Le Du Khet Bang Rak Reviews from The Last Year
Avoid at all costs
We had an emergency which did not allow us to physically attend the reservation and was charged 15,000 THB (415 USD) for nothing. Mind you this is MORE than what the meal for 3 people would have cost. They justified it by saying it was to make up for “lost revenue” and “ingredients”. Loss making business if your ingredient cost is MORE than what the meal would have cost? Avoid this place at all cost, daylight robbery
a Michelin star
Amazing. 6-course food and wine pairing menu. From surprise to surprise, the best thing is to go there. The tastes, presentations, high-level service and exposed kitchens make this address a safe bet in Bangkok.
The soup is delicious with the aroma of Thai spices.
My wife and I came here with high expectations, as this is a Michelin-starred restaurant ranked #1 in Asia's top 50. It's quietly located off the main road, on a side street. We ordered the course with the signature river shrimp dish and wine pairing. I was well aware that it was a busy restaurant, but the server's assembly-line explanation of the dishes was amazing in a way. He just kept talking in fast-paced English, and didn't seem to care if we were getting it right. On the contrary, it would have been better if he had just left it with a smile without explaining anything lol. As for the taste, we started with a delicious amuse-bouche, and then moved on to soup, fish, and meat. Everything was good, but the fish dish was a bit fishy for us... Each sauce was very delicious, so perhaps the fish was prepared, but the smell of the fish stood out, which was a shame. But the soup with Thai spices and strawberries! It was exquisite! It was an impressive dish that made me want to try it again! Overall, I'd give it 4 stars, but if you take the service into account, it'd be 3.5 lol. It was a good experience, and my wife was pleased. Thank you for the meal.
Does not hit the mark compared to other Michelin Star tasting menus! Very rushed no time to enjoy!
I was recommended to try Le Du as an amazing restaurant in Bangkok. Having enjoyed many European Michelin star tasting menus I was excited to see if the awards were truly a difference. Unfortunately they were not. We found Le Du, not sure if they were having work done to expand but wooden boarding around. Nice greeting but realised immediately a lack of atmosphere or ambience. Upon seating it felt like the race had begun…how quickly could they get through the courses to get us out! The red snapper was nice, pork ok, we ordered the signature prawn dish - biggest disappointment of the night for us and nothing special. Wagyu was tasty and after the next 2 courses done and dusted. Paid for what we felt was hugely disappointing.
This can’t be Asia’s best. Overall- place, staff, atmosphere, food, open kitchen on show case… all lacks finesse.
The place: Tables are placed very close to each other. You make a reservation, then you can walk in and pick a seat of your choice. No pre allocation. I see a man walk in in shorts, and he can just pick a table for 4 all for himself. It’s like a cafe. Toilet: male toilet- urinal in your face when you sit on the toilet seat. Cafe toilet. Quite disgusting. Michelin accolades placed in open shelf out side the toilet as if it doesn’t matter. Covered with finger prints. Loud retro pop cafe music. Food: Food is ok, but it’s really nothing special. River prawn feels under cook but staff brushed us off to say that how it should be. Petit 4 with market fruits. Staff: Open counter and preparation. I wanted to take a pic, but when I see the mess of super market plastic containers and staff preparing food. Not worth a pic. Open kitchen, again I’d rather they not be a showcase on display if you know what I mean. Overall, while it’s ok. I simply cannot believe this is Asias best. I’ve been to many that are so so much better than this. This place overall- lacks the finesse of a Michelin star and can’t be Asia’s best.
Choose another restaurant instead.
Very disappointing considering it is rated the best restaurant in Asia. - Very pricy for Asia - Food was good but nothing spectacular. Some ingredients didn’t go well together, there were not much complexity on the execution and taste of most of the dishes - tables very close together and environment looks more like a cafe - staff was nice but not super professional - fruits at the end of the menu made absolutely no sense to me Overhyped and overpriced definitely not worth it!
Creative with hints of Thai Flavour
Our first visit in Bkk was 2019 and dine @ Gaggan original location .. now 2024 we are back and we tried Le Du With Gaggan he re-creates and represents Indian food in his own imaginative way. At Le Du the food is delicious & beautiful layered with a lot of ingredients and you will get that hit of Thai flavours in some dishes Of course Gaggan price is a few thousand baht more than Le Du but it does come with more dishes…for us the 6 course tasting menu with the added river prawn speciality and bottle of wine at Le Du was enough to make us full The service staff was friendly and attentive but could use further refinement. Things like when they are pouring wine occasionally they will drip a bit onto the table cloth. There was even once while I was drinking my red wine the waitress while clearing the plate somehow hit the bottom of my glass while I was sipping the wine…. No big issues but you do notice it Dining here definitely added enjoyment to our 2nd BKK trip… don’t over hype any restaurant in your brain or you will be disappointed
The best, and lived up to its billing
It is so very rare that I give a restaurant 5 stars! But as the current Best Restaurant in Asia, and #15 in the world, the best thing I can say is that it didn’t disappoint. We loved everything about it: it’s relaxed and informal, it’s busy, it has a darned good wine list at not crazy prices, the food is imaginative & superbly executed, and service is faultless. I’ve seen reviews of the ‘underwhelmed’ kind and I do get that. If you want the latest molecular gastronomy try somewhere like the Mandarin Oriental in Tokyo. There’s nothing here designed to wow, shock or impress. It’s all designed to be a hugely enjoyable eating experience. What’s wrong with that?
Wonderful food , horrible guests
For the food and the staff i would have given 5*, but the atmosphere was at the end really horrible. While i was still enjoying my courses there were people standing around , making fotos of them self or the restaurant, keeping going in and out, sitting with their mobiles on different free tables and now one said anything. That was really totally disrespectful to the hard work of the kitchen and the staff. I was in the mood to throw them out on my own. But…in only spoiled my evening in the end. I do not understand the restaurants policy and I assure you that i ate in dozens of Michelin starred restaurant in Europe and Asia. Please change your policy towards ignorant and disrespectful customers . Maybe i come back. Sincerely yours Dr georg schwarzkopf / south-west germany ( near the No.1 restaurant of the whole world in his moment)
Interesting, unique, delicious
The curse of Le Du's rewards is the heightened expectations, and we had some trepidation. Happily, it was a great evening. We took the extended set menu, which also came with multiple other mini-courses and pre-desserts and bits and pieces. There were no dud courses. Surprising combinations- squid and strawberry!- worked. These combinations ran through the menu, not in an obnoxious way, but in a perfectly calibrated sequence. A real highlight were the two fish dishes- snapper and grouper- with the savoury sorbet served with the snapper unusual and delicious. Some of the 'food court' comments in other reviews around the restaurant's decor seem to be a bit out of sync with trends in fine dining, or are perhaps indicative of particular cultural expectations. This sort of 'relaxed chic casual' decor is a million miles from 'food court'. All the stone does make the room slightly noisy, but certainly not unbearable. Some tables may get the brunt of the airconditioning.

Is this an appointment for a leather appointment at the Hermes Store? And if so, how do they switch the appointment to my name?
