Best restaurant I never ate at
I'm a lowly Uber driver who was working on his first night when I ended up driving the most exquisite woman I'd ever met. She was on her way to a date when a garish, flickering storefront display induced an epileptic seizure, demanding that I pull her from my vehicle and distract her with the UFOs flying overhead to restore her brainwaves. Fortunately, Sasha Baron Cohen happened to be passing by to assist. After some dancing at the street corner to reclaim her equilibrium, we stopped in at L'Antagoniste so that I could make it up to her that I had been such a terrible ride share driver to this point. What I was struck by in the ensuing hours tucked away at the booth was her passion -- she indulged me with her sincere love of music and the songwriting process. She uncovered the hidden fascinations and insightful nuances of the creative process, her experience in that realm, and her expectations for how it has and will continue to guide her existence. It would otherwise be easy to get lost in her exceptional beauty -- her beguiling eyes, her soft hair that partially masks her gorgeous face like teasing curtains, and the alluring outline of her sensual figure hidden beneath the wrapping of her dress -- if it weren't for the compelling words uttered by her adroit mind. Ingrid was none too pleased that, because I was so enraptured, I forgot to order us dinner before the kitchen closed. Fortunately, her suggestion to try the entire wine list was just one demonstration of her good humor and accommodating service. I didn't want the time with my ride share to end but Ingrid needed to go home, and I had to at least complete my first assignment. Thankfully my car was not up on blocks by the time we returned, so I was able to get my lovely first ride share to her destination, somewhere over/under the freeway.

Very promising restaurant but it was not what we expected. Entree was good (charcuterie platter). For the main course we took the steak. But it was not worth the 45$. Meat was overcooked. At the check, they charged an extra tax and service fee of 69$ (25%) and still requested a tip. Not worth a Michelin recommendationโฆ
Be the first to ReplyReally not worth the price
The Good: The staff was very friendly.
The Bad / Good: It wasn't particularly busy, and we waited 45mins to an hour for a starter. They acknowledged this (without us saying anything), with a free round of drinks.
The Bad: The food just wasn't good. Oysters were fine, but steep for a dozen ( around $35 I think). Mussels were Ok, really nothing special. Now the mains... Cordon Bleu... Dry, dry, dry. It looked like a sad old shoe sole. I'm French, and the irony is that a "cordon bleu" is sometimes used to describe someone who is a fine cook. This was really mediocre. The medium-rare NY Strip was ... meh. It WAS medium-rare, and I suppose it comes down to the quality of the piece of meat. Fries are just as good or better at 5 Guys or Shake Shack.
In this price range, you don't expect Michelin star food, but likewise, you don't expect canteen type food.
The cordon Bleu was somewhere between $24 and $27 I believe. The NY Strip was over $35. What we were served was really not acceptable for that kind of money.
I'd really love to support a local French place and spread the positive word, but this was lazy and passionless and... did I mention overpriced?
Some friends of mine were equally recently disappointed with the food quality. I won't return until I heard from someone that their game has been upped. An extensive and expensive wine list is no proof of a good restaurant. I'm sure you guys can do better.
High Quality Restaurant with Great Atmosphere
I came here with my father who does not live in New York, and he was really impressed with walking around the neighborhood and the meal we had at this restaurant. We both loved the food here and would definitely come back. I had a burger, and would recommend it. We sat out in the back patio area which was very nice. Great service, too.

The food was sublime. I had the duck and it does not get any better. The service five star! Highly recommend
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant and investing into the neighborhood
Have had great dinners there and it is by far the best french restaurant in the neighborhood. The owners are locals and very supportive and investing into the neighborhood. E.g. providing space for the Block Association
Be the first to ReplySuperb French Food in Brooklyn
Donโt be fooled by the out-of-the-way location: this neighborhood joint is as good as any Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris. Classic French dishes dominate the small menu, each lovingly prepared. The foie gras and steak tartare are the stars of the appetizer course, and the bรฉarnaise served with the petit filet is heavenly. As for desert, just order one of each and share with the table. Absolutely worth the trip.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Christmas lunch
All the reviews are correct. Perfect food, staff and wine. We had Christmas lunch there which is apparently not a local habit. Lucky us. People started to drtft in about 1330. A highlight of our NYC vault. Many thanks.

I came here on the recommendation of a local friend, and boy was it worth the journey deep into Brooklyn. The duck parmentier brunch dish was really tasty and filling, and the mimosas we had were perfect. Service was really friendly and attentive, and the price was very good.
