This is by far the best sushi hands down on maui.
The service is impeccable. The sushi I'd just beautiful art no fancy rolls here just pure taste of fish and it was an honor to dine here and will definitely be back.

The most authentic sushi on the island and better than almost all of the 100+ places I've been to worldwide. Get the omakase and you will not be disappointed. Hiro-san has a wide variety of high quality fish that he presents very artistically. Call the first day of the month for reservations that month. If you don't, you'll probably miss out. Oishi! Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyThe sushi is amazing.
It's a lovely small quiet spot in Kihei. The tsunomono is lovely & the toro is beautiful. The omakase is too good to be true too. You need reservations a month in advance. The staff is just adorable too.

I'm thrilled to wait my turn as it's a gift to watch the this master at his work and then to enjoy his artistry at this wonderful diamond of a restaurant in a small local retail center. Best sushi on the island! Eating at the bar is always a major highlight of our Maui holiday when we are lucky enough to visit. Charming experience! Learn the ropes, make a reservation, wait for the date and enjoy! Cheers, Sensei! Thank you, yet again!

The fish was amazing super fresh and the chef cooks with such a delicacy. The service is very personal and every penny you spend there is worthy. I recommend the clam soup just to start!
Be the first to ReplyAlways amazing but tough reservation.
Omakase plate and sunomono are my go to orders and if I'm feeling hungry, I'll order a few extra pieces of nigiri or the 69 roll. I love the kanpachi, hamachi belly in particularly.
Be the first to Replywhat can I say.
Very small sushi bar tucked into the corner of Dolphin Plaza in Kihei. Seating at the bar for 10 plus a table that seats 4. The sushi is incredible! We ordered the clam soup, Taco Sunomo, and Omakase . The freshest well presented sushi I have ever had! They only take reservations.I placed mine 5 weeks ahead of my visit as it is very popular and only has 2 sittings per night. My only regret.... I should have placed 2 reservations!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyThank you Chef Hiro-san and Chef Hiro-san's wife.
I am so grateful that I had the chance to experience this sushi bar, the food, the service and the environment. Anthony Bourdain has also visited this sushi bar - that should say enough. I ordered the Blue fin Chu-toro, salmon, California roll, spicy tuna roll and 69 roll, and miso soup. They provided a complimentary salted edamame and fresh fruit as desserts afterwards. What can I say, the sushi does not get any fresher than this. The quality, care and art that Chef Hiro puts in all the orders is amazing. If you can, I would advise sitting by the bar. This is a less 15 sushi bar seater. You must have a reservation and you must call to get this reservation. I highly suggest doing so months in advance. This is so far at the top of my list for the best sushi places I have visited. I've tasted numerous AYCE and Non-AYCE in and out of Vegas. It has been almost a week since leaving Maui and everyday I wish I can walk into Koiso and eat their Sushi.

Hiro is lit the 12-piece omakase is you for sure need a reservation (like a month in advance at least) the staff are fun and nice, the store is a cute small sushi spot. definitely worth the $$$. next time I visit, I'll try non-omakase items to see what else is tasty

I've eaten sushi in some amazing places from New York to Los Angeles to Tokyo's Ginza district. Many have been good. None have come close to the pure artistry served up by Chef Hiro at Koiso tonight. The freshest fish, served up artfully. What more do you need? If you're in Kihei or Wailea, you should be eating at Koiso. Full stop. There is no meaningful excuse for why not.
Be the first to ReplySome of the best and most fresh sushi we have ever had.
Really small interior but the owners are super nice. Definitely call and make a reservation several weeks in advance so you can get a spot. The fresh mackerel nigiri was my favorite piece of the night. Can't wait to come back!

Here for the second time in 5 years, and again the best sushi I've had in a long time (probably since 5 years ago when I was here last!). Family is super cute, outstanding service (be patient, there is only one sushi chef preparing food for 14-16 people at once), and the food is absolutely impeccable! I will definitely make it a third, fourth, fifth, etc. time here for as long as this place remains open! This place is a MUST when you visit Maui! Get the omakase!
Be the first to ReplyWhere to begin.
.. I love this place! First off; it's a family business. Looks like the dad is the sushi chef, mom and daughter are servers. Super cute Japanese family. Also, their system is a bit weird as it felt like waiting forever for your food. But trust me, Be patient! They'd liked to bring out most things at once. And there's only one chef making sushi for 16 people. Moving onto the food. Omgee. It is excellent rice and excellent sushi. I'd say it's comparable to a 4-5 stars sushi high end restaurant in terms of quality and flavoring. And pricing is so cheap! I've NEVER had Omakase (chefs selection) at 55/pp (post is 1/2023). Literally every omakase I've had in my life is at least $98 and above. And I've had quite a few Omakase. Every piece melts in my mouth. Would definitely come back. Ps. You'd need go make at least 1 month out for reservation. I hope they'll still be in business when I come back to Maui in the future. According to the mom, they're getting old so not sure how long they can keep up with the demanding pace. :(
Be the first to ReplyIndeed the best sushi spot in Maui.
Small, intimate, and a good vibe. Service outstanding. Book in advance!!!!
Be the first to ReplyThis is far and away the best sushi I've ever had.
We came to Maui on our baby moon and I had to make a reservation a month and a half in advance. It was so worth it it's ridiculous. One of the best meals I've ever eaten in my entire life. Not just sushi... just compared to anything I've ever eaten. I can't even describe how much better this is than every other piece of sushi I've ever had. The ambiance is amazing. The Saki was amazing. The staff and the chef were amazing. I cannot express enough how impactful this meal was in my life. It literally changed me and how I looked and sushi and quality. 5 stars is not enough. It makes me want to take every review I've done and bring it down a star just so this stands apart from the rest. I literally teared up a little when I took my first bite. I don't like a lot of things when it comes to sushi. I got the omakase and loved every bit of it. My wife was like do you even like fish eggs? And I was like I don't think so but if ima try it anywhere here seems like a good place. every single bite I had was mind blowing. 72626198264928639293773 stars

