Definitely recommend! Great date night or special dinner
Definitely recommend! Great date night or special dinner spot!We came here for a Valentine's Day dinner (kudos to my husband for making the surprise reservation)! Many times when we go to dinner at a slightly more high-end restaurant, we like most but not all of the things we order. I'm pleased to say this was not the case here!We were first seating at the Ssam Bar downstairs as we waited for our table to be ready. Our table was ready on time and we were then taken upstairs via the elevator.I'll admit that I did not realize that the theme of the upstairs dining room is one that has table top grills so I was pleasantly surprised! The service was absolutely excellent. One thing I really appreciated is how understanding and accommodating our server (Leyvi) and the restaurant as a whole was to dietary restrictions. They were very diligent and double checked before cooking the items or finalizing the order. We got 2 non-alcoholic drinks - creamsicle and a no-jito (not actually on the menu) - both were great! We started off with the iceberg salad, which was absolutely delicious - thanks Yelpers! It had an addictive dressing and was topped with pickled onions and peppers! For entrees we got the grilled Branzino, 2 orders of the Creekstone Short Ribs (halal!), and a side of the grilled mushrooms. All the grill items are cooked in front of you on the tabletop grill which makes it a pretty fun experience! I'll also say that I noticed the servers would not purposefully try and engage in conversation and really only came back to the grill when needed (so they weren't just awkwardly standing there). I gather, some people would appreciate that, and I did - although we ended up having a nice convo with ours! The fish and ribs were both cooked to perfection with their sauce/glaze complimenting each dish very well. Plus, the sauce on the mushrooms was absolutely delicious! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. As I said, it's not often that we like every single thing we ordered, which was the case here! We will definitely be returning!
Be the first to ReplyI was very disappointed.
I took my girlfriend there for Valentine's Day and the prefix menu they had was a joke. And misleading. Food was under seasoned took a while for the food to come out.( wasn't even that busy) cocktails were wack. And everything super over priced. 0 out of 10 do not recommend. David Chang needs to do something about that spot. It's wack.
Be the first to ReplyWorst restaurant - do not go.
Ssam bar moved to a commercial building and the tasteless food reflects the loss of culture. It's known for the rice cakes and it is NOT a rice cake - it was uncooked pieces of dough that tasted like nothing. Only reason I can give 1 star is because the drinks had enough alcohol to slightly distract me.
Be the first to ReplyThey sat my boyfriend and I right away.
No reservation was needed that Saturday afternoon. We ate off of the restaurant menu which is a great value because it includes a drink and two courses for $45 a person. I had the best iceberg salad of my life. Typically iceberg salads have no flavor but this one did. I really like the sesame on it. The Palmer was a lemonade and I love how green it was. Really yummy. The waffle was average. It could have use more apple and more flavor. My boyfriend had the chicken burger which was a really nice portion. Feel free to ask for a knife and fork for that burger!Service was attentive but not overbearing. Beware that regular prices are expensive but hey it's Manhattan!

I booked the restaurant to celebrate birthday with my friends. One of the staffs dropped foods on the table twice while serving/BBQ and said no apology. The way she acted was just like she was cranky and reluctant to serve.Prawn and steak were over cooked as well.Doesn't change grill when needed. We remind her that there were prawn shell and antnnnas that need to be clean but she didn't clean it. Leaving out course behind with burnt and shell piece. We spent $600 here for an interesting experience. It was very surprising. And the reply from you below is quit disappointing. You spelled my name wrong and the biggest disappointment was not the foods but the table service. I won't write an email and I believe you do have my number if you really want to talk about improvement.

We wanted to try this place because it had good reviews and really cool dining vibes. We were a little surprised about the prices but went with 3 meat platters and 3 sides of garlic rice. The short rib and pork belly were very very good, melt in your mouth and perfectly seasoned. The right one (angus coulotte) was probably the worst piece of meat I've ever eaten. It was so chewy and tough, and I even asked the waiter if this was normal - to which he said yes, it's known to be chewy. For 40$, we could have gotten something so much better!! The garlic rice was extremely good and worth its portion, but it's 17$

Be the first to ReplyFood is great.
Service is ok. Maybe because it was Sunday evening. I recommend Rib eye steak.

