Really great food and even better service.
The scenery with the view of the ocean was a dream

We have a tradition of dining at Mar'Sel for our anniversary. Last night we sat outside and we're nice and warm under the heaters. Our server Karla was an absolute delight, giving great advice and not making fun of me when I asked her questions like, "What's in a Manhattan?" and "What exactly IS squab?". We had the pan seared scallops over risotto and it was fabulous. The English Muffins in the bread basket were so good I asked Karla to sneak some into a to go bag for me. The most interesting (and fabulous) dish we had was the chocolate cauliflower soup. That sounds like a weird combo, but as the manager explained to us - they get their chocolate from the Rhone valley and it's just a smidge of it blended in. I'll remember this dish for a long time. We felt pampered by the staff and being outside with the view of the cliffs felt like an intimate experience. Cannot recommend highly enough. Oh, and the WhistlePig Manhattan I had was to die for.
Be the first to ReplyHospitality at its absolute finest.
Impossible to overstate the ease with which the staff at Mar'sel provides impeccable service; from the kind offering of my preference to seating, to the chair being pulled out for me when I would rejoin the table, a blanket being provided for my lap to keep warm, the light humor and confident professionalism from every staff member I crossed, and of course a vast menu knowledge on behalf of the serving and support staff, I could not be more impressed. I enjoy a nice night out to dinner but my server, Jesus, and every single other member of the staff I had the pleasure of meeting on March 5th, surprised me by making my impromptu dinner for one a simply remarkable experience of hospitality and what it should strive to be. Also, the food was delicious. Persimmons with burrata and Butternut Squash soup were some of the highlights of the meal for me. Roasted Forest Mushrooms were out of this world; so much flavor as well as a great portion size. Very unique flavors for sorbet and gelato which I appreciate. I tried the Peach Tea, Mango Chamoy, and Vanilla; all of which were delightful. All this combined with a gorgeous view of the ocean and sunset surrounding the venue made for an outstanding evening and dining experience. I highly recommend for all occasions, casual or celebratory. Thank you Mar'sel!

If you are looking for a great place to celebrate a special occasion, look no further. Mar'sel is the place. Nestled in the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, it is on the top of the hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. Welcoming staff , outstanding service , and delicious food. We had the grilled octopus, scallops and shrimp for appetizers. All cooked perfectly. We had the grilled branzino, pork chop and steak for entrees. Desserts and coffee was delicious. Water glasses were always refilled promptly, silverware and plates were changed regularly, and wait staff were always available if we needed them. It gets cool in the evening but they had plenty of heat lamps which the moved around as needed. 5 stars.

Decided to go here as a last minute choice for Valentine's Day. A choice I greatly regret. Mar'sel's has a an amazing location. The restaurant itself has a great ambiance. The service is fantastic. The food however is incredibly underwhelming. I dare say mediocre. It's just incredibly disappointing that the most expensive restaurant at the resort also has terrible food. Valentine's Day dinner was a 3 course fixed menu. I ordered the risotto, the dry aged steak cooked medium, and the mango panna cotta. The risotto was overcooked, the steak was tough and flavorless, the panna cotta however, fantastic. My partners dinner was of equal if not greater disappointment, though she too enjoyed her dessert. We did also enjoy the wine pairing. They were courteous enough to remove one of the course from our final bill on their own accord as they noticed our entrees had gone untouched. Overall, Mar'sel offers a fantastic view, quality service, and shocking terrible food.

