As I drove up, I was unsure of parking and which building to go to! After I was pointed to the correct destination I found the ambiance to be quaint and inviting with a nice hint of sophistication. A semi-open kitchen with a trendy bar area invited me to relax and enjoy the evening on Lenoirs terms. I'm a former chef, however when I order beverages, I prefer to tell the staff my interests and let them suggest my vino(s) of the night. My waiter proved to be worth his salt as my 'pearl snap' which was perfect. I'm not a fan of IPAs so this suited my palate. As for the wine, I opted for the matthieu barret from Rhone. I told the waiter I prefer French wines, especially being at a French restaurant and this beverage didn't disappoint. It was a light bodied wine with a great bouquet that kept me guessing what flavors were prominent. The Syrah/Shiraz seemed to have hints of oak and cherries while other flavors I couldn't pick out but in a fun way.Our evening started with the "crab fingers". The crab was cooked perfectly however I there wasn't much meat on them and picking at the claw proved tedious and the chili oil was a bit hot. That said the curry leafe leche was a true delight. We also opted for the tuna tartare which was fresh but the salsa macha again seemed to be aped up on heat. More on the heat aspects later. As for dinner my date and I both opted for the oxtail tagliatelle. Again, heat was the star of the dish. I then asked the waiter why every dish had such a heat signature and they said it's fusion to the local vibe. To me I can't take heat so it brings the occasion down. That said, there's a true skill in the dish as the oxtail was cooked to perfection. Tender and flavorful while the kale provided a nice flavor contract being sharp to cut the fat from the oxtail. The pasta was al dente and married well with the sauce. Besides the heat, this dish was outstanding! The waiter suggested a desert wine of Malvasia-trebbiano. I wasn't a fan but my date loved it. Also it paired wonderfully with the coffee semifreddo. This desert was classy, filling, not to sweet and a wonderful capper to the evening. All said, I really enjoyed my experience at Lenoirs and I suggest this establishment to anyone that wants to add flair to a first date while not being pretentious. The food is skillfully crafted, the wait staff knows their restaurant and the ambiance is romantic. An inviting experience not to be missed.