Lucky to spend 1 week in Maui and made reservations here for 2 nights. Figured why not, if it's bad, cancel 2nd. Completely 100% wrong - it's good. That good. Expensive yes. But you're paying for quality, for the skill of the chef, for the ultimate experience. Watch how he prepares something as simple as a portion of rice by hand. Try doing that at home. Fail miserably. Appreciate the decades of experience and attention to detail. Go, sit down, trust a master chef.I believe someone asked why not expand, a new store, more tables. His reply? "Why? Very happy where I'm at."
Be the first to ReplyThis 12 seater gem is as simple as it gets.
There's nothing fancy about it. The fresh sushi is front and center. I haven't had such fresh sushi since I ate at the Tokyo fish market. It was DELICIOUS and expertly prepared. We ordered the Omakase ($50 pp). The lovely chef created a platter of the best and freshest fish available for that day, ( uni, tunas, salmon, unagi, swordfish, ebi, tamago,scallop,..) There were 12 pieces and I couldn't even finish it. The meal concluded with a complimentary bowl of fresh fruit. Reservations are hard to get but try calling between 5- 6pm . I lucked out n must have got a cancellation the same week I arrived. I tried calling months in advanced but no luck . I noticed the phone would continuously ring while I was there but the 2 attentive servers were much too busy attending to the guests to answer the phone. So here's a tip, try calling between 5-6 before they open. I also loved it so much we called in a few days later and ordered a Omakase platter for 4 as a take out. You need to give at least 24 hours notice and they only take a few take out orders each evening. It was just as GOOD as eating in the restaurant. This is a MUST if you are a sushi lover.
Be the first to ReplyTrue authentic sushi and excellent.
Extremely small (only seats 16 people max) so you have to make a reservation well in advance but worth it!
Be the first to ReplyI love sushi so when this place showed up as 4.
5 stars on Yelp of course I had to try it. My hubby called so many times to get rsvp and I was thrilled when he scored a rsvp. The restaurant is tiny. We were seated to the left side when you enter. Service was mediocre. It seems they cater more to the locals than visitors, which is fine, but that meant we couldn't sit at the bar area since it's reserved for them apparently. Now for the sushi. There was nothing special about it. I really don't get the hype about this place. My husband's sushi was warm!? I had the omakase and nothing was memorable.
Be the first to ReplyWe booked a month and a half in advance.
We ordered the Omakase. Everything was super fresh and delicious. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyYears ago during a visit back home to Maui in the days
Years ago during a visit back home to Maui in the days before covid we happened to visit the tiny strip mall where Koiso is located. As I peered through the glass windows I thought...wow this place looks legit! Fast forward a few years later upon our return to Maui, I absolutely had to try Koiso and see what all the buzz was about. Living on the East Coast, I dutifully set my calendar and timer for the first of the month and 10:00 pm (they open at 5:00 pm) to nab a highly sought after reservation. I was lucky enough to land a table during our trip and waited in eager anticipation for our visit. When we arrived the hostess checked our vaccine cards and verified my reservation before seating us at the bar. The social distancing was superb as on my sister and I and another party were seated at the bar. They even provided plexiglass dividers between us for additional safety. The only other guests in the restaurant was a party of 5 seated at the only table in the restaurant. I proceeded to order the only most appropriate dish...the omakase sushi. This was absolutely outstanding! The fish was super fresh, prepared beautifully with thick and well trimmed cuts and sushi rice was prepared perfectly. Some of my favorites were the hamachi, kanpachi, aji, chu-toro, maguro, and anago. The absolute best was a combination uni (from hokkaido) and ikua. Oh man, this just melted in your mouth and was so savory and delicious. Oishii! The service was extremely friendly and attentive. I enjoyed meeting the staff as they seem to care deeply about making sure guests have a great experience. We had an amazing visit and I am looking forward to our next trip to Maui and to Koiso!
Be the first to ReplyIf you love sushi, you'll love this place.
My fiance and I eat sushi a lot (about two times a week), and this place has the best fish I've tasted. The way it's prepared is very traditional in Japanese culture. We got the chef's choice, and it was incredible! The place was clean and looked well kept. If you want to eat here, I recommend calling months in advance. It's usually booked, so it's hard to get a spot, but they do have cancelations.

My must to go place when in Maui ! ย Need reservation (good luck), or show up alone and politely ask if they will have one seat available at any time of their convenience. ย They are slightly stern (at first), but friendly.Traditional ambiance and traditional Sushi for a very pleasant evening.
Be the first to ReplyOur go to sushi restaurant in Maui.
ย We like it so much we went twice this trip which required us to drive the 2 hour roundtrip from Kaanapali to Kihei. ย Making reservations isn't the easiest either since you have to call the 1st of the month to make reservations for the following month. ย Be prepared for a busy phone line that you probably won't get thru until a few hours later. It is a no frills no thrills type sushi dinner that offers very fresh and yummy tasting seafood! ย We typically order the omakase and then order any additional items from the special a la carte menu. ย I'm typically not an Aji fan but when I am here I always get seconds! My tummy and I always leave Koiso happy and full.
Be the first to ReplyThey push omakase.
They ย have the plates ย pre-made & ready to serve. We prefer to order what WE want...certain sushi & sashimi, etc. So we did not agree to omakase & the sushi chef was pissed. Not at all special- atmosphere way too quiet & boring, fish not great, and can't compare at all to what I get in my hometown of LA. Never again. The folks that like this place haven't experienced good sushi.
