Far exceeded expectations.
.. very memorable meal. Every single app, entree, desert, cocktail and even cappuccino was first rate... Service was exceptional. Visited with a party of 5 and we ordered many dishes to share and without exception everything we tried was fantastic... nothing disappointed. Highly recommended.

Delicious! We three arrived early on a Saturday evening without reservations. Although they were almost filled, John Carlos sat us in a lower level lounge, corner table- jokingly referred to as the "VIP table." Very comfortable. The whole place is very comfortable. We ordered menu cocktails and then an appetizer and three entrees. Each item had its unique taste. Papas bravas are addicting (Careful! Don't fill up!) Then chef sent out an amuse bouche- a taste of soup. Cappalletti- wild mushrooms, pecorino, & egg. The monk fish with mussels & mushrooms in a red sauce so good, I cannot describe it adequately. And lastly, the chicken with a sauce that is also too good to describe. Get co-owner Steven to tell you about the multi-day process to make it. Don't think twice. Madre is one of my favorite NY places to go!

When I tell you I pocketed this menu so fast. From the first bite I could tell I was going to forever want to look longingly at the text on that recycled paper and reminisce on flavors passed. Oyesters. Oisters? Oysters. My favorite dish but also, how do you pick a jewel among treasures?Overall: Big Yum.

This is my 2nd time here and it did not disappoint. Happy hour was an added bonus on top of all the good food. Can't wait to be back when it gets a little warmer again so we can sit outside again.

Be the first to ReplyOur table ordered a variety of the menu.
We all shared and each tasted great. I will say I would certainly come back for the mock tail we ordered, the fluke ceviche (truly all our favorites if we came back and had to order only one dish)- it's a mixture of flavor, and the soufflé. You can't go wrong with anything there but depending on your taste preference you'll certainly feel what speaks to you. We ordered the corn bread Madeline's (comes with four) and we each had one. They're served warm and the butter is divine. Highly recommend that! I'm a huge fan of octopus, though I don't think I would order it again. Ceviche definitely my number one here. The fluke was amazing! Honestly didn't want to share. The octopus was still tasty but it's best for those who like a more BBQ and crispy tentacle. I think a squeeze of lemon would have done the trick for me. The sauces on the plate were delicious. The pork was savory and the sauce sweet. Loved the part of the meat toward the fatty area the best. The stuffed cabbage was a nice addition. The agnolotti was fantastic, I recommend taking a spoon and scooping up the sauce with the ravioli and eating all at once. The flavors are seamless. For desert we tried the pot de creme (veryyyy thick and rich, I personally wouldn't order again but if you love a thick chocolate that's extremely rich, you would like it- for myself I'm used to a more "fluffy" mousse like pot de crème so this was not what I was expecting). The Calamansi sorbet was phenomenal ( I enjoy tart/tangy flavors), definitely a must try.The soufflé was warm and melted in my mouth, the mixture of the ingredients and taste was divine. The chefs know what they're doing!(Read some 1 star reviews: just want to say our experience was great but I do understand how some dishes might undershine others, so order a variety. Market Salad was very simple but it was nice to share and cleanse palette before other dishes arrived. Our group is from Greece, UK, and NY - and we landed here on a whim because I saw an image of the ceviche. I didn't read reviews prior. I usually order ceviche in America and find it quite bland or unthrilling. This place you can't go wrong, it's done differently than anywhere else. I do understand how not enough timely waiting on a table could affect the feel- it did take a bit to get orders going but if you have good company then you'll be ok. Perhaps they just need a bit more staffing- but basing the review on the food- great. We also enjoyed our waiter who was kind and friendly but clearly jumping from different tables. Remember they do their best to do their job, if you need more attendance let them know instead of staying quiet the entire time. )
Be the first to ReplyAfter a second visit I am very let down by the experience.
The service was so bad to the point it affected my opinion heavily. The man who was our server was too busy on his phone at the end of the bar. We had to ask him twice for the glass of wine we ordered and he came back with literally just that...an empty glass. We figured someone else was coming to pour it...no it was just him, and he took his sweet time to come back and pour the glass he took forever to bring to the table in the first place. The most helpful wait staff were the ones not even assigned to us! We even had to wait forever for water, and for our drink orders to made. It wasn't even busy. Every time he neglected our table, we could turn and see him busy texting. I was looking forward to making this a recurring date night spot, but moving forward, I will try elsewhere in the area.

