Great place, spacious dining room, great ambiance allows
Great place, spacious dining room, great ambiance allows for a nice dinner. Service is impecable, our Server Alex was on top of his game. Wine list simple but to the point on Italian selection of red varietals. The menu is sharing style, which we loved. The tartare and shishito peppers were great to start with. Their pastas phenomenal and their branzino was dessert-like. Their alaska baked tiramisu to top everything off was the icing on the cake. Cant wait to return!

Came here for dinner with a party of 4 on an early Friday night. We got three apps: shishitos, burrata pizzette and tuna tartare, individual pastas, and a side of cabbage with prosciutto. Shishitos: I think the menu says blistered shishitos but the dish was far from it. Still good but wish it was actually charred! 3/5 Tuna tartare: Can't go wrong here, could have been the best dish out of everything 5/5Burrata pizzette: Also up at the top, one of my favorites. The burrata was creamy and the tomatoes it came with were delicious!! The "pizza" is a thin fried piece of dough, kinda like a scallion pancake without the scallions. 4/5 Cabbage with prosciutto: This is definitely where Japanese and Italian cuisine meet, with cabbage and prosciutto layered together, grilled, and heavily dusted with parmesan cheese. I think I would have loved it more without the parmesan, I don't think it quite goes with cabbage and prosciutto. 2/5 Now for the pastas.....how I wanted to love them but the dishes came out dente, not even al dente The portions are pretty small so our group of 4 ended up getting individual pastas. I had the soy butter bugoli, considerably more al dente than the other pastas of the group and was very flavorful. But by the time I got halfway through, I was tired of the flavor and it began to taste really salty. 3/5The uni spaghetti was a bit disappointing for the price point and the rigatoni was alright Overall, service was great, our waiter was super friendly. Drinks were good, food mediocore.
Be the first to ReplyI don't think there's anything particularly special about
I don't think there's anything particularly special about this restaurant. I was really excited to try this place because I thought Italian-Japanese fusion would be an interesting spin. But I left the restaurant thinking "well I guess I ate pretty good Italian food?" I do think there are some hints of Asian flavors that shine through the dishes, but it's not so obvious to the point where you think you're eating something innovative. That being said, I did enjoy my time here and the dishes were still pretty tasty. Drinks are also pretty good here, so if you're looking for a nice dinner, I would recommend coming here. Service is excellent though. The waitstaff are incredibly helpful and make really great recommendations.

Not going to lie I forgot what the name of the two entrees we got...oops! This was a nice dining experience. I like the ambiance of Kimika, quiet and intimate: perfect for a date or dinner with a close friend. We ordered the mushroom pasta and the grilled fish. Both so good. I love the flavors in the pasta, lots of umami, noodles were a bit more Al dente than I usually like but not bad at all. The grilled fish was really delicious, portion was good and very tenderly cooked. My friend and I are big on dessert so we ordered the yakult soft serve and the baked Alaska tiramisu. The tiramisu was my favorite between the two, it was warm on the outside but cold on the inside, very impressed with the different textures. The Yakult was also really good, I enjoyed the fig jam at the bottom and the top but it would be great if they did some layering in the middle or else it's just straight soft serve.Overall, a bit pricey but I would come back to try other stuff.

Food and service are good but it would be better if the drinks can come before the meal. It's a gem in the neighborhood for this fusion Japanese and Italian cuisine in soho. Food is interesting and delicious with friendly service. Hope I can try different seasonal menu next time.

