Amazing food and wine, great atmosphere, friendly staff
We had an amazing meal here, one of the best we ever had. We had the tasting menu and it was superb, highlights were the cosl fired oyster with a delicious dressing, salt cod croquette, and hake with a cocunut curry sauce which I wouldnโt usually order. All the wine was amazing. On top of that great service, very friendly staff, and really nice atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Great meal, fab service, no idea why we haven't been there before. Beautiful, inventive food, emphasis on fish obviously. Please go.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing quality, innovative food, great night
It was our first time so we opted for the tasting menu. EVERY element sublime. If I had to choose a favourite it would be the coal fired oysters with chilli miso or the monkfish with peanut ,chilli & coconut ๐Staff were so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Place was buzzy. We have newly returned to Crouch End so are really chuffed with this addition and will definitely be back. My only advice.....ignore the negative comments on here, I can only assume they are from haters as we couldn't find fault at all. ๐
Be the first to ReplyStyle over Substance
Our expectations were high; the menu is imaginative, promises a lot but fails to deliver. Bone marrow rarebit was a delicious treat amongst other mediocre dishes. Also, pricey - 4 king prawns for ยฃ28 and a 12.5% service charge on top, plus a charitable donation which we were not made of.
Be the first to ReplyA lovely meal , shame about the desertsโฆ
Went for a birthday meal with the family and ordered the set menu. Good service and delicious food that was sadly ruined by the deserts. We thought we would recieve honeycombe ice cream only to be given inedible lemon sorbet that was an apparent โupgradeโ even though we didnโt want or order it. When we complained about the desert they said they would speak to the chefs but it was still on the bill even though we barely touched it. Felt a little cheated to get charged for something we didnโt want, or order as we spent over ยฃ300 and yet still get charged ยฃ15 for an inedible desert. And while the coffee was nice we left with a slightly bitter taste in our mouthsโฆ Manager should just have taken it off.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing food , mediocre delivery and definitely overpriced
We ate here as a group of four. The restaurant was not particularly busy on arrival as two of the waiting staff were sitting folding napkins on one side of the room. We did not order starters as the choice was limited to oysters, cervice or Wye Valley asparagus - a mixture of white & green. As previously reported by other reviewers when it came to the MV fish at ยฃ11.95 per 100g, the smallest portion on offer was 300g in spite of the host advising us that 200g per person was the recommendation. Unless I'm ordering a whole fish I do not understand the inability of a restaurant to cut 300g into two pieces at 150g! Our main courses of Day Catch ( grey mullet) and mussels in a coconut chilli sauce were great. The vegetarian option of roasted aubergine was undercooked and tough. We ordered a selection of sides including purple sprouting brocolli - just before our mains arrived I was advised that this would be spinach and green asparagus. Needless to say this side arrived just as I was finishing my main course and the green asparagus was hard and undercooked. Moving on to desserts we had the rhubarb, strawberry and macha mouse. Expecting the rhubarb to be the major flavour - there were just three small pieces of rhubarb and the strawberries dominated. We asked for an espresso coffee and were offered an Americano as an alternative - now we all know Americano is a diluted espresso - so why could a Michelin recommended restaurant not deliver an espresso. Finally advance warning on the wine list - minimum pricing for a ยฃ10 bottle of supermarket quality wine was ยฃ35 to ยฃ50. Crouch End is a great district but this restaurant was disappointing for food quality and overpriced given the service offered.
Be the first to ReplyCreative dining in Londonโs Crouch End
Small but creative and interesting menu. All dishes prepared to be shared. Everything we ordered was unique and delicious! Cheerful atmosphere in the heart of Londonโs Crouch End.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth it
The second time Iโve visited here, and was worse than the first. Kept moving people around their โdesignatedโ seats which ok, fine. They didnโt have any by the glass rose wine despite advertising. Charged us ยฃ2 for tap water..(?) and added on a charity fee - which 100% donโt mind paying! But it was not asking. Lastly the fish we ordered suddenly didnโt have the correct size advertised and then was up sold to the large portion - again fine but at market value seems odd. For what you pay - itโs not worth it at all, so many other well put together restaurants in north London.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed
waitress reluctant to take my daughter's voucher - and a little gruff. Bread very poor as was the horrible dessert. the sharing dishes were very tasty and wine pleasant but our monkfish was charged at mv which shouldn't be for monkfish. It was a very very expensive evening for a local eater.
