Lyle's London Reviews from The Last Year
This place far exceeded expectations.
The food was phenomenal, service was incredibly personal and detail-oriented, and the atmosphere was quite lovely albeit different than expected. Allergens/dietary restrictions were accommodated beautifully. I will remember the pheasant broth as one of the best things I have ever tasted. I'm not particularly partial to oysters, but these were fabulous. I walked away trusting the chef with my life. Bravo, great experience!
Their oysters are to die for.
They add watermelon juice on top of the oysters and omg! Wow!!!
home to the micro-seasonal, modern British cooking of chef
home to the micro-seasonal, modern British cooking of chef James Lowe. With a short tasting menu at dinner and à la carte options at lunch, Lyle's explores British delights like green asparagus with nettle and egg yolk in spring, or duck breast with preserved wild mulberries in autumn. Everything is served in a spacious, light-filled dining room in the historic Tea Building, once a Lipton factory, in the foodie-favourite neighbourhood of Shoreditch.
A trendy delicious restaurant in a trendy part of London.
The service was great and the food was outstanding. The serving sizes are a bit larger than I'm used to for tasting menus, but not complaining--just an observation. This is definitely worth a try on your visit.
Was able to snag a last minute reso.
Service was slow and the food was pretty bland. Started w/ scallops, which made my tummy turn. At first really enjoyed the grapefruit citrus pairing, but there was something in the seasoning that did not sit well w/ my stomach. Asparagus might've been the most overpriced vegetable I've ever ordered. Normally I'm a fan of anything w/ an egg accompaniment, but yet again, something was off w/ it. The only good part was using the bread to absorb the sauce aftermath. The highlight was the eel - much to my surprise. And the beet accompaniment was such an interesting contrast. I'd order it again for sure. Same w/ the pork belly. Prepared very differently from what I'm used to and I enjoyed how thinly sliced it was. They should extend their lunch hours to start at 11 or 11:30 at the latest to stagger the people more. It was pretty obvious how busy and overwhelmed both the FOH & BOH got. The pacing of the food was so awkward and I felt like we were always waiting for something.
