I have no words to describe how amazing I was treated and how delicious absolutely everything is. It is very expensive, but you really enjoy the experience as you can watch the sushimans in front of you making your meal.

This was my best Japanese food experience ever. You don't often experience such a taste explosion. The space at the bar, which allows you to experience everything live, an outstanding waitress (Maria) and a variety of different compositions - I was thrilled, even if the evening was very expensive.
Be the first to ReplyHuge disappointment
Once again a Japanese Restaurant which serves approximate cuisine and which bears no resemblance to what you can eat in Japan! She only has Japanese inspiration! What we ate this evening is just a pale imitation. The presentations are basic as are the tastes. we ventured to speak a little Japanese, but there was no response. The staff, although Asian, speaks Spanish as well as a Spanish speaker! For the change of scenery, we can say that it was a failure…. I strongly advise that for a first Japanese experience, it is better to choose another address…
Be the first to ReplyJapanese Very rich
Very rich tasting menu. The restaurant seems a bit shabby when you enter, but once inside, the place multiplies in size. All exquisite dishes. They don't give it away, at €200, but it's worth trying.
Be the first to ReplyMAGICAL
Enjoying the food this restaurant serves, comfortably seated at the bar while a chef prepares it in front of you, is a real pleasure. If the best chef of all time sits next to you while you listen to him discuss the dishes with the owner, the experience becomes magical. In my taste, the best Japanese restaurant in Spain.

Incredible service, great professionals, an art. Unforgettable experience. If you want an oriental tasting menu of 10 go.
Be the first to ReplyVery good dinner
Certainly a pleasant experience. We have made the menu large, which is I think about 18 dishes. Of the 18, all but have been great. My wife loved one of them and I didn't like it very much...but it doesn't matter much. The drinks, the service, the place...everything perfect. I would have liked to say hello to Mr. Hideki, but he wasn't there that day. Bad luck!. Perfectly recommendable.

Koy-Shunka might seem like just another Japanese restaurant, but it is not. We made a reservation to eat at the bar (highly recommended) and we had the privilege of seeing how the Swiss machinery in their kitchen works. Hideki Matsuhisa, present in the restaurant, is aware of everything at all times, testing, supporting, thinking. Serious, very serious for what we are used to on networks and television. The Koy menu is sensational and sufficient. We have been to other star restaurants and left super full and with this menu we ended up well. Throughout the dinner, a cook prepares sushi and leaves it on a ceramic pedestal that all the bar diners have in front of them. Furthermore, if a chef is preparing a dish that catches your attention and that is not included in the Koy menu, you can ask for it as an extra and give yourself the pleasure of trying it. All dishes have an important preparation background. The sauces, the broths, the marinades, the dressings... Everything is integrated harmoniously to take the diner to heaven with a top product. Special mention to the Kokotxas and the belly niguiri. We ordered the extra Japanese wagyu beef and it did not disappoint. It was the first time we tried it and they gave it to us in 3 preparations. In braised tacos, in niguiri and in tartar with shrimp. Both the cooks and the waiters are friendly and approachable. They behaved great. It is not easy to have the customer's eye constantly watching what you do as it is easy to spot small mistakes. At the end of the service, Chef Matsuhisa began to clean the ceramic pedestals where they had been placing our sushi during dinner and we missed an interaction with the diner to exchange impressions and get to know him, as has happened to us in other restaurants in this level, but he did not lend himself to it. So from here we call it Arigatō. We find the humility and discipline that the Chef transmits by being side by side with the rest of the cooks to direct them and ensure that everything turns out perfect, cleaning dishes if necessary, as was the case. But we miss contact with the customer in an environment where it is easy to access because the customer is right in front of the kitchen. We confirm that the restaurant lives up to its Michelin star. But we are convinced that, with a little creativity and vision, you can take yourself even higher to consolidate your dominance in a world with a lot of competition. But that depends on Hideki, maybe he is comfortable as he is and will settle for it.
Be the first to ReplyA very generous degustation
This Japanese restaurant serves extremely high quality sea food and beef prepared with precision and flair. The service was attentive and they accommodated our dietary needs well. The only reason I couldn’t rate it five stars is that the offering was so extensive none of us could eat it all which was a real shame. Each course had multiple parts and because the ingredients were so rich (tuna otoro, caviar etc) by the end we were bursting at the seams. Make sure you go there with an empty stomach!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful food, inattentive service
Food is very delicious. From seafood to Wagyu to the ending dessert, all of them are quite nice. The atmosphere is nice as well. The whole kitchen is open and you can smell the barbecued meat already from your seat. We really recommend sitting at the bar so that you can see your dish being made right in front of you. We recommend the slightly more expensive menu and if you choose the more affordable menu we recommend to add the Wagyu. It is really tasty! The minus point is the service. We had a Spanish waitress and she was not really responsive. Our water was not refilled timely. I got hurt twice by fish bone( this was one of the minus point) and her only response was a very short “sorry”. I think for a Michelin One star restaurant, they should really improve their service quality.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous experience
Not just food, it’s a performance. The food was great, the staff was great. Just make sure you go hungry. I only wish the waiters would refill the drinks when your glass is empty.
Be the first to ReplyAll the ingredients for a great meal but falls short on consistency and service. Cannot recommend.
Wanted to love this place as the food had some amazing highlights but the service and consistency was just not there. Inventive dishes and unique flavors and textures keep it interesting. Unfortunately at this price point and expectation of a Michelin star experience there were numerous misses on basic things one would expect from any restaurant at any price point. Some of the highlights: caviar, tuna, squid, waygu, mackeral, apple ice cream were all 5/5 amazing! Note most of the highlights were ONLY on the larger tasting menu so plan for that if you are coming. Some of the lowlights: Some nigiri are extremely small portions. Ikura wasn’t special at all. Oyster and toro was bland. Lobster was mediocre, the aged portion was bad. It took 30 minutes between one of the courses which seemed to be a mistake. Pours of wine and sake completely different between staff. Having to ask multiple times for water, wine or anything as the waiter forgot we ordered or asked the first time. The waiter taking the wine list immediately after ordering and not asking my dining partner who had an empty glass if they wanted to order. This took 3.5 hours not due to the number of courses or presentation but far below average service.

We visited for lunch based on the reviews and the Michelin star, we were not disappointed! We sat at the counter of the open kitchen which is a great place to watch the skills and talents of the chefs as they create each dish from scratch. We went for the larger tasting menu with the wine pairings, I’d recommend this if you have a big appetite as the dishes keep coming but they do offer a smaller tasting menu as well. The wine pairings are great as you get everything from beer, sake and wines all of which went well with the respective dishes. The menu is superb, one title per course but you are delivered multiple elements of each title all prepared and presented beautifully. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyCool Michelin Star Japanese Experience in Barcelona
Fixed menu only here, and it was really good, I liked how they tried to showcase using the same ingredients in multiple ways which made it a cool experience. It was also relatively easy to get into the time of year we went, so points for that. Overall food was great, esp the nigiri. There were a handful of bites we didn't enjoy, and I think the sushi rice could have been more fresh and seasoned better for a restaurant of this price range and reputation. The rice texture was on point for me though. I believe there are better omakase restaurants in town, but they are just really hard to find and book, so this is a very very good one that is accessible. Maybe I should not have expected an omakase, and instead more of a fine-dining Michelin star-style spot. Service was great for both English and Spanish speakers. Def worth going out of your way for a visit.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic!
The staff were absolutely phenomenal. Myself and my partner went, him being Spanish and me being English. They explained every food item in great detail and passion in both English and Spanish. It was excellent service and amazing quality. I highly recommend to anybody visiting Barcelona.
