The greatest time and food
My husband and I celebrated my birthday here and had the best time. Frank was one of the best waiters we ever had! He made it so special, going above and beyond, joking around with us, and being so attentive. We truly enjoyed our time because of him, the food, and the beautiful atmosphere. It’s so historic and also has outstanding food!!! The prices are very reasonable as well. Such a gem.

4.5 without a doubt ! LaScala is a long standing perennial Beverly Hills favorite well known for their timeless chopped salad and homestyle pasta with rich traditional sauces. We have sat in the classic red booths over many a meal and always had excellent service but this evening it was taken to another wonderful level by our waiter Addison. Personable, knowledgeable, patient and smiling he consistently dropped in to see if all was right. Addison was the the icing on the cake at this Beauty Hills Canon Dr. staple and a wonderful addition to the menu. Robert G.

La Scala, once a favorite of Hollywood celebrities is part of film history. Today, it may only be a shadow of its former self but I felt I had to be there. After so many very bad reviews, my sojourn was a guarded one with expectation adjusted to a low point. First the area is very nice. There is an underground parking ramp across the street with a pedestrian crossing directly in front of the restaurant. The first two hours of parking are free. So I don’t get what is all the fuss about parking issues. There isn’t any. The restaurant now has a covered outside area with many tables. The inside is festive but also of old world charm. The hostess was courteous and friendly. Our waiter was outgoing and had completely complied with all our wishes. The drink order was quickly taken and delivered. We asked if we could share food and he said no problem and two plates were duly delivered. The bread was also promptly delivered. Because of its history, we stayed with the classic chopped salad with salami, lettuce and garbanzo. The very large chopped salad came soon after the bread. The linguini and clams came soon after the salad was finished. Timing was impeccable. The clam linguini was perfectly made with al dente noodles done just right. There were plenty of clams and the broth was perfectly seasoned and wonderfully garlicky. All was good and delivered to us with charm and professionalism. There was simply not a hint of service issues. We finished with two espressos, also well done and quite large. All was perfectly good. We were there for about 90 minutes, taking our time and well within the two hours of free parking.

Whenever I find a restaurant that has mozarella marinara, I want to try it. Arrived at 6pm for our reservation. Parking is difficult. We valeted at a restaurant next door as La Scala did not have their own. We began with the mozarella marinara and house salad. Both were very good. For dinner, I had the spaghetti checca and husband had the linguine and clams in a red sauce. They were very generous with the amount of clams. Service was very good! Will definitely come back.

Had dinner with two friends. First issue - our drinks. Not a complicated order that arrived after 30 minutes and our appetizers arrived and were eaten. Apologies were given (they lost the drink ticket) but the restaurant should have comped our drinks as this was their error. Then, when the check arrived, we asked that a certain amount be charged to my credit card, with the balance going on a second card. We were told that they could not do this. Only split the bill. I eat out a lot both domestic and international. I have never had a problem telling a server to charge a certain amount on one card and the balance on another. If one person as more to eat & drink, the bill is not going to be split. The food was good but not any better than the many Italian restaurants on Canon Drive in Beverly Hills. Due to their poor customer service, I will NOT eat at La Scala again!

I was served the worst, oversalted mussels I have ever eaten. I was not offered a replacement. We asked for the manager and were told there was none on the premises. I asked to see the Chef after he refused to replace the raspberry with chocolate syrup on the cheesecake we ordered, but he refused to come out. This is a sad shadow of the La Scala we have been frequenting over the years. Never again. Ponte Via is right next door.
Be the first to ReplyNice food, nice service, not wow!
We had a bad start with a hostess that was not very pleasant and not willing to help. We sat outside and it was hot, so we got the waiter to move us inside. From that moment on things changed and got much better. The service was nice, the food was not “amazing” but it was ok. You can feel the tradition and the “classic” of the place, not in a bad way. It was nice, not “wow”. The veal was good.

What a deeply disappointing experience. Service was unfriendly and resentful, food mediocre and bright white lighting from cost saver bulbs helped ensure an ambience of a hospital cafeteria. Not sure if the 1970s radio station piped across the restaurant or disdainful staff is what made this a joyless visit. Likely both. Save your money for a deserving LA eatery.
Be the first to Replyfood was good, staff was nice, decor fits
Staff was friendly and nice. Food was decent. Chopped salad appetizer is good. Decor is old world red Italian, with big booths on the walls and tables in the middle. Big menu of traditional Italian food, red sauce. No pizzas. They have chicken, veal, eggplant and pastas. Right off Rodeo drive and the shopping area.
Be the first to ReplyPick Up Dinner
My wife is addicted to the La Scala Chopped Salad. I'm not kidding when I say I've been picking one up 5 nights a week since March 2020. The guys that work there are super professional & friendly. They all know me by my first name (Marc) & make me feel welcome. I tip $5.00 on my togo order every night & they deserve it.I usually pick up something for myself but how many night in a row can you eat italian?? My wife says 5 nights in a row. In all these months I only had one run in with the mgr last week. I was trying my best to wait out of the way from all human contact while my order was being prepared but the mgr who thought I was a Postmates guy or ?? kept throwing me out without giving me the chance to explain that his guys told me to wait in the far corner away from everyone. I guess I was made to pay for them trying to have a New Years Eve party & the ensuing PR Fiasco. All I wanted was my wife's dinner. I'm still ordering but I avoid the mgr at at all cost. Be the first to ReplyLa Scala's reprehensible behavior is only matched by their callousness
My family has been dining at La Scala since it opened in the 60's. Several years ago,my father, who had been very ill and unable to leave his bed for 3 months, finally was strong enough to go out and really wanted to have lunch La Scala. Because La Scala had a well-known policy of not seating parties until all members were present, I called the night before, to explain my father's situation and ask if they would make an exception if my father was a little late. Because of his illness, he would not have had the strength to stand & wait for a table to open up. They refused. I arrived at 11:50 am the next day, before the lunch crowd arrived. All the booths were available except for one. I once again explained my father’s condition, the manager and Maitre D, still wouldn’t help us, even though I let them know that my Dad was 5 minutes away. They not only refused, but the Maitre D actually turned his back on me & walked away. Not wanting to tax my father’s tenuous health by having him stand and wait for a booth once he arrived , I left & walked down the street to Porta Via, who graciously and warmly seated us in a booth, although our party was incomplete. The servers did not mind waiting for my Dad to arrive and their warmth & sweetness made my father's 1st and, unfortunately, last meal out a special day to remember. Since then, we have enjoyed many delicious lunches and dinners and wonderful service at Porta Via. We’ve never gone back to La Scala and don’t miss it! It is not surprising that La Scala is once again behaving with callousness, and endangering the lives of people during a pandemic for their own greed.
