Be the first to ReplyTruly horrible experience.
I came here with my boyfriend for Valentines Day. The whole fixed price deal is extremely misleading. Aside from that, we were told on our reservation that we had 120 minutes for our meal. The food took the span of 3 hours to come out. Not one staff person cared that they were completely late on everything. The place is so overpriced for what it is - the fish is fine. You can find better sushi/omakase elsewhere in the neighborhood. They have an "I don't care attitude" there and we are glad we now know to never go back.

This restaurant is terrible - the worst sushi experience I have ever had. No pluses, only minuses for this place. Where do I start. How anyone can give this place 4-5 stars much less 2-3 is beyond me.This restaurant is fairly new to the neighborhood and, based upon the reviews, I had been wanting to try it; so I went today at 5:30 when they opened. The place isn't all that large, but they have enclosed sidewalk seating, where I sat. Although they tried to make the decor appealing, I just found it depressing and had a desire to leave shortly after I sat down. Despite their efforts, you definitely know you are eating on the sidewalk. I often like dining outside, but there is something about this place that just doesn't work. They have artificial hanging flowers under the roof and seating for approximately 20 people outside and probably about 30 inside where there is a bar, a sushi bar, and a few tables. The popular music they were playing was a little too loud which made it difficult to understand the servers because their English wasn't that clear in the first place. The service was sporadic, and the servers seemed inexperienced. I asked the same person twice for the check, but she was busy at other tables, and didn't seem to know how to handle two things at the same time. Finally, after about 10 minutes, I got the attention of the Manager, and he brought the check. He was apologetic and asked me how the food was. I had to be honest with him. I didn't very much like it at all, and I have had a lot of sushi in my life. He encouraged me to come back and try again, but that won't be happening - too many good restaurants in NYC. With me, one strike and it is on to better things (hopefully)Now for the food: For a sushi restaurant, the menu was sparse and didn't offer too many selections. They had a few pieces of nigiri and some sashimi you could order - the standard stuff - and 3 meal choices. One was $38 for 4 pieces of nigiri and a futomaki roll, another was the Roku for $58 for 6 pieces of sushi & a futomaki roll. The 3rd was a sushi bar or table dinner for $120.I opted for the Roku, which also included miso soup and edamame, but overall I was sorely disappointed. I started out with the cheapest "hot" sake they had - $18 for an 8 oz glass (total ripoff). The sake wasn't very good and not very hot. By the time I got 1/4 through it was cold. This was such a little amount of sake for a meal. I really wanted more but, at that price, no way. Most Japanese and Chinese restaurants serve sake in a carafe so that it stays hot, and they usually charge a more reasonable price. This place needs to re-evaluate how they serve sake. The miso soup was tasty enough, but just broth with 2 pieces of tofu and 1 piece of seaweed. The edamame was bland. Usually it is cooked in salt water to give it some flavor, but in this case, they didn't bother with the salt.Although the sushi seemed to be fresh, the preparation was a little weird. All of it was too cold, like it had just come out of the refrigerator. It should be more room temperature. The futomaki was obviously pre-made and not the best. It was seaweed with rice inside and inside that a chunk of cucumber, a little bit of avocado, some yucky spinach, and another yucky something I couldn't identify. The 6 pieces of nigiri were pretty standard stuff - salmon, tuna, scallop, yellowtail, and a couple of other pieces I wasn't sure of. The waitress tried explaining to me what they were, but the music was so loud and she was so hard to understand that I basically didn't pay any attention. There was nothing really interesting about any of these pieces. A couple of them had been slightly tweeked, ie salmon with lemon which actually ruined it and a piece I couldn't identify with some weird stuff on it, which also wasn't very good. There wasn't even any ginger.I guess it is pretty obvious that I won't be returning to this restaurant. I was so unhappy that I just left a 10.5% tip whereas I always leave at least 15%. The total was over $90 with the tip, and I just basically felt very cheated. This meal wasn't even worth $50.

I've heard good things about Kissaki and it did not disappoint. I came here for restaurant week and the nigiri pieces were really fresh and high quality. I would totally come back for regular omakase which I think is $100 for 15 pieces. Good vibes inside.
Be the first to ReplyAnother GREAT Restaurant Week deal, $60 for omakase!
Another GREAT Restaurant Week deal, $60 for omakase! Included 2 small appetizers, 8 pieces of sushi, and dessert. Highlights for me was the toro sushi and dessert, which was a Spanish inspired bread pudding with hints of orange and burnt brown sugar on top. Service was a little slow, though not a huge deal, I think they were just a bit overwhelmed with the amount of reservations on a Friday night during RW. Interior is beautiful and sleek, definitely want to come back for a regular course dinner or other omakase experience.

