This is a great restaurant in the wharf area of DC. The food is high quality and the menu has plenty of options. Solid service and upscale casual .

I love food; I love Vietnamese food; and I love nice restaurants. So I thought Moon Rabbit would be a perfect place for lunch while visiting DC with my wife and niece. The good: I had made an online reservation one week in advance because we went during the popular Cherry Blossom Festival timeframe. When we got there, we were seated within two minutes. The restaurant is in a great location and most of it has really nice views of the busy hustle and bustle of the wharf area. The not-so-good: There is at least one small room in the back of the restaurant that has a few tables and absolutely no windows. We were seated there despite passing empty table after empty table en route to this sad excuse of a room that should only be used for storage. Not that it should matter, but we were not shabbily dressed. We were definitely in more comfortable attire because we had just finished a very fun Segway tour from a shop three minutes walking distance away. We noticed that most people we passed en route to our storage closet were dressed to impress. I'm really hoping that wasn't the reason we were not given one of the several (at least 6-10!) empty tables with the nice sunny wonderful views. More not-so-good: We ordered 3 appetizers and 3 entrees. One of the 3 entrees came out with the appetizers, which we thought was odd. It turned out that was meant for a different group of people at another table in the storage closet with us who ended up complaining 15 minutes later that their entree hadn't arrived. This was most likely due to the food runners who bring the food to the tables not knowing which dish belonged to which table when they arrived in the Siberia corner of the restaurant. This seems like a rookie mistake for a restaurant of this caliber. A 2nd entree of ours came out at a reasonable time, but our 3rd entree came out very late, probably because they had to remake the entree for the other group. The food itself and the presentation was very good, although I was honestly expecting to be more impressed. The dumpling wrappers were a little chewy and thick. The pho was fine...not too salty and not too sweet, but they did not bring any hoisin or Sriracha sauce with it, and frankly I would have liked to have had some. But since that was the final entree to come out, and since no server is able to see anyone in the secret Siberian closet unless they're in the room, I finished it before being able to ask anyone who worked there. Overall, given the reputation that Moon Rabbit has, and the prices it charges, I expected a lot better. Maybe I should have worn a tuxedo.

This isn’t your Mom’s cookin’ ! Varied and interesting combinations. We did family style sharing of the dishes which was great. You could taste a lot of delicious dishes. Highly recommend. Service is attentive.
Be the first to ReplyService needs improvement
Food was very good overall, 4 stars. 1 star removed for service. Sausage gravy biscuits and fried rice were phenomenal. Would return just for those 2 dishes. Pho and dumplings were very good. Service was subpar. We had to ask for every little thing; spoons/bowls for sharing the pho, water refills, sweetener for our tea, etc. Our server started off ok giving us advice on different dishes but when we later asked him about a chicken dish that was missing (and to cancel if it wasn’t yet made) his entire demeanor changed and he was rather curt, abruptly bringing us the check and not acknowledge or thanking us when we left.

Stopped in when brunch just ended so they only had a limited drink and small bites menu at the bar which was fine because I wasn’t super hungry. I was disappointed with what I got. The iced coffee with pandan condensed milk didn’t have any floral notes from the pandan. I guess it looks cool because of the color but I think you can pass on this especially for the price. I got the mapo fries which they load with pork, cheese, and soft tofu. The fries came out cold and the flavor was good but WAY too salty. So much so I could only eat about a third of it because my tongue was so overpowered by the salt. The bar staff and ambiance were nice but I sure hope the rest of their food experience isn’t like this. Especially at this price point! Left soooo let down.
Be the first to ReplyNice atmosphere, great service, delicious food and drink
The atmosphere was nice although we sat outside. The service was excellent. The food and drinks were delicious. We ordered a second serving of the cornbread. It's a bit pricey $$$$ We still recommend. Drink: Haing Basil Thai basil, gin, coconut, lime Bread: Banh Khoai Mi Casava Coconut Cornbread, cultured butter, lime leaf Diner: Crawfish and Noodles Temomi noodles, confit garlic miso, crab fat liaison, aromatic panko
Be the first to ReplyDelicious, good staff, overall excellent
Overall I really liked this spot. It was in the hotel I was staying in and convenient. Had one of the family style dishes - Banh Hoi Dac Biet - and it tasted awesome but the meats were a bit tough. The staff was superb and friendly without being in the way. Good atmosphere and worth the visit.
Be the first to ReplyMeh….disappointing experience
Very average experience. The food, ambiance and service were all very average. Ordered the most expensive entree. It really boiled down to being poorly executed lettuce wraps for $84. The meat was tough and bland. Our server paid the bare minimum attention to us. Super disappointed…

It’s not cheap, so keep that in mind. We had some incredible food and enjoyed all of it- drinks too. Menu is small and they do it well. We would absolutely go back. Make a reservation!
Be the first to ReplyGreat modern Vietnamese cuisine
We had a superlative meal last night at this beautiful restaurant that sits overlooking the Potomac.. The food was amazing with some real good heat. Especially enjoyable were the radish cakes, meat balls, noodles with crayfish and wonderful spicy chicken. Emily provides super service and said they are hoping for a Michelin star soon...they deserve it!

