Delicious desserts … worst chips ever !!
Took a friend for a pre theatre supper . Staff were friendly room had a nice oldie worldie feel . Starters for three were very nice served hot . Artichoke fritters Ox cheek croquettes Peppers padron . Main we ordered the steak for 2/3 chips and greens . Oh dear …. Steak was cold fatty and grissly . Was hardly enough meat for 1 let alone 3 . However bad the steak was the chips that accompanied it were awful … I’m going to say the worst I have ever been served . Probably had sat in the kitchen for days par cooked and fried again ! Was like eating cardboard .! Greens came smothered in garlic !!! Not pleasant at all . Thank fully the desserts didn’t disappoint : Sticky toffee pudding was yum Cheesecake was lovely Donuts with rhubarb and custard were also delicious . I didn’t complain about the main as I didn’t want to make my guest uncomfortable . Maybe choosing the steak was the wrong choice but nothing excuses serving chips like that !!!! Will I go back ….. prob not . Dinner for 3 with cocktails £250 .
Be the first to Reply**Worst dining experience of my life, Appalling staff***
What an awful experience I endured. The food was average but not terrible although the music in the restaurant was too loud and it was difficult to hold a conversation. The real challenge came when I went to pay the bill. After asking for the bill, it was presented and I put the cash on the table ready to pay, a member of staff came over and said ' we do not accept cash'. At no point was this mentioned on arrival or when ordering as I would have spent my money at another business who were less discriminatory. I disputed this saying I had left my card in my hotel and said I was ready to pay with cash. The member of staff bought a very rude manager over who was very abrupt and challenged me saying 'you must have a card'. I explained I hadn't, and then he went off in a huff and brought out another manager. The new manager was extremely rude and said 'he would put this on his own card and wouldn't give me any change' , I asked to remove the service charge given the awful service which he refused. I ended up leaving over £20 out of pocket with the refusal of refunding the service charge and the withholding of my change. As someone who suffers from extreme anxiety and going out for a meal is a big thing for me, this experience ruined my confidence. I recommend anyone who like to enjoy a pleasant meal in a nice environment with friendly staff to go anywhere else but other than this venue.

I visited this Soho House establishment recently and had been very much looking forward to experiencing this reputable place. I ordered the chicken leek and bacon pie to share (a good concept as I wasn’t extremely hungry) but this was a little disappointing.. it lacked in taste.. I also had the Neals Yard cheeses which was ok but hugely overpriced for what I received. The place is beautifully decorated and so feels like a treat but the food unfortunately doesn’t come up to the standard I was expecting. The one fact that saved the evening was the wonderful young man that got us the table..I think his name was Fin, (tall and blonde) he was warm and friendly, showed us to our seats, checked we were comfortable and made us feel really welcome.
Be the first to ReplyBring back the glory days low quality food, low quality service
Always been a favourite, now gone down hill. Low quality food, meagre portions. Service hideous. Pizza Express kept the spirit of this icon alive - how could Soho house ruin it so?
Be the first to ReplyPoor service, average food, disappointing
Had dinner tonight with 5 close friends and very disappointed with the experience. Been longtime Soho House member and eaten in many restaurants in the group, but Kettners was a big letdown. Venue is nice and comfortable, glam interior, a nod to its heritage and past reputation as a soho fine eatery. However the restaurant was seriously lacking. Was painful placing a group order withe the waiter, he was unfriendly and disinterested. Sides for main course came out late, wasn't enough plates for everyone, red wine was cold, chicken pie was tasteless, donuts and custard rhubarb lacked flavour. Overall very poor, would recommend Ivy instead.
Be the first to ReplyTraditional and smart, but need to work on the service
I had lunch here with friends on the 1st January. We were welcomed and taken to our tables, and our coats were taken to the cloakroom. Relaxing atmosphere, you feel like you’re in a lounge. Traditional look and feel. Old fashioned and elegant. Great cocktails. Food was generally well cooked. The menu is a bit mixed - traditional English dishes, but also dishes from other cuisines. A bit hard to detect a distinct common theme. The main area of improvement though is around service. The waiters seem to be quite well intentioned, but they need more guidance and training. No 1 their appearance is far too casual and in some cases verging on the scruffy; this is at odds with the elegance and old fashioned look and feel of the venue. No 2 the waiter obviously did not know what was inside the arancini. (He mentioned sweetcorn!). This is a very simple dish. He couldn’t articulate in an appetising way what is in the arancini. We ordered it anyway and it was very simple indeed - rice, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese. We also ordered the sea bass to share. The waiter reminded us that the fish would have a head and tail (!). He then also told us that he wouldn’t fillet the fish for us. For a traditional restaurant like Kettner’s, this is disappointing. If I am served a whole fish to share, I would expect it to be filleted at the table, as you would get at, for example, Scotts. This is also part of the theatre. It is not a difficult thing to train. The oven roasted sea bass was served with tartare sauce. I thought this was rather odd as usually tartare sauce is something that goes with fried fish - the pickles in the sauce are meant to cut through the greasiness of the fried batter. Service was quite slow but that wasn’t a big problem for us on the day. The overall experience was ok, with some clumsy but fixable service shortcomings.
Be the first to ReplyRude hostess
Very disappointed. Hostess seemed gleeful she didn't have a table for us and made no attempt to help. The menu was fancy and inaccessible for teenagers (chips for them!). The waiter tried his best. Like most of the previous reviews the food was not great at the prices charged. I miss Kettners when it was the Pizza Express.
Be the first to ReplyA great lunch
Have only looked at previous reviews after having had lunch here. I wondered if we had been to the same place as some of the earlier reviewers!!! Service was excellent, food was great and price was ok. My only complaint would be, quite a loud dining room, but it was full. I’ll definitely go back. Well done Kettners