Tonight was mine and my husbands first night living in greenpoint - we were looking for an amazing restaurant in the area and saw that madre had great reviews and a very thoughtful and unique menu. We decided to give it a try and we had the absolute BEST experience - it far exceeded our expectations and was one of the most special dinners we have ever had - thanks to the amazing food and staff. They treated us like family - we met the general manager Giancarlo and the chef who came to our table and introduced themselves. Armando was our waiter who took the time to get to know us and explained all of the ingredients and components of the dishes we were served. We ordered the bravas, market salad, octopus and the pasta dish. We also tried the vegetable soup and the banana soufflé which was incredible, and had a great drink which was the perfect balance of every flavor. 10/10 experience and we will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyI definitely won't be coming back here anytime soon.
I arrived early to my reservation. Being that the hostess table is just outside the restaurant, I took a seat in the hotel lobby. Didn't take long for a few waitresses to gather with the hostess to discuss which guests they liked and didn't like. For the price of the food, you don't get much in terms of quality. There are better Tapas places to go to for much better food. Surprised being rated as a 4 1/2 star restaurant with only 129 reviews seemed suspicious but once I started getting the emails offering discounted tables, the picture starts to become clear. Save your time and money.
Be the first to ReplyMy current favorite restaurant in Greenpoint.
My GF and I always pass by the restaurant and we decided to give it a try last month, and so glad we did. They get relatively busy so I would recommend a reservation. This spot has been consistently good every time I've gotten it, make sure you try this spot ASAP!!!Food:Cornbread Madelines: These are to die for, simply put "a must order". It was pillowy, buttery, and the right texture. Easily an item we think about daily. Papas Bravas: These were good, but nothing amazing. I enjoyed them, so if I was craving potatoes as an appetizer, I would order them, otherwise easy pass. Croquetas: These were simply amazing. The portion was a little small, but it more than makes up for it in flavor. Another great option for your starter. Chicken Liver Mousse: I was surprised I like this one so much. It is definitely like a mousse so keep that in mind when ordering. It does have strong accents of hibiscus. Agnolotti: This is currently my favorite pasta dish in all of NYC so far. What I thought would be a weird mix of flavors, actually blends together to make the best pasta dish. The butternut squash is not overpowering and provides the right texture to complete the dish. The pasta was well cooked. I think about this pasta daily. Kurobuta pork: This was really amazing as well. Its a little small for an entree but makes up for it in flavor. Pot de Crème: If you love chocolate, look no further, this is the perfect dessert. Affogato: Didn't know how I'd feel about crème fraîche gelato, but it was surprisingly really well done. Not sour at all, and mixed perfectly with the espresso. MADRE's Seasonal Souffé: Our Souffé of the month was a grape flavor I believe and even though I'm not big on fruit desserts, the Souffé is too good to pass up on. I would highly highly recommend if you order any one dessert, make this your choice. Dead Beets Bleed Gold: This is my current favorite cocktail. I love mezcal, so if you do as well, this is the drink for you. I'm not a fan of beets but this drink is not overpowering in any one flavor. Atmosphere / Service:The service here was amazing. The interior is super cozy and just feels comfortable.I really really love this restaurant and it stands as my favorite in Greenpoint. I'll definitely be coming back.

I do not frequently give a restaurant 5 starts and such a spectacular review. Madre is unlike any restaurant I have been to recently. My first comment: this place DESERVES A MICHELIN STAR. I do not know if you can nominate a restaurant for a Michelin star.... But I nominate this place. Food 12/10- oysters INCREDIBLE, croquetas so good, Madeline corn bread with honey butter... CHEFS KISS, the chicken ... incredible, Brussels .... Some of the best in NYC. Dessert - YUM- banana soufflé .... 20 min bake time but absolutely DELIGHTFUL!!!! Back to the oysters, star of the show; i have never had a better oyster in my LIFE and I eat a lot of oysters. Service is incredible, ambiance is stunning, crowd is great, music is cool, servers are fun and down to earth but also super professional and caring. The drinks menu is kind of wild- funky drinks; incredible options. It's really a must visit. I kind of want to gatekeeper them so I can continue to get a reservation, but after my conversation with incredible waitress, Celeste, and manager Steven.... This place NEEDS the recognition they deserve. This place deserves a Michelin star. Best eats in all of Brooklyn and arguably all of nyc. I am going to be a Thursday regular from this Thursday onwards. 10000000/10!!!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyHad an absolutely fantastic dinner here on Saturday night.
Service was exceptional and everything was delicious. Not one plate went back with anything still on it. There were six of us so we got to try a ton of different things and I really don't think I could pick a favorite. Off the top of my head, the croquettes, chicken liver mousse, oysters, madeleines, steak (a special), chicken and a soufflé dessert with a black sesame sauce were just ridiculous. Drinks were perfect, service was perfect, and the price was more than fair for what a perfect night it was. Madre will absolutely be our go-to dinner destination for special occasions.

