Mastro's Steakhouse San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
Lobster Bisque is a solid choice, skip the au gratin
Lobster Bisque is a solid choice, skip the au gratin potatoes, creamed corn is a great side and twice baked. Had the filet on both visits with the peppercorn sauce. Live music is very entertaining. Service was exceedingly good and really enjoy the large lemon drop martini
I was here for a work luncheon on the terrace.
The staff and food were excellent. Dante, especially, really knew his way around the wine list and helped me make excellent choices within my budget, that wowed those that imbibed. I loved my filet, which I ordered rare. I was disappointed when I cut into it at first and it seemed at least medium. But it was a perfect medium rare with a nice seat and crust on the outside. The pumpernickel bread was awesome. I would have liked more salad dressing but no big deal. The. Sorbet trio was fantastic- lime, blackberry, and mango.

I've eaten steak at a lot of places, and more often than not, I'm disappointed. Oh, I'll tell folks that the steak was good, but really, it was chewy, or tough, or just a disappointing experience. So when I ordered an 8 oz. fillet at Mastro's, I was prepared to be let down, again. But instead of disappointment, I was greeted with one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. An honestly, truly, a great steak the way it's meant to be done. There was a group of us and everything we ordered was great. Apps, like the seafood tower, bone marrow, oysters... and all of it great. And the service? Equally great. The crowd was a bit loud, but I'm sure it was because they were having a great time. If you're looking for something on the intimate side, it's not Mastro's. But if you like a happy, loud atmosphere, you're covered. A definite recommendation for Mastro's.
Excellent restaurant
An excellent restaurant a stone's throw from our hotel. THE Prices are high, as is the soundscape, but the dishes are of very good quality.

I've been frequently dining here for 7 years now and have never been disappointed. I always request Aladdin as my server because he is so attentive and prompt! The food I've never any complaints on. My favorites are the creamed spinach, the pumpernickel bread, and the sautéed shrimp. Special thanks to Matthew who made my daughter's birthday so memorable! They made her feel like a princess!
My family chose to celebrate Mother's Day at Mastro's.
The food, the ambiance, the service was amazing. The whole experience has been one of the best yet. I highly recommend everyone to try it. I will surely be coming back for more. Thank you Mastro's for making this Mother's Day a special one for me.

Had an absolutely fantastic experience with Lily and Paul at the bar - fantastic cocktails and curated vibe - could not recommend them more! Super grateful they made me feel at home
Food was really good, they are a little heavy on the butter.
It's definitely a date night place and your going to spend some money... parking across the street is easy and safe.

Our server, Pedro, is the bomb! He is spot on with menu descriptions, recommendations, service and all with a smile! Our herbed branzino was delicious as were the lobster masked potatoes and broccolini. The desserts, chocolate sin cake and the signature cake were delicious. Pedro kept my water glass continuously refilled. The live music was fabulous too! This young woman could belt out some tunes from the 1970's to the present! All in all, this place was so impressive and worth your Pennie's! Enjoy!

I recently went for dinner at Maestro's Restaurant to celebrate my first wedding anniversary, and while the food itself was great, our experience was unfortunately marred by a significant inconvenience. The service was so so along with the restaurant mixed up our take out, which we only discovered once we got home. We immediately called the restaurant to resolve the issue and spoke to the staff twice, requesting to speak with the manager. Despite our efforts, the manager never called back to address our concerns. It's disappointing that such a reputable establishment would lack the courtesy to follow up with a customer, especially considering the importance of the occasion. While the food was excellent, the poor handling of our complaint has left us not really wanting to return. Overall I recommend you take your time and money elsewhere.

Food was really tasty but the service and atmosphere were sub par. I would recommend going elsewhere given the $$$$ price tag.
10/10 The service is phenomenal.
The food is amazing. The wine list is spectacular. The ambiance is classy, relaxed. Loved it!

We made day of reservations on a Friday and were able to find a time no problem! Our server, Aladin, was very thoughtful and checked on us frequently. We ordered the Ribeye, seared scallops, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, and brussle sprouts. The steak and scallops were perfection, the sides were tasty as well. The environment is very chill and had pretty dim lighting.
I just had eye surgery and am unable to use the website.
I called Mastros and their corporate answered and said it wouldn't be a problem to put a to go order via phone and transferred me directly to the manager to order. Matthew answered and said he could not put in an to go order and said I had to order online. I explained I had a disability and an eye impairment and couldn't use their website and their corporate said it was ok which is why they transferred me directly to him to order. Matthew said they were wrong and said if I wanted to go I'd have to use the website. I told him again I had a disability and he said it didn't matter and I should find a friend or care taker to help me. This is beyond disappointing. I expected more from Mastros.

The food was amazing but I was more surprised by the service. We had two servers specifically for our table (just my husband and I) and they were so attentive, on stand by waiting if we needed anything, served us and plated our food and all our sides. I will say we did wait quite long for our food and missed our Jazz reservation afterward but regardless we still enjoyed the food, service, and live music. It was quite expensive but worth the treat for a special occasion. Their butter cake was my favorite and to die for!!

