Met up with friends at Little Mad to try their tasting menu
Met up with friends at Little Mad to try their tasting menu on a Thursday night after work. It was overall a good experience, with regards to service and ambiance. The waiters were all very attentive and definitely knowledgeable about their menu, which I really appreciate, but the food itself was slightly lacking. I wasn't blown away by their tasting menu, and for the price I didn't find it to be worth it. Some standout dishes for me was definitely the beef tartare, the seafood lotus root bite from the chefs snacks and their grilled octopus. The sweetness from the maple bacon really complimented the grilled octopus, and the lotus root bite offered a very nice umami flavor. I really enjoyed their "It Slaps" passion fruit cocktail as well, but that was mostly it from all the other items we tried. It's a pricey tasting menu for what is offered, and honestly I would probably spend that money elsewhere.

I had been meaning to try this place for ages, and when my friend visited, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to go.VIBES/VALUE:The tasting menu is $95 per person, a recent increase (sad - but it seems that is the pricing for most of these Korean fusion-y places nowadays.) I do feel like in comparison to Joomak Banjum or Atoboy, Little Mad is more worth it. You get a lot more food, and actually leave feeling full! I also prefer Contemporary Korean more when it sticks to its traditional roots, so Little Mad was great for me.FOOD:- I loveeeed the amuse bouche "Chef Snacks". There were four different bites to try, and they were all delightful. (Names are escaping me, everything was great.)- For cold apps, we got the beef tartare and the scallop crudo. The beef tartare had a really interesting smoky flavor and didn't taste like the beef tartare I would get at French restaurants or at Korean restaurants (called yook-hwe), but it worked! The crudo came in this cloud of green foam that was fresh and delicious.- For warm apps, we got the grilled octopus and the chou farci mandoo. The octopus was good but not new, but the mandoo was great - it was wrapped in cabbage, instead of dumpling wraps, and tasted AMAZING. I had a similar dish at a Korean restaurant in Seoul called On 6.5, and Little Mad pulled it off better!- For our entrees, I got the bossom, and my friend got the lobster fried rice. The bossom had a suprisingly decent portion, and felt like a traditional Korean dinner set, with sot-bab (rice with mushrooms), kimchi, oysters and lettuce wraps. Honestly, would buy just this entree if I could.- For dessert, we shared the earl gray shaved ice and the rice pudding. I'm not a huge dessert person and pretty picky with them, but the early gray shaved ice was great before we inadvertently let it melt, haha. The rice pudding was missing a little something, but not sure.SERVICE: Everyone was very good about explaining dishes, refilling water, etc. The only thing I wish they had was an outlet that I could have plugged my phone into! I wanted to take photos for this review but they said they didn't have any :( Thankfully I was able to take them on my friend's phone.

It's expensive but worth every bit of it.I can't tell you one course was better than another because they were all excellent and mind blowing. I can tell you we are big eaters and we were full when we left. The service was excellent it the food was the star!

We were late for our reservation but the staff was nice enough to still let us dine at the counter. Behind us were the chefs and each meal being made which was fun to look at between dishes.Was given high hopes by a friend but what I've realized is to keep expectations still low so that things don't disappoint. I tried to be realistic but maybe still had too high of hopes on visiting. Regardless, it was still a pleasant experience. The food overall was very well done and there were a number of creative combinations that were tasty and refreshing (like the Asian pear with yellowtail). The add ons were a bit expensive and I don't know if I would get them again. I was excited for the scallion pancakes because they looked like taiyaki but really it's just the cuteness factor that was appealing about them. They were more doughy/cakey than normal scallion pancakes and didn't deliver as well as I'd hoped. Overall, nice experience. Good food though a bit pricey but then again it's New York. Maybe I would visit again if a friend really wanted to go but don't think would make it a regular spot for me.

Wish the flavor combos were more unexpected. The execution was super inconsistent. I'm glad I tried it but won't be back. Started with chef's snacks (4 amuse bouches) which was a super fun way to start the meal. Yellow tail crudo between lotus chips. Short rib Arancino balls. Corn taiyaki with a butter compote (maybe with shoyu?) that was delish. Fried soft shell crab. Followed very very quickly with the cold starts of beef tartare with a wonderfully smoky aioli and a shrimp chip, plus the scallop crudo with an amazingly zingy foam and sauce. (Marcel and Blais from Top Chef would be so proud of that foam!)We ordered the add-on LittleMad toast which needed a hit of acid. The toast was buttery and crisp, but the soft texture of the eggs, wagyu tartare, and truffle shavings, was just soft and creamy on soft and creamy. Something needed to be dialed up. Moved onto grilled octo, which was slightly overcooked and unfortunately the smaller bits were burnt to the point of bitter. I love a charred octo, but it was definitely past the point of charred. Shiso leaf also surprisingly lacked the fresh floral flavor it usually holds, which would've been a nice balance to the dish. Loved the bacon/shoyu bits though! Loved the cabbage-wrapped prawn and foie gras. It was light and fresh and reminded me of a very elevated shrimp dumpling from dim sum. The lobster sauce it sat it was fantastically rich and cream. Wish the basil oil would've been a little punchier. For the mains, we had the galbi and the branzino. Both were cooked perfectly and the sides paired really nicely. Besides the saamjang they provided with the galbi, there just wasn't anything all that memorable about either. Ordered the Mad Noodles add-on. It was butter and garlicky and comforting. The noodles tasted super fresh but could've been more al dente. And we only got like 2.5 crispy duck skin which was hiding under the foam, sitting on top of steaming hot noods, so the crispy skin turned soft before we got to it. It was a simple dish that def will help you leave not hungry, but it just wasn't satisfying for the extra $19. For dessert we had the black sesame pate a choux and the rice pudding. The pastry was stale and the black sesame flavor could've been a lot stronger. The rice pudding was the star of the desserts though. Creamy with some hints of citrus and hits of mint. The crispy candied walnuts added brilliant texture and grounded the whole dish.

