This restaurant has a good environment and service is good.
My highlight of the platter is the crab. I don't mind order a whole crab instead of the half.

We had dinner for my husband's birthday here and everything was excellent! The steaks were cooked to perfection and the seafood platter was fresh and delicious! The service was also great! We tried to speak in French as much as possible but they were very accommodating. Definitely recommend.

My wife and I go at least once per visit and while I have no idea how it compares to all of the other famous and antique grand brasseries, it has always been excellent when we have visited. First things first it's a huge space with historically important and cool decorations which means it's nice to just absorb the surroundings as you eat -- I absolutely love the atmosphere. Second the service will be sparse and aloof though mostly attentive and almost always pleasant enough -- do keep in mind that it's not fine dining so you won't get pampered. I will also say that during one occasion a member of our party felt accosted for asking for a substitution in a dish which was totally that person's fault for asking for the dish to be modified. If you're the kind of person who doesn't take kindly to someone not letting you tell them how to change their food then go elsewhere or stay home and cook for yourself. As to the food:1. Oysters are always fresh and tasty -- not as vast of a selection as some places nor as personally curated as say L'Avant Comptoir de Mer the Grand Cru platter never disappoints;2. Onion soup -- always good, always scalding hot;3. Frisée salad -- chock full of lardons though the egg is more hard boiled than poached so not my favorite;4. Beef tartare -- excellent and a massive portion, though the fries accompanying it were a bit meh (oddly enough the fries another visit with the moules frites were fantastic);5. Mussels steamed in Chablis -- always delicious;6. Monkfish casserole -- very hearty though not a huge portion for the price;7. Steak frites -- came out very rare (actually pretty bloody) but ok by me;8. Chestnut veloute -- a bit muted but decent And 9. Floating island -- one of the biggest versions of the dish I've tried and it was great

Thought it would be touristy but the classics were done right. Lovely steak frite, skate and profiteroles were perfect. *would be nice if rolls were warm.

Great service and great food! We had the Coupole seafood platter, tuna tartare, and Riesling mussels with fries. The seafood platter was fresh and fulfilling. The service was amazing!
Be the first to ReplyPerfect spot for a relaxing lunch.
Prix fixe menu and good wine prices make it reasonably inexpensive and the ambiance, service and food quality are excellent. We had great fun and I highly recommend it if you're in the area. We made a reservation and it was full so consider that as well.

I go to La Coupole for the atmosphere, always busy, the cool Art Deco décor and the fresh sea food.As often in Paris' Brasseries, it can be a little difficult to get a waiter's attention, they are running around taking care of many tables, so you just have to be patient.I am from la Bretagne and picky about seafood (to be honest about anything that goes in my plate), and La Coupole doesn't disappoint. I also like the fact that you can order exactly what you want, you don't have to pick one of their selected seafood platter. Since I was having dinner by myself, a half crab was perfect, a few oysters, bulots, shrimps, everything was extremely fresh and came with delicious bread and a generous amount of good quality salted butter. There is also a bar, but really you want to soak up the atmosphere at a table and take your time!
Be the first to ReplyI had higher hopes and maybe that's where I went wrong.
First, I will start with the staff. They were very kind, provided good service, and tried to speak English to help us with our order. I'm grateful for that as I never expect others to speak my language. If you want oysters/raw bar type meal, this is your place! I don't like oysters, so I skipped this. I ordered the chicken fricasse and I'll say it was okay. The gravy sauce on it was yummy, and the accompanying carrots were cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the lobster ravioli and said it was one of the best things he has ever eaten. So again, go the seafood route if you're dining here. We also ordered the the avocado-prawn starter and I enjoyed it. It has grapefruit or maybe blood orange slices on it, plus lettuce, prawns, and avocado. The sauce was similar to a "thousand island" sauce (for the Americans reading this) and complimented everything nicely. The decor is Art Deco, which I love! We chose to sit outside and I was immediately kicking myself upon remembering that the interior was Art Deco. A great and lively atmosphere indoors or out.

This place came highly recommended and it was very disappointing. Our server did not speak English (which is fine), but didn't make any attempts to try to accommodate us to figure out what we wanted to order. Finding another server or having someone help translate what we are asking/saying, would've made the experience better. I had the French onion soup for my starter, which was delicious. For my main course, I had the Lobster Ravioli and it was not good at all. It lacked flavor majorly. I wish I hadn't ordered that. For dessert, I recommend Bourbon Vanilla Crème Brûlée and Crêpes Suzette Flambéed with Grand Marnier. The cocktails are delicious, I recommend Kiki.Overall, not a great experience. If I ever do come back, I will hopefully try something with flavor.

