Delicious Tuscan Food in Chelsea, London
We had a wonderful dinner last night at La Famiglia. Feeling especially well taken care of by Luigi and Maurizio at a cozy corner table for three. My hubby had the veal milanese, Peter loved the rabbit and I enjoyed the pappardelle al cinghiale. Two lovely bottles of red wine later we walked home from this enchanting Tuscan family restaurant in Chelsea. There is a beautiful outdoor patio that must be fabulous for dining when the weather warms up so we will be sure to return.
Be the first to ReplyThe BEST staff. Delightful owners. Food excellent but Tuscan, not trad Italian.
I've been going here for years and will keep doing so. Those expecting a modern up market soulless Italian restaurant should go find one, there are plenty about. La Famiglia is what it is ...consistent, fun, good food and it's not pretending to be anything else. The staff and owners are like friends ...the overall experience is what it's about, not a perfectly cooked spaghetti ( though it is ).

Terrible food, bad wine, and indifferent service. The Veal Milanese was tasteless, coasted with soggy breadcrumbs; the broccoli was overcooked and limp, and the pasta was undercooked and chewy - not so much al dente as alla sega!. The rabbit my friend ordered had a rubbery texture like it had been sitting in the fridge for a week since it was first stewed. The Chianti had a nasty tar-like nose and left me with a headache. And the service staff clearly couldn't have cared less about the food, the experience of their guests, or indeed of their restaurant's once-great reputation. I first ate here 25 years ago and it was a fantastic experience - so sad to see this former neighbourhood gem fall to such lows.

Finally visited this Chelsea institution after having wanted to dine there for a long time. The menu is great, with plenty of antipasti, meat, fish, and, of course, pasta options. Bread, breadsticks, and tapenade were served before ordering which is a lovely touch and a delicious way to start the meal. For a first course we shared the bruschetta which was made with fresh tomatoes, basil and plenty of olive oil. We then both ordered the truffle pasta - lovely fresh thin pasta with plenty of truffle and olive oil, absolutely delicious. To finish the meal we shared the tiramisu and, despite not being a fan of the dessert or coffee, I loved it. Overall, a fantastic meal, delicious food in a charmingly italian setting. Food is expensive, as is the wine, but quality is impressive whilst portions may be quite small.

I’d wanted to go here for ages. Probably best for large celebrating groups but I was underwhelmed when I ate there. After hearing so many people speak highly I was expecting more. The food was good but not earth shattering and the service efficient to the point of being rapid . It’s clearly very well run but seemed impersonal.

I visited for a family dinner and everything we ate was amazing. We had a delightful waiter who had worked there for a long time and told my parents the history of the restaurant which was nice.
Be the first to ReplyNot up to its reputation
Visited on recommendation and took family as a treat. Mediocre food and could produce better at home. Staff pleasant and obliging, but this floored us. It was our 50th anniversary, but we had said nothing to the restaurant, but one of our party unbeknown to us went up and told one of the waiters. Guess what... a portion of Tiramisu arrived with a candle stuck in the middle... okay but slushy... could not believe it when I paid the bill to find £9.50 on it for that mediocre pudding! Some restaurants really need to get their heads around client care and PR. Never in a million years would I have charged anyone for that 'treat'! Needless to say we will never go again until the food improves and it lives up to its 'supposed' reputation.

I visited the restaurant for a dinner. Unfortunately I found a long black hair in my plate and I decided to cancel my main course. It was disgusting!!! My starter (parpardelle with ragu’ di cinghiale) was decent but it wasn’t an authentic Italian pasta. The staff was busy and in a rush. I’ll never visit this restaurant again.

The best restaurant in the city! Lasagne is delicious! I love this place. The restaurant have a lot od special eat from Italy.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect professional service....
I haven't been for 15 years but after my lunch on Saturday the impossible to improve has improved. Same old classic Italian food, the garden has improved but the service, though never lacking, was on another level. Smart professional people serve invisibly with charm and aplomb without being over friendly. The balance was perfect. And the Bolly came out cold!

