Called for a manager, asked for my identity and they hung up. It was a very rude interaction.
Be the first to ReplyFrankly, some of the worst sushi I have ever eaten.
nThe tuna was dry and pale. I couldn't eat it. The fried rice was over-salted, yet flavorless. If you really like quality sushi, this is not the place for you.

Came here for lunch with my buddy and had a great time! We both had the lobster roll which was awesome 10/10, I enjoyed the sesame tofu appetizer very much which came with a really savory sauce! I also enjoyed a miso soup was great and warm. The service was quick and great since we were some of the few people there and I love the ambiance! You're on main street ventura especially the patio, the vives are bound to be good. I will definitely come back to enjoy another roll from this place!
Be the first to ReplyTerrible food and even worse service.
Don't waste your time or money. If I could give it a zero O I would. Worst dining experience of my life

Family friendly clean place, I had a few rolls and some others. The fish was fresh prepared properly up to standards. I recommend this place for sure!!! I will hit this place again. The servers were great and checked in more than needed but was greatly appreciated.

. never know what to expect right? I love the basic sushi food and I thought I'd give this over hyped place a try! Service was very on point, very lovely waiters, and the heaters are very nice since it's been freezing out here in Ventura during the holidays! Anyways my friend and I decided to be crazy and order 2 plates. teriyaki combo: can definitely feed two people. Very good for a basic sushi eater like myself.Chefs choice: unwise decision for myself. I asked the waiter that I wanted to try new things, expand my pallete so I asked for a recommendation. Chefs choice was her recommendation so I did it. I was not a fan. I took one small nibble of the sashimi and I knew I wouldn't like the rest. I asked if I could get a replacement, she had to ask the owner since she didn't know what to do in a situation like this.. I had not touched any of the other rolls and she said I would have to pay for a new plate of food.. bummer. I've worked in a restaurant and I'd understand if they charge me if I ate 50% if it but I had one small bite. Anyways, the teriyaki combo was great. I hope the owner/manager will be a little more understanding in the future.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my go to Sushi place in downtown Ventura.
On a nice day there outside patio is nice. Good food and great service.
Be the first to ReplyIt was a brisk morning in Ventura.
The pavement was brighter than usual from the rain the day before, but the sun still hid behind clouds, the clouds that promised rain for the next couple days. Accompanied by my two friends and two strangers, we waited at the door of Masa Sushi. The strangers embarked on a forbidden journey (opening the closed door) and they told us what they had found on their expedition, that the restaurant would open in 3 minutes. It was 11:27. We took a short trip to Buffalo Exchange to pass time while we waited for 3 minutes to pass. After spending time and money in the overpriced thrift store, we returned to the spot, and waited for a few minutes before we were greeted by an employee of the restaurant. She asked if we would like to be seated inside or outside, and the weather demanded an inside sit. "Inside would be nice," we said. "Come back in 15 minutes," she said. To Goodwill we went.Goodwill proved disappointing, but purchases were made. Of course. Whether or not we wear such purchases remains a mystery. We returned yet again to Masa, and we were promptly seated and served. It was happy hour, which we were happy to hear. Most appetizers and rolls were discounted, which was a pleasant surprise as starving college students who quite literally live paycheck to paycheck. The Red Dragon roll and Crunch roll were spectacular as usual, and the cucumber salad and garlic edamame were fantastic as expected. The usual 5 star rating was dimmed to a 4 star today, but going Masa is always a highlight. The employees are helpful and kind, and they have Shirley Temples. Everything was yummy, everyone was nice, come during happy hour, but not when they open. Third time's the charm.
Be the first to ReplySecond time going here in the last two weeks.
Sat once inside and once outside. On a nice day outside is nice. Big picnic tables and good for people watching. But not nice in bas weather. Our sushi was very good both times. Very fresh fish and a very large menu. One in our group doesn't like sushi but they have plenty of options that are cooked. Very good service and food came fast. My only complaint is that we received our appetizers after our main meals. So Don't order them at the same time. Would go back.
Be the first to ReplyLove the atmosphere here.
Always easy to get a table. Food is good, service is poor. Servers too stretched between patrons. Recently sashimi arrived room temp and salads arrived warm and long after main order. A large group came in after us and was served food long before us. Had to wave at server to get our warm salads. It was busy but still not acceptable. Music inside is bad and super loud. We will continue to patronize Masa but will sit outside.
Be the first to ReplyA solid sushi spot to satisfy your cravings.
I've come here a couple times already and it has always been a good experience. The food is good and the service has been good as well.

