Not worth it!
Whatever they did to get a michelin star they have long since abandonded. Ordered the bone marrow-it was undercooked. Followed that with a butter lettuce salad. House dressing was pretty bland and uninspiring. Hamachi crudo was up next. It was sauced with some component that immediately set the corners of my mouth alight with the same tingling acid sensation you get when you eat expired tomato sauce. To be fair, 4 days have passed and no gastro-related illness but the thought ran thru my mind all night after i tried the tuna. The main was a squab in puff pastry. Plenty of pastry and filling but a squab breast the size of a lemon wheel left me pretty disillusioned. Ordered both souffles-the chocolate was perfect. The grand marnier infused version was undercooked. And they charge you for tap water!
Be the first to ReplyWORTH THE HYPE
Minetta Tavern Lives Up to the Hype. At times, the over hyped and highly acclaimed eateries so disappoint. This is NOT the case at Minetta Tavern. This meat-centric, relaxed, cozy, red walled, lower level restaurant / bar is packed, PACKED, with devotees waiting for a hard to snag seat at the bar or at a table. (TIP ONE—- MAKE A RESERVATION.) The host staff is very pleasant and accommodating and seated us within 10 minutes of our reservation time. While the cocktails were not great, the food was DELICIOUS. We opted for oysters and the famous Black Label burger and fries. The oysters were flavorful, buttery and a great starter. The standout was the Black Label burger and fries. The shoe string fries were hot, crispy, salty scrumptiousness. The burger was thick, juicy, delectable, perfectly seared and seasoned. The meat blend was yummy and top notch. (I know, I know, I’m raving about a burger and fries, but it IS rave worthy!) The burgers were prepared exactly as ordered, bun on the side and medium and medium rare. SO DELICIOUS! Continuing to completely disregard calorie and cholesterol concerns, we shared a chocolate soufflé for dessert. As if the burger and fries alone weren’t enough to keep us coming back, the service was very warm, so attentive, uber friendly and helpful. Our server, Ella, was terrific! (TIP TWO—EAT AT MINETTA TAVERN, and, to truly enjoy the delicious food, leave your dietary concerns at the curb.) Minetta Tavern, we, too, are now devotees.
Be the first to ReplyDid not eat. BEWARE of reservation credit card security.
Like many restaurants in NYC, a credit card is needed to "secure a reservation. However, at Minetta Tavern, a credit card must be given to the reservation office, not the restaurant itself and unlike other establishments, their credit card security system is less than secure. In two (not one) previous occasions my credit card was charged a "no show" fee even though I arrived and checked in well WITHIN the 15 minutes buffer. Evidently someone in "reservation" had made a decision to charge my card. Therefore, based on my conversation with the restaurant's staff I decided to show for dinner at 5:00 pm on 01/04, as I was told a table was available. Upon my arrival at 4:58 pm, the table was no longer available, and I had to change my plans. Either risk to be inappropriately charged OR take a chance at not finding an open table. Post Covid the staff has become arrogant and rude, and seem not to care.

Minetta never disappoints. The steak and burgers are among the best in the city. They also have a great wine selection with good value

Outstanding restaurant in every aspect. Ambience, staff and service, food, selection, presentation and flavours. Our welcome from Victoria was old school welcoming with utter class. Jeremy our server was simply the best. Knowledgeable, approachable, full service and personality that screamed top rated French restaurant. In every aspect great experience.

We had Thanksgiving dinner here. It was a wonderful dinner. The bone marrow was delicious. The atmosphere is one of the best in New York City.
Be the first to ReplyNice place e good burger
After many tries to make a reservation, qe decided to visit this place without reservation because. We arrived around of 9:30PM and we were luck to ger a table. We ordered a local draft beer and a Minerta Burger to share. Both beer and burger were good. The burger is well served and more than enough to one person. Aftar we tried a apple with vanila icecream. The tavern was crowded with a good vibe. The only thing that bothered us was the waiter that put pressure on us to order more food or drinks.

