Horrible service and subpar food at high prices.
I came here with my wife to celebrate her promotion, and from the moment we entered we had a feeling we'd be disappointed. The hostess was incredibly rude and didn't even look at us when we came in, as she was playing a game on her phone. Things just got worse from there, as the food was bland and some dishes even tasted like they'd gone bad.I won't be returning, and suggest you avoid if you want a good value. The Lobster Shack and the White Star tavern nearby are much better options.

This is a partial NYE post experience, as you know, I'm sure things are a bit different on any other normal day. To begin, when you walk into the main dining area you feel at home and there are many things to look at. From high ceilings, to the old school tiles, to beautiful bar. Glows:-Staff is friendly upon their initial greeting. -Decor is super warm and inviting. -There are quite a few options on the menu, so something for everyone. -Live music (not sure if they do this often, but call and find out)-Service is as good and staff is attentive

The Light Horse Tavern, named after Revolutionary War hero General Harry "Lighthorse Harry" Lee and located in Jersey City, New Jersey, is a great place to grab a meal.First, the ambiance is definitely pretty stellar. It is warm and inviting and allows you to feel comfortable as you look over the menu and plot your meal. The menu is extensive and everyone should be able to find something to grab their interest and tempt their tastebuds.Jersey City has certainly come into its own and having great places like the Light Horse Tavern makes Jersey City all the more of a trending city. All in all, I would definitely recommend the Light Horse Tavern and I will give it five stars. If you find yourself in Jersey City and want a great meal, head on over to the Light Horse Tavern. I am confident that you will enjoy a memorable meal as well as an overall memorable experience. Again, I will give the Light Horse Tavern an overall rating of five stars.

Food is good, but management/service could use an improvement. Why don't you list the name of the garage you have a deal with on your site? Or when people call? You just say two blocks away - guess what - there is a garage two blocks away in both directions. So of course we picked wrong and are paying 3x as much for parking as we should. Also the balding surly waiter needs a new profession.

Walked in with a reservation and kind of stood around the piano for a bit while we were unseen or ignored by staff. After a few awkward moments, someone came over to check us in and seat us. Here's the food breakdown:French onion soup - 4/5. Good flavor and cheesy but a bit on the salty side.Crispy Pork Ribs - 5/5! Order of 5 to share between 2. They're big and enough to constitute a meal. These were so dang good. Honestly, i would go back again and again just for these. LHT Burger - 4/5. Good burger. Lobster Roll - 4/5. Great lobster roll! Probably the best I've had in the JC/NYC area, outside of the hamptons or Maine.

Despite living down the street from Light Horse Tavern, yesterday was only my second time dining there and first time for brunch. It was a great experience and I'll definitely be adding this place to my list of brunch spots for when we have visitors. Bloody Marys are big and only $7 - a steal for the area considering similar-sized drinks elsewhere cost $10-$12. The menu has many unique flairs; we tried the Deep Fried Oysters and Parma Ham Grilled Artichokes and really loved both, especially the oysters, which were very fresh and didn't have the fishy taste that sometimes accompanies fried seafood. For entrees, my husband and I split the Pastrami sandwich and the Oaxaca Rancheros; both were delicious! The sandwich was a bit greasy and had to be eaten quickly to retain the taste, but still enjoyable overall. Definitely looking forward to returning soon.

Onion soup was good - slightly salty but nice and cheesy. Skirt steak was done perfectly. Only disappointed by the "chocolate" bread pudding which had minimal chocolate and freezer burned caramel ice cream on top. Should have chosen the cobbler - it looked much better. Hard to serve a whole room, so hats off to the patient and gracious waitstaff here.

I actually crave the tuna tartare ! The drinks are a little hit or miss- great flavours for the cocktails but last time I went it was too strong to enjoy ! I particularly enjoy the ambiance- dark lighting, but not too dark, good level of conversation and sometimes they even have live music !

Not sure if we had issues because we sat outside, but we waited 30-45 minutes for our food and when it came the order was incorrect. We didn't even ask for it to be corrected because it took so long to get it. We didn't get asked if we wanted another round of drinks until we were about to leave, never got a refill of water, etc. Our waiter was super nice and I honestly feel horrible for him, because it seems the restaurant itself is very understaffed.

