Almost perfect!
A nearly perfect night out at Lyleโs. Food, service and atmosphere were all absolutely superb, especially going out of their way to wish one of our party a happy birthday with some beautiful little cakes. The only thing that let it down was being rushed off the table towards the end. We knew the booking was for 2 and a half hours but at one point, the waiter apologised for the delay with one of the courses meaning we were running a little behind through no fault of our own. This meant the courses and wines during the last half hour were very rushed. It was a shame as it really was superb up until that point. All that said, I would probably still go again, just maybe go for the later sitting.
Be the first to ReplyGood but not mind blowing
It was good but I had huge expectations and it did not work for me as much as I hoped. I had the luck to go to Brat and Clove Club the same week, and while the presentation was comparable or better, the meal did not come together in the same way. I did not care for the oysters as the Mandaran overpowered the oysters. I found the whelk excellent, probably the highlight. I also thought the turbot was very good. While I enjoyed the mallard and it was presented beautifully, it didnโt work for me perfectly. Service was efficient but not as warm as comparable restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyVery good, just not worth the prices.
We very much enjoyed our dinner at Lyle's. The food was excellent and the service friendly. Ambiance was just ok - not really a stylish setting, just a bunch of tables in a white room with a view of the kitchen. Over $400 USD for two with the wine pairings for 4 courses is a little much for what you get.

A wonderfully unique experience. World class food and service delivered in a casual environment. Highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing
Quality produce and wine throughout the entire set menu. It was a true delight. Very warm welcome as well, great hospitality. A must do when "siting London, located in the vibrant Shoreditch
Be the first to ReplySharing plates but too small
Located In the tea building, short walk from Shoreditch over ground. Minimal and modern interior with open plan kitchen. Sharing plates which was great except that portions are too small for any more than two it because unpractical to share as portions too small. Good cocktails- had the negroni. Amazing food: Oysters with pears, grilled mussels and the eel was excellent . The pollock was unimaginable and a easy take on fish and chips. the Bavette was average beef meat and cooked well but as good as it gets for the average meat. Deserts was good- the choux pastry and the bara brith. Service was good- recommendations and interactive.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing food
We visited Lyleโs for dinner and there is one set menu that seems to change everyday. Perhaps we were unlucky with our menu but we were very underwhelmed by the food. The best part was the bread and butter! The rest of the dishes included smoked eel in pigs head broth, grouse or pheasant and a few mussels in a sweet sauce with sprout heads. Very expensive for average food. The service was amazing, however. And the decor and atmosphere was great. Just the food letting the restaurant down. Wouldnโt recommend.
Be the first to ReplySuperb
Great staff, amazing and innovative food. Casual setting, extraordinary bread/butter beginning to meal. Unusual (at least to me) flavor combinations; highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyElegant understated restaurant with great staff and incredible food
Staff couldnโt have been more friendly! The building is spacious, beautifully designed and clean. Food was simply incredible. Amazing place and atmosphere, and very good value for money. Also caterers to any food preferences one may have ie pescatarian/ vegan etc. Looking forward to going back. Huge thank you to the team!

