First Time
I was looking for somewhere to eat near Seven Dials. Never having eaten Burmese I thought I’d give Laphet a try. What a treat. I had the chicken noodle bowl. There are similarities with Thai cuisine, especially the use of spices and coconut milk. However it is less fierce, giving the spices a chance to shine. So fragrant and refreshing. For central London the price was quite decent and the dining room bright, clean, modern. Being very tall I wish I’d had a chair with a back, but that’s my only quibble.

We came on this by chance late afternoon, needing an early supper before catching a train. So a random choice, but a good one. Lovely food, great service, good atmosphere even at a quiet time. Will be back.

Wow, what a fabulous discovery this was. We stumbled across the restaurant at lunchtime wandering around Covent Garden. Absolutely delicious. We ordered the yellow pea paratha (fabulous), the black tiger prawn grilled skewer and the andaman ceviche. We also ordered the Lahpet Margarita which was one of the best I have ever had. Service was sketchy. One waiter was asleep but another fabulous and attentive. The food was outstanding. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyOne of our best meals in a long time
We were wandering around London on a busy Friday evening and happened to walk past Lahpet on our way to another restaurant, but the other place had a huge lineup. Disappointed, we walked back to Lahpet thinking we were settling for a lesser alternative, but quite the contrary, it turned out to be one of the most interesting culinary experiences we've had in a long time. The decor is lovely, although a bit generic which is why we were not that impressed when we first arrived. However, we were greeted by friendly staff and our server was very helpful in describing the dishes and helping us choose so we could have a good sample of Burmese cuisine. When the dishes were served, we were impressed by the presentation, and attention to detail. And then the flavours... WOW! Every bite was absolutely delicious, fresh, seasoned to perfection. The ginger salad (gin thoke) is a must. We especially enjoyed the bream filets, topped with the deep fried fish skeleton which you can eat like a crisp chip, so delicious!

Booked this because I was intrigued to taste Burmese cuisine. We came to the Covent Garden branch on a busy Saturday night. Both the food and service were excellent. I had the coconut chicken noodle bowl, my wife had 2 starters, a grilled aubergine and chicken skewer and our son had the hake masala. All in all the food was absolutely delicious. I cannot fault it. The combination of flavours is a fusion between Thai, Indian and Japanese. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food. Level of service depends on how busy it is
Have visited twice in a short Tim. Once Sunday afternoon and once on a Friday evening. What a difference. The food was the same good quality on both occasions but unfortunately the service wasn’t. Yes it was busy on the Friday night but there was enough staff milking around to deliver a better service than we did. It dampened the experience quite a lot. We didn’t seem to have a dedicated waiter for our table and when we’d finished with the starters the main dishes arrived but he failed to take away the empty dishes. Came with more mains and failed to take empty dishes again. Had to call him over to remove said empty dishes. Had also asked two different waiters for clean cutlery, as we had put it all together with the starter dishes and didn’t really feel like taking the used cutlery back just, so we could eat the mains. There was also a mix up with the bill but that was quickly sorted. It’s a lovely place with a nice buzz and great food but please don’t take your eye off the hall and get the basic service right.
Be the first to ReplyVibrant, different, invigorating
We fancied something different to a roast and so dined at a rather quiet Lahpet one Sunday afternoon. I am glad we did, for the food was inspired, full of fresh life and flavour. All starters — we ordered the lot — were gorgeous, though the ginger salad, as well as the tea leaf salad, were so vibrant and unlike anything I have tried before. The tea leaf salad had a particularly unusual flavour, savoury from shrimp paste in the background, and I found it just delicious. The various morsels (tofu, fried bean fritters and so on) served with astringent tamarind were lovely too. Mains, too, were super. I had the coconut chicken noodles, feeling a bit ashamed of myself for what seemed an obvious choice. Obvious perhaps, but I was glad of it when they were placed before me: what a pretty dish to look at (see photo) and full of flavour. I wasn’t drinking (for once) though my family assured me their cocktails were imaginative and imparted much pleasure. My fresh ginger tea was refreshing and came in an attractive pot. Service without was friendly and warm; the Turkish lady was happy to make recommendations and was clearly passionate about the food she was serving — this is always great. My only qualm (and I feel obliged to have one lest I sound too gushing) would be the bounty of fake plants throughout the premises. With such stylish food and staff these are beneath you, particularly as you’re round the corner from Columbia Road. I know live ones are pain, but you can’t serve tea leaf salads and then have fake hangers from IKEA (or wherever they’re from). Fix this small detail and the place is effortlessly cool and joy-giving.

