Minetta Tavern New York Reviews from The Last Year
stopped into minetta for lunch to try the famous burger.
was able to walk in and seated immediately. ordered the black label burger which came with fries, also ordered a lobster roll with a salad, and a side of mushrooms. overall, everything was pretty good. but across the board, dishes were oversalted. the fries, salad, and mushrooms were heavy on salt. the lobster roll was nice, had good chunks of lobster, but thought the bread needed more butter/a little more toasting, and picky but I think there was dill in the dressing which threw me off? The burger, also pretty good, did not live up to the hype for me. It was solid but the dry aged beef flavor did not come through in the mix, it was good but pretty standard in terms of a thicker style burger service was friendly and quick
Fantastic steak (NY strip), great service and ambiance at
Fantastic steak (NY strip), great service and ambiance at the bar. Great place to sit at the bar for some drinks and food.
Fantastic burger
Had the black label burger and it was really tasty definitely worth checking out. The fries were decent but not as good as the burger. Service was top notch
5 Stars IMO
Whenever I am in NYC, The Minetta Tavern is on my list of reservations. Great atmosphere, great food, great location - what isn't to like? I had the bone marrow for an appetizer, and the ribeye with fries for my dinner. I can't remember what my wife ate, but she loved it. The bar makes a great Sazerac BTW....PS - They discourage using your phone in the restaurant because there are always celebrities there.
The tuna tartar and the burger were mind blowing.
The place was a little hot inside but definitely a must go! Service was really good also, everyone was kind

This historic restaurant was just down the street from my hotel. It's a block or so south of Washington Square Park where oodles of restaurants, bars and clubs (mostly comedy) are located. Minetta Tavern opened in 1937 and for awhile has been a part of restauranteur Keith McNally's empire. Having visited his Balthazar and Pastis eateries, which have somewhat similar menus, décor and vibes to Minetta, Minetta is the most petite in terms of square-footage, and also the most authentic in terms of decor (due to its age and history). A reservation seems pretty essential for a table, and they are somewhat difficult but not impossible to secure, unlike some other Village restaurants I looked into (4 Charles, Semma, Jeju, Don Angie). The bar is open for walk-ins and fills up quite quickly. Minetta's has 2 burgers, Minetta and Black Label, that it's well-known for, but I wanted to try other things. I started with the foie gras terrine and a seasonal heirloom tomato salad with cherries and peaches, both great. For my entrée it was between the squab en croute, truffled roast chicken and the smoked duck breast. I chose the chicken because it came with frites that I wanted to try. It was a wonderful version of this classic dish. Guests are asked early if they want a soufflé (Grand Marnier or chocolate) for dessert to allow for prep time, but I wanted to try their coconut cake. It was good but not great. Service at the host stand and at the table was great, friendly. Overall a great dinner.
Bustling place, classic decor

I showed up at 530pm and only waited 5 minutes for a seat
I showed up at 530pm and only waited 5 minutes for a seat at the bar. Wonderful beautiful patrons and stern bartenders ensured I had an experience worthy of the $24 dollar burger. It was encrusted perfectly cooked medium and aged beef. There was time for the usual chit-chat with my neighbors seated beside me. I learned a lot about nyc and where else I should visit. I would rate the burger in the top 10 that I have had in my life. And I am not a burger person per se, but it was recommended to me by a friend, and who can we trust if not our friends, right? Would you have a friend that you could not trust? He actually said it was the best burger in his life, so now I know moving forward his palate and taste / rating scale for future recommendations from him.
I hadn't visited Minetta Tavern in a few years, so I was
I hadn't visited Minetta Tavern in a few years, so I was excited to return and order their renowned burger. I even took photos of the restaurant, as I was planning to post them on IG later. I've got to tell you the staff was less than gracious, downright rude. Except for the two managers, the rest of the staff, including the hosts and bartenders can kiss my butt. I even heard another woman and man complain about the curt staff. The hosts allowed people to sit at the bar, while feigning ignorance about what was going on, which was that we had been waiting to move to the bar for some time. Instead, whilst our name was eventually added to an alleged list, multiple times I watched as newly arriving diners undermined the "system." OK, overall, that is arguably trivial. The burger was good even though the fries looked like they had been fished out of the bottom of the fryer basket, as most of them were broken. However, I am more concerned with the dismissive attitude overall. You would think a bartender would be nice. They're so arrogant. They don't even try to ingratiate themselves to customers. No one is friendly, again, except for the manager with glasses, who bestowed on us two glasses of champagne because he knew we were treated like crap, and the Black man. (BTW, 1 of 2, I was the second, of us in the entire restaurant, but I digress. ) As we departed , one of the hosts, had a sotto voce conversation with my friend and gave her two matchboxes and a business card, urging her to use the number to call for reservation. I assume they were mad that I had complained. It was a disappointing experience, and I won't be returning. Food was not great for the hype it gets.