Had a lovely dinner. We had a reservation during sunset. The view was stunning. I wish I had pictures but I was enjoying being in the moment. It being Valentine's Day and the restaurant full, we had great service. I always order my steak medium and the filet mignon was cooked to perfection. I ordered a margarita, but we also got the red wine they recommended. Both tasted amazing. I could never decide on desserts as I tend to want them all, but got the cheesecake and it puts all the other cheesecakes I've had to shame. I was in a food coma after. Luckily my bed for the night was only a few steps away. Overall had a great time with great company.
Be the first to ReplyMar'sel, nestled within the exquisite Terranea Resort,
Mar'sel, nestled within the exquisite Terranea Resort, offers a captivating dining experience with its charming ambience and impeccable service. I made a reservation for myself and the Mrs for Valentine's Day which allowed for only their preset menu($180 per person). A tad steep but the restaurant's live harp player, elegant décor and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean create a picturesque setting for a memorable meal. However, despite the inviting atmosphere and attentive staff, the quality of the seafood falls short of expectations. Despite being situated in a coastal paradise renowned for its fresh seafood, the offerings at Mar'sel disappoint. Dishes may lack the freshness and flavor one would anticipate, detracting from the overall dining experience. Features of the preset menu had seafood trio all of which were disappointing and some form of fowl described in likeness to pigeon. Also not good. Additionally, while luxury dining often commands a premium price, the cost at Mar'sel may be perceived as excessively high given the subpar seafood quality. For some diners, the exorbitant prices may not be justified by the culinary experience offered. In summary, while Mar'sel excels in ambiance and service, its underwhelming seafood offerings and steep prices may leave some patrons feeling disappointed. For those seeking a truly exceptional dining experience, exploring other dining options within Terranea Resort or the surrounding area may be advisable. Oh and the abismal portions left us to hit the lounge bar and order burgers and fries 45 minutes later. I should return when there is no preset menu and I can make choices I'd probably enjoy more. Until then though 2 stars
Be the first to Replywhat an amazing restaurant! took mama for a pre-vday dinner.
we've stayed and dined at Terranea on several occasions, but, have not had the pleasure of Mar'sel. Oh, what have we been missing! the location is atop a hill, adjacent to the main pool. if you're driving in, it's pretty close to the parking area. there's a wonderful bar upon entering that we would've stopped by at, had we not already imbibed at the Lobby Bar. a roaring fireplace welcomed us in to the dining area and a vista to justify exorbitant property values awaiting our outdoor seating. service from the get-go was TOP NOTCH. shannon led us to our seat and was the best concierge for our needs. felix set us up for what menu options we were going to enjoy this evening. a couple glasses of nice wine started us off, along with some yummy warm fresh baked bread. a little complimentary amuse bouche was a nice touch. mama and i started with the burrata. creamy and unctuous and paired wonderful with our bread options. i ordered the iberico pork steak and mama had the halibut. my pork was amazing, juicy and tender with a nice rendered fat cap. mama's halibut was delicious. firm, but, flakey and ate like a steak. we added a broccolini side that was so good. dinner was absolutely wonderful. shannon even came by and cleaned off our table before presenting us with the dessert menu. we didn't have room for any dessert, but, the gesture in of itself was very impressive. i wished more fine dining venues kept this practice. overall, a truly awesome and unforgettable night out at Mar'sel.

Our server Jesus was perfect! Can't beat the ambience.

We had a fantastic time at Mar'sel to celebrate our birthdays. We had an amazing waiter ..Jeffrey who assisted with our every need. He knew exactly how long to chill our champagne before opening it table side. Again, I can't rave enough about the superior service and food. If you have a chance don't hesitate to go and enjoy yourself here... be sure to ask for Jeffrey!

Very much enjoyed the last three times I've recently eaten there. They have definitely turned the corner from the troubled times during the lockdown. Well done

My husband & Jeffrey Breedlove (my server) set up our table for our anniversary, and did this on their own. We are from out of town and Jeffrey had all kinds of goodies on the table (see pic) The Caviar was amazing! Our first time having it, and I loved the little bilni pancakes that came with it! It went great with our Lady GaGa Dom Perignon that Jeffrey brought in as well. He even arranged for us to drink it out of Tiffany champagne flutes to take home... BRAVO! Jeffrey was amazing, he made everything extra special going above and beyond! We both ordered the filet mignon and it was cooked to perfection. If you ever want to spoil yourself.... this is the spot! We loved the entire Resort. We stayed 4 days and I wished we would've stayed 7! We will definitely be back soon! Thank you Terranea, mar'sel & Jeffrey Cheers! Erin & Luke W.

