A Real Treat
We had a great dinner here. My wife said the flavor of her pasta dish was about the best she has ever had. My braised suckling pig was outstanding. The zucchini side order had a tasty mix of flavors. Recommend all three dishes. Service was excellent. Wine list pricey.

Was excited to visit Maialino after not dining there for several years. This was at a new location. Remembered many enjoyable years at the Gramercy Park Hotel. However, this new location and ambiance doesn’t quite match in the menu selection, level of service or special surroundings we enjoyed before. Although glad we visited, it’s time to move on…sadly.
Be the first to ReplyRoman style Italian in Murray Hill
Maialino (vicino) is a version of the original Maialino in the Gramercy Park Hotel. Lovely Italian Roman food. Great service in the Danny Meyer tradition. Menu is small, but each dish was filled with flavor. Location is on 30th street just off Fifth Ave. Easy walk from MSG or Midtown. Bus and train options. Mid priced around $100 per person.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic Italian fine dining in a relaxed setting
The restaurant is cute, stylish, authentic and the food os fantastic. The service is great and while it is more fine dining with the price tag, its like fine dining in Italy, relaxed and not pretentious. Brunch here is also great the the coffee is probably my fav in the city.
Be the first to ReplyWe went to this very well
We went to this very well reviewed restaurant for brunch and were seriously disappointed. I most say the bread and pastries were great, even the gluten free bread was good, but everything else was substandard. The egg white frittata was dry and bland, the cacio pepe pasta was tasteless and the bolognese was just ok. I don’t know if they were just having an off day , but at this price point it is unacceptable. The service was nice.

We dined at Maialino with friends and really enjoyed the experience. The food was excellent and the service was spot on.

Ive been here several times and have not been disappointed, but i took my IFS for her first visit and it was extraordinary. The staff are classically well trained in the Danny Meyer tradition. Great service, friendly and attentive to your every need.
Phenomenal Italian wine list with great selections from $50 and up...and up! Their wine program is second to none.
We shared the prosciutto and mozzarella - the meat was nutty and salty, moist and bursting its flavor. I had the spaghetti carbonara which was pale licking(ok, i used bread) delicious.
My wife had he Casio e pepe, perfectly done. I had the signature dish, Maialino Il forno. Not only delicious, but Fred Flintstone sized! I laughed hen our waitress offered us dessert - we were so stuffed
Very high quality
Really enjoyed our dinner here with colleagues. While the service was a little slow it was made better by good conversation and really high quality food.

I was so impressed by this restaurant. Old friends made the reservation and I had no expectations. We ate family style and everything was superb. Between five of us we had 2 salads a couple of appetizers, 2 pastas and a larger order of the Maialino (suckling pig). Considering the name of the restaurant, it was no surprise that the eponymous dish was the standout, but everything was basically the equal. I LOVED the artichokes. The pastas were all amazing. There was a generous amount of pig left over, they said it served 3-4, but I'd say 6 easily.
ALSO THE BREAD! (I live in California, where we just don't get bread that good very often)
My only negative thought is that this is a big and loud restaurant, not great for talking across a table
SO FORTUNATE TO LIVE JUST BLOCKS AWAY FROM MAIALINO!
Danny Meyer restaurants are known for their hospitality, but Maialino this evening was OH WOW!!!!
Maialino is one of our favorite “go-to” neighborhood restaurants. I must have been there a total of 50 times since I bought an apartment as my secondary residence in Gramercy. It is consistently good. But for some reason, probably because when we arrived the restaurant was not at all busy, this time we really got the royal treatment. Generally as a walk-in with no reservation, we are seated in the café/bar side, which is perfectly fine. But this time we were glad to be seated in the main dining room just to mix it up a bit!
Upon entering we were greeted warmly and thanked for coming in. Hazel asked if we wanted to check our coats. She did that with warmth and grace. She had such a pleasant demeanor !
We were soon whisked in to the main dining room. I recognized Yalena, the dining room manager from a distance who rushed over toward our table. She insisted on pourOmg is each a glass of Rose champagne to ring in the New Year. We are not big champagne drinkers but her choice was absolutely delicious. So much so I had another glass with my meal! We talked at length about foreign languages and discovered that she and I had a lot in common and spoke many of the same ones. There was a real connection there. Yalena has a very special gift. She really knows how to connect with others and make them feel special. Her position as Dining Room Manager is an excellent “ FIT” for this very young lady! She poured us a glass of bubbly rose, and soon after, a very attentive James arrived with the cocktails we had ordered previously. Soon after Yalena returned with a beautiful dish of warm lightly fried carciofini. Molto Delizioso!!!
The rest of the event went like clockwork. James did not miss an opportunity to inquire about our experience and make sure everything was to our liking. He was at our beck and call and was more than attentive!
On our way out, Elizabeth rushed to get our coats without being asked. She was lovely personable and warm.
Yet another great and memorable evening at our “go-to” MAIALINO! We are so fortunate!
great food, service
we ate here for brunch and dinner and would absolutely come back. It is a hidden gem in the city. Tips are priced in, which is nice, and there is plenty of great options on the menu for everyone.
Be the first to ReplyHeavily overpriced, but the food and service were decent
This place is set up like your typical European bierstube, unpretentious and with very tight spaces (tiny tables with minimum space around them) plus a high-chair counter for about 10 people and a bar. The dissonance comes from the fact that the restaurant serves mainly Italian cuisine.
The choice of beer is not extensive, but provides a good variety. Paying $22 for a beer doesn't sit well with the bierstube style, though. The food choices are also decent. The service was good.
All in all, if you don't care much about money, you can have a decent meal or a great night out here.
Excellent Server Joe
We booked for brunch but looked at the menu and wanted their pasta. We arrived at 11 and they don’t serve pasta until noon. Joe, our server was most accommodating. We nursed some apps and then had one dish with suckling pig and another with clams. Both were fantastic. Wine pairing was spot on, again at Joe’s suggestion.