Ordered a special chicken plate with sushi, worst mistake ever. Rice ended up tasting spoiled and it probably was, sushi was warm and tasted too fishy. Probably gonna puke or poop my guts out later
Be the first to ReplyI cannot make sense out of the five star reviews for this
I cannot make sense out of the five star reviews for this place. It's mediocre sushi, at best. When we expressed concern that the teriyaki chicken looked under cooked, one server asked if we requested "well done", then looked at her co-worker who asked the same question. This isn't a cut of steak. Anyone in the food service industry should know about the importance of properly cooked poultry. Felt like we were being gas lit. Didn't work. Check out their health score section and you'll see that they have a violation for under cooking their food. I'm posting a photo of the violation. Be careful!
Be the first to ReplyIncompetence personified.
The sushi itself: not bad; a few notches above 711 shelf sushi. The service: a traveling carnival of characters from the tipsy clown to the self-proclaimed queen complete with unwavering confidence and overwhelming attitude yet nothing a mirror would claim worthy. Questioning customers who simply inquire as to whether or not the chicken was even cooked only to repeatedly reply, "you didn't ask for it to be well done." Salmonella doesn't appear to exist in one's vocabulary. Also, why did the rice come out in a separate bowl 15 minutes before the raw, recently plucked chicken? Because cold rice and raw chicken is as compatible as red wine and grits. Sarcasm alert: Charging medically struggling patrons an extra $2 for each table spoon of gluten-free soy sauce will really encourage returning clientele. While we're at it, someone explain to me why paying over a hundred dollars for over priced sushi at a third rate sushi spot calls for a forced 20% added gratuity for my wife and I? We definitely misjudged this establishment as an honorable sushi joint. Next time we'd be better off at 711.

The vibe is invigorating and the staff is amazing the sushi is heaven and you need to come here. I've never been to a better place when it comes to this type of food. It's right off the strip on main street and you'll love every thing about it. When you go once you'll be hooked I highly recommend!

Be the first to ReplyI will never, ever recommend this place! Their food is
I will never, ever recommend this place! Their food is mediocre, but the worst thing about them is their customer service. This afternoon I placed an order with them thru Grubhub. They left out a whole order and dumb me I should have known better. This is the 2nd time this has happened with this 2nd rate (actually lower) sushi establishment. When I called them the woman I talked to was absolutely an idiot. She admitted THEY made the mistake, but she said I had to come and pick up what THEY left out. I tried to explain that we were on the East side of Ventura working and that the point of ordering a delivery is just my that, we needed the food to be delivered! All she continued to say, not allowing me to get anther word in, is that I had to pick it up. I finally gave up and hung up. I will NEVER order anything from Masa Sushi again and in addition will go out of my way to recommend to anybody I know that they stay far away from this place!
Be the first to ReplyStopped in during the Ventura Street Fair.
The place was busy as expected. First of all the service was not good. We felt extremely rushed from the time we were greeted & seated. Second, the fish on the"Rainbow Rolls" we ordered was warm. Every other Sushi restaurant we've eaten at the fish has been very cold! Third, I'm 99% certain that the tuna on our rolls was not real. It didn't look real, it didn't taste real. It seemed to me to be some sort of manufactured imitation "tuna like" product that sort of resembles tuna. Kinda like imitation "krab" as opposed to actual real authentic "crab." Anyway, we will not be returning here. We especially didn't like the rush rush "get em in-get em out" service attitude we encountered.

When I ate this food it felt like I was in amazing food heaven if I could I would ย rate it over a million! It is great, it is fantastic. I JUST LOVE IT !
Be the first to ReplyGot this one delivered so can't really comment on service
Got this one delivered so can't really comment on service or ambiance. Fire Cracker roll was great the tempura stayed crunchy even after commute so I was pleasantly surprisedLobster Roll - chunks of baked crawfish on top of CA roll, so technically not a lobster lobster. EIther way it was tasty. A little on the sweeter side, wish there was a little acid to balance it out. Packaging was okay, could be better, the styro boxes weren't really that secure. Love that they included utensils too!Solid delivery option overall.

Camping on the Rincon for the weekend of March 26-28, Saturday night we decided to come into town for dinner. Hadn't been to Ventura since pre-pandemic, and remembered this place, but now that it has outdoor seating, we could bring our dog. Glad we did! Started with the Beach Balls appetizer (very satisfying with ponzu sauce), then salmon skin salad and the Fantasy roll. Salmon skin in the salad was crispy, lots of fresh greens. The roll was delicious as well! Service was great, friendly and welcoming. They even brought a bowl of water for our pup! We'll be visiting Ventura often again, and will be sure to return to Masa Sushi.
Be the first to ReplyToday I ordered this from Uber eats not really knowing what
Today I ordered this from Uber eats not really knowing what to expect I didn't look at the reviews I just saw they had a chirashi bowl. I got that and another crunchy roll and some Gyoza. I am down in Ventura from the bay area where there's a lot of good sushi and I didn't really expect much. I was just hungry. Every single thing I ate even though it got delivered was freaking amazing. I will order this every time I am in ventura from now on. The chirashi bowl has excellent quality fish and the rice was amazing. The gyoza was amazing... I am so happy I took a chance order for lunch... This is now my Ventura sushi spot. Forever.
