There is only one Meg O'Malleys and she sure does know how to party. I've been coming here for many years and there's probably many watering holes that are similar but none are like my good friend Meg. The staff is always friendly and will help accommodate the party in hand. You will find vibrant spirits and great music that follows but the real gems here are the menu items. You will find all the similar Irish spirits you are used to, Guinness, Jameson and the other spirits such as harp, and wine or hard liquor for the lads. The vibe is one to be matched while on a random Tuesday you might find an Irish folk band playing near a dinner table while enjoying heirlooms fish and chips. If you are local to the Coastal area you don't need to read this and are probably heading in, but if you are a tourist please make it a point to stop here, have a pint, a cup of soup and a smile as this is the best friendliest Irish neighborhood environment you're ever going to run into. Cheers to you, Meg

I went twice during a 3 night trip and ordered several things and enjoyed all of it. Probably my favorite was the corned beef Ruben egg rolls. Service was great too.

Love this place and love the cheap bean soup! My mother-in-law loves this place so we have to go every time she visits. Also a great spot for your birthday since you get a free dessert I always get the sheppards pie or Guinness pie. The atmosphere is really authentic and reminds of me being back in Dublin. The waitresses are always pleasant as well and the service is great even though this place is always packed.

This place never let you down! Their cornbeef and cabbage is the best! The atmosphere is such great part of this restaurant! The music , the decos and the amazing food make this a must stop !
Be the first to ReplyThe best bar in Melbourne.
Guinness is great and always cold, chicken tenders are the best we have ever had in our life, and you can't go wrong with the 18cent bean soup! Bartender Daniel is the best. Always making us laugh and great service. Even their cocktails are great. You have to come here if you're in the area. They even have live music on the weekends! Can't say enough good things about this place.

I like the Fact they are good at organizing the St Patrick's Day parades. We bought two pub crawl tickets this year and last year. They canceled them the day before the event with no explanation. I emailed them and also post on their Facebook page why were the tickets cancelled NO response

Visited for the first time on St Patrick's Day and was surprised to find space at the bar after a short wait! Must have been lucky 18 cent soup was delish and live music was good. Can't wait to come back again and see if they serve full-size car bombs in real glassware every other day of the year!

4.5 Greeted and seated right away for a Thursday late lunch while away. Service- outstanding. She was wonderful and attentive. Ambience- great vibe. We sat in the back room for the first time and it was wonderful. Quieter which was helpful for my father who is 89- so he could still hear us. Drinks- Snakebites x 3 (made with Harp) and then a Black Velvet (made with Guinness)- good to know the difference as other restaurants have called the Guinness version a snakebite. Food- Parliament soup to start as always. 18 cents per cup and great flavor. Shrimp and crab cake appetizer- really good. Had it blackened this time and may like it better grilled. Irish Stew (3 of us had this)- large portion, very flavorful but a bit salty this time. This was a one off as it wasn't previously like this. Comes with buttered cabbage and a brown roll- very good. It is more like a creamy beef broth as in comparison to the below- straight beef gravy. Guinness and Beef stew- flaky crust, large chunks of meat and mushrooms. Very good. Lunch Special size Shepard's pie with cabbage and a brown roll. Perfect size per my mom, great taste. Pub Burger- my son said it had great flavor. Cooked medium or well done (for awareness on options). Kids macaroni and cheese- with tots. Very good. Was able to buy a pint glass and stickers at the bar as well.

