Amazing! The first time trying Eritrean food and we had the veggie and beef combo and it was perfect for two people! The injera was so soft and spongy and the meat was perfectly cooked. All of the sides me veggies paired well and were so flavorful. We waited for about 20 minutes outside on a Saturday for a table for 2. The owner was kind and came to tell everyone outside that it is actually open until 10pm and that the turnaround should be fast. She was so kind and recommended us the perfect portion! One of my favorite places to eat in DC!

We visited some friends in DC and they suggested this place for dinner. It was amazing! It's small and there's not a lot of seating, so I'm happy we got lucky and got a table right away. Food is amazing! We ordered the plate pictured and it was plenty of food for 4 people. We also paired it with some of their delicious honey wine. If I come back to DC, I will definitely try this place again!

Keren is an Eritrean restaurant with amazing flavorful food and with the kindness people running it. They even had nice music. A little bit of a wait due to available seating, but it was well worth it!!!

I love Keren, one of my favorite Ethiopian restaurant! And the first one I have tried in DC. I ordered the doro wet and it was exquisite the coffee was also amazing! Definitely recommend. The decoration of the restaurant reminds me of Addis Ababa and made me nostalgic

I came in with a group of 17 people, they were happy to accommodate us. We called ahead, they don't take reservations, but they made it happen! The staff was incredible, so welcoming, and provided excellent service. The food was even better! This was our first experience with Ethiopian food and we cannot wait to eat it again. Absolutely recommend eating here!
Be the first to ReplyHad dinner here while I was on a DC work trip.
Ordered the Keren special which is an assortment of veggies and a side of meat. I had the choice of chicken or beef and I went beef. It was ALOT of food! I've never had Eritrean food before. But I have to say, it was quite good. And on top of it, the service was excellent. The two ladies waiting tables were so friendly and sweet. Definitely recommend!
Be the first to ReplyI got the veggie platter with beef to go.
Came with all 5 veggies, salad, and the beef. The portion size was great and it tastes good! Def can't finish it by myself in 1 sitting. Be careful driving with this though, the sauce spilled all over the bag.Update: Even better the next day!

Fantastic food for a fantastic price! Quick and efficient service, too. Can get 2-3 meals out of one dish

Keren was incredible- the food was delicious, and as someone who has tried a number of Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurants and never really fallen in love, this one changed my mind. But even more than the wonderful food, the staff is amazing. my friend and I came in at 8:54 pm not realising they close at 9. They didn't even comment on it and served us right away, giving helpful recommendations on the menu and not even rushing us. I was so impressed by the service, and more than satisfied with the food. I can't wait to go back and have been dreaming of their injera!
Be the first to ReplyCame here for a weekend dinner.
The restaurant doesn't look that exciting from the outside but there was a long line - something must draw the crowd. We got seated pretty quickly. The dinner menu is small but has the regular platter dishes you'd expect. We ordered one vege platter and one vege platter + chicken tibs. Excellent! We wiped down both plates. Dinner was very affordable. Our service was friendly and quick. Impressive given there's only one person working the floor in the restaurant. I'd come back!
Be the first to ReplyGreat service.
Wait staff were very helpful when we weren't sure about portion size. It is a small space, if your group is larger than 4 it'll take some luck to get a table. Food is great. Be prepared to be messy!
Be the first to ReplyBest Ethiopian restaurant in DC hands down, no competition.
Come insanely hungry, order the veggie combo, the ful with egg, the chicken tibsi, ideally with 4-5 people. One of the best best restaurants in DC, literally criminal to visit DC and not pay Keren a visit. And everyone here is so friendly!

Wow! My friend who is a local said this was her favorite Eritrean place. We let her order the plate and she also ordered the fish to supplement our dish. I thought it was fun using the injera to eat the meal! Everything was delicious, and it makes me want to seek out Eritrean and Ethiopian food on my own when I get home! I love the lentils and cabbage.

Lovely staff and amazing food. Hard to get a table sometime but worth the wait!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was ok.
Didn't like how small the space was. Went there while it was busy we had to sit at the table near the entrance/exit and it was really frustrating to me. All I remembered about it was how close I was to the door while people in and out. Really loved the one not far from here but they closed permanently. Hopefully I can find another one that's as good.

Wow lots of reviews for Keren, I can see why after having a wonderful dinner here tonight. We had the veggie platter and the ful regular. The restaurant filled up quickly after we sat down. Was the crowd following our lead? Tried out the local beer and it was crisp and smooth as advertised. Portions were quite generous and we left stuffed to the gills.

Small and tight, hole in the wall kinda spot BUT food is very fresh and unbelievably good. Amazing service too, really nice people. Would definitely come back.
Be the first to ReplyI came with my cousins two days ago.
I used to come from time to time in the past but this was my first time coming in at least 5-10 years. The food was delicious the only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because of the customer service. Our server was on her cell phone when I walked in and continued to speak on her cell phone while we were there. It was difficult to grab her attention whenever we needed something and that was frustrated. One of the cousins I was with is a frequent customer of Keren and he said the server he usually has wasn't there. Maybe that was why our customer service was so bad. We had a big dish of injera with two kinds of Tibs (spicy and non-spicy), spinach, Alitcha, Lentils, Shiro and salad. If it wasn't for the lack of professionalism our server had we would've had a better experience.

Staff is very attentive but the menu is very limited, especially for vegetarians. Available food is tasty but there are other Ethiopian options with wider variety.
Be the first to ReplyBy fast our favorite DC institution.
The foul is the best and our kids adore the shiro. Staff is always so friendly that it feels like home each time we return.
Be the first to ReplyOverall it was pretty good.
Food was tasty, portions were fair, price was reasonable. They have Ethiopian beer and Tej Honey wine which is a plus. I would come back here.
