Father’s day dins
First time here and finally got a table! Our family of 9 had an early dinner here and ordered a few pies. All brought in timely manner, tasted great and the service was good too! We ate outdoors because it was nice weather.
Be the first to Replyworth the hype
You must be ready to get in line to wait for a table. The restaurant is very very small but staff will get you in as long as you have the patience to wait. The pizza is phenomenal.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience
CASH only, which is an odd business model nowadays, where it’s more and more cash less. It’s also nowhere written on their google maps place, which would be great to know, before your visit. I’m a real pizza lover, especially the neapolitan style pizza and because of the hype about this place I was really curious to have one of these. The prices are pretty high for a pizza, 32$ but if it’s really that good, maybe it’s worth it and give it a try? Unfortunately they closed the shop on Thursday, without updating their google maps place, there was just a board inside their shop, that it’s closed today and see you tomorrow again. Which is funny because, if you’re not from this area, you want see this board until you spend an hour to reach this place. That’s an absolutely no go if you run a business like that! Second day, second try and the board outside says it’s cash only no credit cards, so no cash no pizza. If you still want to visit this pizza shop, try to be there early, I went there 8 minutes after they have opened up and it was already packed so you have to wait for a free table. People in line before where told 1 table 1 hour time.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Pizza, well worth the wait
You can see why this is rated as one of the best pizzas in NYC. The staff are great, the owner is super nice, the place has a great vibe and the pizza is amazing. Yes you have to queue, we got there at 3:15 and there was quite a few in front of. Once we got our name taken, for a 6pm slot we went to the Abilene Bar for a few drinks, which was fun. This was on our must do list while visiting from New Zealand and it didn't disappoint. Well worth the wait and will be back next time in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyThe HYPE is worth it!!
The pizza and calzone live up to the hype. It’s worth investing the time to stand in line for this culinary experience. The best part of the night was Mr. Lucali taking the time to say hi to us and take a photo with my nephew. What a great ending to a special night!
Be the first to ReplyWon’t go back, not the best pizza!
Delicious calzone, horrible service from the host. Doesn’t take reservations, only cash as form of payment and limited menu.
Be the first to ReplyStop rewarding these so called famous restaurants with your time and money
Have the courtesy to have something on your website or voicemail that you’re closed on July 4. Your baby Luc consolation pizzeria is a huge letdown
Be the first to ReplyBest pizza I’ve had
I came over from Scotland and I’ve been to many places around the world and tried a lot of good pizza and for me personally this was my favourite yet. It was light , fluffy , crispy had lots of cheese on top along with lots of fresh basil that had been scattered after the pizza had been cooked and the tomato sauce was perfect. The crusts were perfect size ratio also and the shaved Parmesan on the base was another nice touch , I can’t fault this pizza. Only annoying thing is turning up an hour before opening time to que and put name down. The calzone was nice also but for me it’s all about the pizza.
Be the first to ReplyAVOID! Not worth the direspect
Great pizza, horrible service. NEVER AGAIN. I have rarely seen a more disrespectful reservation system, one that is so offensive towards the customers. First there is NO reservation system at all. The place opens at 5pm but you have to come a 4pm or better yet at 3pm stay in line and get booked at like 8 or 9pm. We got there at 4.30pm stayed in line till 5pm to be told we have a table at ….9.40pm. that Who does this? What kind of restaurant does this kind of reservations. Shame on you Mr Lucali! I have traveled all over the world and this treatment goes right there with the worse of all. Oh and you should train your hostesses because they are just awful. When I asked if we should stay in line for a table she said “you stay in line to talk to me” Really? Do yourself a favor and try other pizza places in NYC line Roberta’s or Patsy’s and avoid Lucali. It’s not worthy of your time unless you wanna spend 6-7 hours for a pizza. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Be the first to ReplyNot my type
Not my type of place. They have a time policy so that you can only stay one hour in the restaurant. After one hour they get agressive and the service is offensive. The brunette waitress was even very rude asking if I wanted to seat on her lap when I was waiting in the corridor to get out (even though her colleague put me there after making me get out of the table). Also, they recommend that you bring your own wine, but they don't have the glasses for that. The flavour of the pizzas and the calzones are just ok. Personally I prefer the pizzas you find in every corner of Manhattan. Definitely not worth all the trouble.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing!!
