Really didn’t get this place at all. We had walked past a couple of nights earlier and attracted by the flames of the outside heaters. Reviews looked ok so we booked last minute on the Sunday it was very close to our hotel.
We arrived a polite 10 minutes early and the greeter told us to wait outside the restaurant until she found out if our table was ready (I mean on the street). Ten minutes later she returned and grabbed some menus and took us to one of the many many spare tables in the outside area.
Could she have let us sit at the bar while she checked? It was certainly empty.
Anyway once seated she asked us as to our water requirements which we obliged and we also enquired about ordering a drink. No chance. The server will do that who will be with you shortly! Done with out emotion. Certainly no joy there. A Union issue maybe?
What is the point of that person?
Anyhow a very pleasant young server called Jose did a great job of turning things round and was very good all evening.(that was the 2 stars right there).
To be honest the menu was a bit odd but my friend assured me it was modern American?
There was a little theme of Crostini with toppings which looked good on paper for starters. Three each so 6 flavours to try. Regrettably the execution was very poor. Not nice crispy bread with fresh toppings but stale white baguette cut in rings with a variety of cheap supermarket standard toppings.
Due to the oddness of the menu I had played it safe with a cheeseburger for main and an ok cheeseburger is what I got. No complaints. My friend had a very odd pasta dish, the like of which I have never seen before.
I troubled the dessert menu for a very dry old cheesecake which could have been bought from ASDA?
So back to the venue itself. Once you’re inside you realise this outside space was cobbled together to probably meet outside seating requirements during Covid. Fair play I say apart from when you feel the need to use the bathroom you go inside the building and enter a massive space with high ceilings and bohemian furniture and great vibe. It seemed empty and at no point did anyone offer us a table there.
It wouldn’t have made the food any better but it might have made a really tragic evening less so.
Sorry!