Food was amazing! Highly recommend the caico e pepe rice cakes, spicy rice cakes, pork belly buns, and caoullote sizzling steak! For drinks the stay good was a 10/10 the surfer Rosa was okay but gave a bit of a spicy kick towards the end which I didn't think agreed with the menu options I had ordered. Atmosphere: cute trendy and intimate place. Indoor bar seating with a few tables and outside they have a plexiglass enclosure with heated lamps to keep guest comfortable in the winter months. Very friendly and respectful wait staff. Impeccable restrooms. Most of you can't beat the views across the water.

Their drink line-up was great and their plates were perfect for sharing. I wouldn't go for curing ahuge craving for korean food but I do think it's a fun place to gather with friends!* Drinks: all of these were infused with asian whiskeys or flavors like salted plum or sesame! My favorites were Summer of George and K-Margarita. They also have awesome frozen drinks that I didn't get to try but had my eye on.* Popcorn Chicken: basic but super flavorful.* Green Goddess Salad: I feel like so many people eye roll at ordering a salad but evervone should get their veggies in I personally really liked this one as a palate cleanser.* Pork Belly Ssam: definitely a great dish to share, your basic gochujang pork belly!* Caccio E Pepe Rice Cakes:probably was my favorite dish! it had huge truffle shavings over the rice cakes and was super creamy.

Beautiful location right by the water! The pork belly & the wings were amazing. I am glad they have the Korean rice beer, Maekgolli. I have nothing but the best to say about all of David Chang's restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyFood and service were solid.
The new waterfront location is beautiful, spacious and upscale - however it's missing the east side feel of the previous location...

- Prawn toast, 5. Wonderful mix of flavors and textures.- Grilled shrimp, 2. A bit off like it wasn't fresh.- Beef tartare, 4. Well executed.- Ssam ... I guess the steak came with a bed of greens and I spotted a fish on the menu but it ultimately felt like there was no actual ssam at the Ssam bar? Was disappointed given I had been looking forward to something that was more doing the lines of the pork belly photos uploaded by other reviewers.- Dessert included semifreddo and deconstructed cheesecake. Was really craving bingsu (shaved ice)...Service is a bit slow and inattentive but no dings for that. It's tough out there and not unusual since the pandemic hit. Should've checked the menu before heading over. Turned out I was craving a lot of stuff that was on past menus but no longer available.

Long time fan and patron of Momofuku restaurants including Noodle Bar, Ssam Bar, Booker and Dax, Nishi and Ko (my 40th birthday, a breathtakingly beautiful and moving experience). Painful and bizarre experience this evening in the Seaport. Arrived early to our dinner reservation at the bar. Waited a while for someone to offer us a drink but eventually bartender did so, and we ordered, happy and excited to eat at a restaurant we've missed in the pandemic, and had never eaten at since its move from the EV. Had the wine list and menus in front of us as we began to cheers our first cocktail and look at the menus. A person--server, manager?--came around to our bar seats in a nearly empty restaurant (there was only one other person there), reached over me and plucked away the wine list. I said in a friendly way: "I was planning on looking at the wine list for dinner." The person looked at me with deadlights, coldly saying: "Should I bring it back or were you planning on holding it for the duration?" with an edge. I looked around in confusion. "Do you need it right now?" Again, deadlights. As if I were holding open the train doors during rush hour preventing the world from moving. She said fine, keep it and brusquely left. Her attitude was the opposite of hospitable. It was provocative, and scornful and ad hominem. It's hard to convey the strangeness and the low grade contempt/rage of the person talking to us in this review. Who cares about the wine list? Not me! Certainly was happy to relinquish it if someone else needed it! But there was no one there in the restaurant besides us and this person's attitude was nothing but disagreeable bordering on hateful. My partner and I looked at each other in bewilderment. We debated what to do and agreed we had no desire to stay for a meal after such a strange and odious interaction. I paid the check for two cocktails and we left, abandoning a dinner we had been looking forward to for a week. I explained to the hostess the reason we were leaving on the way out. She seemed to intuit why we were leaving but didn't apologize, only said she hoped we found a place to eat that we liked, as if we were hard to please, entitled guests. Hard to imagine ever wanting to go back.
Be the first to ReplyEverything was good, excellent cocktails.
The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the beef tartare: dry, weird color, no flavor whatsoever. The potatoes with green sauce for appetizer is ok... not delicious.Good prawns!