I was sooo excited to come eat here! The uni pasta was SO GOOD. Be warned though if you dont like uni this isnt for you- it has a strong and flavorful uni taste. The tuna tartare was also amazing! I liked how the prosciutto pizza was on a very thin crust- reminded me of an asian breakfast item- scallion pancakes, but without the scallions. We also ordered the cavatelli ragu pasta, which wasnt bad, but i felt like the ragu could have been shredded more.
Be the first to ReplyFirst off, the menu is completely different from what you
First off, the menu is completely different from what you would find online.. I wish they would have their updated menus somewhere. My party and I went for lunch on a Saturday at 12:30pm and we were the only customers for awhile. We were seated in the dining area and were asked what kind of water we wanted. We took awhile to decide what to order b/c a lot of the dishes that we were looking for weren't on the menu ): However, we weren't disappointed with what we ordered!!The Carbonara definitely has the twist of Italian-Japanese fusion as they use udon noodles instead of regular pasta noodles. However, I think they cooked the noodles al dente which actually wasn't good for this b/c the noodles were just thick and hard.. and got cold pretty fast. I think this dish would have tasted much better if the noodles were soft like udon noodles. The seasoning was great and I kept wanting to eat more, but kept having to stop myself from being mouthful b/c the noodles were hard ):The souffle pancakes had a grainy/wheaty taste but I did like it! Figs were great and they were a great pair to the pancakes.Service is great and it's pretty spacious as they have both outdoor and indoor seating, but the food was a little pricey for their worth. Would be great if they could have their updated menu online!

3.5* Came here for brunch and the food did not disappoint. Between the five of us, the waiter suggested 5-6 plates, which I think may be enough if everyone has a small appetite but wasn't a ton of food for five. From everything we ordered- Carbonara (6/5): this was the best by FAR. So creamy, so savory, and each noodle was PERFECTLY al dente. I've found few places that have the perfect noodle consistency and Kimika has definitely mastered it. Absolutely incredible. I found myself lapping up the sauce with the bread after the noodles were done - Matcha Mochi Toast (off menu) (3.5/5): the reason why we came but honestly disappointing. It was two thin milk bread slices with a thin matcha filling (may have been mochi like but it was hard to tell). It was way more citrus-y than I was expecting and ultimately I wasn't a fan of the combo.- Frittata: (2/5): this was bad. Super dry, not a ton of flavor. In fact, nobody was full but no one wanted to finish it either.- Tamago Sando (3/5): pretty standard as far as tamago sandos go. There was a half boiled egg and then an egg salad with another slice of bread in the middle. Not bad but really not much better than a convenience store sando.- Proscuitto Foccacia (3/5): the proscuitto on top was amazing. The foccacia was awful. It didn't taste like any good foccacia I've had. There was no seasoning, wasn't buttery, really just tasted like crusty bread- which if you're about, is fine, but I was expecting foccacia.Besides the carbonara, everything else was pretty disappointing- which leads me to a 3.5 star. But rounding up to 4 because Yelp.