Celebrated my 29th birthday here back in December and everything was really good from appetizer, entree and dessert. Nice atmosphere and management was great as well made it a nice occasion. I'll be back.
I made reservations to dine at this restaurant to celebrate
I made reservations to dine at this restaurant to celebrate a family birthday. I got a call to confirm my reservation asking me to call back so that they can review the dress code. I've never had any restaurant asking me to call back so they can talk to me about it. In addition, at the entrance of the restaurant, there was a sign about their strict dress code. This gives me an impression of the restaurant trying really hard to be up-scale, but left a feeling of awkwardness for the restaurant. The restaurant was dark and had to use flashlight from my phone to look at the menu. I saw other guests had to do the same with flashlight. They offer live music during dinner. There was no band, but more like a karaoke singing. She had a good voice and sang variety of pop song covers. The food was average overall. We order bread (not complementary), crab cakes (didn't like it), sushi roll (good but nothing special), Caesar salad (ok, but didn't eat much of it), porterhouse steak (very good with hot plate). It was very nice that the manager came by to give us birthday dessert, cheesecake and ice cream. My kids commented that the cheesecake was hard and ice cream was alright but they only ate a few bites. I'm thankful I got to experience this restaurant but I would not return.

My partner and I chose Mastros because it was close to the theater we were going to afterward. Honestly I should have canceled when I realized it was a chain but thought the menu looked pretty good and my partner loves steak. I had trouble booking through their reservation system and had to call in. No big deal. They texted to confirm the res, I confirmed. Then an hour before our reservation they called me to re-confirm a reservation I'd already confirmed- while I was trying to walk out the door to get to the reservation just to remind me about their dress code as if I'm an adolescent dining out for the first time. It was unnecessary and felt intrusive frankly. We get there and things are fine until the server begins explaining the specials, the menu and everything else in excruciating detail because none of these details are on the very sparse menu. Here is the thing- I don't want a lecture from the server about the food. They should know the specials, ask if I have questions and need a drink and then leave me alone with the menu to allow me to decide what I want to eat. Despite these red flags I decided to treat myself to Japanese wagyu, my partner ordered the ribeye and we started with the special Caesar salad, a lobster cocktail and a virgin mojito. The mocktail was overly sweet and the lobster cocktail ok (and the horseradish especially good) but I had to tear the claws open and get lobster all over my hands because they hadn't cracked it properly. The salad was pathetic. It was obvious the romaine came out of a Sysco bag - it was rusted- a sure sign it had been prepped days in advance and wilted. The dressing was overpowering, too salty and the whole thing hadn't been tossed properly because my portion was drenched in dressing and my partner had almost none. Then the meat came and I could not wrap my head around how much money I had flushed down the toilet. First of all they wanted to bring it to me on a 400 degree plate- which has to be the fastest way to ruin a decent steak I've ever heard of. It's unnecessary and overcooks the meat while leaving it no time to rest properly. The tiny piece of meat I got was, hands dicen, the worst steak I have ever eaten in my life and such a complete waste of money and such a disrespectful handling of such a fine piece of meat that I nearly cried. Wagyu is very temperamental and the chef simply doesn't know how to handle it. My partners steak was good. But it was obvious that the kitchens philosophy was to add fat and hope that made everything taste better. It doesn't- adding cheese and butter in such quantities merely made everything cloyingly rich. All of this at ridiculous price points. I've definitely had MUCH MUCH better food for far less, with less irritating service. I'll never go back here- waste of money for pretend high end food. Never again.
Wow, what a wonderful experience to dine at.
Astro's Steakhouse! The food, atmosphere and service was first class. We had the filet mignon, crab cakes and corn, lobster mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious! Topped off with a warm cake for dessert and we rolled out of the restaurant happy and full. Portions were tasty while generous. I would highly recommend this restaurant and experience!

We had dinner with a friend from the East Coast and hoped to have an outstanding experience based on the reviews we read, the exact opposite was true. My Wife had the Chilean Sea Bass , which was dry and salty. I had the 8oz filet which I had requested medium + (pink on the inside) that was served on a plate so hot I had to wait 10mins to be able to eat. By the time i was able to eat it it was well done. I had the scalloped potatoes, which they put on the hot plate and when I went to eat them they were so hot that I burned my tongue and had to drink ice water. Our guest had the Wagyu 8oz.which was fatty and did not finish his steak. None of us finished our meals. Overall I would say the wait-staff were excellent. But based on our experience we will never go back and would not recommend. Not worth the $$$$!
The dining room was wayToo loud.
Music was blaring. Q Waiter's jacket was filthy. Attention to detail matters!

I had a great time here! I just popped in for a drink at the bar after a show just down the street. I thought I was gonna have one drink but the place had such a fun energy we decided to hang out for a while. Our bartender, Paul, was really fun, attentive, and had some great recommendations for us. The butter cake was crisp on the outside but had a soft and decadent inside, such a great way to end the night! Mastro's Service is over the top, with a high energy ambience, and food that doesn't disappoint.
Great Ambiance, Food, Wine and Service
This restaurant has it all. I sat at the bar and had a light dinner and wine. The best Caesar Salad and wine not to mention the great staff that takes care of you. Ease dropping the other meals served, they looked so delicious as well. I will be back for a full dinner.
Great steaks! Outstanding service.
Steak was done perfectly. Staff was amazing...attentive, friendly, and accommodating. Very busy, so definitely recommend reservations.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
