I recently dined at Knife & Spoon in Orlando, excited by
I recently dined at Knife & Spoon in Orlando, excited by its reputation and the promise of a Michelin Guide-listed experience. Unfortunately, my anticipation was met with disappointment. While the restaurant boasts a sophisticated atmosphere and an adventurous cocktail list, my culinary journey fell short of expectations. The hamachi appetizer was the sole highlight of my meal, delivering on flavor and freshness. However, the subsequent dishes failed to live up to this initial promise. The yellowtail, a dish I was eagerly looking forward to, was overcooked, detracting significantly from its potential. The steak tartare, while decent, didn't quite hit the mark for me, lacking the exceptional quality I anticipated in such a renowned establishment. The scallops, described on the menu as a must-try, were unfortunately flavorless. For a restaurant that prides itself on high-quality cooking and has received accolades for its steaks, this inconsistency in the quality of its seafood offerings was particularly disappointing. Despite the prestige of Knife & Spoon and its celebrated chef John Tesar, my experience highlighted a disconnect between reputation and execution. While the restaurant's ambiance and service were commendable, the culinary experience left me underwhelmed. This visit made me question the consistency of the acclaimed dishes that draw people to Knife & Spoon. I hope this feedback can serve as constructive criticism, helping to elevate the dining experience to match the high expectations set by its accolades and reviews.
Be the first to ReplyWe wanted to compare the two local Michelin star steak
We wanted to compare the two local Michelin star steak houses, so we did Capa for my fiancé's birthday and Knife & Spoon for mine - his choice won. The bar at Knife & Spoon is lovely, and I'd come back just for the raw bar experience there, but the dining room is cavernous and cold - lots of hard surfaces, it just doesn't have the coziness that Capa did. To me, it lacked a level of elegance and charm that the bar area had. I also didn't like that you had to walk along the outside of the hotel to get to the restaurant; we arrived on a chilly and rainy January evening. Compared to the lobby experience of the Four Seasons en route to Capa, not going inside the Ritz to get here felt odd. Now, the food - the steak was great, but the sides are what really stood out. The gnocchi was some of the best I've ever had. Dessert was forgettable, unfortunately. Overall, we agreed it was an excellent meal, but found Capa to be a better experience and value, dollar for dollar, when spending this much on a meal. While I'm glad we went, and the meal was certainly wonderful - it's just not in our budget to do this kind of meal all the time, so I'd likely go back for the raw bar, but probably not a full dinner again.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great ambience, great service.
The scallops were exquisite. Roberto at the bar went above and beyond to heighten my experience.
Be the first to ReplyNice restaurant with very friendly staff.
Food was delicious. Definitely worth the trip
Be the first to ReplyGood, but over hyped and over priced.
For the most part, the food was tasty and fresh. The stone crab claws were disappointing. For the price, would expect fresh seafood. They tasted like they were previously frozen and water logged. The scallops and the lamb were good, but not spectacular. The service was lacking. Lots of staff, but you had to be on their time table if you wanted anything. The servers came to clear the table while we were still eating the stone crabs and then never cleared those plates before bringing the main entrees. Asked for a second cocktail earlier in the service, but it didn't arrive until dessert after asking a few times to different servers. The one server did apologize at the end when he brought the bill. It was nice to experience it once, but wouldn't necessarily put it on my repeat list.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was not great.
Not high quality food at all. Extremely overpriced. Lobster was extremely disappointing . No flavor. Tough. Cold. Impossible to finish. In was also in the strangest dark gravy. Iceberg salad- a JOKE! Not prepared as a high end restaurant would. Prawns were terrible. If you've had colossal prawns before , you will know these do not measure up. They were on a bed of salty disgusting seaweed that seemed unwashed. The prawns absorbed the salt and flavor of the seaweed. They were tough. Bartender/Waiter was very nice. That was good

Service: Nothing I love more than going to a restaurant and they being flexible/understanding w my toddler and infant. Loved the bread plate and palate cleanser to start the meal as well as the prompt service to bring my toddler the food asap. Ambiance: For being a Michelin it didn't feel overly stuffy and the ambiance felt more laid back smart casual. The chairs were not as comfy as I would like as they were bench love seats. Food: highlights of the meal was the crudo for appetizer as it came with a delicious sauce and the fish were extremely fresh. For entree the grouper and the cacio y Pepe took the cake. Cannot go wrong at all with either one of these choices!

Service was impeccable... team was attentive. Very elegant location . Perfect for a special occasion!