Early dinner before a play.
Great little place in Greenwich Village. Nice menu. Great wine list. Very attentive wait staff. Food was lovely. Would eat there again.
Minetta Tavern is hands down our favorite dinner spot in
Minetta Tavern is hands down our favorite dinner spot in all of NYC and it's no wonder it was frequented by famous talents such as Ernest Hemingway and E. E. Cummings. The classic black and white floors surrounded by iconic and vintage art with moody lighting activates this lively and bustling brasserie making it the perfect late night dinner joint. The white table cloth service is exceptional and the French inspired New York steakhouse menu makes this dining experience unforgettable each visit. Minetta Tavern is arguably home to one of the best burgers in town but I can't help being tempted by their delicious seafood pasta specials every time.
Classic, original, classy, nothing more nothing less.
Minetta Tavern is the kind of joint you come to around 10 at night after a long days work for a burger. And that burger, it's the real deal. I had the black label I think it was called. It's all about the meat, fuck everything else. Service is spectacular.
The black label burger is an amazing burger.
The burger has a great steaky flavor. It's paired with enough fries to share. However, the star of our meal was the cote de beouf. It's for 2 but really 3 could have it and be full. The tomahawk is grilled perfectly over flame. They show you their masterpiece before they slice it and also give you the bone marrow. A special treat. Meat on meat flavor. Delicious.
Upscale cosy buzzing historic restaurant in the Village. Outstanding food wine and service
Wow! This is a special restaurant in a great location in the Village. It’s an establishment! Started in the 30s it is cozy, intimate, buzzing and oozes charm and history. The food is excellent I had the butter lettuce salad with apples and nuts , bouillabaisse. My wife took the moules and frites. We shared the chocolate soufflé for dessert which was awesome. A very good choice of wines Friendly and attentive service throughout. Not cheap but not outrageously expensive either given the overall quality and experience of the restaurant We visit Manhattan once a year and will definitely be back!
Scammed!!
Double charged with no refund or apology! Such a shame as we really enjoyed this restaurant but the fact when we walked in we were asked by the bar man what we would like to drink. I replied pinot please he said we don't have that is sancere ok! to which i said ok. During the meal I said you don't have pinot do you to the waitress and she said of course! so I said the bar man said you don't! how much is sancere? 27 a glass! She did throw a free pinot in! Got home to find 146 pounds and 140 on my bill. I have sent 3 emails and called all ignored! Beware!!!! keep a close eye on your charges during and after!
Historic and Delicious - don’t miss
Family of 4 on a Saturday in May - NYU graduation - found a last minute cancellation on Resy and grabbed it for 11:30AM brunch - arrived 11:15AM which was a good idea (opened at 11AM) - was able to choose our seat - half-round booth with a good view - this is an historic tavern - small and tight seating - high end service - water glass filled constantly - attentive - Eggs Benedict ($29) and omelette ($28) were very good - thick sliced bacon (2) were $15 al a Carte; French Dip ($33) and Cheeseburger ($31) were delicious. Draft beers ($7.50), specialty cocktail ($22), mimosa ($22) . Next time I want to sit at the bar.
A must-go for us whenever we're in NYC
My husband and I always make sure to get dinner here when we're in town, which is not as often as we'd like. As usual we started with the Roasted Bone Marrow which was as delicious as always—my only critique is that they are currently serving it with shallot confit instead of tapenade, and we both prefer the flavor combination of the marrow with the tapenade. That said, we do usually go in the Autumn/Winter so it's possible that the shallot confit is seasonal for the Spring. For our entrees I had the Grilled Sea Bass and my husband had the Handmade Spinach Pappardelle. Both were completely delicious. I had the Domaine du Grapillon D'Or Gigondas, a red wine that I now need to find so I can have it again, and my husband had the Vieux Carre cocktail. For dessert we shared the chocolate soufflé, which we've had before, and it was delicious again. The staff was as attentive as always. They refill any water glass that's half empty, refold your napkin if you leave the table, help move the table if you're getting up from a bench seat along the wall, open the restroom door for you if they're nearby, and anything you would expect from a top-tier restaurant. Our server was friendly and attentive but never made us feel rushed. The noise level is only moderate, so you can carry on a conversation without having to shout over music that's too loud or other noisy patrons.
Good brunch.
Had brunch here and was a nice meal. The omelet was good not special but good. The burger was excellent. They do cook it a little rarer then ordered fyi. Service was very good overall.
