Left Bank Melbourne Restaurant & Cocktail Bar Southbank Reviews from The Last Year
VERY DISAPPOINTING......
We were very disappointed with this venue. After ordering our meals using the QR code first of 26 people at our daughters 40th birthday, we noticed that our meals still hadn't come out an hour later. When we questioned the waitress, we were told that we must of entered it wrong (even though we had a confirmation) & the kitched had closed. After further pushing the point, she reluctantly took a manual order which came out like a slapped together dish of pizza leftovers. I know presentaion isn't everything, but it had a taste to match the presentation. No apology from the staff or the waitress who kept making excuses & placing the blame on us when we even queried that the price of our grandson's meal had already been deducted from our card, so they must of had the order. Do yourself a favour & give this place a WIDE berth.
Unhappy with quality of drinks and food for bottomless brunch
We went for a 2 hour bottomless brunch the drinks had so much syrup, cordial. Whatever you wanna call it every cocktail was disgusting. The calamari was soggy and smelt really fishy pizza was ok but the pizza base was hard as a rock and the gnocchi cheese tasted like tomatoes the whole thing was wrong the only bright light was Andrew our waiter he did his best to make sure we had an enjoyable two hours, even though the drinking food were disgusting. And the premises was so hot
This restaurant is located along the Yarra River.
The energy is so high here. We came on a Saturday night. They had a DJ spinning some awesome tunes. You couldn't help, but dance in your seats. Our seating was at 5pm and I couldn't believe the energy level in this place at that time of the night. Cocktails are definitely the way to go here. Apparently they have some sessions where you can get bottomless beverages for a price. We saw carafes of beverages being replenished at tables all the time. Don't expect menus or a dedicated server at this restaurant. The table had a QR code in which to place orders. If you have questions you can flag down a member of the staff, but you're pretty much on your own. We got a variety of dishes to share: The crudo Gunpowder cauliflower popcorn Smoked mussels Wagyu sliders The mussels were my favorite dish. It was a good portion and the lemongrass flavors were delicious. The gunpowder cauliflower was not spicy. It was nice and crispy, but the cauliflower remained soft inside. The crudo was great too, nice and delicate. We went back on another night and had all three desserts. My favorite was the chocolate raspberry cake. It's delicious. The table also loved the pistachio cheesecake.
Disappointing
Not a great dining experience - the QR code ordering system is a total nightmare. Takes far too long to set up and order. As we were using 2 different QR accounts on the same table, the food came at different times and one couple had finished their mains before the other mains arrived. Also the music is so loud you can't hold a conversation. Positives - food was good and great location.
Chic Riverside Dining Without the Human Element This
Chic Riverside Dining Without the Human Element This review is about the ordering process only as we never got to eat or drink anything. I'll assume the food is prepared with ruthless efficiency by robots and is adequate. The one person I saw working in the restaurant seated us graciously and promptly and told us to scan the QR code on the table to order. I'd rather not use my phone to browse a menu, but whatever. I find a yummy sounding Tropic Thunder on the drink menu and order one only to realize that I'm paying double because I didn't select it from the Happy Hour menu. I can't figure out how to remove it. Eventually I make my way to the "Order and Payment" page and there at last is a delete button. There is nothing intuitive about this interface. My wife is also struggling so we agree that I'll do all the ordering on my phone. I put in two Tropic Thunders and one appetizer. My order is rejected because "invalid phone number". I'm using an android phone with Google Pay how many different ways do you need my number? I find the phone number box and enter it. "Invalid". I add a country code. "Invalid". After hunting I find a tiny 3x4 pixel icon that provides a drop-down menu for country. Now my phone number is accepted, but the order is rejected because I ordered two of the same item. No way to override. No warning when I added the second cocktail. At this point it is fifteen minutes later and our patience is expended. We leave to go to a lovely Italian restaurant with paper menus and real human servers. It was only later that I realized there was no way to order a drink that was not on the menu. What if I just wanted a simple rum and coke or gin and tonic? I didn't see any way to do that. These QR code ordering systems must die.
