Maison Charleston Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing French food served by an amazing staff.
Ambiance is perfect. I love how it's off the beaten path. Locals spot with many regulars. They made our 10 year wedding anniversary special. Monk fish was to die for! See yall again soon!
Ate at Maison last night.
One of my new favorite restaurants in Charleston! The food and service are outstanding! Try the onion soup croquettes, escargots, pate, crispy flounder, and definitely save room for all 3 desserts!! This place is small and unpretentious and is hidden in northern Charleston so tends to be overlooked but don't count it out.
This restaurant was absolutely delicious! I love that it
This restaurant was absolutely delicious! I love that it was a smaller place because we were able to actually hear each other at the table compared to other more busy and larger restaurants in the area. The ambience was perfect for our bachelorette group. I was talking about how delicious the flounder was for several days afterwards I highly recommend it.
this review is solely based on the food not the service
this review is solely based on the food not the service which was excellent. escargot: 5 stars steak and frites: 2 flavor of the steak sauce was good but the steak that looked like a filet mignon was anything but. It was a very low grade steak to look like a filet. the steak was also undercooked and the fries were overcooked with to much salt. scallops: 1 there is no way what i was served was scallops. They looked and tasted nothing like scallops and the watery broth they were in had an off putting taste and was the furthest thing from a french sauce more like a bad thai broth flounder: 3 the fish was great but again the sauce wasn't french it was a curry cream sauce to sum it up this restaurant is all over the place that misses the mark. wish them the best but will not be back

we had dinner at Maison this evening and everything from the service from our waitress Ali, the cocktails the appetizers the main course and the desserts was absolutely fabulous. The French onion soup croquette was incredible. The chicken rice main course that I had was perfection and the chocolate mousse dessert and the made to order Madeline's were unbelievable. Highly highly recommend Maison in Charleston, South Carolina.
Fresh, delicious, creative food and excellent service.
Made with love. We had clams and monk fish. Wonderful and cozy spot.
Four for dinner
Maison is a laid back fun place to dine. The food is great and the service is too! I loved the escargot and my wife loved the mushroom tart. We all enjoyed our main courses. The cocktails were good and the wine list is excellent. I say give it a try if you’re in Charleston.
Excellent French restaurant off upper King Street! My party
Excellent French restaurant off upper King Street! My party arrived around 6pm on a Wednesday night. There are 5 or 6 reserved parking spots in the parking lot right by the restaurant (plenty of street parking close by if these spots are full). Wednesday night is burger night so I ordered the burger with a side of fries (served with a side of aioli). Both were excellent and I highly recommend! I believe they only have a certain amount of burgers on Wednesday night so make sure you get there early enough to get one!

Let's just say the first part of the evening here was on point - wonderful attentive service, delicious crisp French wine, all enjoyed in a charming atmosphere. It was early in the evening, so Maison was not yet full, but as we talked over drinks and perused the menu, tables started filling up and that was when the trouble began. Service was beginning to falter. Our appetizers including the escargot and the onion soup croquette were served promptly, but no one ever came back to inquire if everything was to our liking. The plump buttery, garlicky escargot were nicely prepared and plated. The croquette was bitter as it stayed too long in the fryer. When someone finally came to clear our appetizer plates, a young lady (not our server), asked if I was finished and I said yes because I didn't care for the burnt exterior. No reaction. Nada. Took the plate and left. Wouldn't the kitchen want to know why a patron barely touched a dish? By now the small space was a buzz with diners so individual attention from servers was waning. While waiting for our entrees, we decided we wouldn't be ordering desserts as planned, because by this time our cheery disposition was turning sour. Steak frites is such a classic French Bistro offering, yet this one didn't quite hit its mark. My husband was surprised to find the beef looked like a small filet mignon, not usually the visual you expect when ordering this dish, (from our experience anyway while dining and enjoying this meal in Paris and beyond). But hey taste mattered more. Well, the thicker cut resulted in a bigger chew, as it may have been shaped like a beef tenderloin but Maison's steak did not have the tenderness that this cut has. Fries were crispy and flavorful. The Diver scallops were quite small but so robust in flavor. Unfortunately the supporting cast of parisian gnocchi, broccolini, and delicato squash (all things I love), we're just meh. Now my taste buds may have been off just a tad, so maybe I wasn't able to detect the delicate flavors because I still had lingering effects from a cold. I hope this was the case, as we really wanted to love this place. We absolutely place no blame on our server that evening for our declining service. He was over extended, running around trying to cater to all of his guests. Maybe the whole experience was a one off. But there are too many restaurants in Charleston we still want to visit so for now Maison will be off our list.
The food is unique and always delicious.
The service is excellent and friendly but not intrusive. And it's lovely to be there.

Never disappoints! The food is always delicious, the service is outstanding, and the ambiance is calm and inviting. The outdoor patio is great too. Highly recommend: Pate de Campagne, Rabbit en Croute, and Salade Verte.
I would give it 4.
5 maybe go up to a 5 when we go back because we will. I have heard a lot about Maison and we were lucky to go on a wednesday which i knew was their burger night. We say at the bar - the bartender was fantastic - engaging, welcoming, explained each dish perfectly and gave us a lot of history of the restaurant. The burger was great - I had the tartare which i loved too. Not pictured are the escargot. My only gripe was i wish the burger would have come with pommes frites (which we did order and were terrific). Again, we will come back! Their outside patio is dog friendly with heaters during the winter. I like that the patio is private and not just a table with chairs on the sidewalk.

We were excited to try dinner after making a reservation at Maison. We were greeted promptly at the door and seated immediately. . We were seated in a booth near the door. There really is not a lot of space to get comfortable. The booth is a great idea. However, if you're carrying extra poundage, it's going to be a very tight squeeze. I found it to be a little uncomfortable. Our meal was beautiful, our waiter was fantastic. He made us feel comfortable, and he was very knowledgeable about the food and it's preparation along with the extensive wine list. He was very attentive, and checked on us frequently. The four-star review is for the tight, squeeze both at the table and on our wallets. I felt the meal was over priced as were the wines. Other than that we had a great night.
Beautiful evening at Maison! From the movement we walked in
Beautiful evening at Maison! From the movement we walked in to the moment we walked out, every detail was meticulously thought out. The decor is lovely throughout. I look forward to dining on the patio next time! Looking for a tasty cocktail, try the G-Love! It is a mix of tequila, aperol, grapefuit.. Delightful way to start the meal. After reading reviews of the french soup croquette I couldn't pass it up! YUM! It is soup in a crusty filling! I've heard they only make a certain amount so be sure to get your order in for one! For my entree, I went with the chicken cordon bleu. It was a perfect dish to follow the croquette. The best part was each little bite of chicken with the leeks, oyster mushrooms, and Dijon jus. It seemed fitting as the weather is getting cooler! Another dish we had was the steamed flounder. Don't be turned off by the "steamed" description as it was also a superb dish! Served with delicata squash and Swiss chard. Great flavors for Fall. To finish the meal, we split a few desserts. The almond crème caramel and the fresh madeleines. Both were amazing! I love that the madeleines come out warm! Just perfect! Thank you for a fantastic evening.
Another great Charleston restaurant.
We arrived nearly an hour before our reservation and they seated us right away. Our server was great -- everything you can expect from exceptional service. He had great menu recommendations that he didn't push, paired great wine on his own, was attentive, brought out the dishes at appropriate times, etc. And, of course, the food was just perfect. Best monkfish I've ever had. Yes, it was kinda pricey but very worth it.
