Los Altos Grill Reviews from The Last Year

Los Altos Grill used to have no corkage fee which has been an attraction. However, it now instead charging hefty $25/btl. Consider nothing special with its foods with such limited menu, no sure why still go there now with so many other better restaurants around! The service is also pretty much nothing, waitress just took the order & asked "food was ok?" then pretty much no where to be found, except keep wanting to come back clean your table when we were still not yet done?
Terrible customer service, will kick you out if you take
Terrible customer service, will kick you out if you take too long, food is overly sweet (lots of sugar), not friendly to newcomers, the layout is cute

Stopped by here with a few friends for dessert and everything was impeccable! The oreo cookie dessert was to die for. Will definitely be back! Taking one star off because we asked for espresso martinis, and our server said that even though they have a full bar, they couldn't serve us the drink but they could bring us an espresso shot and the vodka separately? This was a little confusing. But otherwise, everything was great.

Los Altos Grill is an excellent restaurant with exceptional service. This is my favorite place for special occasions.
I highly recommend the restaurant, the service is great and
I highly recommend the restaurant, the service is great and the food is very tasty and accurate. The place has a romantic atmosphere that induces relaxation, the design is very luxurious, the bar and the selection of cocktails is also very impressive. I really liked that at all times of the day, morning, afternoon and evening, the menu changes accordingly and there is always something to look forward to!
Always consistent and great service and food.
When you come here you know you so t be disappointed. Must have their grilled artichoke it's the best and the sauce is finger licking good. I always save the extra sauce and use it for a dipping sauce for my fries. Nothing really disappointing here as their food menu and drinks are always great. My favorites are beef ribs and burger and cedar plank salmon. Desserts hot fudge sundae with the amazing chocolate sauce (Scharffen Berger) top notch.
I have been going to Los Altos Grill for many, many years.
Always excellent service always excellent food. During Covid-19, we would order our take-out dinners and to our amazement they were very good. Now this is not a fast food place, so expect to pay more than you may normally would at other food places.
Just ate here for the first time.
Service is friendly and excellent. Wait for a table was estimated to be long, but I was willing to eat the bar and my wait was about 30 seconds... On a Wednesday night, the place was both packed and /extremely/ noisy. I had the BBQ Beef Ribs, with 'Colcannon' potatoes rather than coleslaw, a glass of red wine, and key lime pie. With a comfortable tip the total was... $91.. But, well, it IS in Los Altos. The pie was quite good. Not the cloyingly sweet version that is typical, and I think the crust most mostly nuts. The menu listing said ribS. Plural. What arrived was 3 half-length segments of been rib. So 1.5 ribs, actually. Covered in a nice, unremarkable sauce. Not much beef flavor, though BBQ'd beef ribs usually are strong on smoke and beef flavor. I'm going to guess the ribs were baked, not smoked. (Revision: It finally dawned on me that these were probably short ribs, rather than 'regular' beef ribs. But since that didn't seem quite right, I did a little more research and came across beef 'back' ribs. That looks about right. Short bone, not much meat.) The potatoes are mashed, with bits of cabbage throughout. Pleasant, but not interesting. Which pretty much summarized the meal. Except for the pie, of course.
Tried to get reservation for 3 people.
Impossible at any time on day requested. Apparently restaurant prefers tables of 2. What?
Hands down my favorite American restaurant.
I didn't really have one until now. The food is executed with grace and care. Every bite of it gives you the taste that you'll remember. We ordered the artichokes with my husband, best one I've had so far. We also split the cheeseburger and got fries and kale salad for the sides. Get the kale salad! You won't regret it.. for dessert we got hot fudge ice cream sundae.. that was something! The service was great and the ambience is a bit more intimate and pleasant. Great for date nights!
I am a 4 star reviewer, and they got 5! Great hidden gem!
I am a 4 star reviewer, and they got 5! Great hidden gem! There is a limited lunch menu but fear not. There is no need for a larger menu. If you are looking for an incredible lunch, just order the French Dip and you can die happy! The meat was so perfectly cooked that it melted in my mouth. I probably could have ate another sandwich, it was that good! The au ju was an incredible broth as well. Perfect balance of broth to oil and I almost drank it! Side of fries with the spicy mayo....mm mm good! I think the spicy mayo had some soy sauce mixed in. Very good! And do yourself a favor and try the salt mix. It was also good. My father had the buttermilk chicken sandwich and said the slaw in the sandwich was delicious. The staff was friendly, attentive, and the food came out fast. The dining room gave me a jazz club feel. Probably because of the jazz music playing, but also dark warming tones. I'm sure this place is great for dinner as well. If you value your taste buds, come here and get the French Dip!!! If you have no sense of taste, this place might change that for you.
