Mister A's San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
A tradition worth repeating
Marvelous view, charming upscale setting and a long prestigious history accompanying this restaurant. Almost everything that is order is good! Very well recommended!
Mixed
Four of us went to Mr. A’s for drinks and bar food on a Tuesday at 3:30. The view is lovely, and so is the place (in a Versailles rather than a SoCal kind of way). The blue chairs are very comfortable. Of course, nothing about Mr. A’s is average. I only gave that number of stars because the good and the bad averaged out. The service was good. The Old Fashioned cocktails were fantastic—and the block of square ice had “A” engraved on it. The food ranged from good to poor. Good: the lobster and cheese sandwich with fries. Poor: the caviar tater tots. They had way too little caviar, and tasted like flavorless mashed potatoes. Also poor: the flavorless arancini with winter truffles and goat cheese. The color was the same as the tater tots—a muddy brown. Very poor: the salt spring mussels. I looked these up, and they are supposed to be plump. These were not plump, they were small and scrawny; and had very little flavor. The prices followed the food. The lobster sandwich was well priced (that is lobster for you). The tater tots, arancini, and mussels were way too small for their inflated prices. These appetizers should be upsized, or their prices downsized. And flavor would help.
Favorite restaurant for birthdays
The decor, the views, the food, the service …it is just layers of wonderful experiences at Mr A’s. The waiter was very knowledgeable about wine in general, and of the wines on the menu. I had the beet salad and duck breast entree. My husband had French onion soup and the Dover sole entree. Everything is plated so beautifully, and the food is delicious.
Perfect place for a holiday brunch!
We had Sunday brunch with the live jazz band playing and it was wonderful. Amazing views in all directions and so cool watching the planes land! Make sure to go during the holidays and try one of the specialty cocktails!
Very pleasant and surprisingly affordable
I was by myself for Saturday jazz brunch, but unlike other places they didn’t try to seat me at the bar or out of the way. I got one of the regular tables outside, but just be aware there is limited shade, at least after 10:30 during DST. There are very affordable items on the menu if you’re worried about the price. I got the beignets that were listed as a starter, but I found them very filling. I forgot my lactase pills, so they made a non-dairy milk punch for me that was still frothy and creamy. The Italian limeade was also good.
VERY RACIST & RUDE & UN-Welcoming
This is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been in the US, very RACIST, unwelcoming, I came with my wife to san diego for my honeymoon, and the manger was very rude, because we are arabs and my wife was wearing a hijab.
A room with a view!
What an incredible view of the city and airplane approaches. The food was amazing and staff was very responsive to your needs. Fine dining at it's finest!
Only one star for the view with mediocre food and bad service
1 star for the view! Terrible service and horrible food! Our first time after being remodeled. Beautiful but too many tables which result in poor service. 1. Old fashioned served on ice cubes, not big ice cube 2. Diluted old fashioned cocktail just poured over big ice cube. 3. Prime rib about to go bad- tasted funny. 4. Check was brought before we requested it. We could not finish the food and did not take a doggy bag. We are not coming back! Cannot explain why is so highly rated.
classic eatery in San Diego
great to show off San Diego if you get to sit on a table by the window near the bar area or outside in the terrace. upsacale food. better for adults than children. if you go with children they tend to sit you far away on a corner.
On top of the world
Excellent experience from start to finish. The welcome, our table presentation, our server, the view, the food preparation, the service... it was all top notch. Mark was a true professional. He was attentive, fun and truly knows his craft. It's wonderful to be treated as individuals and not as a number. We will be return soon! Thank you for a wonderful evening.

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