Unbelievably good!! Came with my family, and we were all floored by the food--the fish with tapioca, the wagyu, the croquettes. The service was also impeccable. As we were eating our dish & thinking about ordering more bread, a waiter turned up with more, on the house. Couldn't recommend more!

Be the first to ReplyHEYOOOO MA(DRE)! So.
.. My wife had been talking about going to MADRE for weeks and when we finally made it over I had the same reaction I had as when I moved from Manhattan to Brooklyn... "WTF took me so long to come here..!"If you're someone that loves an explosion of different tastes that keeps you saying "omfg this is so good!" over and over again, this might be your new favorite restaurant... You can'y go wrong w/ anything on the menu, BUT please get the croquetes and have them in 1 bite, don't cut them up. Get one or both of the chicken liver and/or the foie gras (if you're with 3+ get both!).We got the chicken & the pork... Both were insane. We took half of the pork home because we were too stuffed and the pork on day 2 out of the fridge was equally, or maybe even more WOW in the mouth.Get the cornbread madeleines. I may or may not have been eating the whipped honey butter by itself too it was so good.... ;)Lastly my favorite desert was the Chai Creme Brulee. Ask my wife, I'm a creme brulee enthusiast, and this one was BANGIN!YELP only allows for 5 stars as an option, I'd give more if I could...
Be the first to ReplyThere is a lot that goes into food.
I have experienced a lot in life and a great meal goes a long way in satisfying something more than hunger. Chef Noury and the staff at Madre understand this concept. Food can write a story better than written word. Similar to the best moments of my life, you forget the ways to describe and fall in love with enjoyment. Textures and temperatures I was told. Spot on they were. 3 hours of my life to be remembered by the way my heart was inspired to do more. Love more. Enjoy more. Life has a lot to offer. Madre is one of those. Just not one you can afford to miss out. Go to Madre, close your eyes, and open your heart. What an experience. I will be back. And yes, I will tell my grandkids about it.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best restaurant experiences I've had to date.
A true culinary experience. While at first the menu looked small, each and every dish was out of the world unique and delicious. Our server (I wish I remembered his name because he was outstanding- I recall he lives in Queens) was so friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Don't sleep on this place- it's a hidden gem!Our favorite items:Croquettes Market Fish was fresh to death and so uniqueCeviche was delicious Octopus was to die forSides: papas bravas and mushrooms