Very warm welcome, extremely well looked after and the food superb. Great atmosphere will definitely be returning already booked again for my daughter’s birthday. This restaurant has a lovely selection of dishes for all - we ranged from 6 - 70 years old! A great find.
Be the first to ReplyThink I will give 'La Famiglia' a miss for a while!
Don't get me wrong, we like 'La Famiglia' but last night didn't hit the spot. Be choosy about your table when you arrive, as initially we were given an inside table with no air flow and asked to move to one where, on a stifling night, at least you had some reprieve. Service initially was slow and we seemed to wait a long time before we could order wine. We went for the House White which wasn't cheap and memory fading from our last visit, wasn't particularly nice and far too warm. My daughter gave up on it and ordered red! Service from some waiters was surly and I felt the serving of the plates and filling of the wine glasses was anyhow. I asked for extra bread with my 'Melanzana' which never arrived. I always go for the 'Melanzana' but last night it wasn't good with cloying cheese and little evidence of Aubergine. It was also swimming in oil from the excess of grilled cheese. The Prawn and Bean salad was good. For main courses, we all opted for a pasta. They were OK, my Capellini with White Truffle Oil and black truffles was not memorable. My daughter visited the week before with some friends and was disappointed then too. The buzz and the overall ambiance of the restaurant is delightful and very Italian and the lighting is good. However, increased prices and what I felt were reduced portion sizes means that we will give 'La Famiglia' a miss for a while, particularly as including the delay in ordering some wine, we were in and out in an hour and £134 pounds poorer. That included a 13.5% service charge that wasn't deserved on last night's level of service (but it was easier to pay the 'discretionary' charge than try to get it deducted!).

It was a return to an old love. Bank Holiday in Chelsea and we got both sunshine in the court yard and the fly past ! Top service. Lovely summer menu. Heaven. We promise we won't leave it so long again to return.

Very disappointed. My mother’s 98th birthday and the over all food was very average with complaints from most of us, in fact the best part of the meal was the cake which I had bought in as this restaurant didn’t produce birthday cakes. Oh and by the way they charge £5 a head for that! I would not recommend this restaurant
Be the first to ReplyLost its charm and buzz
Still one of London’s go to places but seems to have lost its charm and class. Food was not its best, it was not very busy for a Thursday and everything seemed a little stale. Such a shame as it used to be one of London’s best Italian restaurants. I will give it another go but won’t be rushing back.
Be the first to ReplyFamily Lunch
An exceptional and uncompromising family run restaurant, the Maccioni family can trace their hospitality presence in London back to the 60 and hospitality have always been a significant part of their lives.
This is quintessential Tuscany, traditional in all the best senses with no whiff of modernity, its traditional practices rooted in time rather than fashion with outlook to the future by preserving the past.
Authentic good Italian meal
I go there on Sundays normally because it reminds me the meals I had in Italy at my habitual restaurants with family and friends. The environment is cozy and the food is authentically Italian. Good and trustworthy although a bit pricy.
Be the first to ReplyNothing to do with proper italian food
We went yesterday for a dinner with friends. From the pictures and the menu we were expecting one of those italian restaurants simple and more casual but with a good quality of food. Unfortunately we found anything but that. The place too much loud, the service was messy , too many different people looking after the table instead of having a dedicated waiter from the beginning
the more concern was the food, quality below average and clearly made for not italians or at least mot people know italian food … this is such a shame as this is not what as italians would like to see … not worth to try
Lovely traditional Italian Tuscan restaurant! Great place!
A lovely dinner in a traditional itialian setting, Tuscan menu and a good winelist. Lovely food and we had a great evening there!
The Negroni's were the best!!!!
You really need to visit La Famiglia.
Everything about this visit was unbelievably good. The food, service and good table spacing were of the highest standard. If you haven’t been to La Famiglia, or not recently visited, do yourself a favour and go!
Be the first to ReplySadly didn't match my expectationsgiven its reputation/reviews. Food/wine acceptable.Service unusually pompous for Italian resta
Disappointed- especially as this was our first visit and we had very much looked forward to dining here. The food was well cooked but the atmosphere/ service seemed stilted and tbh rushed
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere. Delicious food
Last night was our first visit to La Famiglia. I had the parmigiana to start and then the chicken with mustard sauce with chips. The food was really delicious and I can’t wait to return. The chicken was cooked to perfection - superb! And apparently Simon Cowell’s favourite dish too!
The atmosphere was really buzzy and busy with friends and families soaking up the vibe, enjoying themselves
Great experience - lovely evening
The best!
Food was delicious! Would recommend the spaghetti vongole! Staff were so attentive and friendly! Well priced and wine selection was great! Going to make it a regular thing!
