Lazy Bear San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
Little confused on this one to be honest.
Food was good but service seemed like the staff was new and trying really hard to figure it out. A lot of pine flavors and I mean A LOT OF PINE especially with the dessert courses. Will never give a restaurant a bad review because I understand how hard it is, but man this one was hard to accept a two Michelle Star for the complete experience. Maybe next time we come back we will experience a different result.
Absolute favorite restaurant in SF.
You'll leave full and happy. The drink pairing is phenomenal and the dishes are creative and yummy! I've been 4 times and can't wait to come back after their remodel. Thanks Lazy Bear and staff! Always a 10/10 experience.
I've been meaning to write this for a couple years.
I've been to LB three times for private dinners, and while the food was obviously incredible, I was super unimpressed with David Barzelay's attitude. We secured a New Year's Eve dinner reservation (my date spent a small fortune for this) and David addressed the audience and was telling us about his history and the restaurant in general. He promoted the audience for questions, so I raised my hand and said "it just occurred to me the restaurant is an anagram for your name". He said to me "yeah, no kidding, let's keep the questions relevant and about the food." That basically ruined the place for me. Was that really necessary? I've met plenty of Michelin chefs, including Huber Keller, Puck, Jamie Lauren, and Daniel Bouloud, and they couldn't have been kinder. So disappointing.
We come back the second time and sure lazy bear did not
We come back the second time and sure lazy bear did not disappoint us. Every dish was meticulously executed with presentation, taste, and aroma. The staff was very attentive to make sure you're taken care of. We were taken upstairs to enjoy the desserts and I thought that was a nice touch of change since the last time we were there. Lazy bear definitely deserves the 5 stars!! We can't wait to come back again soon
Exceptional food, great service, lovely place.
Knocking down 2 stars because: - dishonest fee tack on. Automatic tips (for small groups at least) should be part of the advertised price. Fees in SF are wildly out of control. - very expensive meal as-is. It was a nice experience, but you can get nearly comparable tasting menus for half the price. - pretty bad stomach ache next day from the dinner.
The food here is absolutely amazing.
Four stars because reservations are hard to get and the meals are very expensive. But it is truly a special event to go to this restaurant
Why is this place getting good reviews??? Mediocre service,
Why is this place getting good reviews??? Mediocre service, they cannot coordinate timing of food, can't keep the choices of drinks straight for the members of the party. They kept on making mistakes serving them. Very disorganized, inattentive wait staff. Chairs are uber uncomfortable. The drinks were unremarkable and the bartender seemed he was confused behind the bar. It was too cold and too loud in the dining hall and the communal table idea just doesn't work. And the bathroom was dirty and smelly for a Michelin star restaurant. But the worst of all was the food. Salty, flavors were unbalanced and simply bad. How has this place kept its 2 Michelin stars for missing EVERYTHING? It was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had for so much money we spent. Horrible.
This is a must-try place.
Incredible food/presentation, great ambiance and an experience never to be forgotten. Service was top notch and Chef David himself came over and spoke with us about a few dishes. I'd visit just for his vibes - super happy, kind, down to earth & highly knowledgeable. Do yourself a favor and make it a point to visit here- it's well worth every penny.
I made reservations for Lazy Bear immediately when they
I made reservations for Lazy Bear immediately when they opened up every month on the 15th and I highly recommend you to do so if you intend on dining here. The reservations fill up fast and it's first come first serve, and for 2 good reasons also: previously 2 Michelin stars. Impeccable service: we got there early they sat us prematurely. Description on food, attention to detail, and ensuring we were having a great time! I can't explain it any further. The wait staff here is the gold standard. The decorations of the space was super cute as well. It's called lazy bear so its decor was after the California cabin life with bears. The food was AMAZING. It was a 10 course meal that included an egg dish, fish, lamb, etc. I've heard it changes often but it's carefully well thought out and very considerate of their menu. Overall, we both enjoyed our dinner here at lazy bear. Come for the impeccable service, great vibes, and the food that has Michelin star critics raving about.
Amazing service, experience, delicious food and wine
Amazing service, experience, delicious food and wine pairing was divine! The family style tables and decor were also amazing
I was so excited to visit this restaurant because of its
I was so excited to visit this restaurant because of its Michelin status. Unfortunately, it was a less than enjoyable experience to Lazy Bear. The restaurant was freezing when we got there and we were seated right under a giant fan. When we inquired to turn the fan off they mentioned there was construction and they are fanning out the paint to dry. First off, I don't want that chemical smell during my experience, but I understand last minute things happen (I hope it wasn't planned construction). I then requested to move tables so we were not sitting right in front of the gust. The staff member became annoyed and said there was no where else to sit when I saw a few other spots available at other ends of the restaurant. I had to spend the next two hours under the blowing fan waving my hair around and wearing my bulky coat. Every time food came out, it became cold by the time the server had a chance to explain the dish. I mentioned to another server and they brushed it off. I understand things happen, but for a Michelin star restaurant and the high prices I would expect way better. It was honestly a disaster of a meal. The egg starter and snow dessert were delicious which is why I gave two stars, but I'm honestly very disappointed that no one cared about our discomfort in the entire experience.