Oh the ceviche!!! The turmeric sour!!!! The perfect coconut curry!!!! There aren't too many places of this quality in the parea (most of the neighbouring restaurants are pure tourist traps). Actually, your chances of finding an equivalent in a three-mile radius of Lahpet are minimal. Go there now!!!

Experience a wonder of taste and texture (you cannot visit without experiencing the tea leaf salad). A fairground for your taste buds. Natural and real flavours. One you must experience.

My first taste of Burmese cooking didn’t disappoint. I was invited to Lahpet by a friend who had travelled across Myanmar and wanted to see how authentic the food was in Covent Garden - it was good. Delicious salads, tasty curries and excellent fritters, and I was told that the balachaung was truly authentic! The atmosphere was lively and the cost for two very reasonable for the West End.

They’ve just opened another restaurant in West End, which we tried on the second day after the opening. It was a bit cold at the entrance but the lady tried to heat it up. The food was magical and she was very nice throughout our stay. All the best.
Be the first to ReplyReally nice food but we got food poisoning :(
We went here on a Thursday night after wanting to try this place for ages. We had the pickled ginger salad, the pickled tea leaf salad and then my partner had the chowder and I had the Shan noodles.
The salads were absolutely delicious and the highlight of the meal. We couldn't wait to come back. Unfortunately a few hours after the meal we both developed really severe stomach cramps which turned into full on food poisoning. It's really unfortunate because we would have loved to return but of course we won't be now.
Very good
Group of 6, went for dinner on a Thursday. Ordered various dishes to share. Loved the food, ambience and vibe. Place was packed.

Very tasty food with great textures. Tea leaf and ginger salads were the highlights. Service was pretty slow but still an excellent meal. Love the ambiance of the place too
Be the first to ReplyHighly recommended by a Burmese living in London!!
As a Burmese living in London, I regularly visit Lahpet whenever I yearn for Burmese food. And Lahpet never fails to satisfy my craving. I went to the newly open Covent garden branch last week and it was an amazing experience. The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff were fantastic and friendly! Starters (Fritters and grilled skewers) and desserts are the best. As a Burmese myself, I can tell you that you won't get better, more authentic Burmese food in London than Lahpet. A great addition to the West Wend dining scene.

I visited the new branch in Covent Garden. It's in a lovely location within St Martin's Courtyard. As it was the soft launch I'll be gentle. But the waitresses couldn't be bothered to welcome you or even ask if you wanted anything they were too busy talking amongst themselves. Several times I had to get up from my seat or shout across to get anything. The only excellent server was TATA or Spencer as he said he is also known as. Infact his service is the reason for the extra rating. He is Burmese and gave me his genuine recommendations. I started with the infamous tea salad which was lovely, it's a big portion for one but I'm a piggy so are it. I was really stuck with what to get for my main (this is when dining solo is hard! So TATA recommended the pork belly curry with rice. The curry itself was average nothing special at all. The rice was beautifully cooked, sounds strange but so many restaurants get rice wrong. The glutton in me had to try the cassava cake! For me this made my night it was divine and the Jack fruit sorbet was amazing..something I've never had before and of if anything I'd go back to lahpet just for that. Cocktails were good too..on the whole I was underwhelmed by the food, and it's very expensive for what it is. I'd rather spend that money elsewhere. Even for the soft opening it wasn't worth the money at all.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing, unique flavors
Must order the tea leaf salad. Burmese food is so unique delicious, start with the tea leaf salad and you won't be disappointed. Shared that and the slow cooked pork with coconut rice and one order of fritters with a friend - delicious!
Be the first to ReplyTasty new experience
First experience of Burmese food and was blown away ! Really good flavour noodles and exceptional tea salad and fritters. Would definitely highly recommended
Only one criticism was service seemed slightly rushed but don’t let this put you off
Lovely food and service
We haven't tried Burmese food before and we weren't disappointed! We were amazed by the way they used tofu. The fritters are lovely and crisp and the tarmind sauce was a great balance of sweet and sour. The tea salad had a variety of textures and tastes. I had the Mohinga which was warming and tasty. Others had Tofu Nway which they said was silky and very tasty. The Rhubarb and Lemon Thyme Spritz was refreshing and nice accompanient to the meal. Would definitely go there again.

If you haven't tried Burmese food (and let's face it, not many of us probably have!) then you've found the perfect place. In fact, forget the type of cuisine, Lahpet is just simply amazing. There is a very simple menu and I think this works well because everything on it is so tasty! You cannot go wrong with ordering anything from the menu. That includes the amazing cocktails as too! :)
Just like the food, the rest of the restaurant is great too. Service is super slick, atmosphere is loud and friendly and fun. Forget all the place at the Box Park - get yourself down to Lahpet!!
