We weren’t looking for a fast food restaurant
Unfortunately, the tasty food is not the lasting impression I’m left with, but the attitude of the staff was. We had a table at 8.30pm, which for most places, is not late. However, it was very clear the staff wanted us out the restaurant, and leading up to 10pm we got badgered by the waiting staff, being told multiple times the kitchen was closing. The experience felt rushed, even down to paying the bill. What do I remember of the food? The steak was delicious, my favourite dishes were probably the pork & cabbage. The mackerel wasn’t pleasant, far too many bones for my liking. But I do feel it was over priced. Also, three red wine choices is not enough, it felt very limited. Will I be going back, probably not. Would I recommend it to others, maybe, but I certainly wouldn’t get a late table, perhaps about 7ish would be better. But frankly I can think of other restaurants I’d recommend first.

A talented chef is able to bring flavour to life Great way to share taste and variety with small plates that punch out their aromas plate by plate Will certainly come again We came for lunch and it was quiet so did not have the atmosphere we think an evening slot would have We have already booked again. For dinner this time
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable experience
Came as a group of 10, we all enjoyed the food, esp some of the more unusual dishes, the sharing plates worked well in a larger table. Price was fair and service efficient. Only gripe is they were extremely keen to get us out, they close at 10pm which we didn’t realise, it felt early for a Friday evening - we’d have stayed enjoying some wine for longer if we’d been able to.

Probably the best restaurant I have ever visited- everything was perfect. Would specially recommend the Foccacia and Crispy duck leg. Better than some Michelin star restaurants.

Average food - tough picanha steak, bland fish, practically raw carrots that felt like they’d fly onto the next table with every sawing motion. After 50 minutes we were told they needed our table back (at7.50) even though the booking confirmations said we had until 8.30. After this warning we were glared at constantly by a woman in a khaki dress - she was so cross all night! She was clearly talking about us with another member of staff and made us feel really uncomfortable. Not worth the £100 paid as we left hungry and unwelcome

We were brought some vouchers to use at Mesa, but this won't be our last visit. The restaurant is a small casual and relaxed place in hockley, nottingham. The food choices are based on seasonal and available produce and changes every few months. It's all freshly prepared and cooked on their in-house bbq/grill. The choices are small plates, so ordering 5-6 per couple. We thoroughly enjoyed every plate we had, which was Octopus, Stonebass, Pork, carrots (not just any carrot, wow), and fries. The food was fantastic. The staff we really great too, friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Can't wait to try again.

Outstanding all round. The food here is absolutely fantastic and I could not recommend enough. The stone bass was my favourite, but everything was great!
Be the first to Reply😍 A-MESA-ING FOOD😍
Right off the bat we have to say the food was absolutely amazing, I’ve never had such lovely heirloom tomatoes and we both think they absolutely stole the show! The servers were so attentive, clearly had a good knowledge of the menu and service was efficient and friendly. We dropped it one star simply because of a couple of reasons, whiskey was served in a glass that made it incredibly hard to drink as it was a stemless wine glass with a very narrow rim. Also there was a bill mix up at the end where we received our neighbouring tables cheque and then even though corrected, we were almost charged their bill on the card machine. Only small things though and we truly had a wonderful time, thank you! 😍

I don’t like writing a bad review but I really feel I must on this occasion. Two couples dined last night. We were told when we had already sat down and ordered drinks that we needed to be finished off our table in 1 hour as they had another booking after our table. This didn’t seem acceptable to us. We also booked this table in advance too. We were rushed constantly and the food came immediately we didn’t even have chance to take a sip of our drinks. I felt that this was very poor taste. We spent over £200 and we will not be going there again. (The food was ok but not very warm).

Possible one of the best spot to eat in Nottingham. Aged Dairy cow steak is something else. Not to be missed
Be the first to ReplyReally wanted to love it…
This place came highly recommended so we were eager to try it out. The atmosphere was really good and it was busy even on a Tuesday night. The food is nice, however everything has a similar overwhelming charred taste which made the lamb, chicken, steak and pork basically taste the same just with different textures. On the menu it states that 6/7 dishes per couple is the suitable amount. We visited as a table of 4 and were absolutely starving when we arrived, we ordered 10 dishes and it was WAY too much food. Had we ordered 12/14 dishes it would have been absolutely ridiculous. It’s not a cheap place, so advising tables to order more than can be eaten felt a bit shady. 10% service charge was added to the bill, which we have no problem with if you get good service but it was pretty poor. It was £180 for 10 dishes and 4 beers.