This is a long overdue review (from when I went in September). I love all Momofuku restaurants. I've been to almost all of them and have been the Ssam Bar a few times when it was in EV. This was my first time at the South Street Seaport location. We were there with 5 people and everything was constantly served in portions of four which is fine since that is how everything was planned to be prepared. We got the pork belly for everyone to share and it came with 4 pieces of lettuce to which point we asked for ONE more piece because we didn't want to have to share a piece of lettuce when we had already been sharing small bites the rest of the meal. They brought us a plate of additional lettuce which was more than one but then again totally threw off the even number of pieces we were trying to divide between everyone. The main thing that annoyed me was they charged us for the extra lettuce. It was only $1 but we only wanted once piece of lettuce so we didn't have to share! At least let us know it's an extra charge. Plus why would you give only four pieces of lettuce for a full place of pork belly? On another note I'm glad they saved the cacio e pepe rice cake from Kawi.

In my opinion, Momofuku Ssam Bar is comparable to other Momofuku sit down restaurants (pretty tasty, cool to try, but just a tad underwhelming given price/fuss).Came here for dinner and drinks with a few friends on a Friday night for a patio reservation. Drinks were fine and on par with other sit down dining establishments in New York ($15~ per drink). I had an espresso martini and a toki highball and they tasted fine and I had no complaints with either. For food, I'm not sure if it's because we're still in the kinda funky Covid times, but I thought the menu was slightly limited yet also mostly higher priced (small plates/apps at ~$20 and meat/large plates/mains at ~$40). The food tasted fine, but nothing really stood out and had me itching to go back for more. If I had to pick, I think the sizzling bavette steak was the highlight of the meal - tasty and a little more "special" to Ssam Bar.
Be the first to Reply4.5 stars for a splurge-worthy early Valentine's Day
4.5 stars for a splurge-worthy early Valentine's Day dinner, thanks to a Christmas gift certificate (thanks, sister!). We secured a late reservation for Saturday night, sat in the covered/wind protected outdoor area, and enjoyed very good service with mostly fantastic and creatively conceived food.We started with two cocktails: one a blackberry infused penicillin, a twist on my old favorite drink, with a blackberry and ginger garnish. Tasty, not overly sweet, and colorful, the other was the lady luck with gin, passion fruit, a pile of crushed ice, and a fortune cookie garnish. Insta-worthy for sure.We ordered several smallish plates for maximum sampling and one traditional entree. We started with raw oysters with mignonette, $19 for only 4; the pricing was a bit of a shock to the system to my Maine roots, but still very good quality and of my preferred high salinity. Then, the salt and pepper chicken wings, which were large and exceptionally tasty even to a non-wing lover like me. The raw bar wild salmon crudo with meyer lemon and shiso was just fine. I would have preferred a more citric lemon sauce. The American country ham (we got the Kentucky option) with johnny cakes and pear compote was fantastic, sort of a rural US prosciutto experience and one of our favorite dishes of the meal. Last of the small plates was the crispy fingerling potatoes, with cotija cheese, salsa verde, and pickled red onion. This and the country ham were our surprise favorite apps. For an entree, my Valentine had the grilled pork shoulder steak with kabocha squash on the side and some green (broccoli rabe?) covering the top of the pork steak. The steak got a thumbs up, but the kabocha puree was not as good as hoped for, and we didn't see any of the menu-promised granny smith apples. For desserts, we had to sample both available options, a coffee semifreddo and a deconstructed cheesecake with macerated blood orange. Both were good, the cheesecake was the more unique option but could have benefited from more blood orange. All in all, dessert turned out to be the least favorite course for us.After the last two years of pandemic challenges, it was nice to be out on an unseasonably warm winter night and in a spot with excellent service and a menu from David Chang, a grumpy genius. Strongly recommend for a celebratory night out.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and attentive staff.
Service is polite and accommodating, could use just a little more conversational skills. Overall the vibe does not feel rushed and everything came out with perfect timing. Not only is this one of the few places in the city I have literally no complain about the food nor the wine recommendation but also one of the few places in the city where the scallops are not fishy and oysters has no grit whatsoever! We stayed past their closing time and even then they were really generous with their time and made us felt welcome regardlessly. The only issue is perhaps due to my pickiness but on several occasions it would seem some servers are rather careless in terms of pouring and picking up items as I have had a few water spillage on my table but never got cleaned up and often heard utensils dropping on the floor, but I suppose this could be attributed to the dim cozy lighting.
Be the first to ReplyFinally get to tick off another project of David Chang's.
Bundle up if you sit on the patio. While they offer heaters up above, we still kept our coats on.Smoked Sweet & Sour Ribs -- The amalgamation of flavors added to the fall-off-the-bone meat was the chef's kiss. This is one where you definitely want to lick your fingers to get every drop of the sauce.Cacio e Pepe Rice Cakes -- I love cacio e pepe and I love rice cake but wasn't sure if both would go together. The creaminess of the sauce, paired with the gooey rice cakes, and topped with truffle made for a perfectly executed dish. No doubt, my favorite dish of the meal. American Wagyu Ribeye -- The ribeye was served on a sizzling hot plate, which took me back to my local Korean haunts serving kalbi and bulgogi but make no mistake; this is 10oz of juicy, rich goodness that could delight any steak lover's appetite.