Lucali’s lives up to the hype! The pizza is enormous and delicious. I was blown away by the calzone, I may have even liked it more than the pizza. Line wasn’t too long in the winter, will definitely try to go back before the spring/summer crowds.
Be the first to ReplyLovely place!
Have a plan when going to Lucali. We were visiting NYC for a few days and our son wanted to try Lucali's because he follows Bar Stool Sports pizza reviews. We took the subway to Brooklyn and got in line at 3:45. There was at least 30 people ahead of us and since the restaurant only has seating for 20 people - we knew we would be waiting awhile to get our table. At 4:15 they started taking names and we were told to come back at 7. So we walked 10-15 minutes or so and went to some of the shops in the area. We hung out at a coffee shop too and then walked back to Lucali for the 7pm reservation. The atmosphere is lovely - lots of candles and you can see the chefs by the oven making your pizza. We had a cheese pizza with basil...the basil leaves were huge. I have never seen basil leaves that huge in my life. It was awesome. Everyone loved the pizza and we also had a calzone which our family enjoyed. Service was good and I would recommend Lucali to anyone wanting to try great pizza.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect Pizza and Service!
We arrived at 4:15 pm and the line was already about 30 deep. Once the waiting list started we got a 6 pm time.
The hostess was very clear to arrive 5 minutes before our time and that we would have the table for an hour.. That’s very helpful and set the expectation.
Also, it’s BYOB - bring your own bottle, which makes dining even easier because there are zero beverage decisions.
After roaming around the neighborhood and conversing with a local who shared the history and his time in the area we returned about 5:45 pm. Our table was ready and we sat in the window.
The order consisted of a pizza with half pepperoni and half cheese with basil added. We also got a small calzone.
The pizza was perfect and met the wild expectations I had built up in my mind concerning the myth and lore of Lucali’s!
The calzone came after we polished the pizza off and that timing was nice. It kept the table from getting cluttered. The calzone was by far the best we’d ever had and the dipping sauce was on point.
Overall the experience was exceptional. We loved every aspect of the evening.
please make me wait
Should you be waiting for 5hrs for pizza. Probably not. Should you let a stars' inked twenty something gen-teta mistreat you while you wait. Should not. And yet we did all that. S&M, maybe? Pure ugly delicious fetishism, sure. Bucket list idiocy? Hmmm. Will we do it again? Definitely! I mean like once a year. Decent pie thin crunchy and yet chewy at the same time. Not a calzone person so no cheesy comments about how melty it is. Love anything BYOB. Get there early. We thought we did but star spangled hostess rolling eyes disagreed.
Be the first to ReplyGreat pizza, questionable attitude
As many others have stated, Lucali's pizza is certainly worth trying. It's delicious.
But unfortunately their reputation has gone to their head. Guests are made to queue outside for 1+ hours in the middle of winter, and then are met by an unfriendly member of staff who reads off a list of rules and dictates at which time you must return to eat.
Great food, but arrogance rules the place.
Great pizza, even better calzones!
My adult son and I had a mid-week dinner here in July. Stopped by ~4:40pm, put in our name on the waiting list, asking if they had a 7pm slot. They did (the line wasn't that long, ~12 people ahead of us) and we went off to explore the neighborhood. Came back ~ 6:50p and they could seat us immediately.
Had a margherita pizza and a mushroom/onion/artichoke heart small calzone. Pizza came first and it was great- thin, crispy crust w/a fresh tasting sauce and tasty chesees. But as good as it was, the calzone was the evening's showstopper- a delicious blend of cheeses with the veggies and the wonderful marinara sauce that was outstanding. If you come here don't miss out on the calzones- they are better than the pizzas!
Decent service, great pizza
My friend and I were disappointed by the service but the quality and the taste of the pizza definitely made up for it. We had to wait quite a bit and the server also didn't seem to have his best day. Anyway, would recommend this place and come back for some delicious pizza.
Be the first to ReplyDON’ T BOTHER GOING
The staff is not nice, and the attitude of the whole place is arrogant. You cannot build a reputation by simply playing “hard to get”. When we arrived we were glad to see the place was busy (specially considering how hard things have been), only to be let down immediately by a very rude hostess who probably felt she was too important to work at a pizza place. We made the trip to Brooklyn just for the pizza but we’ll never come back. Don’t waste your time coming here unless you want to be served so poorly it won’t matter how the food tastes.

Probably the best pizza in town. Very good food, varied menu. Good atmosphere. Totally recommendable I will come back for sure