Six people in our group contracted Covid on the day we met at La Coupole. It may have been a coincidence, but what an extraordinary one!

during my many solo meals in paris, this was one of my favorite dinners! i had a lovely quiet corner to myself in the outdoor area. Ordered an old fashioned to start and sipped it while people watching. The server was very nice, maybe b/c I looked lonely or something lolFor food I ordered something asparagus and moule frites! My main goal that night was to cross moule frites off my list since I was running out of the must have French dishes to try. Now to explain my "something asparagus", so lately I've been really digging grilled asparagus and with my spectacular high school level French, I thought I knew everything on the menu. Soooo without asking, I ordered it and a bowl was served shortly with 2 halves of short stalk of asparagus laid out in the middle of a wide bowl. I stared at it and asked myself "o no... 8€ for not even a whole stick of asparagus?!?!" THEN the server came and poured some matcha latte like liquid into it. OHHHHH light bulb moment - it was cream of asparagus SOUP! Lol long story short, it was delicious but I would not order again for 8€ lol Moule frites - (I'll keep this short) it was delicious n you should try it lol accompanies in Chablis sauce n it was def one of the most memorable moule frites I've had. It sounds like such a basic and simple dish, but o man that meal was glorious! After a long day, I couldn't have asked for a more satisfying meal! The restaurant was beautiful and classic! Tho the menu did seem overpriced and perhaps caters to tourists more but hey, as long as there's a good time, I'm always down!
Be the first to ReplyHorrible service.
Inattentive waiters. We spoke French as native so that was not the issue. However, waiters were rude, brought the wrong entree, upon asking to correct the mistake there was no apology but instead a snarky comment "you will have to wait now". The two entrecotes we ordered were not eatable due to horrendous quality of meat, again rude comments and even the manager was rude and condescending. The only good thing about this "glamorous diner" was profiteroles.
Be the first to ReplyThe restuarnt is beautiful and huge.
Our apps and drinks were great....especially the escargot. However, the entrees were a different story. My friend's duck was tough as old leather, the fish was dry and my lobster dish (the most expensive entree) was served ice cold. When I complained the waiter looked at me like was crazy then brought back the same cold lobster on a hot plate. This was our last meal in Paris and a huge disappointment. I submitted a review directly to the restaurant and never heard a thing back. Order carefully.

MICE!!!! The food was delicious, although the restaurant was much too brightly lit. At one point they dimmed the lights for a birthday and the place was transformed to elegance, but when they turned them up again, there was a collective sigh of disappointment. And mouse traps visible under the tables. As we were waiting for our bill, we saw a small mouse run under our feet - and then noticed a mouse poison trap under the table next to us. The health department needs to get in there.

Beautiful site but the table was wobbly, which we mentioned to our waiter who did nothing about it. He forgot the bloody mary for my husband. Then the oil for the fries was rancid. I ate better from any fast food joint. Finally, after we requested a little more time from our waiter to decide what desert to order, the maitre d' came over and slammed our table - literally... and asked quite rudely: a little desert? Right after we had told our waiter that we needed more time. I was so startled that we left. I really felt unwelcome. The couples next to us did not seem to have any issues. Took their time and were not pressured. I use to come to La Coupole with my dad all the time. But this is it for me! My advice, just take a walk to check out the pillars with the art, but don't waste your money on okay food and a strange maitre d'. The 2 stars are for the decors.

We had a lunch of fish and ships along with a bottle of wine. The fish was "ok". It was basically glorified fish sticks. The fish had no real flavor. The French fries were cold and bland. The endive salad was good. The wine was also very good. The atmosphere is nice and it seems to stay busy. Someone said the movie was featured in a French film so it is fairly well known. I don't know that I would go again though.

Wonderful service from a very professional gentleman and excellent food. This is a historic venue and has been frequented by many famous people over the years. A great value!
Be the first to ReplyWell this was unexpected.
We spent the day out of town and got back late and wanted to have a wonderful dinner. We didn't start out with a reservation so may that's what did us in. We walk in, immediately told there's an hour wait with no less than 30 tables in plain view that are open. We sit at the bar and wait for service, 25 minutes go by and no attention by the wait staff. I went to the bar twice and was assured that we would be served. Eventually I am served most likely the worst old fashioned in my life (it was on their menu, so I assumed it wasn't out of the ordinary). We are sat immediately after we received our drinks, as if it was planned, then the real fun begins. We wait for an additional 30-45 minutes at our table before being even spoken to. As soon as we get up to leave, the waiter miraculously shows up. If this was purely a food review website, this meal would get a 4.5*. The waiter and associated staff were the slowest and least organized group we've encountered on our vacation. I seriously hope your other servers are better. Please note that all guests deserve your best.

Just got into town and decided to ask the hotel front desk where is a good place to eat some French food and he recommended this place. It was a short walk away from the hotel so we decided to check it out. Certainly gives you the vibes of an authentic, old fashioned French restaurant. The waiter spoke good English so ordering was no issue. I ordered the curry pork dish that has been served since 1927. It was very tender and delicious. The peppered steak was also good with authentic French flavoring.Overall, it was a very pleasant dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is the worst one I have ever seen before.
We firstly ordered drinks and we got our beverages after we finished HALF OF UR LUNCH. Then we repeated our orders of the drinks to the waiter but he just ignored it and reply nothing. The waiters in this restaurant are not polite and irresponsible. Although the taste of the seafood is ok. Basically, this place is pretty bad that I will never come here.