I have been wanting to try Kissaki sushi for awhile now and I'm glad I finally did. I heard they were having a restaurant week deal that was well worth the $60 and it did not disappoint! We arrived 30 minutes earlier than our reservation and they were very nice and still sat us. The servers we had all very attentive and gave knowledgeable explanations on every dish which is very important when having omakase. Great ambiance as well very relaxing meal experience. Lastly the FOOD! We got the restaurant week special for 1 appetizer, 8 nigiri and a dessert. The first appetizer was the hamachi with shallots in some sort of sauce which was delicious. Next they also gave a soup as a second appetizer not listed in the menu which was a nice touch and it was simple yet had everything it needed. The soup was a clam and melon in a dashi broth. Following that came the star of the show, the nigiri! We are from right to left starting with the egg which was perfect and ending with the fatty tuna which left us not only satisfied but wanting more. Dessert followed shortly and blew our mind not only with flavor but the texture and balance a milky cake that was not too sweet but warm with some caramelization. I am already looking forward to coming back!
Be the first to ReplyFirst time doing a restaurant week omakase.
I would stay away and recommend doing a regular omakase. Fish was not too fresh, and every bite was absolutely overkill with the wasabi. I'm sure their regular counter omakase is great, but would definitely stay far away from their restaurant week promotion.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is absolutely fabulous.
The food and the service is impeccable. I highly recommend this place. Best sushi I've ever had.
Be the first to ReplyAlways a great choice.
Definitely among the best futomaki in NYC. Their Omakase selection is wide and of good quality. Staff is knowledgeable and careful with allergies.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place to visit in NYC.
Find it by accident but was really happy after all. The menu is quite classic with nigiri, omakase, sashimi. The prices are a bit high, but once you try the food, the price doesn't bother you anymore. Good atmosphere and nice music inside. Definitely worth a try.
Be the first to ReplyWell, I got this juuni set, there was an hair in it.
I couldn't eat the thing at all after finding out right before I eat that piece. They gave a $20 refund, lol, after finding that, I lost all of the appetite.
Be the first to ReplySide note: my second experience at this sushi chain.
And the experience was amazing again. Food was great as expected, sushis crafted one by one in front of you as per the tradition. The fish selection is also well done. The service at this restaurant was on par. Waiters well-acknowledged about menu and specials. In sum, experience there is still outstanding and I can totally recommend Kissaki to anyone craving sushi. It's high-end without the attitude which we love. A+
Be the first to ReplyI visited their restaurant in Florida and came to explore
I visited their restaurant in Florida and came to explore new spots around! The menu differs compared to O By, but the main options are still the same. I enjoyed chutoro with medium fatty tuna and caviar on the top. Also for recommendation stands the chirashi bowl with uni, it's not only tasty but so colorful and beautifully served! I'll be here again Decent 4 from 5