We were recommended by a friend to go here! The atmosphere is nice and the service was great! Creative and tasty food that brought a unique experience! The photos speak for themselves!
Be the first to ReplyFood was actually decently good except service was rude.
I went for a friend's birthday and they take their 2-hour time limit very strictly. Instead of being courteous and checking up on us more often towards the end of the time limit, the waitress just simply came and said "your time is up. We have another table we need to prepare for in 15 minutes." A good waitress should come tell us before the time limit is up expressing, "We take our 2-hour time limit here very seriously and your time is almost up. Is there anything else I can get you?" as a last-call offer. This was not done and we had to beg to stay for dessert to celebrate the birthday, did not even get a single group photo, and was lied to when they said the birthday dessert was complimentary as it was clearly added to the bill. I will not be coming back here. What made it worst was they ruined a good celebration.
Be the first to ReplyWe came here for dinner on a weekend, and there were plenty
We came here for dinner on a weekend, and there were plenty of tables. The waiter said each person would need both an app and an entree to be full. I'm glad we didn't do that because we actually found the portions to be pretty large. The three of us shared an app and 2 entrees, and that was more than enough. The food was a fusion between Japanese and Italian, but I would say it leaned more on the Italian side. I didn't really like the ramen, but the pasta was pretty good. The ambiance was nice, and it was a great spot to chat and catch up.
Be the first to ReplyI was extremely excited to come here and wanted to love it.
But first, I msged the restaurant via IG and email, asking if their dinner menu items are also available for lunch (roe roe roe spaghetti). No response at all. And that was quite annoying.Thought I'd still take a chance and go and maybe they'd have it for lunch, and if not, they'd most likely accommodate a request to make it, right? Nope! Of all the thousands of restaurants in NYC I could have chosen to go to, I chose here, and they could not accommodate making me a dish they actually serve, all because of the time I came in. The waiter refused to even ask the chef or manager. At least even if the waiter knows it's not possible, he could have kept that to himself and asked for the sake of asking. I think it's ridiculous they couldn't accommodate to make a dish solely because it was lunch time and not dinner. I can understand if I requested something they don't serve or they ran out of specific ingredients. I should have just said ok we're leaving because I only came for that, but, I was still excited to try a Japanese and Italian concept, because those are two of my fave cuisines.Wrong decision!!!The cara cara salad was just weird. I didn't really love the combos. I love pairing sweet with salty, fresh with cured and or fried items...the juxtaposition is great usually, but in my opinion these particular flavors and ingredients in this salad just didn't work. The farm eggs were incredibly salty and just too rich. And if you're going to serve a dish with that much sauce, two measly pieces of bread won't do. But honestly, the dish was just too salty and rich that maybe that's why you only need two pieces, because you're not really wanting to go back for more. The two pastas, the A-Sha noodle dish and the tsukemen carbonara were just alright. Definitely were underwhelming. The A-Sha noodle special was a little flat tasting. It needed something to contrast the creamy flavor. I got tired of it after two bites. The tsukemen carbonara was rich and just okay, that was probably the best dish of the bunch.Honestly I wrote such a brutally honest review because I wanted to love this place so much. I have such a passion for Japanese and Italian food and culture, so this was an exciting find, that didn't live up to the hype. I really wish they could've accommodated my request to make the roe roe roe spaghetti, because I have a feeling that would have been good, but with the underwhelming dishes we had, maybe I didn't miss much after all.
Be the first to ReplyHigh expectations with low delivery.
Was expecting a true fusion of both cultures, what we got was the runt of the service/food by the end of the service ( dining at 9pm). Before we ordered we were recommend to order 4-6 items for a party of 2. Once we ordered our 3 entrees, a Roe Roe Roe spaghetti, rice cake lasagna, ย and eggplant katsu, we were told the kitchen takes 30-40 min for entrees so we should order a app which we took the recommendation to do and ordered a tuna tartare. Our tuna tartare came in 10 min, medium quality fish and roe but the mix with the crisps was nice and using the nori with good seasoning on the tuna. While eating we received our entree which wasn't ours but was the table next to us, which was returned. 5 min later our entree came, the roe roe roe spaghetti sauce is watered down with no Unami but salt. The pasta is al dente (thank God).... The rice cake lasagna is basically a ttebeokbokki without the spice nor the flavor just covered in cheese. No mix with flavor nor bite of the dish, bland with the only flavor being the cheese and cream. Egg plant katsu, best thing we had expect by the time it comes from the kitchen to the table, the bottom is soggy. Still the best thing we've had here. Overall, disappointed and thought it would be better but maybe it was a the time coming at 9pm on a Friday night.

I saw this place on my Tiktok and knew that I wanted to come by and try this place out. My friends and I made reservations to come here on a Thursday night for dinner - we accidently made our reservation for Friday but they were able to accommodate us for dinner on Thursday. The vibe was this place is very cozy date night with low dim lights and both outdoor and indoor seating. We decided to order the dishes family style - their menu items are fairly unique as they are a fusion of Japanese and Italian. We decided to get: -Tuna Tartare : definitely recommend getting this; super delicious and it comes with a side of seaweed so you can make your own "handrolls." Great start to the dinner-Crispy Rice Cake Lasagna: Also highly recommend this dish; super creamy with great flavoring and the crispness of the rice cakes adds a special touch to the dish. -Roe roe roe spaghetti: Wound pass on this dish; was excited to try it but it was just okay; not much flavor but it is perfectly al dente -Duck Fat Fried Potatos: Wound pass on this as well, nothing too special just crispy slices of potatos. -Bombombinii: We decided to get this for dessert and it comes with three of them. IT IS SUPER HOT on the inside so be careful when you eat it. Pretty tasty and a good sweet treat after dinner.Overall - nice date night spot, a little on the pricy side but it's a good place for a treat!