I would recommend this place to anyone that likes an Irish restaurant and pub . The atmosphere is charming and the food is amazing. I took a friend there the Friday night before St. Patty's and she ordered the complete boiled dinner with corn beef and cabbage. I ordered the I believe it is called the Kilkinny sandwich which is corn beef , cabbage , cheese and thousand island dressing . Both meals were so good and we could only eat half of what they gave us . They are now celebrating the holiday for the whole week . There is a parade on the weekend and all kinds of entertainment during that time. They close off a lot of the downtown area for this festival. Even if you are not Irish I think you would enjoy it. They are open all year long and they have a lot of entertainment during the year as well. You have to try it and you will not be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a great restaurant to dine in at.
I don't know when was the last time I've been to an Irish restaurant but this place was absolutely phenomenal and worth coming back too! They had their version of a BLT and I had egg added with it as well as some fries and their $0.18 cent soup! The way the BLT, was presented and tasted was unlike anything I've experienced! Great fries and such a delicious soup full of hearty beans! The menu is comprehensive but there's so much worth trying here if you have the chance. Waitress was really friendly and great during our visit. The atmosphere was very cozy and felt like I was at a 5 star restaurant. Prices are worth their price and the experience. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyMeg O' Malley's knows how to celebrate St.
Patrick's Day! We popped in for a few drinks and a 'snack' and were not disappointed! They had live music on the stage and then bagpipes/drums randomly showed up which added to the atmosphere. The waitress was quick and friendly as well. Would love to go back on a normal day to see how the crowd is. :)

A Melbourne tradition whenever we are in town and a consistent hot spot. Live Irish music on weekend nights and if you're in town for St Patrick's day , you can count on a huge celebration. The menu has items that are always on there and are consistently good. And occasionally they add something new. They have a roasted vegetable pot pie filled with whole mushrooms and carrots , potatoes, peas and onions. Topped with a nice flaky crust. A tiny bit too salty for me but I loved the whole mushrooms !!! They added a veggie sandwich with caramelized onions and a creamy dressing. It was a bit messy and though it was yummy I thought it needed a bit more tweaking to really reach its full potential. We always get the cheese and ale croc with assorted breads for dipping. You get a generous bowl of the cheese but I think the bread selection was different last time I came for my biannual visit. You can never go wrong with their scones. Just get a box to go. They come assorted and with containers of flavored butters. In house desserts are usually the bread pudding with two sauces of your choice. Or a killer chocolate concoction. But they had a new item on the menu this trip. It's a strawberry shortcake with blueberries and whipped cream with a sauce that seemed almost caramelized to me. The shortcake was almost a cross between sponge and biscuit. It was a fun addition to the menu.

First time I had the Senate Bean Soup and a Ruben and enjoyed both. This time I tried the lunch size version of Bangers & Mash and thoroughly enjoyed this meal. The gravy with the onions made the meal! My wife had the 1/2 Roasted Turkey sandwich and she thoroughly enjoyed it. She is very picky on her turkey and the sandwich is made with real turkey breast meat. Overall a very good meal in a cool Irish pub.

Always a fave and wish it was closer to Jax! Came the day before St Patrick's as we are cooking our own Irish feast. Due to this, I moved away from the corned beef to other fare.Kickoff: Black Velvet (snakebite with Guinness) and a Kilkenny. Also enjoyed the Parliament Soup (so good, white bean soup) and split an appetizer of the Shrimp and crab cake (great flavor, whole shrimp).Meals: Kids chicken tenders- simple but goodFried Cod Sandwich- large, crisp, goodIrish Stew x2 served with brown bread and cabbage (ridiculously good as always- creamy and great flavor- not salty at all)Chicken Pot Pie- per my mom, excellent- best one she has ever had (and she is in her 80s).Added to go meals (another Irish Stew and the shrimp and crab cake dinners) for others that couldn't make it.Server: Robert J, super nice and helpful. Was busy and he did a great job throughout.

Wow!!! This was our first time to historic downtown Melbourne. Cute little street filled with shops and restaurants. We went to a store and asked the best place to eat and they recommended meg O'Malley's. We opted to sit at the bar. It was Tuesday afternoon and the restaurant had a nice crowd. Our bartender greeted us right away and I asked her for recommendations. I had the sausage rolls served with a grain mustard and my husband ate the shepherd pie. It was nice it came in a small lunch size portion and was plenty big. We also shared the fries with Guinness gravy and beer cheese. Amazing!! We saved room for dessert and shared the bread pudding which you could choose 2 sauces. We can't wait to visit again. Definitely a great day trip if you are ever in the Melbourne area