Be the first to ReplyI'll start by saying that is is my first Michelin rated
I'll start by saying that is is my first Michelin rated restaurant experience and yes, I have watched "The Bear." My husband and I went for our 20th Anniversary. Upon first impression, I wouldn't normally go to a restaurant that is attached to a hotel - not sure why, but it seems to be a deterrent for me. (Maybe I'm missing out?) But hey, it was attached to the Ritz, so let's set our expectations high, right? Valet was convenient, the hostess validated our parking so it was complimentary, and they seated us slightly ahead of our reservation time. The dining room is round with high ceilings which made for a pretty active atmosphere. The energy was good, even with the noise level increasing as the tables filled up. I enjoyed the buzz of the staff - the "bee hive" rhythm that the dining room, pass, and kitchen seemed to take on. We had a team of 3 taking care of us throughout the evening. They were extremely friendly and made extra efforts to make our anniversary dinner special. Jesus and Miguel were especially attentive, but the third (forgive me for not remembering her name) was informative and friendly. The complimentary champagne was a nice way to kick off the evening to celebrate together. The amuse bouche was a shot glass of juice (non-alcoholic) and was a nice palette teaser. Very bright and warm with the flavor of ginger. It was a nice start. We ordered an item from each section of the menu and had a few really surprising and extremely delightful moments along the way. So, without further ado, the food. The wedge salad was nice - the bright dill ranch dressing, strong blue cheese, bacon, and tomato. It wasn't my favorite wedge salad that I've had, Luma on Park holds that top spot (but they no longer exist - a moment of silence).... The scallops were the the first highlight and definitely the star of the evening for me. The BROTH was OUT OF THIS WORLD inspired. The scallops were delicate and perfectly seasoned and golden. The broth was so incredible that when Jesus came to check in I mentioned I would drink it, so he jokingly asked if I wanted a straw. Well, by the end of the bowl, my husband was tilting the bowl so I could spoon the broth out (chuckling the entire time that I was enjoying it so much. He was very proud of himself for bringing me to Knife & Spoon) when of a sudden Jesus runs up and puts a straw on the table. Lol!!! We burst out laughing and it truly made our night. The purple potato pasta in a cream sauce with sea urchin was the next dish. And yes, it's EVERYTHING you want in a creamy pasta dish that has a touch of the unique. It was my first time enjoying sea urchin, and I hope it's not my last. A tip from Jesus, press the urchin against the roof of your mouth to get the full pallet flavor. Tip from me, place nibble size portions on your pasta bites to enjoy the full spectrum of flavors throughout the dish. Next came the catch of the day: Flounder. Another dish with so many layers of flavor that it kept bringing me back to create one perfect bite after another - collecting an element from each item on the plate to bring all of the flavors together for the perfect bite. The wagyu beef was the perfect way for us to end because we had already split so much food and so many flavors. But, I would say that a dry aged ribeye is calling my husband's name for our next visit. We are normally not dessert people, so we went with all savory dishes. However, Jesus made sure we didn't leave without feeling special and enjoying one of their pastry chef's specialties as our second complimentary treat. As if the night wasn't special enough, the box of 6 macarons they gave us to take home made my kids feel special too since we shared them with them when we got home. Thank you to the entire staff who made our 20th Anniversary extra special!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing.
Great service, beautiful restaurant, comfortable ambiance. And the food? Incredible. Oysters? Amazing mignonette. Steak Tartare? Super fresh and tasty. Lobster Tail? Perfectly cooked, delicious sauce. Filet Mignon? Best I ever had. Everything was very upscale without being stuffy. Bravo.
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambiance with a Michelin star to prove it.
Unfortunately hard to get a reservation, however, the bar serves dinner.
Be the first to ReplyWow what a restaurant.
Only negative is that we couldn't get a reservation. So we asked if we could sit at the bar and they let us. Great food and great service. Definitely recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyWent last night.
There were 12 in the party, and the experience was disappointing to say the least. We were given special menus with very few choices which our host was not made aware of. Three entrees and three appetizers and sides. One dessert. The room is nice but nothing special. The service was very good as to be expected. The appetizer course came table style and included tartar, oysters (amazingly small) a few shrimp and awful ceviche. The house salad was good but the Caesar was just ok. Most had the filet which ranged from ok to mediocre. I had lamb chops which were good, and the sauce which was very good. Dessert was some chocolate covered cakes which were meh. Our entire experience was not at all what we expected, and not in a good way. One last issue was the blu cheese olives in my vodka. I was assuming they would be hand stuffed like every other upscale restaurant, but no. They came out of a jar already stuffed and were awful. Needless to say, we won't be back.
Be the first to ReplyFood is awful so fishy.
So sad. So disappointed. This shouldn't be the five star hotel dining. Plz.
