This place is a staple and never disappoints.
I went for dinner. We didn't have a reservation so had to sit at bar. It gets pretty pack but nice atmosphere. Reservation highly recommended. Everything was delicious. The fish was my favorite. Very fresh

Makoto exceeded my expectations.
I heard so many great things and wanted to try it myself. The service was great. The servers were attentive and helpful. When asking for drink recommendations, the server had options ready to recommend. My favorite items were the rainbow roll, crispy dumplings, and wagyu fried rice. I will definitely go back when I'm back in town.

Great service, food is always on point.

The worst possible food ever
So we finally made reservations to this place! I donāt get it why itās so difficult to even make the reservations to this place??? We came in at 6pm the place was 1/2 empty! The service was fine, canāt complain. However, the food⦠itās CRAP! Omg! Itās not even mediocre. Itās just simply boring and NOT GOOD AT ALL! How are they still open? We were so disappointed! Expensive-yes, but for what? They need to fire their chefs, lol Iām from NY, I travel a lot. Am I spoiled, maybe . But Iād take any little tiny restaurant in Peru at the gas station over this expensive unworthy overrated joint.

Always consistently delivers regardless of time of year or sat I would get the makoto salad and the Branzino but everything I've ordered from this place is always good I always make a trip here every time I'm in town and dine here just to eat and not shop

Now disclaimer, I haven't been since they have updated the location though I hear it's still amazing even better actually; however I went when they were first opened. Very good food & the ambiance was great. Outside was a vibe during lunch time and the drinks were also pretty good. I will deff be going back for another lunch date or maybe trying their dinner menu

Cool spot to hang if you are visiting Bal Harbor Shops.
Stopped at the outside bar to have a drink. Had a sample 3oz pour of Sake. A bit on the expensive side but that's expected in this area. The bar service was good and the place was busy. The menu has some interesting items that I would like to try on a future return.

Unfortunately it's not just the location that has gone downhill since they moved to the 3rd floor. Service is clueless. We received two menus with 20% price difference. When I pointed this out to the wait staff they looked at us, as if "does it matter?" and informed us the higher prices were correct (surprise). Edamame tasted like it was steamed using last night's used dish water. Fish in the chirashi was tasteless. Salmon eggs were slimy and tasted off. Tourist trap. Avoid.

Had another great meal here.
The fish quality is excellent. The tuna pizza and eggplant robata are standouts but everything was delicious.

Always delicious great sushi and lovely cocktails.
Great place to enjoy food and people watch!

Food is good and fresh.
Place is a little too loud for me. Service was great( our server wasn't informative and helpful at all) and would expect better for the price. Overall, not bad experience.

This place is amazing! I've been at restos in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, New Orleans I rate Makoto as # one du monde! We had a small steak on a Japanese table grill. 2 tempura appetizers: pepper and corn. This is the # one restaurant in the world! A steak and 3 appetizers came out to $104. Worth every penny.

Amazing place to try!!We've been to the restaurant as part of our trip to Miami for a weekend and I decided to try this place due to a lot of recommendations found online on different magazines. We eat sushi almost every day so we wanted to try a place that claims to import majority of the fish and wagyu from Japan to be able to have an authentic experience.Brian was our server and he was amazing! He gave us the best recommendations and made sure the food selection would come out in the perfect order to maximize the flavor experience for it to compliment each dish!We went there for lunch, the restaurant is on the upper floors at the bel harbor mall.I would definitely recommend the outdoor seating for lunch, especially if you come during the weekend. We had the- Corn, Japanese eggplant and wagyu short rib from the robata Japanese grill section. For appetizers- sunomono salad and spicy tuna crispy riceWagyu beef hot stone and ginger lamb chop- from the fish and meat selection Highly recommend all the dishes!!! If you get to be served by Brian you're in luck, but overall all the servers was really nice and accommodating.
Sushi is quite good. I understand that they fly fish from Tokyo 3 times a week. Nice cool ambiance. Particular server in charge of our table was not good. Impersonal service, not prompt. This needs to be addressed as service is part of the overall experience.

Extremely salty food
Disappointed. The Frosty Wagyu Fried Rice , edamame, Braised Beef Yaki Noodle were extremely salty, almost inedible. Service great, food average.

Best sushi of my life

The most amazing sushi and food - top 10 restaurants I have ever eaten at for sure! Our waitress was a little rude at first, but suddenly became nice when we told her it was our first time there. Very fun ambiance. There were only two of us without a reservation. We put our name in and were told it would be an hour and a half wait. Turns out they called us 25 minutes later and a table at the sushi bar was ready.

Stick to Carpaccio⦠this place is not worth the hype anymore!
Donāt waste your time. Restaurant was half empty and were made to sit at counter. Food was EXTREMELY SLOW, waited over 45 minutes for 2 bento boxes. When it arrived it was tasteless and seemed very poor quality. When it was on ground level it used to be one of my favourites. Will not be returning as food was inedible and totally disgusting! The last photo shows how much I ate and what I left. I was super hungry and it still was not worth it!

4.5 stars, I had the Tuna Crispy Rice, Waygu Short Ribs, and house salad. While the food was extremly tasty, I ended up needing to eat again later that evening. This reminded me more of tapas than actual dinner but I would definitely visit again.

Wow! Super classy, must make reservations ahead
This place is busy, so needs reservations (5 days or so during December). Very good food ambience and service. Perfect for any occasion really. friends, business, familly.

Outstanding food at a price(!)
Four of us had dinner here midweek. It was particularly busy but as walk-ins we were able to get a table outside. We ordered a mix of appetizers and sushi dishes with the tuna/crispy rice and the brussels sprouts particulalry good. With a drink each it still worked out at over $100 per head excluding service. Still well worth it but not somewhere you'd necessarily eat at every week, unless you can afford to!

I totally understand why I can never get a reservation here.
The new location is fresh & trendy. The service is friendly & attentive. The food is spectacular. How can you go wrong!Every dish was masterfully prepared & tasted fresh. The server was knowledgable & not pushy. We were not rushed through dinner & all really enjoyed ourselves.

Best restaurant in Miami hands down.
Spectacular food, always consistent, never disappointing. Try the Makoto salad, Wagyu short rib, eggplant robata, everything is amazing.

Went there today to try to book a table for next week for a party of 9 for dinner. I thought I had booked it on open table but didn't get a confirmation. Had an extremely unpleasant experience. No one seemed approachable so I walked into the dining room to have a look around. It was around noon so was pretty empty and had just opened for the day. I noticed a very strong odor of fish indoors which I chose to ignore. I then spoke to a very disinterested server who refused to allow me to speak to the manager. He referred me to a very rude hostess who looked me up on open table and told me that I had not recently booked . So I asked her to reserve a table for me and she said that was not possible as the policy is to just show up and they could seat us as we wanted a very early reservation (6pm) and they were not busy at that hour. I tried in vain to explain that I was not comfortable doing that as people were coming from a distance and I wanted a definite reservation. She ended up shouting at me to repeat that it was not possible. I just looked at her in disbelief and left. I would never eat in a place with such an uncaring and badly trained staff.

Makoto has amazing Japanese food.
The best in the area, in my opinion. What's even better, is that they have excellent service, and you can't find very good waitstaff anywhere easily in this area. Great food plus great service equals a great experience.
