Ostentatious with pitiful food.....
We, all seven of us, visited Li Jiang last night to celebrate a family member's accomplishments, expecting a memorable "Ritz Carlton fine dining" experience, and were thoroughly disappointed. The whole experience was lackluster! It was by no means a fine dining experience, and fell way short of the expected Ritz standards! It felt like a dystopian cacophony! Taking writing negative reviews extremely seriously, nonetheless at times 'a spades really needs to called as such' in the spirit of positive criticism. Now to the details...... Making the reservation was seamless, and professionally done. We reserved a table at late notice and in retrospect it was clear how we were accommodated, given we had a near empty restaurant all to ourselves. The welcome was professional, and all the staff members overall were decent throughout the evening. We were seated right next to the open kitchen, which while visually appealing, added a bit of unwanted noise. The music playing in the background was out of place, and added to the 'noise.' It felt like we were sitting in a bar! In the tradition of welcoming the guests to the restaurant, the Japanese Oshibori towels were offered, albeit cold. It would have been nice to have warm/hot towels to clean hands, and especially following the tradition as such given the winter months. We were recommended to try the mixed Dim Sum Platters, which we did. Needless to say, the dim sum was inconsistent. The first basket came at a barely warm temperature, and not with the variety we had ordered. It is a reflection of something at a Chinese restaurant, that too a fine dining one, if the dim sum does not come out steamy hot! (may be the evening had been overtly busy, or this was just an accidental slip) This was bettered in the next basket, where the dim sum came out hot and steamy, and the house sent three extra pieces for the mess up in the first basket, which was a nice gesture and welcome! The good part first--the shrimp Har gow was good and above average. The accompaniments so so... The chicken Siu Mai was just average, pasty, and lacking flavor. Vegetable dim sum had a mushroom based paste with what felt like partly cooked/softened Peas that felt unpleasant textually. The Dim Sum is certainly not worth the almost $4 plus per piece, and especially in comparison to the quality of Dim Sum to the comparitors. (the Supreme Dim Sum at a competitor restaurant locally is almost for the same price with Har gau, and more decadent ingredients like wagu beef, Chilean seabass, abalone, black garlic etc, completely in a league of it's own in appearance, taste, and texture!) On to the main couses-- we went with all chicken dishes as my parents don't eat beef, and are not fans of shellfish. (may be the restaurant does better on these dishes). The one dish that was decent was the chicken kung pao. I guess it is challenging to get this "bread and butter" chinese restaurant dish wrong! On a finer point, the oyster sauce was not cooked through, and some of the chicken thigh pieces did not have the fat rendered through, and that bite into the fat was off putting. The Kung Pao was the only punchy thing all evening, but certainly still average. The dish again was not served at the desired temperature of something coming freshly cooked out of a wok! I think the restaurant served all of us complimentary juices, ( we certainly did not order, and while paying the bill at the end I did not bother look at the details), and if so, this gesture was commendable. Thank you. Now for the not so good stuff....... The Chicken fried rice had to be one of the most sorry fried rice plates I have had all around the world. This dish for all intents and purposes was "dead on arrival." And to experience the taste and texture on two ordered plates was doubly painful! When the fried rice lacks the "wok hei" (the breath of the wok) fragrance, it sure disappoints. The rice grains in a good fried rice need to be individual and cooked to the right texture, and not be like what it was at Li Jiang---a pasty, oily, scrambled egg covered couscous like concoction with off tasting and looking tiny pieces of chicken! And again, it did not come steaming hot, but just warm! While personal taste is subjective, there are certain expectations when seeking a good fried rice. This disappointed on all fronts. Maybe if an investment is made in a good quality aged Thai rice or Jasmine rice(that does not break up to bits when wok fried) , and the right proportion of seasonings (lacked the fish sauce taste, barely had any textural component like the scallion) and oils are used, it would expectedly be better. The Chicken chow mein was just okay. It was more towards the Hong Kong style chow mein or a gai see chow meen, using thin egg noodles. What was clear was that there wasn't enough chicken or vegetables on the plate, and the noodles overtook the plate. Again, it did not come out steaming hot! (must be getting the theme....) The proportion was also on the small side! And it was interesting how this, and most dishes were garnished with fresh coriander sprigs... The sweet and sour chicken was just abyssmal, and I am sorry to say this---a street vendor anywhere in the world will make a more flavorful "chicken ball concoction" than what was served. The