, and sodas. It's maybe a little overpriced, due to so much hype, but it's worth a visit as it is a NY culinary icon.
Be the first to ReplyCrazy busy but must do. Share your sandwich as theyโre enormous!
Very touristy but really has to be done. Brace yourself for a long queue and a bunfight once youโre in, (even though itโs well organised itโs extremely popular and crazy busy) youโll be squashed up on tables sharing with other tourists but I guess thatโs all part of the experience. DO NOT order your own sandwich, share with at least one other person in your group as they are ENORMOUS. My husband and I shared a hot beef brisket which comes with a plate of gherkins, we also shared a side of potato salad which was lovely; add in 2 diet cokes and our bill was $41 after tax. Would recommend just so that you can tick the box and as NYC goes, lunch for two for 40 bucks isnโt bad going.
Be the first to ReplyDreadful
Waited nearly 2 hours (once you've waited an hour you may as well stay in the queue!) We wanted to try the famous pastrami, I make my own pastrami from scratch so wanted to try the famous Katz pastrami, what a let down. The place was like a cattle market, large canteen style, nothing like a deli, the seating was so close you couldn't even get into your seat and long tables like a school canteen. We had to ask several times why people arriving after us were seated before us and it was due to the party size, if you are just 2 people expect to treated like ****. The waitresses were impatient and miserable and the pastrami that was slapped down on our table was dreadful, it was fatty, had no flavour and was so chewy it was hard to eat it. The waiting staff starting clearing before we had finished, they were so keen to get you out for the next people. Poor quality, overpriced, tourist gimmick, dreadful. Then you have to queue to pay so despite waiting extra time to be seated for table service the table service doesn't include getting your bill and paying. We left thinking 'what he hell was that?' Biggest mistake of our New York trip.
Be the first to ReplyBad. Rude staff
RUDE! RUDE! RUDE! Iโve eaten at Katz many times over the years. Today it was raining, long line outside - all but one person waiting for tables. . I was a self serve customer. I went in (because I was self serve) and the two guys would not let me order. Wanted me to wait in the โtableโ line. Sometimes businesses get a little too big for their britches and forget about the customer. Too bad. If it wasnโt pouring rain outside I might have waited (even though I didnโt want to sit at a table). Thereโs a lot of great food in NYC. Iโll pass in the future.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous pastrami on rye
I watched some YouTubes on where to eat to get the authentic New York and this was one of them. The deli is old has never changed and is literally heaving. It is so popular. Use have to collect a ticket on the way in and use it to pay on the way out (they write what you had on the back of the ticket). If you ask they will let you sample the meat. I tried both the pastrami and corn beef (itโs not from a can). The pastrami was the best. Make sure you also go for hot rather than cold. Also ad Swiss cheese and mustard ( much milder in the USA). We had a side of pickles and chips but the chips and drinks were from a different counter at the end further into the deli. For one sandwich, chips, pickles a lemonade and a beer we paid $48.95 plus tips. This sounds a lot but it was worth it for the taste and experience. The photos donโt do it justice this was a large sandwich.
Be the first to ReplyWorth a try, but not a do-over.
Am I glad I went? Yes. Would I go again? No. Katzโs is one of those iconic NYC spots worth visiting, if nothing else to say you have been there and to see what all the fuss is about. The โcutterโ of my pastrami was super nice and gave me a little sample while I was waiting. The pastrami was tender and full of flavor. That didnโt translate to a pastrami on rye with mustard that knocked my socks off. The Ruben looked amazing and I wish thatโs what I had tried. The latkeโs were way took thick, not seasoned, and the outer coating wasnโt nearly crunchy enough. The whole place is chaotic (some might say part of the charm). Pay in the front with cash, in the back with a card, you can get some of the food where the cutters are, but other orders and drinks in the back. Full service tables in the back, fend for yourself elsewhere (but you donโt even know that until youโve gone to get in the drink line). I will try another deli on my next visit.

As a first timer to NYC, this is one of the must go places in my list. Katz's Deli has been around for over 100 years, serving the same delicious Jewish delis.

Fab black and white cookies and sandwiches for this long standing deli, even at even at penn station
Be the first to ReplyLunch with dad
Where do i start I traveled all the way from Tennessee to take my dad out to lunch who lives in New Jersey when we arrived at the restaurant. My dad stumbled and almost fell down the tall 6 foot two black bouncer was so empathetic and amazing and he helped my father along into a seat he also was showed a lot of caring, he is an asset to your store. Secondly, this is the best pastrami sandwich Iโve ever had in my life and my father felt the same way about the corn beef. We will be back again thanks so much.

Itโs must have to visit in NY! For me one of best pastrami which I eat everywhere. Itโs a legend place to eat not healthy, but delicious meat
Be the first to ReplyDeli goodness!
So cool to go in and see first hand the busyness that is Katz. Absolutely gave the family institute vibe. Busy but service is efficient, they donโt muck around. Tables all filled with people dining in. Even the people in line waiting in front of me were super nice and offered some elite intel on what to get. Friendly service once you get up! A great deli & a great product. They live up to the hype.
Be the first to ReplyA must go !
If you are visiting New York you have to eat at Katz's. For lunch I suggest to arrive at 12:15 to 12:30 so you do not have to make a line outside. Absolutely all the food is superb!
Be the first to ReplySuper experience
Ten mins wait outside and was with every minute. We decided to go straight to the end of the room for table service. Our server John was super efficient and explained everything clearly. We got two pastrami on rye, one Reuben and one fries between us. Four soft drinks also ordered. Bill came to $110 and left $20 tip on top of that. Would go back again for sure.
Be the first to ReplyA must for New York
We come here every chance we get to visit New York. So happy they didnโt close ! All the sandwiches are very good, but we prefer the pastrami on rye - although the rye bread isnโt as good quality as in the past. Nice sides with cole slaw, potato latkes etc. Itโs really an ยซ institution ยป not to be missed. The atmosphere is really fun too.
Be the first to ReplySomething you have to do in New York. Very expensive for what it is though.
I read all over the internet that this place was an absolute must visit in Manhattan, and me being a massive foodie I was very excited to try it. I'm not a fan of big lines, so I came early around 0930 in the morning, no line and was eating within a few minutes. I ordered a Pastrami on rye, and corned beef. I thought the pastrami was a little dry, but the corned beef was lovely :) I thought the price was a little expensive for what was a meat sandwich. If it had been say 10 dollars cheaper then I think it would have been much better value. Definitley somewhere to try, but not if you are on a budget.
Be the first to ReplyWhen in NYC....
I brought a couple of friends here from Italy because they heard so much about it. Katz's is an NY icon. The meat smells good and it piled high. We order 1 pastrami and 1 corned beef (about $25 per sandwich). They could barely finish half a sandwich. It was man vs. food...the food won!
Be the first to ReplyNo New Yorkers eat here.
Terrible as expected. Tourists in NYC. Took our daughter and pre warned her. We wanted her to experience before itโs gone. Thinking harry met sally and the building will go soon. If not avoid. Itโs over priced, and most important the worst cheap food ever. The pastrami will make sick. Same grossness as in the 90โs. Best avoided as all New Yorkers do. Itโs a tourist trap and we got trapped yet again!

Listen, when I tell you all this is one of the top stops in New York I am not kidding! Get the pastrami sandwich with extra pickles.. 1 sandwich can fill two people!
Be the first to ReplyIโll have what sheโs having!
Great experience, amazing salt beef (or corned beef as they call it in the US) and a typical New York deli atmosphere. You can see why Meg Ryan enjoyed it so much!