This was one of the most disappointing meals I've had in as long as I can remember. The review score really shows why reviewers should be screened and chosen the way Zagat used to do it. Where do I start? From the get this meal was gross. The faux gras was overwhelmed with peppercorns, which made it straight up uneatable. The fish was recommended off of the incredibly boring menu and guess what? It was boring. Oh and to put insult to injury it's expensive. This is literally one of the highest rated restaurants in Brooklyn and that is an absolute travesty. The only thing I can think is that people find it trendy or know the owners or chefs like a really bad artsy film that gets great ratings.
Be the first to ReplyWe went to Madre for Valentine's Day and a month later I am
We went to Madre for Valentine's Day and a month later I am still dreaming of this place. Quite simply, it was one of the top five meals of my life. Everything sounded yummy, so as usual I over-ordered. We had croquetas, octopus, carpaccio, foie gras...all outstanding. My brioche toast was hard, but to be fair they warned me to eat it while hot and I was too busy stuffing my face. We had lobster tortellini in a delicious coconut/lime broth so good I drank it out of the bowl. The veal marsala was huge and had all the right mushroom umami goodness. It came with cornbread madeleines and honey butter and was even better for lunch the next day. But I'd say the real stand out was the "raw bar" plate. It wasn't raw at all. Each element was a perfectly composed seafood dish. There was razor clam salad, uni, an oyster, scallop, crudo...and in the center what looked like just a normal tin of caviar. Inside was the caviar and creme fraiche served with tiny homemade English muffins. A little touch like that makes you feel loved by the chef. I would eat this dish every day for the rest of my life. The service overall was wonderful, but the sommelier in particular was incredible. He was very knowledgeable, made perfect pairing recommendations and I could listen to him talk about the history of local wineries for hours. We stayed so long the restaurant had cleared out by the time we got our dessert and so the chef sat with us and flambeed our Baked Alaska right at the table! Just a magical evening. My only complaint is I wish they would put some of those specials on the permanent menu so I can go back and enjoy them again.
Be the first to ReplyHave eaten at Madre twice now for dinner and both times
Have eaten at Madre twice now for dinner and both times have been an amazing dining experience (outdoors and indoors). The service is top notch, and staff is knowledgeable and genuinely excited to present each dish to the table. Some of our favorite dishes and must orders:- Castelvetrano olives with citrus (simple and delicious)- Black truffle croquettes- Fluke Ceviche (unreal flavors)- Whole roasted smoked chicken with salsa verde and spiced jus (YUM)- Charred octopus with green chorizo, mole, romesco and nopales- Spiced foie gras torchon- Banana soufflé - Chocolate pot de creme- All cocktails are great with equally great presentationHonestly, you can't go wrong. Treat yourself and order everything to share. All of the food is delicious and this place is cooking up some truly special food. Not to be missed!!!
Be the first to ReplyThis place is confusing-- no real theme or region.
Some of the food was good, like the croquettes, but they dropped the ball on the fois gras and the ceviche. The tables smelled like bleach, and our waiter wasn't very attentive. Vibes were not very chic. So overall- meh. I don't think it deserves the rating it has.
Be the first to ReplyI would rate Madre four and a half stars.
My wife and I dined in for dinner on a Saturday night. They seated us at the bar. Looked like they still had a handful of tables available but the service at the bar was excellent, so I'd recommend grabbing a seat at the bar if they're available. I started with a glass of a beer from Grimm while my fiancée had one of their signature cocktails. Looked like they had two or three cocktails that most patrons ordered despite a list of about a dozen signatures. They served us a complimentary serving of their soup which had a much of warm flavors. It was quite good and certainly worthy of a full serving. Next we were served the chichiroon which was the most elegant take on cheese puffs. They were so crispy and just the right amount of cheesy. I could eat easily eat $100+ of these. The following item was the croquettes served with a truffle sauce. These were rich and super delicious too. I switched from beer to cocktails with my next beverage by going with the el Sancho which one of their most popular cocktails. It was on the spicy side and quite mezcal forward. After a bit of a wait, our next course was served which was the tortelloni. It was a cheese filled pasta served with mushrooms in what I thought was a chervil broth but was actually thyme. Another savory and rich dish that I could have eaten a ton of. After finishing my cocktail, I finished up with a glass of Real Mineral Pechuaga. It was on the pricey side but the bartender provided a generous pour. It's a triple distilled mezcal in clay pots. It was quite aggressive at 54.3% ABV. Definitely a worthwhile order for mezcal fans. Our next course was the market fish which was black bass. Ot was another nicely balanced dish. The fish had a nice char and was served with perfectly fried skin. However, the portion was quite small. There were only four to five bites of fish for a dish that was priced around $30. Portions were on the smaller side but this was the only dish where the portion size was critically small. I would have preferred to have paid more for a fuller portion. They served us a delicious chocolate / coffee crema for pre-dessert. Super rich and topped with a few bits of salt to balance out the rich and thick cream / moouse. For our main dessert, we shared the soufflé which was ultra light and fluffy. It followed a trend of dishes that o could endlessly eat. The service was superb throughout the night. The restrooms were comfortable and gender neutral. I'm addition to nice beer and spirit options, that also had a good selection of wines by the glass.

3.5/5Brunch review: beautiful restaurant but food didn't live up to expectations Coffee took 40 mins to come out and the order was wrong anyway. But they didn't charge us for itEggs Benedict were disappointing. The poached eggs still had clear egg white so wasn't cooked through. I also didn't like the corn hollandaise. Croquetas were delicious. I'd come back for them.
