Surprisingly Disappointing
The service of course is excellent, but Kosaka is not anywhere close to the level of a Michelin star. First and foremost, edomae sushi is about the fish. Whether it's brought in from Japan or not, the quality of the fish was mediocre at best. The subtle deliciousness of the white fish was missing as well as the rich oiliness of the toros, kanpachis. The Hokkaido uni, instead of being rich and carrying a fullness that stays in your mouth, was shallow. The appetizer, a light tomato gelatin over a burrata mash, was missing flavor (and what place does burrata have in a sushi bar?). The grated snow crab appetizer tasted like it came from crab frozen too long - just so lacking in flavor. Lastly, we've never left an edomae meal that costs $250 pp hungry. At every other location, including Tokyo, they always ask if you would like something else and the answer is always, "please no thank you". At Kosaka, at the end of the Omikase, we ordered more because we were still hungry. And what did we order? Otoro, which was not even given during the Omikase. In summary, I would not recommend Kosaka. As some of the other reviewers have stated, it is terribly overpriced and underperforming. So sorry.

Total garbage. I have no idea how this place got a Michelin star. We arrived 5 mins earlier and our table was not ready. After 20 minutes it was still not ready. There were two empty chairs and the porter still was telling out that our seats are not ready. I mean this is just basic courtesy. Business like this needs to be closed. Go to Sushi Nakazawa and see what quality sushi means. Awful!

We got the omakase and everything was absolutely amazing. Fish quality was out of this world. We sat at the sushi bar and itโs totally worth the price difference. Two less positive details: the toro with caviar was disappointing and not worth the extra $50; two customers got surprise little birthday cakes but we only a little โHappy Anniversaryโ sign. Michelin star well deserved.

I visited Kosaka in November, 2019. My wife and I agree that this was the best sushi meal either of us has ever had. Every dish was a work of art to all of the senses. Perfectly prepared and seasoned rice... itโs surprising how many places get the rice wrong. The fish selection was varied, interesting and fresh. I highly recommend adding uni to your omakase, as it was so fresh and rich. The service was secondsto none. The service team was always available, anticipated our needs, yet did not hover. Kosaka provided a truly exceptional meal in an intimate setting. I will be back!

This felt really average while price not so average and quite high. There were maybe two standouts but one was an add-on. When I finished, I was not full. Not that many pieces. Usually the good Omakases will be crowded but not this one and I was pretty much eating alone and it was not that early. Even at prime hours like 7pm or 8pm, there is still no one here. While the service is adequate and friendly, the ambiance is quite lacking. Iโm not sure what but it could be because it was so empty.

our second visit to a small tranquil sushi oasis in the Village area. Chef supervises staff who patiently prepares wonderful, succulent, and diverse plates. the most memorable, of course, was Hokaido unni, which is purchased separate from the Omekase menu and starts the meal.. service was unobtrusive and professional. we chose a bottle of Yamoto Shizuku Junmai Daiginjo sake to compliment our menu BEWARE this is 16% and can hit you if you don't pace
overall, a place to return to particularly for peace tranquility, and romance

happened to pass by one summer day when it was closed and decided to try this was before it was awarded its well deserved first Michelin star. now back for a second visit! a must to sit at the counter as well as beginning with the optional unni, this evening from Hokaido, succulent and sensuous. 15 course omekase menu is enough to fill up on. all fresh, all wonderful, all special. paired with a lovely bottle of sake to make the evening special
expensive but for a top of the line sushi emporium in NYC, in line
highly recommended

An exquisite culinary experience. Worth visiting New York just to experience the perfect night out. The best fish served by the best sushi chef.

My friend and I had a fabulous birthday sushi omakase dinner at Kosaka. What a warm and friendly chef and staff! They guided us and explained all the pieces. Since we love uni, my friend and I had uni caviar. It was so fresh and so good! Extra great thing was they used Osetra Caviar.
The sushi was pristinely fresh. ย We savored and enjoyed every piece. ย I especially loved the scallop, salmon roe, and medium fatty tuna. The scallop with yuzu foam was creamy, meltingly tender with a lovely gentle
Truly exceptional

Excellent omakase with outstanding service and staff. Chef Yoshihiko San presented an exquisite omakase with perfection that only can be described as an elegant performance of culinary art. Everything on the menu were carefully prepared with extreme attention to detail. The dinner was Exceptional. The best omakase I had in a long time, especially in NYC without breaking may savings. Highly recommended for anybody who are passionate about sushi.