service and ambiance was really nice butfood was a hit or miss. ย a lot of it was very salty, and granted i have a high salt tolerance, it was at times too much for metuna tartare was really good and my favorite thingthe prosciutto pizza was too salty and the bread was too hardthe lasagna was good but some bites were very saltyi'm most disappointed about the baked alaska because it was served very frozen and took a while to wait for it to melt a little. ย could barely dig in it. ย not sure why it was served very frozen. ย at least it tasted fine
Be the first to ReplyThis is one of my favorite brunch places in NYC.
The presentation of the food is always gorgeous, and the Japanese-Italian fusion is achieved in some pretty innovative ways without being heavy-handed. Pastry bento: 10/10. Every pastry was delicious; I particularly enjoyed the mortadella and fontina cornetto (which had the taste/consistency of Japanese milk bread), the matcha jam, and the tiramisu katatsumuri. The focaccia was a little on the salty side, but good nonetheless. Matcha mochi French toast: 7.5/10. Very filling and a little too rich, but it's a really solid choice if you're a fan of matcha and/or French toast.
Be the first to ReplyHuge disappointment.
My friends and I were intrigued by the menu and also the ambiance of this restaurant. But it truly did not deliver. First of all, service was very slow and our dinner ended being hours long. The server had recommended us to order the items family style. However, the portion sizes of each dish made us feel like we were only getting a bite of each dish. Instead of enjoying the company of my friends, we were also trying to cut/split food using the dullest knife we have ever seen. After some trouble, we asked for a steak knife and it was still extremely dull and frustrating. The food was also terrible. The only decent items to me were the tuna tartare, eggplant Katsu, and the "pizzas". The pizzas were more like a scallion pancake drenched in oil and topped with mortadella or prosciutto. The roe roe roe spaghetti was particularly bad because it was undercooked. Not al dente but literally hard. The fishiness of the dish was not pleasant. The sticky rice risotto was a huge disappointment and did not resemble risotto at all. It was a poorly executed rendition of Chinese sticky rice. The porchetta had no flavor and no crunch.Don't waste your money here. So many better restaurants in the neighborhood. The items were also on the expensive side. Go somewhere else for dinner and food! This place is only good for drinks.
Be the first to ReplyPurists can hold their tongue: I love a good fusion
Purists can hold their tongue: I love a good fusion restaurant, especially if it's done really well, and ESPECIALLY if it involves two of my favorite cuisines i.e. Japanese and Italian. My friend and I split two pastas, an appetizer, and dessert. The portions are modest, so we could've definitely had more but we had a lot of catching up to do so we ate slowly and felt pretty full at the end of our meal.-- Grilled mushrooms in origami: I wasn't sure what the "in origami" meant, but it means literally that. The mushrooms are wrapped in an origami box-like tent and you unfold it. I don't know if it's mainly for presentation or if there is some intricate chemical science behind this, but it looked fascinating and tasted on point. A no brainer if you love fungi.-- Roe Roe Roe Spaghetti: I am a sucker for cod roe spaghetti, and so this one immediately jumped off the menu. The dish was delicious but not spectacular. I wish I had gone with something more unique/adventurous instead of this one. -- Tortellini: I honestly don't remember the exact name of this dish, but it was fantastic. It reminded us a lot of wonton soup. The broth is so flavorful and had some radishes and these little white balls that looked like mochi. I would 100% get this again and only wish there were more pieces of tortellini (it came with 5).-- For dessert, we went with the seasonal special which was a yuzu cake. As my friend observed, it tasted like spring. Light, bright, and delicate. The covered outdoor seating area has heat lamps and provides a great view and soundtrack of rush hour traffic heading toward the Wiliamsburg Bridge.
Be the first to ReplyLoved loved loved dinner here.
We ended up sitting at the bar since we didn't have reservations and got to observe two amazing mixologists practice their craft. Every drink is a work of art, there's homemade limoncello and fresh sisho leaves, amazing concoctions that are surprisingly tasty and refreshing, the haiku garnished with a gorgeous eatable pansie is just the icing on the cake. The food is as surprising and incredibly delicious, with every dish providing bites filled with texture, hints of spice, and surprising twists. The tuna tartar eaten in a nori leaf like a handroll is just genius. The nori wrapped crunchy sticks are a perfect bar appetizer, the spicy olives I can eat all day non stop. The persimmons wrapped in prosciutto were tangy and sweet, with the sticky rice risotto came wrapped in banana leaves with table side dish sauce providing nourishment ย and filling us up while we were being plied with gorgeous drinks. Overall I'd say the best bar dinner ever and a really well throughout concept and menu. Can't wait to come back!Tip: make reservations and ask after the specials.