Such a great overall experience! I've waited to come here
Such a great overall experience! I've waited to come here for 2 years and finally gotten a reservation on a Tuesday night! The staff here are all so sweet and professional from the start to the end. I was so impressed with the first course and most of the course was very well executed but the most important part was the dessert was really good and it ended on a high note, unlike a lot of fine dining places! I really enjoyed the bread and the 11 year butter, but surprisingly I enjoyed the broccoli fondue that was the course after the bread. I ate the bread and the fondue together and it was out of this world! 10/10 experience and food!!!
We were able to dine at Lazy Bear on our last trip to SF.
Overall, it was a very pleasant experience but I wish there was more of a wow factor with the food. Overall a 4.5 stars experience for me... not quite 5 stars. Dont get me wrong, the food was good. But for the price & it being a 2 michelin star restaurant I expected just a little more... Service was excellent from the whole staff. I also liked the ambiance. It wasn't pretentious like some high end restaurants. The vibe was welcoming and warm which was refreshing. I would go back if in SF again.
- our tea got spilled.
Twice. - didn't get our wine pairing for the first two courses and the waiter offered to "catch us up". That is not how pairings work. - half of the staff looked like they were on drugs. - food was ok, and it was nice to see the kitchen and chefs. - every dish had ingredients that were "foraged", including the almond flour they got from someone who was bankrupt (according to the waiter)
Food was excellent as expected.
Well executed with really creative flavors and combinations. Deducting 1 star for service and the drink program. Service downstairs was excellent. Service upstairs with the dessert is best described as snarky and rushed. I really did not appreciate the server's comments when I ordered a second espresso with my second dessert. Maybe he was trying to be funny and personable, but it came across as condescending and snarky. Regarding the drinks program, I would have appreciated being told that there was a non alcoholic drink paring available as I have been cutting back on my alcohol consumption. I ordered wine by the glass and the sommelier choose the wines and didn't offer to bring a wine list. The first glass was a $35 3 oz pour of a $70 retail central coast chardonnay. I would be OK with that if the pour were larger or the wine wasn't readily available in local stores (which it is). It was also a disappointing match with the first courses. The second glass was a $65 3 oz pour of a $120 retail wine. This was a perfect match with the dish (broccoli fondue) and an excellent wine, although I wish the pour was larger. I guess the lesson is to get the wine pairing, don't order by the glass. Wine pairings are usually more alcohol than I want but given the size of the pours, it would have been OK here.
Awesome experience and definitely worth the money.
We did the Valentine's menu and I got the wine pairing and my wife got the non-alcoholic pairing. The food was all very tasty and interesting with a wide range of flavors and (mostly local) ingredients. There were quite a few throwback/comfort food type things that were very elevated (the broccoli fondue was the fanciest potato/broccoli/cheese soup I've ever had!) and then some were just decadent and fancy/avant-garde. The pours in my wine pairing were a bit small, but I got 6 very different wines that paired nicely with the courses. The non-alcoholic drinks were super unique with lots of sodas and juices and fresh ingredients being combined to create some very weirdly awesome drinks. The amount of food was pretty perfect as we were both quite full, but not in pain, at the end. Plus they sent us home with some really tasty cold brew coffee, cake, and truffles which made an excellent breakfast the next day.
Absolutely outstanding restaurant.
My husband and I are foodies and have been to many highly rated restaurants and those with Michelin stars and this is the best by far. Every dish well thought out and composed and beautiful. The service was stellar as well. We will definitely be back!
Amazing presentation, Kat and Paul were great and
Amazing presentation, Kat and Paul were great and definitely gave amazing service. Food was delicious, and having a dessert pairing was a fun experience. Can't wait to go back
This place is communal but came with large group so we took
This place is communal but came with large group so we took up most of the table. We started off with the foraged tea made of herbs and plants that was collected around San Francisco! It was a cool concept and the taste definitely very interesting - earthy... All the mains we had were great! Loved the seafood tower, grilled chanterelles and lamb chop in particular. The last two were grilled and seasoned lightly but so delicious. After your main, they direct you upstairs to the loft to enjoy some desserts. This was the only part that I didn't really like too much. There were three courses starting with an ice dessert. It was kind of just lacking in flavor. The orange sorbet was good. The petit fours after just had really interesting flavors, some a little bitter? Not sure
My partner and I went to Lazy Bear for our second year
My partner and I went to Lazy Bear for our second year anniversary. The moment we came in, we were greeted by the host. She promptly took us to our seats, which was right next to the kitchen. She also brought a stool to put my purse on, which I thought was kind of ridiculous but also appreciated the care & thoughtfulness of it. Our servers explained every dish that we were served that evening and answered our questions thoughtfully. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and helpful in giving us great beverage recommendations. I was also very impressed with the care they took to accommodate my partners dietary restrictions. My favorite part of the evening was when we were taken upstairs to enjoy our dessert. We were seated in our very own corner, which was pretty secluded from the other guests. It also had a great view of the downstairs dining area. We enjoyed our evening at Lazy Bear. Staff was great and the food was amazing!
Not what they were
Third, and last, visit. They are just coasting with little passion or innovation. Servers rushed with scripted descriptions and limited interactions. Flat champagne, replaced on request. Mediocre pairings especially reserve. Den dessert overloaded with sweet wines and two way too sweet desserts. Fading glory.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.

This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