REVIEW OF PATIO: There are lots of great places to eat in Manhattan, this is not one of them. Food flavor and plating was unimpressive. I really expected more from David Chang.Tried the Country Ham and red-eye gravy, Wagyu Beef Tartare, Crispy Fingerling Potatoes and the Smoky Old Fashioned. The country ham was interesting but very salty. Sliced very thin and served like carpaccio. Looked very similar to Korean BBQ meat. Taste was like a salty version of Iberico ham, the red-eye gravy was somewhat flavorless, although it really just could not stand up to the strong flavor of the ham. Personally I'll stick with Iberico. The potatoes were the "best" part of the meal. Crispy and thoroughly cooked, could have used more salsa verde, they were a bit dry. The Smoked Old Fashioned - barrel stave smoked old forester bourbon, tamari, black sugar. It was very booze forward and and we could not taste any flavor imparted by the the tamari syrup. We love old fashioneds and have had some impressive interpretations by very talented bartenders. This was not one of them. The biggest disappointment was the Wagyu Beef Tartare. It was a very small portion and the taste and texture were more like a tough cut of Tuna than Waygu. I've had waygu before and had this been the first Waygu I tried, I'd never try it again. I've had much better Tartare and Waygu everywhere else I've ever had it. Ship this interpretation. Bottom line, we won't be back. While we were at the table we were planning our Order for Keste Pizza on our way home.

Had such a great meal with some friends! It's a little chilly if you're seated in the outside portion but we were wearing our jackets and there were heaters. The food was im goodness sooooo good! Everything we ordered was so fresh and so delicious. The waiter was so helpful and even gave us tips on what to order, which worked out really well. We had such a blast besides the food and drinks being amazing. Some of the dishes that I highly recommend are: Cacio e Pepe Rice Cakes, Impossible Pork Rice Cakes, American Country Ham, Smoked Sweet & Sour Ribs, Sizzling Bavette Steak, and Whole Roasted Fish. They were all so drool worthy, really go there. I only got one picture because well it was all too good to take pictures of.

Executive chef left, the once we remembered are just memories now, the tenderness juicynezz of the wings and ribs are gone. No more rolls to accompany the bland raw apps. Although there are new entries that sparks some interest...its just not worth the trip into seaport anymore. But if u are near by i guess its a no brainer.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely wonderful meal.
Came here on a double date and we tried a bunch of dishes. Our waiter was hilarious and super nice. The Ribs were incredible. The meat and the bones were so soft it was amazing. The flavor was to die for as well. So good we ordered another plate. My girlfriend had the Tartare - it was pretty good. Nothing to rave about in my opinion but she liked it.I had the chicken wings which only comes with 3 wings for $18 dollars. Expensive but those wings were sooooo good it was crazy. They're also pretty big chicken wings so you're actually getting a good amount of meat. My Bavette steak was a little too rare but it was still really good. The Pork Shoulder had great flavor but I will say there was a lot of fat in there so that's something to be cautious of. Warning - we ate on the "heated" patio and it was FRIGID. I would recommend booking in advance for indoors because our experience would've been much cozier had we been inside.Personally, I'd take this spot over Nobu any day if you're looking for expensive Asian-fusion. Much bigger plates, more affordable while still being "classy" or however you wanna describe high-end restaurants.