My first time here! This place is on the James bread list for a Reason. I tried tuna tartare and rice cake lasagna, both spectacular! Rice cake is spicy creamy and layers of flavor. Points for having very delicious non alcoholic drinks.. Points for great service. Definitely coming back.

Came here for brunch to give it a try and it felt like fancy brunch. The tortellini pasta was hands down my favorite out of the other entrees like the matcha mochi toast and the cotechino sando. The toast was a little too sweet for my taste but it was interesting with the mochi chewy texture. The sando was pretty filling. I also got a drink to go along my meal and. I feel like when I went for brunch a lot of people got the pastry box.

Came on a Saturday around 1:30pm with a reservation for two. It wasn't too crowded, so not sure it's necessary to make a reservation. Ambiance and service were both good!Food-wise, some was a hit or miss for me personally, but all in all the menu is unique and I would come back again for brunch. As others have commented, the portions are small. However, I think the portion size to price ratio is no different than the vast majority of other places in Manhattan. As usual, I opted for sharing. I ordered the below for two people:-Cara Cara Orange: I wouldn't order again. I thought the mix of the orange, salami, and capers was a bit too odd for me personally. It didn't feel like they all went together. -Mozzarella: this was decent, but I wish there was a lot more sauce. -Tsukemen Carbonara: this was my favorite! The noodles were cooked perfectly and that cheesy dipping sauce was soooo rich, cheesy, and delicious. I will say, this dish is pretty small in size so you may be a little disappointed if you only order this for your meal. -Matcha Mochi French Toast: this was really good. Surprisingly not too sweet at all. It is a lot though - quite dense, so I think it's great to share, but not sure I could eat this as my main. -Cotechino Sando: I enjoyed this!

Japanese Italian fusion food intrigued me so we thought we should check it out. We ordered the pastry bento (croissant with matcha marmalade, tiramisu katatsumuri, mortadella fontina cornetto, seaweed focaccia with nori butter), the lobster okonomiyaki, the tsukemen carbonara, the fried tortellini in brodo, and the matcha mochi French toast. My favorite dishes were the pastry bento, the lobster okonomiyaki, and the matcha mochi French toast. The pastry bento was interesting with a lot of different items to try. The lobster okonomiyaki had a lot of lobster pieces and it was so rich since it had lobster and pancetta. The matcha mochi French toast was not too sweet, rich, and the toast had that chewy mochi texture. Service was good but I do think they upsell too much. They recommended 5-7 dishes which is a lot. We had 5 dishes and we were beyond full. I think we could've ordered 4 dishes and it would have been fine.
Be the first to ReplyGood food but definitely on the smaller side.
Listen to the waiter/waitress' recommendation and order accordingly - it's meant to be shared family style. The service is below par - every dish takes a while and servers did not really come by too often. Cocktails were good and well made. Don't get the uni add-on for the spaghetti it was not worth it (ended up being $47 because of uni MP).

For starters we got tuna tartare, pizza fritte with fig and crispy potatoes. All three were good but the potatoes were a little too salty on their own. They said the pizza was savory but still felt a little sweet to me. For entrees we went with roe roe spaghetti, sticky rice risotto and eggplant katsu. I really enjoyed the eggplant katsu but felt the other two were lacking. The sticky rice risotto wasn't really risotto. Overall interesting concept and some of the flavors were great but I don't think I'll be returning