After having lunch at Catalina Kitchen (which was delicious), I had high hopes for Mar'sel. Getting there was a little confusing but maybe that was our fault. Do you take a shuttle or do you not take a shuttle? There were no clear signs in the hotel. The food was just okay. We had the seafood tower, filet, lobster pasta, and brussel sprouts. The Brussels were a joke (we did make a comment an removed them from our bill tho). Everything was just kind of bland. Except the bread and butter - omg so good, and the dessert! Ask for their chocolate chip cookies...they are like a shortbread with sea salt, wow. That said, the service was impeccable! Our server Felix was amazing, Jesus was also great, really everyone we came in contact there went above and beyond to make our evening nice. It's just too bad that for a nice hotel their nice restaurant fell short. I was hoping for an out of this world meal and it did not deliver. However - there was no corkage fee (we were staying at the resort) so our meal didn't end up being too expensive since we brought our own wine. Can't say much about the vibe as we sat outside in the covered patio when it was dark. The heaters were aplenty and despite the cold there were no issues on that front.
Be the first to ReplyThis might be one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles.
Yes, there are other restaurants with great views. Yes, there are other restaurants with beautiful decor. Yes, there are other exceptional steak-houses. Yes, there are other restaurants with world-class service. But I don't think there's another restaurant with such a perfect blend of all these factors coming together. It scores a 10/10 in each and every category. This restaurant must be a labor of love to the owner/chef, because it's way better than it needs to be. It's not only hitting a home run to get the score, but it's knocking the ball out of the park. Of all its strengths, I'll start with the strongest of them. CHRISTOPHER. One of the best servers I've ever had. Seems like he's been trained at a university of waiters to be a master of his craft. Wife spilled a drink (all over me), and within seconds the staff was there wiping things up, and a few seconds more, Christopher was back with another glass loaded up to the brim, almost daring my wife to spill another even fuller glass all over me again. They have a "kids" dinner, which we asked them to split for our tiny little ones, and there was no fuss whatsoever. Christopher brought the plate to our table, with two extra little plates, and patiently not only split the plate for our girls, but cut up the meat into tiny pieces for them.Supporting cast was also great: It was wifey's birthday, and the hostess really went out of her way to make her feel special. Mayra with the bread basket kept hovering with the most delicious and steaming-fresh rolls and luscious butter. The desserts were good, but for my taste, the weakest link was the cheesecake. It wasn't traditional cheesecake. I forgot what it was, but I saw "cheesecake" on the menu and everything went blank. That was all I needed to read, I thought. I guess I was hoping for the most basic, unfancy cheesecake you'd normally get at a steakhouse. Instead, it was like crispy little biscuits and not as buttery or creamy as I was hoping for. Sorry, I'm just desperate to find a negative to balance my review and make it legit. It was still really good, but my own fault for not really listening beyond "cheesecake". Definitely come early, as place gets packed, especially the front bar. Great ambiance throughout. The oceanfront view, the cigar room decor, and the beautiful fire place make this a wonderful spot, regardless of the time of day or weather. If I haven't thoroughly convinced you, consider this added detail. The weather was terrible. Storming outside. Rain blasting against the windows. We were at the ocean with no view of the ocean whatsoever due to severe. AND STILL had an absolutely fantastically delicious experience.
Be the first to ReplyI highly recommend this special restaurant, it is perfect
I highly recommend this special restaurant, it is perfect for a special occasion or just a date night! The setting can't be beat, the food is a wonderful treat and the service is fabulous. We enjoyed the scallops, the pasta with lobster, the soup, and the little gems salad. The muffins at the beginning of the meal keep me coming back! Jeffrey is our favorite waiter and makes the dining experience memorable.

