Excellent Spanish seafood place
Some outstanding dishes on a rather small but tasty. Menu Their fish encrusted in salt was wonderful as was their squid with stuffed sausage in them. An outstanding atypical rice pudding finished the meal.

MAR is a nice break from the stand-up tapas choices in the Mercado Little Spain at Hudson Yards. The staff was attentive and the space is roomy and well appointed. The oysters were very nice and the stew and soup were excellent.

If you haven't experienced Jose Andres (and we have been to MANY of his restaurants), expect to be captivated and seduced. It is pricey so if you are penny pinching, stay away. Lovely wines, Brandon is one of my favorite servers. Try the squid croquettes (and no they aren't burned, they are black because of the squid ink!) and try their $85 tasting menu. I'm still basking in the after glow of a magnificent meal!
In the little Spain market within the Hudson Yard complex a taste of Spain
The market area (covered) is an example of fast Spanish food, Mar is a more traditional Spanish restaurant within the area. The location is informal but nice and clean. Service is quick. The selection of dishes includes most typical Spanish and is well presented and tasty, the size are small but sufficient. Prices are ok

While this place is known as a tapas restaurant, they gave new meaning to the term "small plates" The portion sizes here were tiny but the prices were not. In addition, the menu was quite small with very few dishes to choose from.
That being said, the wait staff was excellent and very attentive. The squid ink croquettes which was a special for the next was delicious. The rest of the food was good but definitely not worth the price. The drinks were also pricey and loaded with ice.
Perfect Experience
Mar is in a quieter zone of Mercado Little Spain in the downstairs area. We were a party of 5, out on the town after a visit to The Vessel in Hudson Yards. Everything was luscious - from oyster appetizers, to shrimp tapas, to a unique paella dish. And finishing with crunchy cream puffs, vanilla ice cream, topped by warm chocolate sauce.

Josรฉ Andrรฉs is one of the top chefs (as well as being a great humanitarian), not just here in the States, but in the world. The Mercado Little Spain in the Hudson Yards is his (along with world-famous chefs and friends, Ferran and Albert Adriร ) attempt to bring the flavors of Spain to New York. Besides all the markets and counters where one can shop and/or eat, there are three restaurants here. MAR is one of them, and it's well worth the trip to Hudson Yards. This place is excellent!
Here you can find not only classic Spanish tapas, as well as larger dishes, but dishes that are uniquely Chef Andรฉs' or Chef Adriร 's -- tapas in a much more modern style, some involving molecular gastronomy, others with a simple yet playful twist on tradition.
Simply put: go!
Did not honor reservation.
We arrived a little early for 8:30 reservation with out of town guests. By 9:10 pm we had still not been seated, and had to find another place to eat. This is not acceptable service.

Mar is in Hudson Yards. The whole place is amazing but we really liked Mar. The while asparagus dish was superb. We tried 2 tapas, the fried fish and the sautรฉed shrimp/.Both were very good. They had a very light but tasty beer which 3 of us enjoyed. The atmosphere is noisy but pleasant. It is party time. Service excellent.

Dinned last night with my family at the new Stae-of-the-Art concept of Chef Jose, Mar at little spain. I made a mistake and did the reservation for another day. However, the hostess and the manager where super kind and tried their best to find us a table. We wait (it was worth it) since we where a Walk-in. Reason why, I suggest to do a reservation.
We sat at the counter top to admire the talented chefs do their magic. Beautiful plates are stacked nicely and focused team of talented individuals performed a silent show, of incredible and professional moves and cuts, in the mist of continuos flow of guests. Now food: the crudos where amazing, the endives, where fresh and delicious; the rice with mussels where cooked to perfection. Highly recommend those dishes, paired with a nice porron! Is fun, entertaining, and challenging for those that are new to the spanish drink.
Kudos! To the friendly waiter, the talented chef, and gracious manager, that made our night with my family a fun and memorable experience. They already know we will be back with more friends and family to show them this little hidden gem of fresh seafood in the heart of one of the biggest developments happening in NYC right now!
Thank you!

Outstanding Spanish fish restaurant in Hudson yards
Went here before a play at the shed on west 30 th Street. Although it is new it is becoming a go to spot in the area. Service was very pleasant and relaxing. The fish was outstanding including our sea bass baked in salt. Very tender and cooked perfectly. The limited menu has plenty of choices for fish lovers. The stuffed squid with sausage was done to perfection and our friends enjoyed jumbo shrimp grilled. And another grilled fish. The rice pudding however was the highlight of the meal. The sangria less so and would recommend wine instead
