Amazing Korean comfort food
This is a great Korean comfort food spot. Highly rated and food here is on point. I stopped by recently with some friends. I made reservations via Yelp and called the restaurant as well to confirm. We ordered everything from the bossam, bulgogi dolsot bibimbap, budae jiggae, mul naengmyeon and the tofu samgyupsal kimchi. The banchan was on point as well. I enjoyed everything that I hate here. The flavors, seasonings, and textures were amazing. The bibimbap crispy rice with fresh vegetables and meats were perfect. The jiggae had plenty of spam, ramen and the broth was really rich. Save some room for the cold noodles as well. Meats were thinly sliced. The addition of some vinegar and mustard added some amazing flavor to the popular comfort dish. Overall, Mahdang had some of the best Korean comfort dishes I've ever had. Portion sizes and prices are reasonable. Between the 6 of us the 5 entrees were perfect. We left stuffed and I'll definitely be back to try their pancake and other soups.

We googled restaurants in the area and stumbled on this place while visiting family in the area. It's a non-descript restaurant with outstanding food and friendly service.

This is a true Korean full-service casual restaurant with traditional Korean home-cooked meals and not just a gimmicky Korean BBQ place or fast casual place. It is located in an industrial area off-the beaten path, but with Google Maps, it is easy to find. Plenty of out-front parking. The restaurant is average for atmosphere (mostly bench-table seating) and not a place for fine dining or a romantic dinner. However, I got take-out. I got an order of the Taeji Bulgogi (spicy marinated thin beef) and Kimchi Jjigae (kimchi stew with pork and tofu, but more like a soup). Both meals came with rice. Both were large portions (each enough for two people), and were flavorful and spicy (as advertised). Prices were good and the meals excellent. If you are interested in good food, this the place for you. (Quality=4, Service/Timeliness=5, Atmosphere=3, Value=5)

Not like the Americanized, sweet Korean food found in some area restaurants (Honey Pig, I'm looking at you).

Had food delivered via Door Dash.I paid $9 for those 2 shrimp in the picture. That is ridiculous. We got3 side dishes, 2 were ok, but the kimchi was soggy and old. Kimchi should be the pride of any Koreans restaurant and this was disappointing. Main course was pork bulgogi which was acceptable except they failed to cut the meat so as to easily eaten.

I am likely one of the pickiest Americans around when it comes to Korean food. There are dozens and dozens to choose from in the Washington DC Metro area but you'll only find me eating a handful of them. Mahdang is in that handful. There's nothing special about the ambiance .... they've built little wooden screens to help separate tables so while you can't see your neighbor slurping his noodles or picking his teeth you can still hear it :) . So what's good there? Some of the things from their menu that I'd recommend: Bibim Nanbmyeon, Yookaejung, Definitely Duckbokie, Mandu Guk, Duck Mandu Guk, Soondubujigae, Maeuntang, Taegu Jiri, and Dolsot Bibimbop. Geez, that might be the entire menu. All with just the right flavor, level of spice, and portion. ...and easy on your wallet.