This is the second time visiting Mesa. The food was amazing we had every item on the menu excluding desserts. Every dish was so tasty. Top ten for the team they are so nice and understanding as I accidentally picked up there work phone I did return it 😂 I highly recommend you will not be disappointed..
Be the first to ReplyFirst time what a treat!
Really top notch food. Stand outs were 50 day aged beef, broccoli and beef fat fudge. A great addition to Nottingham.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food
The food was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the Lamb and Beef Croquette. The Celeriac was equally delicious, as was the Octopus and Mackerel. The Brulee and Chocolate Mousse to finish both also really good. Service was good, and the pricing more than reasonable. Would definitely return.

MESA is so popular that you really ought to book in advance. Even on a February Tuesday night. Not being able to make a specific choice we we went for everything. Not a bad plate among them. I note one review moaning about £8 for broccoli which was delicious but £1.50 goes straight to tax. A bag of crisps is over a £1 in a boozer these days give me the broccoli any day. Staff: brilliant, drinks: interesting & good value, food: I'm coming back it's so good. Lots of places to eat in Nottm but not many as good as MESA.
Be the first to ReplyModern, exciting, delcious
Precise dishes usually focussed on one or two ingredients. All really tasty, some quite unusual ( but its good to be offered that). Nice staff, nice atmosphere, decent wines and beers. Not dissimilar to the excellent Kushi Ya. I will definitely go back - Nottingham needs this kind of place.
Be the first to ReplyAnother little gem in Notts
One of the best in Nottingham right now. Chilled atmosphere, similar to Kushi-Ya. Also like Kushi-Ya there are a limited number of dishes but each one is absolutely perfect in every way. Even the plate of broccili is a mouth watering delight that takes your mouth on a smoked and grilled journey like you were at Notting Hill Carnival! Even if you fancy just a burger and chips, it might well be the best burger you've tasted. Staff ate attentive and it's great value for money in the mid-price bracket as well. Can't fault it.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible value
Very poor value, the dishes are small and very costly, £8 for a few stems of Brocoli!. Two choices for desert which one of them was unavailable. The driver of our party asked for a coffee but they don't serve it!! We left feeling hungry after paying a very expensive bill 😔
Be the first to ReplyDelicious - particularly the vegetarian options.
Tried 4 of the dishes and they were all tasty and beautifully presented. The stand outs were the vegetarian options - really delicious Especially the beetroot and broccoli. Quite pricey but you can tell the care and attention paid to the flavour combinations.
Be the first to ReplyAn absolute gem.
What a gem. The first restaurant in Nottingham that I’ve loved since well Sonny’s in the 90s. Super relaxed atmosphere, friendly, unassuming staff. Comfy tables and a really lovely ambience. Then there’s the food….I had THE most wonderful meal. So did my friends. The hispy cabbage was sensational, the little cheese and bacon croquettes Devine and the truffle mushrooms a delight. My friends also had the pork belly, the lamb, the cod and the broccoli and they loved it all. Topped off with a beautiful cold glass of pino and it was a perfect evening. I’d recommend this little gem of a place anytime.
Be the first to ReplyBest meal I’ve ever had
Going to say it. Best meal I’ve ever had out. The atmosphere, service and drink selection was perfect The food really was something, ordered 11 dishes between 4 of us, every single dish was unbelievable, I think the lamb ribs may have been my favourite, I dread to think how many burgers I’ve had in my time but I think this may have been the best, honestly competing or beating the places that solely sell burgers. Genuinely can’t fault anything, it’s even reasonably priced, and the quality was far above very expensive meals I’ve had out. Can tell that every member of staff puts their heart and soul into it. 10/10 cannot wait to be back in Nottingham for round 2. Thank you
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food
Amazing food! One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time, can’t wait to go back and try all the other dishes. We loved the chicken wings, hispi cabbage, chips and miso aubergine.

Delicious food! Couldn’t fault any of the dishes we ordered. The food came out super quickly. 100% recommend the Hispi cabbage (small plate). The beef cheeks and lamb mains were unreal. Already booked to go again next month.
Be the first to ReplyI'll 'steak' my reputation on this being the freshest, most creative restaurant in town
We went to Mesa for steak night - it was incredible! It was our first visit for a while and it was amazing to see that the levels of creativity and quality with the food remain top notch. The meat was glorious, and the sides and sauces were equally stars of the show.
Also the staff continue to be the absolute best - it's hard to see why you'd want to eat anywhere else in town!
Fabulous!
We went to Mesa this evening for a pre-Christmas meal out and we were not disappointed! An absolutely great local place, very stylish and a great atmosphere. The food was delicious and such good quality, house white wine was also very nice. We will definitely be recommending to our friends :)