Be the first to ReplyMichelin starred restaurant at the Ritz Carlton with some
Michelin starred restaurant at the Ritz Carlton with some bar seating available just outside the dining room proper - which is reminiscent of a large vaulted rotunda given an open airiness. Modern furniture with abundant use of wood provides almost outdoorsy feel. Greenery interspersed to provide beauty along with some noise reduction. The attentiveness and professionalism of the staff here is commendable - they utilize a team of three to provide great service and a very helpful sommelier. I would describe the cuisine to be new American but borrowing from other cuisines. We feasted on:Housemade shrimp chip with aioli as an amuse boucheMini baguette with butterShrimp cocktail - perfectly cooked with a crisp firmness a sweet flavorHalf dozen oysters - from Canada and MaineCaviar - complete with accoutrements (warm blini's, creme fraiche and chives)Live Diver Scallops - perfectly grilled with truffles, brown butter and a table side poured mushroom dashiUni Cacio e Pepe - umami happiness with bucatini noodles dressed with bottarga (dried mullet roe) and furikake32 oz bone in NY Strip aged for 120 days. Broiled to medium rare. This one was special - blue cheesy explosion on the first bite with a slightly nutty finish. Couldn't finish this at the restaurant but we did take it back to the room for a midnight bite. Whipped mashed potatoes and wild mushroom sides were chosen to accompany the steak. Potatoes were not quite as spectacular as Robuchon's but they were really good. Dessert was a lychee sorbet that was a very nice light finish to a pretty hefty meal.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was fantastic, but the service was disappointing.
I had dinner at the bar because I did not have a reservation. The bar was pretty empty for a Saturday night. The bartender was pretty inattentive. The Caesar Salad and Uni Cacio e Pepe were both incredible -- certainly the best cacio e pepe I have ever had.
Be the first to ReplyI loved everything about our experience at Knife & Spoon.
The restaurant, which is located in the Ritz Carlton, is beautifully decorated with modern, inviting decor. We started our evening with cocktails at the bar, and the menu offered various types of spirits, depending on your taste. We were then seated in the main dining room, where we were cared for by a team of attentive servers. The salads were beautifully prepared and tasty, and the entrees were dynamite. We ordered the wedge salad, the heirloom tomato salad, the filet mignon and bolognese, all of which were outstanding.
Be the first to ReplyWow - a Michlelin one-star restaurant? Sorry, fell way
Wow - a Michlelin one-star restaurant? Sorry, fell way short! Above average ambiance, excellent service and food was a 7 out of 10 in my/our book. Service staff was over the top attentative but not intrusive. Food fell way short on quality and taste. I had a fillet of beef and my spouse had the diver scallops. Very disappointing!
Be the first to ReplyWe sat at the bar which I wouldn't want to do again.
The restaurant is beautiful and I feel we missed out on it due to our seating. Food was very good, drinks were even better. Our serving staff was very attentive, It was one highlight of a dreaded trip to Florida.
Be the first to ReplySteak selection could have been better and by that I mean
Steak selection could have been better and by that I mean more of a variety of sizes. There's one or two "normal size" steak but if you're in the mood for a ribeye or strip, the size available is just too large for one person to consume. I went with others, had a Gibson to start and it was properly made. I ordered the small steak and a side salad, I really enjoyed the salad and the steak was amazing. It had the rich, dry aged/concentrated flavor. The wine selection was great and the service was polite and helpful.
Be the first to ReplyThe ambiance is excellent! Love the full service staff
The ambiance is excellent! Love the full service staff going out of their way to hold doors! Very friendly, upbeat, and accommodating. The dishes are tasty and plentiful! Enjoyed oysters 1/2 dozen, ceviche, and more! They also comped us some amazing desserts on the house which was a very nice and kind gesture which we appreciated! You must try the tile fish! Shay and team were above and beyond! Thank you for exceptional service from start to finish!
Be the first to ReplyGreat new restaurant which is the 15th Michelin star
Great new restaurant which is the 15th Michelin star restaurant in Florida. Located inside the Ritz Carlton. Reservations are an absolute must. Excellent service. Nice wine list. Delicious steaks and sides. Modern and trendy decor. Definitely worth the money for amazing experience.
Be the first to ReplyWhen I called for reservations they were able to
When I called for reservations they were able to accommodate my boyfriend and I. We arrived early but they didn't seat us right away. We ordered two drinks at the bar before getting settled. Cocktails were very good, both were delicious. We ordered a bottle of wine to the table. The seafood was fresh, and the sauces accompanied them very well. The steak was great it had a super crispy crust and was cooked medium just how we asked. The sides were all good they did give us a side we didn't order but all together the service, and food was 5 star quality.