Awful food and service. Should have read the reviews before wasting £65 on 2 cheeseboards ( if you could call it that)
Be the first to ReplyWish it was still Pizza Express
The restaurant was booked by my relative. Last time I was there which was a good few years ago, it served pizza and was buzzy and fun. Not any more a tired, dismal, atmosphere. Staff were borderline rude, to be kind I’d say indifferent. The food matched the service. How these places survive is a mystery . The room was empty. Does the management look round the empty room and think this is going well. Avoid
Be the first to ReplyPretentious nonsense
Attempted to visit as we do every year for my birthday but on this occasion we were told it’s now fully members only. The bar was completely dead with around 6 customer’s sitting looking bored. I don’t understand why they would make the decision not to allow people in when they are clearly not doing much business. It was all good in the end as we moved on to a bar that had great ambience and I had a lovely birthday. Kettner’s get your finger out and re think this pretentious nonsense.

This hotel is physically adjacent to the Soho house next door, but it has its own private bar and restaurant. As a "Friends of Soho house" member, which is nonsense, you only have access to the Kettner bar. Given that the two bars are next door to each other, the kettners bar is dead. The music is too loud for a bar without customers. "Friends of Soho house" is impractical and not very useful in general. The room was relatively nice. However this experience ruined the room for me. The lack of access to whatever the neighbor is is just a slap in the face. I'll will cancel my membership, this trip I was going to consider getting the full membership after this nonsense attitude and experience I will 100% pass. If you're a 20 something actor looking to make a splash, the go ahead. But if you have access to anything you like. Not worth your time. The Rosewood is a better hotel with a better bar, and probably a better location. Good luck with their future expansions. This type of ticky tac nonsense won't do anything for their brand if they hope for more clients, which I think they need with their new private equity injection.
Be the first to ReplyMember or not, save your money and spend it elsewhere.
Having friends over from the states, we thought a stop in for a drink would be a lovely little treat. As members, we arrived and were showed to the bar. The incredibly rude and quipt young bartender refused to serve us until we checked in (which we had). We were then ignored (it was busy but the staff were able to stand around and have a chat amongst themselves). Once we were acknowledged, orders taken, this particular bartended was specifically rude to our guest. Her drink was wrong and not to her liking and rather than remake the 15 quid cocktail, he instead proceeded to tell her she was wrong and ‘that is how it’s made’. He proceeded to ignore us and the rudeness extended to the hallway, where he then made an underhanded comment to our guest (mumbled). In relation to the reputation, the price of a membership to Soho House, the location…we were incredibly disappointed. I truly felt embarrassed. We did stay for one more drink (served by a different bartender who was much kinder), but chose to move on rather than spend our money at this venue. Do better Kettners . Members or not, the service was shocking, the staff rude, the drinks mediocre.
Be the first to Reply90 minute wait for lunch
Taken for .Sunday lunch. thank goodness I wasn`t paying. room full only 1 waiter who wasnt in best of moods. When roast beef arrived 90 minutes after arriving, the vegetables weren`t cooked, the beef was delicious but too much piled onto the plate. By way of recompense we were given tiny glasses of Limoncella. Great! Overall terrible organisation and service
Be the first to ReplyFading a little but still lots of life here
A London institution . Central location, good, if not great food, not crazy costs, and old school service. What's not to like?
Be the first to ReplyLovely private club in Soho
Was lucky enough that a friend is a member of this place (now part of Soho House) and we had a great time. Out of the rainy day a lovely a cosy interior welcomes you: nice cosy traditional seating areas and a strict code that computers and telephones cannot be used inside (what a relief!). An attentive service, an easy but tasty menu, reasonable prices…what’s not to like!!!!
Be the first to ReplyAmazingly Bad
Oh well - I did give them a second chance. Sadly worse than last time! Expensive mediocre food but the service… what can I say….appalling! Nice place to meet but if you like food and value service don’t eat here. Service? Well bottle of wine dropped on my foot while I was tasting it, a glass of it in my shoe and on my trousers and the waiter picked it up and asked if he could pour it as if nothing had ever happened! Extraordinary!!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious lunch. Sumptuous service
Dropped in with a friend on her recommendation. No room in the main dining room as we had not booked but had a delicious plant based burger in the 'snug' . Would definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, lovely atmosphere!
We started with a drink in the bar and then moved to a lovely corner table in the restaurant. The atmosphere was perfect, buzzy but good acoustics so you could easily hold a conversation. We shared starters of steak tartare, tuna capaccio and burrata. For main I ordered rib eye which was full of flavour and perfectly charred on the outside and pink in the middle. The wine list was good and we chose two delicious wines. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. We couldn't ask for anything else. Would definitely recomend.

What a fabulous job they have done with what was Kettners. SOHO House group have done it proud Beautiful old features, delicately designed so you wouldnt know. The bedrooms are individually different but all with dedication to detail alongside amazing Cowshed products. Nothing has been left. We had dinner at Soho House round the corner then went to the bar upstairs for cocktails. No photographs are allowed so couldn't take many but it was a pleasure. The staff in all areas were second to nine and from Reception to breakfast yo dinner they were all top of their game and obv5well chosen.
