Sad little place with processed everything.
Produce looks and tastes like it comes from a bag. Dingy.

Friendly staff, I highly recommend this place!
Be the first to ReplyUsed to be much better food here years ago.
Value is still pretty good. Side if macaroni salad was super small. I got the red apple sandwich. Burger was a little dry. Fries were cooked a little light and could have been cooked a little more. The wedge fries were cooked ok but the side of tarter sauce just didn't taste the same as when I was a kid Tried the ham and cheese balls and although a fairly good value. (20 for $5) they tasted ok but burger huts taste 10 times better. Will I be back? Probably cause it's the only restaurant in town!! Burger hut also has better hours so if in Mahnomen during the summer go to burger hut instead!!

Decided to venture out after staying over at the Casino last night, and the Apple did not disappoint! Food was much cheaper then most diners ($4.50 for pancakes and sausage at the time of this review), and it was delicious. The host said you won't leave hungry and she was right! Ordered breakfast and once the plate came, I ordered some lunch for later too! Seems to be family ran, and everyone knows each other here so it's very warm and welcoming. Next time I hit Shooting Star, this will be either my stop before I go, or the last one I make before heading home.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! The absolute worst breakfast experience ever! The place looks horrible and dingy, the people taking your order are clueless, the food is not edible! I ordered a take out breakfast, the south of the border omelette, and they forgot to put the sour cream and salsa with it. I asked for cheddar cheese and they put American cheese inside. The vegetables I think were frozen vegetables and tasted like rubber. I called the manager to inform them about these issues and she was very rude and trying to say it was my fault. I only had a couple bites of the omelette and then had to throw it away. Soon after I felt nauseous and I wish I hadn't even taken those two bites. Do yourself a big favor, go to shooting star casino down the street. For the same price of my omelette, I could've had an entire buffet! There are lots of cute cafés that are really delicious in small towns, but this is definitely not that! You're better off throwing up and eating your own vomit!
Be the first to ReplyWe went here looking for breakfast on a Sunday at 11am.
They stop serving breakfast at 10:45, and only offered a breakfast buffet. While we were there for 20 minutes, 3 groups of people came in to order off the breakfast menu- 2 of them left visibly disappointed. We decided to try the buffet because we had been driving for an hour looking for a cafe along our route and we were hungry. The biscuits and gravy were good and so was the bacon, but the pancakes were cold. We didn't try the egg bake- the only other main dish. The biggest disappointment was that due to the lack of options we had no choice but to fork over $23 for our two buffets. The rest of their breakfast menu was reasonably priced, but simply unavailable. Overall, make sure to get there before 10:45 to be free to order as you please. The staff was nice, but that's not enough- I would not recommend. Try going to the casino instead.

We just drove by to try it out and the restaurant is closed and is for sale so don't bother to come here
Be the first to ReplyWas in town for a wedding and decided to go exploring.
Found this gem and had the chicken salad. It was pretty good and the wait staff was very friendly. The food was reasonably priced. If I ever come back to the area I would come back!

I have been going to the Red Apple Cafe for as long as I can remember. At times, it was the only show in town. I love the atmosphere. It is what I miss about living in a large city. For example, they know that my Grandma doesn't like ice in her water, so they bring her flat, room temperature water, to her favorite booth as soon as they see her. My parents, Grandma and I can all have dinner for about $25. The food is typical diner food, with daily specials, nightly buffets, breakfast all day, and plenty of items that are served with gravy.