While my wife and I expected the food to be of a high quality, what made this an exceptional evening was the brilliant staff who attended our table. They were all fantastic, taking time to chat and offer advice on the local area. One of the best meal experiences we have had.
Be the first to ReplyTop notch service
First up, TOP notch service especially from Ed and although we did not inform the restaurant early that we have a child travelling with us, they made the effort to accommodate and tried to cook something the child was willing to eat. Everything on the degustation menu was pleasing to the palate with the exception of the cockerel which unfortunately we didn't enjoy. The restaurant was very kind to compensate us for it. All in all, a pleasant evening and that said a lot for the single fact that all of us were still jet lagged as we had just landed, so good work to the team at Lyle.
Be the first to ReplyNice date experience
Waiters have exceptional manners!!! we were very well taken care of. Food was great but for me the employees made it an experience. We went with husband for a date evening and they made us feel very special. My husband runs a restaurant so understands how much skill this takes. He was very impressed too.
Be the first to ReplyOne of our best recent London restaurant experiences, although not perfect.
Excellent food though only โgoodโ ambience, service and drinks menu. My wife and I celebrated her birthday at Lyleโs on a Saturday night. We are both vegetarian and were very impressed by the variety and quality of the dishes. They capably catered for her no tomato preference. Easily the best meal food-wise we have had in London for years. The rest was merely โgoodโ. The room was nice but not particularly attractive with a table or two too many crammed in. The service was good but not stellar. The descriptions of the food were half-hearted and in a couple of cases incorrect (though we referred to the menu for the correct descriptions). The cocktail and wine list were decent but not great. Overall, the quality of the food means that we still consider this to be one of our best recent restaurant experiences in London. However, we wouldnt say it was the best in London and certainly not one of the best globally. A very solid 4-star rating.
Be the first to ReplyExcellence in abundance
That it took our cab about an hour to get to Lyleยดs was an inconvenience very quickly forgotten. A very friendly welcome, the plain but comfortable room, the open kitchen and the menu convinced us to have made the right choice. The staff, namely Gabrielle - the sommeliere- and Thomas were fabulous, the food absolutely first class, and the wine menu quite exciting. Gabrielles comments to the wine pairings were convincing, all in all it was an exciting Dinner, exciting wine and a very special place. Hope to be able to come back for more !
Be the first to ReplyHugely enjoyable!
Would give extra points if possible ๐ Brilliant, attentive and - best of all - very knowledgeable staff, adventurous and surprising wine choices. The food was just as pleasant, extremely well executed and wonderful. We will surely be back!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food marred by the service and pacing
If I considered the food alone, this would be a 5-star review. However, I"m knocking it down for 2 reasons. First, the service. I sat next to a thoroughfare and the waitstaff bumped me every single time they passed by me. Every single time. The thoroughfare was not narrow. There was plenty of space. I'm also not one where you need to bend over backwards with me. But when you bump someone not once, but say 15 times, you should probably give an apology or at least an acknowledgment. Not one of those 15 times did any of the servers do either. Also, the waitstaff who took my order was pleasant enough, but then completely disappeared once she took the order. Which leads me to my second point. The pacing was SO SLOW. I ordered 2 appetizers and 1 main. I had intended to order a dessert, but because the meal took too long, I ran out of time. We're talking 30+ minutes between the 2nd and 3rd course. Again, no one came to check on me. No one came to say...it'll just be a few minutes. Nothing. The food was great. The atmosphere was great (except for getting bumped every few minutes). But the service and pacing would deter me from going back. If you want a World's 50 Best Restaurant in Shoreditch, go to Clove Club instead.
Be the first to ReplyLove this place!
We have had a reservation 5 times but due to lockdown only finally got to try this place recently and oh my it was worth the wait! All the food we ate was absoluely gorgeous, special shoutout to the smoked eel dish - what a treat! Our waitress was amazing, she talked us through the whole menu and was super knowledgeable about all of the different ingredients and dishes. Love it here! Will be back for more!
Be the first to ReplyMy wife Birthday Lunch
We visited Friday the 17th of June for my wife birthday. The first dish salad had a worm on top, we returned they offered a 'Fresh one' we refused as how you can trust after seeing that... I convinced my wife to stay (not a good start). - Salad: -1 out of 5 critters included if I was in a Oaxacan restaurant and ask for worms will be happy as they are cooked not live... - Tripe: 2.5 of 5 - Eel: 4 of 5 - Grilled cheese: 3.5 of 5 - Pork: 4 of 5 - Pastry: 3 of 5 - Coffee dessert: 4.5 of 5 Service mediocre, they don't explain the menu. I add on the reservation that was my wife birthday they didn't write it on the dessert, disappointing. Ambient is unremarkable, like a Soviet era Polish Milk bar... Staff need retraining and more attention to detail.
Be the first to ReplyMediocre and overpriced
The 4 of us had a mixture of the vegetarian and non vegetarian tasting menuโs with accompanying wines. Of the 5 or so food courses I would say the food was variable at best. A couple of ok dishes interspersed with those that were just not good enough. The wine on the other hand was poorly matched. We were offered 5 wines. 2 complemented or enhanced the food. The other 3 just didnโt cut it. A terribly disappointing evening for ยฃ600. Not in the same league as multiple competitors out there.
Be the first to ReplyWhere is the chef
Iโll start with the good things
Service was courteous and not fussy
Booking was an easy process and when we were delayed by 15 mins , it was easy to call up and inform them
The food
Except for the first course which was oysters, ( no hors dโoevre ) the rest was inedible
The fish courses ,the asparagus, the duck breast ( which replaced the pork dish , without informing us ) and the single dessert course were insipid , uninspiring and lacked taste or any complexity. The knife accompanying the courses did not manage to cut through the salad leaves , let alone the monkfish or the asparagus.
The asparagus and the rhubarb ( in the dessert) were well past their best days and were toughened and dry .
Not sure of how this deserves a Michelin star let alone a place on the top 50 list
It is in the top spot for the worst place we have eaten yet
Overrated
Donโt bother. We had 9 dishes and only 1 was worth the money. Massively over priced for what was stay at home and make yourself food.
Brat around the corner is in a different league all together.
Wonderful!
Wonderful! We keep coming back. Chefs are doing an amazing job. A simple tasting menu of 5 dishes is seasonal, full of flavour and affordable. The portion size is spot on โ it's actually one of the few restaurants where you don't feel bloated after having a set menu.
The venue is informal, has minimalistic decor and feels light and pleasant. Our waiters have been very friendly, kindly explained every dish, and recommended really good wine.
Thank you again, we'll be back!
Excellent meal
Perfect time and great meal with friends. We enjoyed the testing menu and especially fish. Great choice of light courses. Pleasant atmosphere at the restaurant.

Recently went here for dinner, having been twice for lunch pre-covid. Dinner is a set testing menu and it was fantastic. The food is great, the staff are super friendly and clearly passionate about the food. I can't recommend this place enough

We had a fabulous time at Lyle's. The staff were so accomodating to us and our baby and made the experience really enjoyable for us. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very relaxed and inviting. The food was beautiful and the wine recommendation was perfect.