Excellent lunch but ask for the burger medium not medium rare
Very pleasant lunch with charming staff and decent food, but I see how they couldn’t hold onto the Michelin star. The steak tartare was delicious but the lobster roll small and a bit flavorless. And way too many French fries with everything. The burger sounds delicious, with 28-day ground prime rib. Bit beef lile that needs cooking and “medium rare” as interpreted here and as recommended was not enough: left a too-gamey flavour. The staff are charming and our waiter was just like Austin Butler…
A very Special Meal
OMG this was a dining experience from start to finish. This is a bustling and busy restaurant in a hip and trendy area of Soho. We came for our Anniversary and our meal was just perfect. We had the Vol Au Vent, Bone Marrow and the Black Label Burger with fries. Each dish was delicious! We had complimentary champagne for our Anni( such a nice touch) and our server was phenomenal. The place is definitely loud and packed, but we were able to talk and had great people watching as well. We finished our meal with the soufflé … incredible!! Drinks and wine were flowing as well. This restaurant was recommended to us by many people and we are so glad we went. I can’t wait to return. Best meal of our entire NYC trip!
Revisited MT after a few years on my birthday eve.
The 4 of us having recently been to Balthazar, were keen compare and contrast their sister restaurant. First of all, walking in you're greeted by the hostess and offered to check in your coat. The tables are set up in classic French bistro style, which is to say close to each other but not too close where comparatively Balthazar feels claustrophobic. Here the staff is familial and eager to make you feel like a regular. We started off with a round of martinis which albeit good were not amazing. Blue cheese stuffed olives felt chalky and martini wasn't dirty like requested. We got 2 orders of French onion soup and 2 brioche with seared foie gras. Both were tasty and fairly indistinguishable from Balthazar's . Mains were 2 steak frites which we upgraded to rib eye for around $10 more. While the steak was good it was on the thin side and some cuts felt chewy. Frites were spectacular and perfectly crispy and seasoned. Other 2 orders were beef bourguignon with potatoes which my guests raved about. We finished with flawless grand marnier souffle which arrived piping hot and topped off with generous pour of said liquor. Despite a few misses with Martini quality and occasionally absent minded waiters, we virtually closed the place and were never rushed to pay and leave.
excellent spot.
great ambiance and quality of food as well as service. they have an excellent wine selection. and are well known for their Minetta burger. I got the steak and it was cooked perfectly. the staff is excellent and also holds as a very intimate dining experience. very traditional NYC restaurant setting - highly recommend
They were so kind for my boyfriend's birthday when i asked
They were so kind for my boyfriend's birthday when i asked over the phone for a candle on his burger. They gave us delicious dessert too. So happy with our experience
Such a gem! Hostess at the front was so sweet! Asked if it
Such a gem! Hostess at the front was so sweet! Asked if it was our first time dining with them and when we told her yes, and she sat us at a wonderful table. Exceptional food and service. Can't wait to go again. Burgers are top notch. Highly recommend for a date night.
I really love the service here, the staff really take care
I really love the service here, the staff really take care of you and make you feel welcome. However I want to settle the burger debate for once and for all- IMO the burger is not the best thing on the menu but it IS worth trying. Now the question becomes, which burger? The black label burger is the restaurant's iconic $38 burger that is made with dry aged beef. A lot of reviews here recommend getting it with cheese. Next, their other offering is the Minetta burger, which comes with cheese and costs $31. My opinion is that I much prefer the Minetta burger. You can taste the difference in the meats, with the BLB having a richer and more "aged" taste (almost sweeter meat). However the Minetta burger is just as juicy, though more savory and is complimented so well by the cheese on top. I did try the BLB with cheese (because I love cheese) and tasted it side by side with the Minetta burger and Minetta was still my preference. As for best burger in the city, I prefer Au Cheval but everyone has their own opinion on the matter. Now for my favorite offerings on the menu, their steak frites dish is so flavorful and well done, and I was blown away by their Vol Au Vent appetizer. It consisted of a beautiful puff pastry with mushrooms, chicken pieces, and chicken jus. It was salty, rich, savory- SO good. I always get the chocolate soufflé for dessert because it's so light and tasty. This is a great restaurant. Only drawback is how cramped it feels, but all the positives make up for this.
Minetta Tavern is a classic staple in New York's dining
Minetta Tavern is a classic staple in New York's dining scene, renowned for its old-world charm and exceptional cuisine. However, recent visits have revealed a surprising turn; it's now reminiscent of the buzz and vibe found at Carbone, another icon in its own right, but with a distinct "boomer" twist. Where Carbone elevates Italian-American staples to fine dining heights with a modern, energetic ambiance, Minetta Tavern holds onto a more traditional, almost nostalgic appeal. It's like stepping back in time, where the décor, music, and overall ambiance feel like a nod to the past, appealing to those who appreciate a slice of New York's rich history alongside their meal. The food, while still of high quality, seems to cater to a palate that appreciates classic, hearty dishes over the innovative twists and bold flavors that Carbone is known for. The service at Minetta Tavern maintains a professional, almost ceremonious demeanor, contrasting with Carbone's lively and sometimes theatrical approach. This isn't to say Minetta Tavern has lost its charm. On the contrary, it offers a unique experience for those looking for a quieter, more reflective dining experience. It's a place where time seems to slow down, allowing guests to savor each bite and every moment. In a city that's always rushing forward, Minetta Tavern, like a "boomer" version of Carbone, invites you to pause and appreciate the enduring appeal of New York's culinary classics.