We got the yellowtail, beef tartare, mad toast, fried buhsut, grilled octopus, prime galbi, lobster with rice, mad hungry noodles, and two black sesame pate a choux. Every bite was great, with the absolute best ones being the prime galbi and the fried buhsut (basically fried mushrooms with an onion dip). But we really loved every dish, maybe other than the dessert. (They were out of the matcha version, and neither of us are crazy about black sesame.)

It took a while to be served, but once they got going, attentiveness was good. However, they got both my appetizer and entree orders wrong, and it left a disappointing impression. I also did note the special occasion on Resy but it was not acknowledged by the restaurant. As for the food, 99% of the chef's snacks and appetizers that we tried were interesting and tasty. Standouts were the fried mushrooms, scallops, and one of the chef's snacks that resembled an arancini. If you're familiar with Korean food already, the Kalbi entree was a pale comparison to getting Kalbi at a normal Korean restaurant. The lobster entree was only just okay- the side salad was bland and the soup tasted like normal miso soup that I can make at home. Tried the earl tea ice and cream puff for dessert. If you like earl tea, I would recommend it.It was fun to try a place like this, but I won't be back since it didn't wow me enough.

5 stars for sure. Lots of real highs - especially the noodles, the uni/scallop combo, the snacks and the earl gray ice. A couple of let downs - the rice w/ the lobster had good texture, but no real flavor. Scallop not well prepped - was sandy and should have been sliced through so you could easily eat in smaller bites. Our serving was basically one large scallop. Lettuce with the beef was useless - too small and/or oddly shaped to hold the meat/rice, etc... The caviar toast supplement was not worth it - way too much bread for overwhelmed the caviar.The bigger issue is the kitchen vibe. These guys have an open kitchen and the chef was letting one of the guys on the line really have it. Not one member of the kitchen team looked like they were having fun and they have this crazy obsession calling out some response to Chef when he is managing expediting orders. Precision is great but to see the dynamic in the kitchen when there were fundamental lapses on the actual construction of dished like the beef and lobster start with the Chef. he should look in the mirror before letting his team have it in front of the patrons.

I was really looking forward to trying Little Mad since I have heard such great reviews about this place.My friend celebrated her birthday here over the weekend and the ambiance and service was wonderful. Our servers were attentive, friendly and helpful in explaining each dish. They recommended 2-3 dishes per person, but I think 2 dishes pp was perfect for us.My favorite dish was the Mad Toast and the Green Tea dessert at the end. All the other dishes were okay to me. Maybe I came here with really high expectations but the food is kind of overhyped for its price. Perhaps I will come back when their menu changes.

Chef Sols restaurant is a masterpiece of fine dining and authentic Korean flavors mixed in with the flavors of New York. Even sitting at the bar was an amazing experience! I went last Saturday to a very packed restaurant. Mad toast was amazing, rice was amazing! Perfect mixture of rice and that bone marrow was absolutely to die for. Seeing all the chefs so passionate about food is why this restaurant is an absolute jewel

My daughter and her friend were at the bar at Little Mad and my daughter invited me to join them. I arrived and was walking up to the bar when one of the servers ย blocked my way in the hallway and ushered me to walk back. Once at the reception, she told me that I could not join my daughter at the bar because they were not told ahead of time that I will be joining. I completely understand that they are right on space. But the way they handled me was third rate and outright hostile. Net net, I was able to say hello to my daughter and leave. It is a restaurant's prerogative to decide whom to host and when. But it is outrageous for them to literally drive someone out. Horrible experience. (My daughter was hosting a guest from overseas, and unfortunately had very limited time with her. She didnt exactly have the option of leaving this unwelcoming place)

Totally surprised by the food, I knew very little about the concept of the restaurant. Every dish was beautifully presented and the flavors were very savory and just full of lovely ingredients. Every was very tasty and worth it. It is a place I would want to return.

The small dishes / tapas style really allow you to try many of their different items; each different but unique. Would definitely recommend the galbi & the cod.

We were a party of 3 and reserved a few days ago. We got lucky with a Friday night 7:45pm time slot! Once in, we were told that we only had 90 mins to eat, which is a decent amount of time.The menu was new American with some Korean influence flavors. We really enjoyed all our dishes but portions were tiny! We ordered 5 items to share but after of all came out, we weren't full at all. Maybe we should've came with a party of 2 instead. FYI, prices are on the higher end but you can definitely taste the quality of the food. ย Service was good and everyone was friendly! Would recommend to come on a date of 2!

Loved that I entered this place jamming to the music that was playing on a Saturday night. The vibe was very upbeat and all around welcoming.My bf and I enjoyed a very good dinner and drinks. Our waiter was super attentive throughout the night. My favorite dishes in best to worst order: galbi (dip this in the sauce and you have a winner), branzino (sooo soft), oxtail ravioli, and the mad toast. I thought the mad toast was not that special but did the job of a first appetizer.Definitely coming back!

As a party of two, we ordered 3 cold small plates, 1 hot small plate, and 1 entree to split between us (more than enough, very filling!). We also got a fun caviar bump served directly from Chef Sol Han. Honestly none of the plates l disappointed us, so we'd recommend everything we ordered. Wouldn't recommend the Korean Fried Chicken or the Noodle dish in particular. Oxtail Ravioli and Galbi were decent. Overall though the food just isn't worth what they charge.