Be the first to ReplyMediocre at best and expensive
My husband and I visited here after hearing amazing reviews. The atmosphere is lovely, and the staff well intentioned, but itโs just not great overall, sadly. The food is pleasant but not worth the hefty price tag, or anything to write home about. The monkfish is delightful but small and very overpriced for what it is; Iโm glad I asked the price each!! The service needs some serious attention - too long a wait for almost all parts of our meal, and this added a lot of frustration. Tables near us evidently felt the same. Well intentioned but refinement needed by management on all accounts - especially at that price tag. We wonโt be returning, but wish this restaurant and their staff well.
Be the first to ReplyWorst dining experience Iโve had
The most shockingly abysmal dining experience Iโve ever had. It took over ONE HOUR to get our drinks - Diet Coke and white wine, hardly rocket science. By that time we had already received our starters. An ADDITIONAL 45 minutes later our food still hadnโt arrives. So we are now 1h 45 min into a meal with no main. Told the front of house we would like to leave and received some fake teary eyes and speed about how this โNEVER happens hereโ. What a waste of an evening. Sort it out Lyonโs.
Be the first to ReplyFeel a bit ripped off
Had what ended up being a very expensive meal for food that was a bit hit & miss & will not be going back. Most disappointing was not to be told the price of the monkfish even though the waiter said he would let us know. I read this happened with someone else in these reviews. We were charged ยฃ40 when we got the bill but it was lukewarm and had tasted bland. The sauce of yoghurt, chilli and mango chutney was good but the fish itself was very average. The small plate of cured bass was good but came with a lot of sauce and nothing to mop it up with. A tiny slaw for ยฃ6 was not worth it. The gurnard at about ยฃ23 was fine but nothing amazing. Overall it felt pricey & all the sauces were quite sweet. Wouldnโt mind paying these prices had the food been more consistent and a bit more generous. No wine or alcohol & the bill was ยฃ150. I can eat a lot better in restaurants in town for that price so wonโt be coming back. Service was ok but a little slow as others have commented. Our waiter did not know what the special of miso fish collar was. The tahini cracker with the tartar was outstanding though.
Be the first to ReplyReasonable good but would like more fish options to be excellent
We reserved a table and were welcomed with a smile from must of the staff. The restaurant was very busy and I felt that our service was reasonable good . We had to remind the staff twice about our ยฃ51 bottle of wine and to get us water. We order our meal from Black a large blackboard. Mussels to start in a parsnip cream sauce . They were delicious. Would have expected a little more that the size of the portion and some bread to soak the leftover sauce. The Brisket cubes starter were a little dry but ok. Monkfish Tandoori shared plater was cooked perfectly and delicious. No dessert taken and only black coffee available. I expected more of a selection of fish options Not sure if I would return.
Be the first to ReplyHow to ruin a great meal
I have never posted a review in my life but I was so incensed at how a beautiful meal was unexpectedly ended. We booked a table for 6.45 waited about 15 min for our drinks order to be taken, another 15 for our starter order to be taken and told our main order would be taken later . Waited another 20 min - 30 min for starters to arrive, but were happy to quaff the excellent wine . Again we waited for our mains order to be taken and it arrived another 30 min later. We were all quite happy to wait- the food is exceptional and cooked to order. We were preparing to place our dessert and coffee order but were abruptly told we had to leave the table as our 2 hours was up - at no point were we informed that there was a time limit on the table, we would have insisted they take our mains order at the time of the starters had we known. We were offered the bar counter but as a party of 5 celebrating a 70th birthday this was not suitable , we were then offered another table by which point we had decided to pay and leave - why the waiting party could not be seated at the other table offered to us is very confusing to me. I understand restaurants need to turn tables but it should be made clear to the diners and itโs up to the staff to get the food out in the allocated time. We would have easily spent another ยฃ150 on dessert, coffee and appetitive . It was a special occasion and we were splashing out. For a very expensive meal we all left feeling rather crestfallen and badly treated. While the food is outstanding ( albeit incredibly small tapas style portion at main prices ) I donโt think I could ever go back there. The staff made us feel like it was our fault - the waitress actually said youโve been here 2 hours in a very unfriendly tone . I have never been to a restaurant were there was not enough time to spend more money or order dessert and coffee. The whole experience left a bad taste in the mouth
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, shoddy service
We'd been to Lyon's twice before and thoroughly enjoyed the excellent food, albeit at eye-watering prices. Last night we went with friends to celebrate my wife's birthday. It took a long time for a waiter to take our order for starters, took a long time for the starters to come, and then the same with the main course. After two hours, before we could order pudding, we were told that our table was now taken, and if we wanted pudding we'd have to sit on stools by the front window. We indicated that we thought this was outrageous, but the duty manager just shrugged his shoulders. At the kind of prices Lyon's charges, we felt this was completely unacceptable. The management just want to push people through as if it is a fast food joint (though the service was sluggish), so we weren't able to enjoy a relaxed, sociable celebration. I'm afraid once restaurants get themselves a good reputation, then the customer comes very much second.
