Superior service.
Staff is as elegant as the restaurant. I'm a bit concerned about their hiring practices because everyone I encountered today was so good looking. Shown to my table by Cherone (sp?) who looks like she just stepped out of a glamorous magazine. Server Brandon was amazing. I ordered an off menu margarita that was a bit weak. I told Brandon and he remedied the situation. Ordered the crab meatballs with pasta. Meatballs were delicious. Pasta was a bit too Al Dente for me. Tiramisu was really good. Didn't really get the espresso hit I was looking for, but still good.

I never came here for dinner so I am only speaking on their brunch. The place is pretty big, they have booth sets and table seats. They have a bar you can sit and hang out at with TVs. The aesthetics of this place is cute, it has a warm and cozy feel. The almond croissant and ricotta pancake got my attention the most, oh i can't forget the banana bread - highly recommend getting. I know they're all sugary sweets, but its SO GOOD. (I have a strong sweet tooth - ha). Every dish was flavorful - I got the branzino which wasn't heavy at all so don't worry about being overly stuffed! I'd come back and try their other items.
Be the first to ReplyCame here on a Sunday night for an impromptu dinner.
Had to reserve on resy which I really don't prefer but whatever. Dirty bathroom. Now for all the good stuff:Started with the focaccia and ricotta- delicious! Very creamy with lemony overtones. The kale insalata was equally delicious. The anchovies were ground in to add depth of flavor. There was a crunchy texture. The leaves were freshThe clams and linguini was perfect. Adente. Rich. Fresh clams. Branzino was also very fresh skin was crispy. Flavor good. Fresh smell.Dessert was ok- not enough flavor. I would not get that again. They had a separate Sunday dinner menu that smelled awesome but I can make that at home ;)

I visited the restaurant when I stayed at Thompson washington DC. This restaurant is equipped with professional staffs and charming interiors. I really enjoyed the brunch on weekend and their steak and crab meatball pasta were really good.

When we first tried Maialino it was near the height of Covid. We loved the food - which was outstanding - and gave them a pass on service, which was friendly but horrible. I would have expected by now, the problems would have been worked out... not so.True to form, dinner at Maialino gave us a split experience: outstanding cuisine (mostly), but seriously lacking service. First the food:The drinks (an Aperol Spritz and a Roman Holiday) where both excellent, as was the focaccia and whipped ricotta dip. The octopus appetizer, flavorful and tender. My wife's bolognese paperdelle and my own spaghettini with cockles, both well prepared and delicious. My wife loves tiramisu - unfortunately, the tiramisu was sadly disappointing (basically whipped cream on a soggy cookie). My afagoto was perfect, though. So insofar as the meal was concerned we enjoyed the food immensely.Unfortunately the service is still awful. Our server started out slow, making us wait about 10 minutes before he showed up with our menus. From there it was downhill. We ordered everything at once. The focaccia arrived, and we asked for butter. While waiting I went to the restroom and noticed our drinks waiting (the ice melting) at the bar. When I returned from the restroom they where still sitting there so I asked the bartender if I could take them to our table - he said no, "your server will bring them." I returned to the table... still no butter. We started in in the focaccia. Eventually our server showed up with the drinks, and said he had forgotten about the butter. He did bring it shortly, but there was only one slice of focaccia left by then. The other courses arrived, pretty slowly - plenty of time in between each item, too much. Our server only checked on us once. He never asked if we would like another drink (I might have, but since he didn't show until we where done, opportunity lost). When we ordered dessert he took my wife's order and then left without taking mine (I called him back). He said the tiramisu was "excellent," but later when we told him it wasn't, he admitted that "a bunch of other people" had said the same thing. And finally, at just about 9:00pm we managed to catch his eye and ask for the check. 15 minutes later he shows up with the card reader and says he "forgot about us." I needed some change, so it took another 15 minutes... we finally walked out at 9:32.So - begrudgingly, 3 stars. The food is very good. If we had been more pressed for time I might be inclined toward 2 stars. But be prepared to spend 2-3 hours, and don't expect attentive service.
Be the first to ReplyServer and ambiance were decent.
Paloma style cocktail was good. It seems like this restaurant could be seriously improved with a new chef. Octopus was overcooked and therefore rubbery; both pasta dishes were just...okay. Wasn't bad, ย but it wasn't good. Definitely not worth the cost. You could get twice the amount of drink and food ย with much better quality at Caruso's in NE.
Be the first to ReplyFood was OK.
While there was a Delicious prosciutto-wrapped trout dish the linguini with calm pasta (my barometer for Italian cooking) was just Ok. There was an uninspired foccia with whipped ricotta. Couldn't tell you about dessert because when we finished our meal (after waiting we'll over an hour for any food to arrive) the waiter dropped our check while asking if we wanted anything else. The wait staff while polite and trying to do their best, seemed completely untrained. 15 minutes before water and menus arrived and multiple reminders about drinks. Yeah I know good help is hard to find but this was about training. Lots of staff on an off night. Unusual for a Danny Meyers restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyYes! Everything about this place is amazing.
I walked in to amazing friendly host who also gave me some recommendations for after dinner spots. As a solo travel I deeply appreciated it.The atmosphere was warm and cozy and the place alone made me excited for the meal and wine to come. My waiter was so attentive and walk me through the menu and all the flavors to find the perfect dish and wine for me to have. Now the Foood: the Bucatini all'amatrcina was fresh and yummy. I got my got to wine Moscato d' Asti which is great and sweet. And also got a glass of red that was bitter but paired good with the red sauce. The bread and cheese was also a great topper. I was nicely filled. Olive oil cake! I know I was unsure but I trusted my server and it was actually pretty tasty when paired with the cream on the side. It was a great way to end a delicious meal
Be the first to ReplyI have been in the area for a while, but only recently
I have been in the area for a while, but only recently decided to stop in and try out their breakfast. I was up early, and was the first person in the place, which quickly had multiple tables taken after the first 10 minutes. The service was awesome, from the friendly hostess meeting me at the door to the quality recommendations for food and drinks by the bartender. My server was quick to let me know what specials were available and helped me select a delicious breakfast. The coffee kept flowing. I also love the lighting and ceiling height. Had a very relaxed, yet clean and well designed feel. Will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyThis was a rough one.
I didn't know what rating to give, a 2.5 or a low 3. Went here for brunch and the place is very cute and the service is outstanding. We had Joe as our server and he was very sweet. The trouble comes with the food and the length of time to have brunch. If you don't have 2 hours to just burn time, don't go. We had a very simple brunch while it wasn't that busy and it took just under two hours. We were VERY over it come an hour and a half. It started when the croissants took 30 mins to come out and they were even warm... what were they doing for 30 mins?? Just put them on a plate and bring them over, especially when your guests says they are starving. The second big issue is the flavors of the main dishes. The croissants were ok, the steak dish was very oily and their "star" dish the pasta and clams was very very bland. No flavor. It tasted the clam water and that's it. I recommend some garlic, red pepper flakes, even just some fresh lemon juice. Lemon would have brought a brightness. The star dish was the eggs with brussels and roasted butternut squash. Would get that again. But no rush to go back.
Be the first to ReplyIt wasn't good, it wasn't bad- it just was? The ambiance
It wasn't good, it wasn't bad- it just was? The ambiance inside the restaurant is simple, airy but felt a bit generic. I can't remember it and it hasn't even been 12 hours since I left. The servers are smartly dressed and are attentive without being intrusive. But nothing exemplary. This used to be a no tipping restaurant which is why they justified prices being high. But now you have to tip, and the prices are still high which I'm side eying the restaurant for as the quality of the food or experience doesn't justify essentially increasing prices by 20%. There is much better italian food elsewhere in DC that is a better value.Onto the food, I had the radicchio antipasti, now I know radicchio has a bitter edge but figured balancing it with arugula and reggiano cheese and walnuts would make it pleasant. It didn't, a few of us ordered this and couldn't finish it because the bitterness was unchecked. This could be our fault for assuming, but putting it in here in case others were considering ordering it. I had vegetarian ravioli which was fine, I enjoyed the butternut squash and the portion size was good but nothing show stopping. I think my favorite dish was the tiramisu and it's the only thing I'd come back for. It was perfectly done, huge portion, and well presented. Would I come back or recommend it? Only if you are in the area and want dessert andwine.