The atmosphere was very buzzy and old school which was nice. For some it might be too loud but I liked it. Service was very charming but far too fast. We had barely had our cocktails drop before the sommelier was hovering for our wine choice. I’d like to enjoy a $25 cocktail, not be rushed through it. And about the wine choices - give me a break. There are lots of lovely wines at $50 or $80. The idea that the only acceptable wines for this esteemed institution start at $100 and actually sit at an average of about $400 (up to $9000) is dumb. Either you’re a groovy old school bistro or a Michelin star high-end eatery. You don’t get to charge for one and deliver the other. We started with a butter lettuce salad that was very tasty but we had to eat it super slow just to slow the roll on the far too speedy service. Steak frites and the Minetta burger were good, but not great. Good quality meat on the burger but just too big. A burger patty is a certain size for a reason. This was big just to be American big. Not pleasant to eat. The steak was good. Both were well cooked. Grand mariner soufflé was not good. Again, too big, hence poorly cooked on the interior. Very scrambled eggy. Then there were the little things - $12 bottled water. $5.50 espresso. Again, just dumb. Lastly, my husband apparently made them aware that we were celebrating a special occasion and it was never referenced. I’m happy to pay thousands for a meal that’s worth it but goodness this was hype and no more. I think there are many places for a better experience. Will not return.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious dinner
We wanted to try here after seeing many reviews of their burger! It didn’t disappoint, burger was delicious and we shared the soufflé which was also really good and huge! Waiters were very attendant and atmosphere was bustling. Is expensive but would recommend for a treat!
Be the first to ReplyBest burger in town bar none
It's rated as one of the best burgers in NYC and you can see why. It's fine dinning for burgers, with amazing deserts and wines. While it says tavern it's really a restaurant and upscale bar.
Be the first to ReplyCouples night with simple entree and great desert.
Great service in a very tight and loud setting. Bar is awesome and menu was great choices Burger with cheddar was delicious and presentation was with a great pickle and lots of hot fries. Chocolate Soufflé closed it out with vanilla bean ice cream. Wine list needs help very lean.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing early lunch for a great start to a busy weekend
This place is legendary and we popped in at 12:00, slightly hungover, for a bottle of Krug and French Dip.... soooo good. What a fantastic way to start an August NY weekend. Formally added to my standard NY weekend plans!
Be the first to ReplyVery tasty meal!
I have to confess I was several drinks in when our dinner was served. We shared a hole pile of steak, which was mouth watering. It was very busy but service was speedy. I spent some time outside having a you know what and met loads of great people. Will definitely return when sober next time. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyBurger and bone marrow
The black label burger is amazing. I had to order 2. The bar staff is great. I ordered the bone marrow also. The bone marrow was full of flavor. Can't wait to go back
Be the first to ReplyFantastic experience
What a great experience Minetta is. Lively atmosphere with the charm of a place than has been there for almost 100 years! The staff is amazing and the food was sensational! A place to return in NYC!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and service
By change I ended UP at Minetta Tavern in Greenwhich Village (I think). I was Just walking around, looking at menu's when my eye fell on White asperges Hollandaise. I have an addiction to that dish. So, I went for it. Of course it was an horse d oevre. It was excellent. For the main, a filet Mignon, cooked to perfection though the sauce could have been less pepper I though. Accompanied with half A bottle Chablis 2019. Pannacotta. Bcitrus as a dessert. It was A perfect blend of sweet an A bit sour. Absolute wonderful. Perfect dinner
Be the first to ReplyTwo visits, two experiences
On our first night in town we were able to secure a reservation and we rushed from our hotel with high expectations. The staff was delightful and the cocktails delicious. Our food was good. Not great but good. The burger my husband had read rave reviews about was not as noteworthy as he hoped. The chocolate soufflé was heavenly. We arranged to return another day for drinks and appetizers before a show. The food was good and the bottle of wine lovely but the server seemed to be rushing us through the experience. Dishes were attempted to be cleared before they were finished and drinks menus taken away abruptly. After our first time there we had hoped it would only get better but alas it did not.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing bar experience
Consider this one of the best bar dining experiences in the city, hands down. Disregard having literally the two best burger options in the city, at the bar you have access to the full dinner menu which includes (Chef Laurent’s) specials that are why many come back.
Expect high end service if you dine at the bar because that’s what you’ll get. High end, down to earth, great bar, great food, great bartenders. Hospitality. They get it.
Definitely worth a trip
Lovely restaurant in a real chic part of New york, food was fabulous; the only thing I would fault is that we booked outdoors and while they had an outdoor set up, there was certainly not enough heating.
Be the first to ReplyBest meal of our trip!
Simply amazing. The atmosphere and food were the best of our trip. I got the Filet Au Poivre and my wife got the mushroom risotto. Both were outstanding. I highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyA Gem
Minetta Tavern is a gem, from its pressed tin ceiling to its imaginative French bistro menu. The crepinet was ground chicken stuffed with chunks of foie gras and then enveloped in a very thin crepe. Duck breast was perfectly prepared. Even quite late on a weeknight, getting a table required patience, but was certainly worth the wait.
Be the first to ReplySnobbish staff, noisy. Good burger.
The rude staff ruins the experience. It is noisy and guests are crammed like sardines.
Food is of good quality, prepared with fresh ingredients.
Just get a shack burger
I don't know what the fuss is about. Everyone I asked said you have to try the burger here. So I did. And won't again.
They had oysters on the menu which were decent - or this would be a one-star.
The Bloody Mary was tomato juice with tabasco thrown in.
The burger was forgettable, neither juicy nor tasty.
First time visit and would go back!!!
Went her as a family of four for the first time and absolutely loved it! Great feel to it as soon as you walk through the velvet curtain!! Never been before, we have gone to the Bull and Bear in the Waldorf in the past! Food was excellent! Would def go back and good for Celeb spotting!!!
Be the first to ReplyGood restaurant with a neighbourhood feel
Went there for dinner on a Sunday night before a show at the Comedy Cellar. I didn't have a reservation but the hostess was nice enough to find me a table. It had a time limit, but it still gave me over an hour to have dinner alone.
I had the chicken pot pie with fries. The pot pie looked amazing with the pastry really puffed up, however, it could've done with a little bit more filling. The fries were really good.
I was sitting close to the bar where a few people seemed like regulars which gave the restaurant a neighbourhood feel.
The service could have been a little faster, but still very attentive.