Be the first to ReplySuperb
In response to some other reviews which have been critical of the prices, in particular for the monk fish, all four of us agreed it was absolutely fabulous and one of the best things we had eaten in a very long time. Everything else we ordered was excellent too. This is a high end restaurant which totally delivers - at a price, but it is value. If you want to treat yourself to a super meal then go. If you are looking for a cheap night out, go elsewhere.
Be the first to Replyยฃ67 for monkfish says it all
They didnt tell us the price of the monkfish so its ultimately our fault. ยฃ39 cheapest bottle of wine c'mon! I am not going to criticise the quality of the food or the service but if this pricing is the antidote to inflation then this restaurant should shut up shop. Not value for money in any ones book.
Be the first to ReplyAnother nice lunch
I just had a few small plates. The crab with vegetables and herbs was a joy. Spring on a plate and in the mouth . Loveliest thing I've eaten for a while. Was disappointed the fixed price menu was not available. I personally found the bread too salty and a tad on the dry side. Nice music, not too loud. Lovely linen napkins!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing and very poor value
Had been very much looking forward to visiting this restaurant due to the excellent reviews, an interesting looking menu and the attraction that it was all within local reach without the need to trek into 'town'. Started with good cocktails and whilst the 'small plate' of bream crudo was delicious I would more likely call it a tiny saucer than any size plate. The Lovage granita was wonderfully refreshing but unlike the bream there was too much of it and the oysters were overwhelmed; as we were overwhelmed by the cost of them! Both Bentleys Oyster bar and the Wolsley charge less for Oysters...... The Halibut was nicely cooked but the sauce was thin and unpleasant. The Celeriac was tasty but not very attractively presented. The potatoes looked pretty but were soggy. The most disappointing element was the wine list had only 2 white wines available under ยฃ40!!! For a neighbourhood restaurant this is extremely disappointing. When the bill came it emerged that I had spent more but eaten less well and drank much less well than on a trip to Bocco di Lupo a few days earlier?!? I will not be visiting again. Looks like the trip into town not only offers better food but much better value for money and there are other local restaurants offering this too.
Be the first to ReplyA fantastic lunch and experience
The experience we had today was amazing. All the dishes were delicious and so beautifully crafted. The service was super friendly and attentive. And we enjoyed the ambience, as it's great food in a relaxed, fun, modern and light environment. It was our first visit but we'll be back! Definitely recommend the monkfish and the Halibut! Don't expect to pay pub prices as the food warrants a lot more than that!
Be the first to ReplyLyons keeps on delivering
Amazing as ever. Food was fresh and exciting. Lots to chose from and everything we had was exceptional. It was lovely to see the restaurant full and filled with atmosphere. Special mention to the brilliant and very funny James who was our waiter this evening.
Be the first to ReplyBeware the monkfish rip off - ยฃ68 for one fish
Our meal ended with a bad taste when we were charged ยฃ68 for a plate of monkfish.
The price at โmarket valueโ was not displayed on the menu, in fact it was the only dish without a price. We foolishly presumed it was in the ยฃ20-30 range like all other main courses.
Further, the dish was enough to feed 3 hungry people. Yet we were just 2.
Our waiter did not mention that we were ordering an excessive amount of food. I canโt imagine why.
I left feeling seriously stung - because I had been!
Wont return or recommend. Like, ever.
Very happy, cannot wait to go back
My third visit here. Food is completely delicious. I was very happy to see that they now have a fixe menu at certain times. ยฃ19 for two courses of cooking at this standard is exceptional value.
Note: the menu is short and portions may be considered small by some (it's not pub grub) but every mouthful is a joy.
Great wine list. Friendly and professional service.
Amazing food and service!
Had a lovely dinner with hubby. Amazing food, really delicious, wonderful wine and very experienced and kind staff. Looking forward to going back!

Amazing, fresh, exciting food presented beautifully. The chef is really extraordinary. Service was good, itโs very noisy but worth it for the lovely food.