I have to say, Koenig is hands down one of the best
I have to say, Koenig is hands down one of the best restaurant in the Bay Area. I hadn't planned on writing a review for Los Altos Grill, but after seeing its 3.8 Yelp star rating, I felt it didn't do justice to the quality of this restaurant. I've been a loyal customer for years, particularly because of their delicious beef ribs, grilled artichoke, and salad, among other select menu items. What amazes me is that the taste is consistently incredible every time I visit. The restaurant is always bustling with customers, and there's often a line, which speaks volumes about the great ambiance, service, and food they offer.
Best sandwich of my life.
For years I have made it a point to come here and get the prime rib au jus whenever I am in town from Texas, and this most recent visit was no exception. Piled high with shaved prime rib on the fluffiest fresh baked bread a homemade horseradish sauce and broth that's been cooked to perfection over hours, it's unmatched. The rest of the food is good too. The deviled eggs have a sweet and tangy vibe and if they are in season the grilled artichokes are always wonderful with fantastic sauce. It's super cozy inside with a lovely corner fireplace for when it's chilly. Everyone working is so helpful and everyone chips in and is so attentive regardless of who is your specific server.
Reservations? I've been to this place a million times.
Sometimes they take a reservation other times no. Every time I call it's a different story. Tonight, hour and a half wait but no one waiting. Told there's 5 reservations in front of u. Table for two? Idk. Just frustrating. Especially on a Monday night. Random.
Consistently good food, service and energetic ambience.
Not a bad dish. Never a disappointment
Skillet cornbread and emerald kale salad are good.
It's crowded and energic inside. Old school vibe inside.
They need to change up their menu very limited menu.
Good food but it'd be nice to see a change.
Good food.
Small selection and quite pricey but you're in Los Altos so it's understandable.
I really wanted to like this place, but just so utterly
I really wanted to like this place, but just so utterly disappointed. If you have children that need to sit in the highchair, don't bother because they don't have any. The whole restaurant is pretty much all booth seating except for the bar and it's so difficult to bring any children here so I would just say don't bring your kids. The menu is super limited (at least for lunchtime). Didn't really like the food too much and now that this review was overdue I don't remember what we ordered but that's got to tell you that it wasn't worth mentioning. I also feel the service was subpar that day, and I'm not sure if race has to do with anything but we were the only Asian people sitting in the restaurant.it just seemed like other people were getting more service and more attention than us. I don't think I'll return although I've heard great things, but I just didn't get that same experience.
Nice place with good food
Very busy place at night, reservations must be made but we still waited. The food is very good, several options but the cheeseburger is of excellent quality. Good range of drinks and wines, and you can bring a bottle with corkage. Good service.
Don't Miss This Great Spot!
Let's be honest: LAG is the only place in Los Altos with the cocktails, ambiance, and food that is worth the time, money and effort to get a reservation in Los Altos...or Mountain View... or Sunnyvale...or Redwood City? Anyway ... Excellent Steaks. Excellent French Dip. Roasted artichokes. Cornbread. Good wine list. Generous cocktails. Comfy booths. Sometimes some live music to improve your evening. Horseshoe bar. They know what they're doing. I've eaten here dozens of times. Never had a bad meal, let alone poor service. Go.
Exceptional fare at Grille
Lunch is quieter vs. evening is a happening vibe! Outstanding menu using fresh ingredients. Individual cornbreads a delight! Good cocktails and wine list. Great place to take visiting guests. Reservations needed in evening.
What's happened to the Los Altos Grill? Good food and service were missing.
Very disappointed with dinner tonight. We were celebrating our daughter's birthday and engagement. This was one of our daughter's favorite restaurants, which is why we went here tonight. The restaurant wasn't super busy so no real reason for lackluster food and service. We'd been to Los Altos Grill several times and always had excellent food and service. Tonight fell well short of that. The menu was very limited - no specials had to ask server questions, and he provided no information upfront. The food was just okay - nothing special, bland at best. The ribeye steak was thin and not great; 3 puny BBQ ribs; In N Out burger puts the LAG burger to shame (for about 1/4 the cost); and Ahi Tartare was bland, and needed Tabasaco to give it any flavor. The best thing was the queso dip appetizer. We had to continue asking for water, drink glasses were smaller than a juice glass. I know we're coming out of a drought, but give more than a thimble full of water. I don't often write reviews, but I read them all the time and just thought I needed to share our disappointment so that other readers had this perspective. If you try LAG, I hope you have a better experience than we did tonight. So, so disappointed.

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
