An extraordinary little gem on the lower east side
My oh my. This is one of the coolest, unpretentious, mind-blowing sushi experiences you will have in NYC. This is a place you want to take friends and visitors. Yes it is expensive but well worth every cent. Nondescript doorway in the lower village (start of the charm). Outstanding service at a sushi bar of around 20 seats. A couple of tables but skip them. The sake is delicious but the FOOD!!!. Pre-fix and whatever the chef makes. No chitchat, no formal discussion of what you are getting. Just absolute deliciousness in every bite. Miso soup is included along with some extra pieces thrown in if the Chef likes your attitude. This is a destination restaurant for people who want to experience the โrealโ NYC experience. This might be the best sushi spot in the City. It is a hike which is why there are other rivals closer to midtown but well worth a visit
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Deal
Itโs good to know you can eat the real deal for a great deal. I like the 12 pieces option and with a beer or some sake, you only at a hundred and change - a terrific deal. You may not be fully full but I like to stop by at the KFC nearby and get a leg and thigh as a light snack and then youโll be fully full.
The space is not bad though feels a bit tight. I also do not like the neighborhood much but will come back since the price and quality is very good here.
There are many options like 16 and 20 pieces which will be quite a lot so you better be hungry but they also let you change along the way in case youโre already full.
The service is very impressive because they manage to do their job without being all over you as can happen when you eat at the bar. I donโt remember seeing a table. The best spot is at the corner where there is plenty of space in the back but they rarely give you that seat next to the wall unless itโs full since itโs not facing the chefs.
Iโm kinda tired of paying over $200 for good Omakase. No need to if you come here.
Amazing omakase experience
Had the 150 per person 20 piece omakase. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. I could watch the chefs create sashimi all day.

Excellent omakase, pricey but good quaity ingredients, served with extreme care and very friendly staff, cooks and servers.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the Best Meals of My Life
Absolutely fantastic. One of the best meals I have ever had. Very pricey, but worth it as a once-a-year-thing. Totally unpretentious. Must have reservations. I enjoyed every moment of it, and tried not to count the pieces as I didn't want to know when the end would be near.
I can still taste it just by seeing the photos here on TA!
A very fun and satisfying food journey
We were brought to Kura by a friend and long-time NYC native.
I really enjoyed the "secret" and intimate vibe of the venue - perfect for connecting and conversing.
Nice variety of dishes, I enjoyed that there was a nice ranging between familiar and exotic. The meal was topped off with a delightful little sesame macaroon.
The chef was friendly and very fun.
We would definitely recommend and return.
Great experience!
A friend and I wanted to re-experience sushi and an Omakase seemed to be the best option to do so.
We took the 150 USD (20 pieces, Miso soup, desert and green thee) option and we were both very satisfied and positively suprized about the experience. Definitely worth every penny and I would recommend anyone in NYC to visit this place (reservation required). Not sure though, but I believe that this place also offers more variety in terms of their Omakase menu.
One take-away, the 150 USD option was more than enough! You could easily go with the less expensive option!
And, do not forget to read some Omakase etiquette and learn some Japanese words first :)!
Arigato!!