We had the pleasure dinning yesterday for Bruch! Everything was perfect , especially the service from Chris and his assistant Jess. Chris was so professional yet with a fantastic sense of humor. He knew the menu in and out. Also a big thank you to the manager Erica and István for stopping by and making sure that everything was to our liking. The food was delicious. Plenty to choose at each course. I enjoyed the avocado toast, eggs Benedict and of course the famous pot the Creme. Nothing could beat such a unforgettable experience.

The harpest made the evening extra special. The wonderful location made the night exquisite with a beautiful sunset, could not have asked for a better experience - thank you over and over to all the dedicated staff both in the kitchen and on the floor you made our night so memorable and romantic we will be back! Ciao Bella!

We had excellent service, but I was very disappointed in my entrée. The lamb chops were overcooked (I asked for medium rare and they were well done), plus the portion was extremely small, two tiny very thin pieces which was mostly fat and hardly any meat for $58! I did mention this to one of the managers and he did nothing (the exception to the excellent service). I would avoid the lamb, the fish entrees did look very nice.
Be the first to ReplyFor the amount of money, this was not a good meal.
The pasta was hard and difficult to eat. It was not cooked enough. The Lobster was ok. Nothing great at all.
Be the first to ReplyWow! Wow is all is all I can say.
Food, service, drinks & atmosphere is the best you can get. If you come here ask to be seated in Jeffrey's section. He's the one that truly made this experience amazing. Such a sweet and attentive server. He was our bestie for the night. If you visit Terranea, this is the place you should be eating at! 10/10!

.. ah the weather...ah the service! This restaurant is in such a beautiful location. This is a delayed review for a trip there over the summer so I'll add that it's the perfect place to escape the LA three digit heat. We celebrated a birthday here and opted for their three course Sunday brunch! I had,The avocado on toast for course 1: the bread had a nice crunch (think ratatouille when he's squishing the bread) but the avocado was like toothpaste on the bread so it had a weird texture and bland tastePastrami Benedict for course 2: pretty good! I usually don't love hollandaise sauce but this one didn't bother me! The shishitos were also a nice kick of spice! Vegan lemon cheesecake for dessert/course 3: okay I have never had vegan cheesecake before and I was pleasantly surprised! I loved the taste and the walnuts crust hit the spot! We also had the pot de creme as a nice birthday gift with some cookies and if I wasn't gonna burst (pants butrón about the fly off) then I would have licked that little cup clean! (Sorry ew to imagine but it was so good!)Overall, very realizing vibes and a very nice birthday meal! Cheers :)
Be the first to Reply5 out of 5 star! I like this place the best out of all
5 out of 5 star! I like this place the best out of all restaurants in the resort. This place has the nicest pacific ocean views. You'll have the most beautiful pictures taken here. It's pricey but the service is always exceptional. We had the best waitress I have ever experiencedI wish I would have remembered her name she was extremely courteous polite and fast with our service.

...I think so. He was a wonderful Southern server who has been there since the beginning. If you worry about money, Read the prices before you come and come to terms with it. The food was delicious, the view was wonderful...and then it got very dark. The outer tables could probably use a tad more light. I felt like I was unable to see the beautiful presentation. That has nothing to do with the food though. The Halibut was delicious.

We are staying at Terranea for 2 nights, have been here before but have not dined at Mar'sel - it's a nice venue - the initial service was great- we had oysters and salad and ordered a nice bottle of wine - and then had our meal; sea bass and halibut - both were very good. We then ordered the apple crisp for dessert - it was burned to a crisp - you couldn't even take a bite. The worst part was that our server was nowhere to be found- nobody came to check to see if we wanted anything else or to quality check the dessert.....or to even serve water ....it was 15 minutes later when the bill was dropped off that we showed the server the pic that is attached. Started out great - ended on a bad note.
