Best sushi on the island
Hands down, the best sushi in Maui. The restaurant is run by a lovely couple in an unassuming strip mall, but do not let that deter you. Far better than Japengo or Sansei and infinitely better than Spago or Morimoto. Be sure to call at least a month ahead for a reservation, it’s is a very small establishment.
Be the first to ReplyTraditional Sushi in South Maui
Was able to get a table of four 30 days out when they start taking reservations. Very much traditional preparation without all the sauces etc (unlike say Miso Fat down the road which is very good too). Shared the Omakase...spectacular...so fresh. Presentation on the plate was special. Best sushi I had on Maui. Unpretentious location in the corner of a strip mall but ver nice inside. Highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyBest Sushi experience ever
What a great experience, the sushi was amazing the service great and the gran maestro took a picture with us . Would do it again in a heartbeat. Small place very hard to get in need to reserve 2 months ahead of time, order Omakase, worth the price.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best sushi experiences of my life
I have been eating sushi since I was a freshman in high school, and you could say I'm "well-eaten" when it comes to sushi restaurants. Hiro-san, and his establishment, are easily top 3 experiences I've been lucky enough to enjoy.
Proper traditional old-school Japanese sushi bar. The entire restaurant can fit MAYBE 13 people total. There is a 6:00-7:30 seating and a 7:30-close. That's all they accommodate each evening. No online reservations, must make them by phone. I made my reservation on May 2nd for a June 15th reservation (a Tuesday) and we managed to get the very last table. I originally tried calling in March and was told to call back starting in May for June dining (so in 2 days they filled up all but one spot on a Tuesday night a month out).
Food: 5/5. Hiro-san is a master at his craft.
Service: 5/5. The waitress's name escapes me as I'm writing this, but she was wonderful and attentive.
Experience: 5/5. The restaurant was mostly locals (and regulars at that). Hiro seems to make his customers feel like family.
Best Sushi I've Had Outside of Japan
Annual patronage of by-far my favorite sushi spot I've ever found (outside of Japan, of course). Absolutely sublime mastery of his craft in a place that seats a dozen (maybe), open 4 hrs part of the week, and generally no take out. Reservations recommended a month in advance. I play by the rules and get in line often. I've lost count of our visits but all have been orgasmically memorable. I always go omakase and let the master choose... and then add. For those of us fond of uni (sea urchin)... wowza... always literally ice cream of the ocean 😘. Beyond sampling mine, my wife went with a smattering of rolls too, and tea. I hit up the Karakuchi and Honjozo sakes this time around with unagi (fresh water eel) for desserty sweetness. Paired well with the unago (salt water eel) that came with the omakase, too... rolled out.

Make you reservation now!!! Great sushi restaurant, one of the best in Maui, it fills up months in advance so if you like traditional sushi, with the freshest ingredients make you reservation now.
Be the first to ReplyOmakase all the way!
The Sushi Chef and owner, Hiro is an artist. Well worth making reservations a month in advance, keep this in mind if you're only here for a week vacation. There are no drop ins, there only 12 seats and time slots fill up fast.
We always order the Omakase, Chefs choice, and the Ankimo. Mouth watering and deliciously fresh. We’ve also tried The black cod as an appetizer, wonderful!
Service is great, parking stalls are very narrow, there is a restroom outside the restaurant and requires a key.
Really, if you can get reservations, this is a must go to secret sushi restaurant, best on the islands.
Small and special
Make a reservation here and you will not be sorry. Sushi Sashimi hand rolls all great. Owner and staff bring a certain flair that compliments the fresh fish and large menu. Locals favorite and visitors adore! Gotta love this place it’s all good! Fun spot for sushi lovers best on Maui. All agree Cannot beat this spot!
Be the first to ReplyBook 1 month out and worth it!
Koiso is a very small approx 14 seat family run sushi resto in Dolphin Plaza across from Kamaole Beach 1.
Demand is high for good reason and you have to book 1 month out by phone only, after 5pm local time so plan way ahead. Hours are very limited.
Menu is concise, fish is so fresh, quality very high. Service friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend.
2 people: omaske style Nigiri 12pc, sashimi sampler, 2 large rolls and large bottle of quality sake $200.
Hope to return again soon.
Wowwwww
Maui and Japan meet up at this fabulous Sushi sashimi GEM! Call 30 days out at 5 pm for a res and get Omakase

Make a reservation well in advance as this is an intimate restaurant that seats 20 at most. Absolutely amazing sushi made right in front of you at the bar. Great service, they do not do take out, so they are attentive to their restaurant guests. The prices are higher but is reflected in the food quality.
Be the first to ReplyWas very disappointed
All the reviews we read were glowing plus the rating received 4.5 stars, but my husband and I were extremely disappointed. We love sushi and frequent sushi restaurants back home in Orlando. By no means are we sushi restaurant experts, but we go to enough of them to know what to expect.
1. The restaurant menu had a total of 6 roll options, and three of them were a version of a California Roll.
2. When asked to customize a roll, as we are use to ordering specialty rolls, they were willing to try and accommodate. Our disappointment was that they don’t have fryers to make tempura shrimp, so we could not have any custom rolls that would include this. They also didn’t have cream cheese as a filling option for the roll.
3. The fish was fresh and the sushi was pretty good taste wise. Again, because of the reviews, I was expecting it to be amazing!
4. The pricing was not clear. We ordered 1 roll that was listed as $11, 1 custom roll which if priced as the most expensive roll, it would be $22 and 3 orders of Nigiri and our total for food was $70. Not sure how this makes sense.
5. Although this didn’t affect us because we were first to order, but some guests waited over 45 min for their food. The restaurant served only 12ppl during our 6p seating (capable of 15ppl, but 3 seats were left open). Since there is a single sushi chef to prepare all the food, each couple/group had to wait one by one. My husband and I finished eating and checked out before 6 of the guests in our same 6pm seating had even gotten food. I guess if you go into it with this expectation, you won’t be disappointed by the long wait.
I would like to say that the servers and sushi chef were very very nice and sweet. They were hospitable and kind. Our issues stemmed from the lack of menu variety, and transparent pricing.