LOUD music
I’ve eaten here before & the food is amazing but the loud, head-butting music is seriously bad. You can’t hear yourself think let alone have a conversation 😡
Lunch
After strolling along the Southbank of the river Yarra, we stopped here for lunch. Shown straight to a table as the inside was not very busy. Head waiter and staff were very helpful, but we struggled with the on-line ordering. A waiter did help, but it would have been simpler to have just taken our order manually. The food was not quick coming, but it was certainly very enjoyable.
What a disappointment
Ate here with my family on Christmas Day. Reserved at 7pm. Not much is open on Christmas Day and I found the Left Bank restaurant via Google. Upon arrival we stand in line to get in. They work with time slots so we reserved a table from 7-9:15 pm… just like all the rest of the people in line. Upon entering you immediately get the feeling of a 'food barn'. Tables are close together and acoustics are poor. We order a bottle of rosé and 3 cokes. We have to wait almost 30 minutes for this. The food also takes a long time and when the burgers arrive the food is not really warm. A special detail is that all sea food and desserts are sold out. All in all a very bad experience.
Horrible!
SAVE YOUR MONEY and EAT ELSEWHERE! You have to order and pay via QR code straight up, so many things on the menu say “OUT OF STOCK” we ordered quite a bit of food. Firstly the drinks came out including bottled water with 1 glass! Why would you bring just 1 glass to a table of two? The $39 Salami meat platter thing was dry not good. They then rushed out the mains (which they call LARGE but the servings are small) saying the kitchen was closing (yet they were still taking more people in to sit down and order their meals? The staff member who greeted us at the start saying she will be looking after us we actually didn’t see her after that LOL she was around but just non attentive (YET they ask for TIPS prior on order via QR and payment before you even get you food/drinks) WORST of all I believe the main meal salmon FISH I ordered was BAD once I returned home my stomach was not good and all today.
Overpriced casual dining. NOT a fine dining restaurant
Took my daughter here for her birthday. Was supposed to be a nice night out. Was so let down by the incredible lack of service and care. Had to ask for table water. Had to use a QR system that is completely flawed or told to go to the bar to order our own drinks. What a joke! Sad really, because the food was excellent.
Great food but horrendous service!
When we arrived at the restaurant, we were immediately struck by the atmosphere, and we hoped for a pleasant dining experience. However, we were seated somewhat informally, akin to a cafeteria setting, and to our surprise, there was no physical menu. Instead, we were asked to use an QR code for ordering, which raised some concerns. Unfortunately, we encountered challenges in trying to get the waitstaff's attention. They seemed disinterested and had no idea about the menu, making the ordering process needlessly complicated. The real low point was the rude, passive-aggressive, and condescending attitude displayed by the middle-aged bald man who seemed to be the manager. He, too, had no idea about the menu and provided no help. This lack of knowledge and unhelpful behavior left us feeling frustrated. Although the food, prepared by the chefs, was exceptional and truly a highlight of our experience, the overall service and the ordering process left much to be desired. It's disheartening that such a talented kitchen team was let down by mismanagement and unhelpful staff. In conclusion, while the culinary aspect of our visit was outstanding, it's evident that this restaurant heavily relies on being in a tourist hotspot. If it were not for its location, it might struggle to survive due to the poor service and management issues. It's our hope that the establishment can address these issues to provide a more enjoyable dining experience in the future.
Brilliant Melbourne Cup Day lunch!
This was the third time we have been to Left Bank for Melbourne Cup Day lunch and it certainly didn't disappoint! These guys know how to run a function. Food was beautiful, drinks were flowing and the atmosphere was fantastic! The restaurant was beautifully decorated, the patrons were dressed up and the staff were having fun too! I was really surprised to read the negative reviews but I highly recommend Left Bank for events.
Beware QR Code is dodgey
Food good, waitress lovely, location perfect the real let down came when we left the premises and was chased down, accused of not paying and asked to return to the restaurant manager interrogated us. Turns out there’s some major problems with the QR Code system they insisted we use. We did pay but it didn’t register their end. Spoilt what should’ve been a lovely catch up with interstate friends. Very embarrassing. Also the fake flowers are a bit tacky

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