Outstanding experience.
A long standing restaurant did not disappoint. Service staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and responsive. Clean and engaging setting.
Great time at Minetta Tavern.
Food was amazing! The service and atmosphere will be up there in our cherished memories of family trip to NY 2024.
We love this place.
The old school vibe and excellent food and service is worth the prices. The burger is superb.
Not worth it!
Whatever they did to get a michelin star they have long since abandonded. Ordered the bone marrow-it was undercooked. Followed that with a butter lettuce salad. House dressing was pretty bland and uninspiring. Hamachi crudo was up next. It was sauced with some component that immediately set the corners of my mouth alight with the same tingling acid sensation you get when you eat expired tomato sauce. To be fair, 4 days have passed and no gastro-related illness but the thought ran thru my mind all night after i tried the tuna. The main was a squab in puff pastry. Plenty of pastry and filling but a squab breast the size of a lemon wheel left me pretty disillusioned. Ordered both souffles-the chocolate was perfect. The grand marnier infused version was undercooked. And they charge you for tap water!
I love this place.
Quaint. Old school nyc. The vibe, atmosphere, service.., everything impeccable. Definitely go here, only gripe from 4-5 star is price. 31 to 38 burger, $25 drinks . It's packed because it's legit for every reason.... But it $$$$$$ for the experience. We'll be back, but w so many great spots, it'll be compared. Example - burgers $31-38. Very good, but..,. Be judicious
WORTH THE HYPE
Minetta Tavern Lives Up to the Hype. At times, the over hyped and highly acclaimed eateries so disappoint. This is NOT the case at Minetta Tavern. This meat-centric, relaxed, cozy, red walled, lower level restaurant / bar is packed, PACKED, with devotees waiting for a hard to snag seat at the bar or at a table. (TIP ONE—- MAKE A RESERVATION.) The host staff is very pleasant and accommodating and seated us within 10 minutes of our reservation time. While the cocktails were not great, the food was DELICIOUS. We opted for oysters and the famous Black Label burger and fries. The oysters were flavorful, buttery and a great starter. The standout was the Black Label burger and fries. The shoe string fries were hot, crispy, salty scrumptiousness. The burger was thick, juicy, delectable, perfectly seared and seasoned. The meat blend was yummy and top notch. (I know, I know, I’m raving about a burger and fries, but it IS rave worthy!) The burgers were prepared exactly as ordered, bun on the side and medium and medium rare. SO DELICIOUS! Continuing to completely disregard calorie and cholesterol concerns, we shared a chocolate soufflé for dessert. As if the burger and fries alone weren’t enough to keep us coming back, the service was very warm, so attentive, uber friendly and helpful. Our server, Ella, was terrific! (TIP TWO—EAT AT MINETTA TAVERN, and, to truly enjoy the delicious food, leave your dietary concerns at the curb.) Minetta Tavern, we, too, are now devotees.
Did not eat. BEWARE of reservation credit card security.
Like many restaurants in NYC, a credit card is needed to "secure a reservation. However, at Minetta Tavern, a credit card must be given to the reservation office, not the restaurant itself and unlike other establishments, their credit card security system is less than secure. In two (not one) previous occasions my credit card was charged a "no show" fee even though I arrived and checked in well WITHIN the 15 minutes buffer. Evidently someone in "reservation" had made a decision to charge my card. Therefore, based on my conversation with the restaurant's staff I decided to show for dinner at 5:00 pm on 01/04, as I was told a table was available. Upon my arrival at 4:58 pm, the table was no longer available, and I had to change my plans. Either risk to be inappropriately charged OR take a chance at not finding an open table. Post Covid the staff has become arrogant and rude, and seem not to care.
Consistently Great
Minetta never disappoints. The steak and burgers are among the best in the city. They also have a great wine selection with good value
Paris in New York
Outstanding restaurant in every aspect. Ambience, staff and service, food, selection, presentation and flavours. Our welcome from Victoria was old school welcoming with utter class. Jeremy our server was simply the best. Knowledgeable, approachable, full service and personality that screamed top rated French restaurant. In every aspect great experience.
A classic.
We had Thanksgiving dinner here. It was a wonderful dinner. The bone marrow was delicious. The atmosphere is one of the best in New York City.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