nutmeg sized chicken balls, which were mostly a pasty flour and cornstarch mix, were cold to the core, flavorless, and just not right. They were not worth paying a penny for, and the best bite on that plate was the pineapple slices. Even the sweet bell peppers seemed to be an afterthought and were just raw! This dish should not be on any menu anywhere as served. And whatever remote taste of chicken there was, it was forgettable! We ordered the red Thai curry on the waiter's recommendation. A red Thai curry when done right should be a complex symphony of flavors and should make the mouth sing. The lovely flavors of finely ground coriander, peppercorns, Kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, galangal, lime leaves, cilantro, of sautéed shallots/onions, garlic, fresh chillies, and the silky smooth richness of the coconut milk should shine. The permeation of the curry flavors in the sautéed chicken should be deep and unmistakable. This red Thai curry was missing all of it! Most abhorrhingly, it tasted like boiled chicken things with still pieces of fat hanging were just put in the curry.! Disappointing! Need I say more! I lament that Li Jiang did not get the basic dishes right, and am frankly left wondering how it has gone up in rankings with some rave reviews. It feels surreal, and almost as if we were at a completely different restaurant. Clearly, in my opinion, Li Jiang is not in the same league as the top four or five restaurants, all of which we have been to and tried, but a hollow echo of them, and disappointingly so! What I am sure of, and based on feedback from the other six family members who ate, Li Jiang felt soulless, grossly overpriced (but expected being at the Ritz Carlton), with frankly mediocre food. I would have given this two stars(for most dishes being off note, off temperature, off flavor, off fragrance, off price and proportion), but my family members asked me to be generous. And what was particularly disappointimg was that we were supposed to have dinner in Dubai, and changed cuisines and restaurants based on a recommendation, and drove all the way back from Dubai to be disappointed at the Ritz Carlton!!! (I gave some of the above feedback to the serving staff on site after paying the bill. Maybe it was just an off night for the restaurant, and not a fair reflection of their capabilities. Unfortunately I have reviewed honestly based purely on our experience, as I did not see us going to Li Jiang again)
Delicious food and fantastic service
My family and I recently went to have dinner in Li Jiang and we had an amazing time. The food was delicious and the team was very friendly and professional. Special shout-out to Vishnu, Rajtka, Saw and the chefs! They made us feel very welcome and pampered.
Very enjoyable
Visited during our stay at the Ritz Carlton hotel. Sadly the terrace was closed for weather reasons but we had a nice inside table with views of the open kitchen which looked a very slick operation. Service was very friendly and well paced. Food was a bit mixed - We thought the main courses (wrapped Seabass & vegetable Thai pad noodles) were outstanding but the starters (spring rolls & duck gyoza) were fairly average - hence our 4 rating. Overall we enjoyed our evening and would visit again.
Relaxed family dinner
Great for relax atmosphere with family you have ur privacy and casual atmosphere. The sushi was amazing and Tom yam soup and the pad Thai. Overall amazing quality and experience
Superb food & service
Superb restaurant we had the pleasure of visiting over the Christmas period. Wonderful food, experience & service from our host Putu. We will definitely be back.
Chinese in Abu Dhabi
Great food, service and view of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Caitlin and the staff were so hospitable and polite
Li Liang for fantastic Asian Food
Li Jiang is a great Asian restaurant at the Ritz Carlton in Abu Dhabi. We ate there on 2 consecutive nights (once was simply not enough) and everything was first class. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. All the staff members were very helpful and polite but a special thank you goes to Putu, who chatted to us on a more social level when we showed interest. She made the experience just that bit more personal (like she was really pleased to see us) and was very natural in her approach. Never pushy or intrusive just friendly but keeping it professional too. Probably some of the best Asian food we’ve ever had, with lots of choices even on the half board menu. There were enough different dishes for us to go back again and again but sadly we had to go home!
Pleasant place for family dinner
We had our wonderful birthday dinner with 2 kids in Li Jiang. The staffs were very kind to my children and offered us a birthday song and lovely cakes as well. Thanks again !
Exquisite, the best experience I’ve had at a restaurant
We came with family to Li Jiang and it was amazing! The hostess gave us amazing table on terrace and the stuff was very attentive, the best service!

Thank you for the question, if a seller is working on answering your bid, you cannot cancel it until their time is up and the bid is released back to you. The full amount of funds then go back into your AT account. Typically a seller has 48-72 hours to complete the bid.
