Maypole Inn | Pub & Rooms Giggleswick Reviews from The Last Year
An oustanding meal
You I cannot understand why this outstanding restaurant is not fully booked and rammed with diners - quite simply we have stumbled across a place that served some of the best food I have eaten since the lockdown. A super choice on the menu, cooked to perfection and all at a very reasonable price. Along with very welcoming hosts - people, if you don't go you are seriously missing out!!!
Called in for lunch on the off chance. We all had an amazing lunch… including the fussy veggie 😂. Highly recommended 👍
5 for lunch on chance,on the way back from the Lake District, never been before… I can recommend the lamb roulade special, steak pies were generous & looked homemade, even the veggie was happy. Great food, good beer👍 We,d definitely call back in again👍
Family trip, Mother's Day. Friendly great food.
We as a family stayed nearby. From the first day we arrived and had lunch in the Maypole we were very pleased it was our local for a week. Eight of us went for Mother's day. Delicious home cooked food. Service was excellent. Ate there 4 days out of 7.
Modern yet traditional pub and B&B
I travelled up to Yorkshire for a break to beat the January blues, first met with the aesthetically pleasing building which has clearly been renovated and maintained. There is plenty of space to park in the car park, checking in was quick and easy which allowed me to quickly get settled in my room (which was clean and again looks to be recently modernised with traditional features) then onto enjoy the evening in the pub. The landlord, lady and staff were a good laugh and very welcoming as were the locals. I stayed for two nights, on both nights I had a peaceful and comfortable sleep. The Nespresso machine is a nice touch for a quick coffee before going downstairs for breakfast, which again was faultless and filling. I am so relieved to find somewhere aesthetically pleasing, warm and welcoming. When in Yorkshire again I will definitely be returning.
Disappointing
Very expensive for what was provided. Mattress had seen better days and was uncomfortable. Sheets were lovely though. No hotel information in the welcome pack. Had to request WiFi code and was told that it was in the welcome pack! Breakfast was basic and seemed like it had been cooked and kept warm for hours. More edible on our second morning. This appears to be the only bed and breakfast accommodation in this village so it feels like they can charge what they like!
Don't waste your money
After a long drive, we were greeted by "you'll have to pay now and what will you want for breakfast?" Taken aback as it was 3pm. So we just said a full English. Our room, which was Pendle 3, was quite nicely decorated but absolutely stunk of cigarettes. As expected in such an old building the floors weren't level but lying in bed was an experience in itself. There was no hot water to the sink but was OK in the shower. The room was not serviced even though we were booked for 2 nights. We were told we would have to eat in the bar first night because a large party was in the restaurant but despite there being a pub quiz. Breakfast was OK but not everything was on your plate. Second nights meal in the restaurant we chose Cumberland sausage whirl. Neither could be eaten as under cooked. Staff not very tentative so we had veg and mash. To be fair when they cleared the table and we told them it was very undercooked, they knocked the price off the bill. Still no hot water in room. On leaving a young lady asked if we'd enjoyed it and we said no and why. She said yes several people have complained about no hot water - yet nothing has been done about it. Would not recommend and will definitely not be returning.
Absolute rubbish
Sadly booked this place for a 2 night stay, what a mistake. On arrival we were greeted with a miserable host who insisted I tell her what I wanted for my breakfast in the morning and at what time! The room was average decor but absolutely no hot water coming out of sink tap which apparently “lots of people have mentioned this” The food the first night was average but second night was totally uncooked. I did get a refund but it spoiled the evening. There is zero friendliness at this place and we couldn’t wait to leave. Needless to say I would never return and certainly wouldn’t recommend to anyone. I just wished I had read previous reviews as I am not the only one to have had this awful experience. Never again.
Third visit and the last.
Arrived at a busy time during a pub quiz. First warning of a bad experience to come was they wanted payment up front. We've stayed at this pub twice before and enjoyed our stay but this was horrendous. First room we were taken to was actually already occupied. Second room was apparently the right room. Our booking stated a deluxe room. £230 for 2 nights b&b. The room was tiny and noisy. Not sure we're the noise came from but could have been the kitchen extractor fan working but it didn't stop till after 11 pm. No hot water. We were later told you have to run the shower at the same time. The radiator in the bedroom only warmed a third of the way up. The coffee pod machine was full of used pods. No fresh pods to be found anywhere in the room. We went on the search for milk which we found in a cupboard outside of the room. There was a table lamp that didn't work but had dangerous wiring. We were told breakfast was 9.30. The info book said 8.30 to 9.30 so I thought I must have misheard. We were meeting family in Settle the next morning and went for breakfast at 8.30. Everywhere was all locked up. We had to leave at 9.00. That's when everywhere was open, lights on and the lady there said she had been told we wanted breakfast at 9.30. We left for the day. The room hadn't been serviced when we got back later that night. Sunday morning we had breakfast just after 8.30. I wish we hadn't bothered. It was barely warm the only hot food was the beans. Someone needs to learn to warm the plates before putting hot food on them. Always enjoyed our stays there before. We will never stay again!! This is all due to very bad management.
Not worth a visit or a meal
This was probably one of the worst pub experience I've had! Staff all seem miserable, not a smile on any of their faces, not at all friendly. We ordered 2 meals that came with chips, they were awfull! You would think they had been par boiled not fried, they were hard in the centre. We were asked if the meal was OK, I did say it wasn't and why, however no apology just an offer to replace the chips. We didn't bother. This place us not cheap either, £44 for 2 basic pub grub meals and a pint and a half of shandy. No reduction was offered when paying. The interior looks worn and depressing. Definitely NOT worth a visit.
excellent room and food
Booked this through hotels.com for 2 nights. But after reading some reviews on here about food and rooms I nearly cancelled BUT I'm glad I didn't. My room Pen-y-ghent was lovely, clean, great walk in shower and nice comfy bed. Loved the reading lights. Breakfast was excellent and evening meal was too. Heard other dinners talking saying how good the meal they had was. Would not hesitate to recommend to others and would stay again.
Worst meal ever!
My wife and I called into the Maypole Inn on our way home, I had fish and chips and my wife had curry and chips. The meals were disgusting! My fish looked like it was fish bits mashed together then shaped into a fish and then fried. The chips were raw after having them replaced 3 times for the same reason, we called it a day then. The very young waiter had no answer, I felt that he was scared to tell the kitchen about any problems, and the lady behind the bar couldn't care less. Worse pub ever we. We will never go there again. Take my advice. Go anywhere else but not here.

Newbie here. Was just curious what it means when it says that someone is working on your bid?

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