One of my favorite places either has me owners or new management. But once a nice friendly place is not at all the maitre de doesn't even greet his guests. The dark haired guy with a moustache Are you f*ckin kidding me. Same with bearded bartender. Smile you know to the patrons. Really? It's a shame because i use to look forward coming here. Now they are as friendly as people at a bus station. The food has dropped a little. I hate posting reviews like this. However i use to adore this place. Now we ended up here because couldn't find parking anywhere

This review is for their Lobster Garage around the side of the building. We visited the Lobster Garage on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm. We thought we may have beat the brunch/lunch rush, and we did, but that lasted all of 15 minutes. People come here for the vibes and the drinks. The food maybe not so much. A few notes on why: Vibe:-Absolutely laid back and beautiful. It's easy to spend hours here just enjoying the scenery, drinks and sitting in a bright, colorful picnic table, bench or bar. Drinks:My boyfriend got a captain and ginger ale and I got the pina colada. His drink was very strong and mine was deliciously sweet and felt like I was on an island. This also lends to the vibe and makes it easy to spend hours when the drinks are good and the outdoor setting is inviting. The food:This is where it gets a bit dicey. For the price, I hoped that the dishes were tasty. Unfortunately, they weren't. We both ordered buttered lobster rolls at $28 a piece. And while it included a decent amount of lobster, there was lettuce (strange) and not an ounce of butter to be found. The lobster (as others mention) was super tough and chewy. It did come with house made potato chips and coleslaw. Definitely stick with the house made chips as they are delicious, but the fries were just ok. My boyfriend also has the clam chowder which was decent, but again for the price and taste, it wasn't great. All that said, I'd give this place 3.5 stars if Yelp allowed it, but since I'm kind, I'll round up to 4 stars for the fantastic outdoor setting, drinks and tasty chips.

Good for dates. Love the ambiance. Cocktails are pretty decent.
Be the first to ReplyI came here today looking for a brunch option.
I was with an older aunt who struggles a bit with social norms and when we entered she immediately asked the server for a table for two. The server completely ignored her and looked visibly annoyed that she had asked for table (the tavern was not terribly busy at this time but I still gave him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he was busy). But then he comes around the piano and tersely says "one second" with an attitude before storming past us outside. He then comes back and starts sorting menus, my aunt comments on how it feels so nice inside the restaurant with the AC (it was 88 degrees out and humid) he hears this and then motions us to a table directly next to the side door of the building directly exposed to the outside heat (despite there being plenty of seating in the restaurant) knowing full well he had put us in that spot out of some bizarre spite he had for my aunts earlier disruption (and this is confirmed when I ask for another table) to which he responds with "no!" While not even stopping and again storming off. There was no "oh I'm sorry we have reservations or let's see what we can do for you in our half empty restaurant."Look I get the service industry is largely a thankless job but this guy has no business being on front of house duty if he's going to be venting frustration with his career path on random people who've just walked inside your business. Do not work in service if you are not equipped to even acknowledge someone's presence or know how to extend a simple smile as a greeter. It was a large white male with dark brunette hair/facial scruff btw so I hope he does better/ service like that won't win your place of business any repeat guests and I was so glad to have got my aunt out of there the second I realized how we were being treated.

The room is inviting and the staff is helpful. The dishes are straight forward and prepared well. There is live jazz at times, enhancing the dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyLove the light horse tavern brunch.
This is a review for light horse tavern and not the lobster shack next to it. Prices are super reasonable and the portions are big and delicious. I got the steak and eggs for $19. Bigger piece of steak than I thought it would be. It was tender and cooked perfectly. Even mushrooms on top. Which where crispy and a nice touch. The rye bread was delicious too. And I asked for a side of hollandaise sauce since I love hollandaise sauce and they were so accommodating and no extra charges. My friend got bacon on her veggie Benedict and it only cost $2 extra dollars. The Bellini was great too and $6. I love the atmosphere here. Its so cozy and nice. At 12 on a Sat it wasnt too busy but I made a reservation anyway. The server and the hostess were so nice. I can't wait to come back again.

I was looking for a slam dunk brunch for an out of town friend and I, and am so glad I though of Light Horse Tavern. Our meal was great quality and so tasty. Not only was the food great but it was reasonably priced and service was great, especially considering we had to customize one of the omelets to be egg white only and swapped home fries for greens. I think LHT should have a higher rating in general as it has been great since my first visit in 2011.