Brunch at Maialino Mare was divine! I went with a friend and we both enjoyed some brunch cocktails along with a few shareable plates. Both the food and atmosphere were perfect. Favorite food was the burrata for sure. And loveeeee the interior!
Be the first to ReplyOverall, a so-so experience.
Service was great, but food was hit-or-miss. Nothing wowed me (besides the tiramisu), and the portions are pretty minimal for the price.Skip:- Polpo con patate (octopus and potatoes). Octopus was pretty salty and chewy, and the potato was cooked unevenly.- "Crispy" Brussel sprouts. They were burnt, so all I could taste was char.Get:- Tiramisu. The structural integrity was shaky, but overall delicious! Devoured in less than a minute.- Roman holiday. Very sweet (be warned) but was quite refreshing.- Pappardelle alla bolognese. Really flavorful.Service was a bright spot though! Felt like we could be honest with the server and she did her best to fix the issues.
Be the first to ReplyWe sat in the bar area for drinks and dessert.
My boyfriend enjoyed his cocktail, and we both loved the ambiance of the low lights and booth seating. The tiramisu was lovely - the whipped cream was so light and perfectly balanced with the espresso soaked cookies. Plenty of menu food items looked yummy, albeit expensive, but we just weren't hungry enough to order them. Perhaps we'll come back for a splurge dinner.I took off a star because I had two club sodas with lime, which were charged 2x$5=$10. I should have just gotten a cocktail!

Extra points for very good gluten free pasta! This was one of those nice dining experiences we kept talking about well after the fact. Everyone involved in our dining experience was remarkably kind and professional. Host, manager, somm, server, thank you all for creating such a lovely evening for us. I love the decor, seating, and menu selection. It is authentic and comfortably elegant. The polpo con patate (octopus) appetizer is oh my goodness, so delicious. A really nice crisp and smoky succulent flavor, cooked well for a soft texture reminiscent of good marbling. The bucatini all'amatriciana is to die for. I like that the guanciale was cubed, then pan seared or possibly friend into crispy juicy morsels. The sauce was very decadent. We ordered a grignolino from piedmont that went well with a buttered shrimp pasta and stood up to a spicy red sauce. Dry, light body, red fruits, soft tannin, and a fresh, well rounded acidity (bright, not sour). Unimposing and a very tasty compliment to the meal.We came in around 9pm and they had a table available for us. Wine came right before the appetizer. Had one bite of appetizer left when the meal came out. Our water glasses were refreshed throughout the night. Just a really perfectly paced evening. That takes a team effort! We got the primi and both had a bit of leftovers to take home. Yum. Can't wait to come back.

Response update: Maialino your response perfectly highlights the restaurant's morals and ethics. Instead of offering for refund on a charge made in error by your employee you continue with excuses, and refer me to website. Great job, clearly customer care is not a concern to your establishment at all. I understand you guys have bigger issues to worry about, LIKE THE GIANT RATS BIG AS POSSUMS running around that block ! ย f' this place