Proper safety measures against COVID19 and great service! I love that the restaurant is operated by the chef who can tell more with the dishes about his culture than with any words. Omakase - simply incomparable, worth trying even for such big money (I chose the smallest position and anyway was full with it, so don't pay a lot of attention to the size, it's quite nutritious. Thanks separately for Strawberry Gin Fizz, such an interesting taste and so light and fresh! To get acquainted briefly with the menu and prices - just open the website, btw, made my reservation there, fast and without unnecessary talks
Be the first to ReplyI ordered 6 Omakase Juuni for take out for a family dinner.
Sushi was great but the unethical practice of the restaurant really put a bad taste in my mouth. I picked up my order from the restaurant and signed for the toal amount. But I noticed a charge on my credit card that was more than the total charge I signed for. I called the restaurant to inquire about the discrepancy. She first said that the 20% tip was already added on the receipt when I signed which is completely false. I told her I have a copy of the receipt and that was not the case. And then she said the restaurant wouldn't charge without permission even though they clearly did. She then said 20% tip was added automatically which is inconsistent because the discrepancy wasn't exactly 20%. She kept on making excuses and never apologized and told me that I had to call back in several days when the manager is back because apparently the manager is only in a couple days of the week. I have dined at different locations of Kissaki and love their sushi but this experience ruined it for me.
Be the first to ReplyWe were delightfully surprised by this place.
All the dishes were wonderfully prepared and delicious, with an emphasis on homemade sauces and condiments. There was a 20 min. lag between dishes at one point though, probably because they couldn't handle the influx of requests that came at last call.Dishes were a tad overpriced (in terms of price vs. quantity) even for the NYC.
Be the first to ReplyMy second experience with Kissaki Chains.
Best sushi I've ever eaten! Best dining experience I've ever had. The owners, chefs and staff do an incredible job creating this experience and I love going here as often as I can. The higher price is worth it and I would even pay more because it's so fresh, delicious and the variety is out of this world. Can't say enough good things about Kissaki. It's a must try! Also, try omakase while you're there.
Be the first to ReplyTo preface this review, the food was AMAZING.
One of the best omakase I've had. Thoroughly enjoyed the 13 course meal, the appetizers were varying and exciting, the main courses were a rollercoaster of flavors, the dessert was a delicious and by no means an afterthought in this experience. The cocktails were well crafted as well( maybe a bit pricy, but they used more exotic ingredients than you'd find in other cocktail bars) The service was good and the servers did a good job explaining the dishes as they presented them to us. Ambiance was ok, kind of small inside and cramped. Outdoor seating does seem suitable if you're into that, but it is winter now and I am not sure how warm the heaters can keep you. The caveat here was the reservation mishap that started my dining experience on the wrong foot. I called several days in advance to book a reservation for Saturday night. This date took place during NYC restaurant week so I wanted to take full advantage of the special omakase deal Kissaki offered. During my phone call, I was clear that I wanted to reserve a table for two for the restaurant week omakase deal and asked if it was to be honored. Concierge replied that they will and I would only need to place a $100 deposit for my reservation. I obliged and was excited.Fast forward to Saturday night, I was met with differing information and was told there has been a misunderstanding. Firstly, I was told the deposit paid was $200,$100 per person for me and my date. "Per person deposits" were not disclosed during my phone call. Secondly, they would not honor the 59$ restaurant week omakase deal as it would not meet the deposit amounts paid, thus they offered to refund me my deposit instead or recommended I instead order the regular full price omakase. This was not how I wanted to spend my evening, by finding another place for dinner at the 11th hour because of "policy misunderstanding". Ultimately it felt like a bait and switch. And so I ordered the traditional omakase course as it just wasn't worth it to pivot my plans otherwise. TLDR; the omakase and drinks were top notch, delicious! Service was good. Establishment was ok. Miscommunication of policy left a sour taste in my mouth that would otherwise have been a perfect dining experience.

Came here for restaurant week for their tasting menu and was blown away. Each dish was delicious and tasteful but the tartare with caviar has got to be my favorite. All the pieces of sushi were fresh and superb quality. I'd love to come back and try their a la crate menu someday. My only complaint was the outdoor seating, although it was equipped with overhead heaters, it was still extremely cold and dampened the overall experience.

Amazing restaurant week experience! $79 for 3 appetizers, 8 pieces of sushi, and dessert. It was a great value and although we didn't leave feeling *super* full, they definitely could have gotten away with serving even less. Every dish was extremely creative and well executed. Each piece of sushi had a twist on it, like some yuzu garnish or spice. The rice was the right temperature and the proportion of fish to rice was just right. The dessert could've been a lazy matcha tiramisu but was a super innovative brioche with matcha cream. Taking away a star because all 8 pieces were served at the same time instead of how omakase is usually served, and it was coming out of a kitchen rather than a sushi bar. However, the restaurant is expanding into the space next door, so that may change.

Delicious! The quality is on par with omakase dinners we have had in SF, TX and other places. Each dish was unique and offered a lovely flavor palette. We will make sure to come back and experience other dishes they have to offer because what we experienced was so good. The staff is wonderful and welcoming. They make sure you enjoy the food! Come hungry and enjoy the ride.

The best Omakase I've eaten so far and the chefs and servers are so nice that they lighten up my mood for the first day of the new year. The foods are absolutely worth to try and definitely deserve to come back. Chefs and servers are so passionate to introduce the food to us. Overall, highly recommended this restaurant! Happy new year to the chefs and servers! Thanks Kissaki.
Be the first to ReplyProbably the best sushi restaurant in New York City.
I've visited two different locations of Kissaki Sushi and both, including Kissaki Colambus, exceeded my expectations. Go for the chef special to try something you would not normally order and be delighted.