Be the first to ReplyVery good all around, but expensive
Overall, this is a very good restaurant. However, there are some minuses, which I will start with: -- It's expensive. My opinion: cost exceeds value here. Likely due at least in part to its location inside a hotel, in a touristy part of town. -- The maitre d / person meeting and seating guests seems like a newbie. She not only did not give my wife and me a happy/enthusiastic greeting, she barely uttered 2 words to us at all. And this in spite of the fact that the restaurant was not yet busy, as we had a 6pm reservation on a Tuesday. Next, she attempted to sit us right next to the bar (which in contrast to the restaurant was already buzzing loudly), AND right next to a table containing a family with a toddler! This, despite the fact that there were several 2-tops available further in the restaurant, away from the bar! We of course asked for one of those, which it took her a while to finally take us to (again, with barely a word to us). NOT a promising, let alone friendly and welcoming, start. -- The menu is a tad on the limited side. While short menus tend to indicate a kitchen that focuses on quality for each of its offerings, this menu IMHO could use 3 or 4 more options. And now for the good stuff. -- We ordered 2 of their cocktails, and they were tasty and satisfying. -- Each dish we ordered (4 small plates, one main dish, and one dessert) was beautifully presented and quite good. -- The service was excellent. Waiter was very friendly and very professional, and other staff refilled our water glasses in a timely way. Food was brought to the table in a well paced manner. The check was presented a minute after we requested it. Overall, I give the restaurant an A-minus. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the food/drinks (minus the initial strange experience with the greeter person -- maybe new to the job?). The ambiance was appealing, and tables were spaced adequately, i.e., not overly close together, at least in the back part of the restaurant; the front part however was very crowded, with tables relatively jammed together. It was a relatively expensive meal though, and probably not one my wallet will want to repeat anytime soon.
Be the first to ReplySo disappointing
I was staying at the Intercontinental for the weekend, so I booked a reservation for brunch on Sunday. The smells from the restaurant all weekend were amazing. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t remotely live up to the anticipation. My dish (catfish) was incredibly bland. I had to ask for some fish sauce to give it some flavor. I also tried to be patient considering it was busy, but my waiter seemed tuned out and I waited 25 minutes for my check without any explanation or apology.
Be the first to ReplyLimited menu
The restaurant has very good service but the menu is very limited and expensive prices.
The seating outside and inside is excellent. Also the bar is beautiful.
The best breakfast
Might be the best breakfast I have ever had from quality to taste but it’s a bit pricey..
I got the eggs Benedict which was light and fluffy! 100% recommended
Incredible menu and Food, Service could be better curated
Incredible menu and Food, Service was generous but could be more sophisticated for the restaurant ranking.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent brunch
Walked here after visiting some museums on the Mall. Had to wait a bit, because we didn’t have a reservation, which didn’t seem necessary. The donut of the day—strawberry ganache—was outstanding. We shared the French toast and fried chicken sandwich—both unique and delicious. The service was excellent. However, I never thought that a cup of coffee would cost $7!
Be the first to ReplySpecial Vietnamese foods at the Wharf
With the special event (Mardi Gras & fireworks) in DC at the Wharf, we went for this restaurant at the waterfront so we can attend the Mardi Gras after the lunch time. It’s very good foods and services. It’s so busy during this time with many people at the location; however, with a reservation, we got the table with the view of the marina. We all had Bun Cha Ca La Vong (a special northern Vietnamese food). The underground parking is quite expensive at $45 if it is more than 4 hours. Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyGood food and great service; amazing venue/view
We have come here twice now in the last two months. Most recently (about a week ago) we arrived for our reservation but the table wasn't ready. The host graciously and apologetically offered two options - a private room, or to sit at the bar (or we could wait for a table). She was so nice and we aren't that fussy so we chose to sit at the bar. The three rotating bartenders/servers/everything were very competent, attentive, and pleasant.
We ordered a cocktail - my date ordered the Intercontinental and I got an Old Fashioned. Both were exquisite and I made a mental note to come back here for a drinks-onky happy hour/evening. For starters we ordered the egg rolls (they are almost like taquitos, but very tasty) and Meatballs. Both were very good but I will say the sauces at this restaurant (both for the Egg Rolls and the Pork Blade) are top notch.
For our entrees I ordered the fried chicken and my date ordered the Pork Blade lettuce wraps. Both were very good (we had order d the pork blade on our first outing and loved it).
The only complaint I had was that my entree showed up almost 30 minutes after the rest of the food had been brought out - but the restaurant was very apologetic and (I think) because so they brought us a complimentary cookie which was amazing. Also a couple sitting next to us was extremely rude (the guy asked for a candle and when the bartender responded like .. uhhh what.. b cause NO ONE had candles, at least at the bar.. he started saying obnoxiously "you know, that thing that you light with a match that provides light"). I wanted to slap him on behalf of the bartender but she handled it very professionally and ended up bringing the candle.
To cap off the dinner we ordered the Vietnamese Cake with Goats milk ice cream (which has the caramelized popcorn and candied nuts) which was so good. Will definitely make this a staple going forward.
IC DC The Wharf (Gemma)
Gemma is an exceptionally wonderful barmaid at the elegant Moon Rabbit bar located in the Intercontinental DC Wharf hotel. Gemma does so much more than simply pop bottle tops and hand drinks over. She mixes drinks to perfection; offers a friendly smile; and is happy to share with you her thoughts about the local DC scene
I noted Gemma is continually hard at work & always on her toes. Whether it be keeping the bar area immaculately clean; making sure every customer at the crowded bar is tended to; or serving food at the bar.
Gemma is a Gem of an employee. Hard work pays off & that’s why I for one will be a repeat customer at the DC Wharf hotel
Amazing flavors
We had an unique and delicious meal. A surprisingly affordable fine dining experience is possible at Moon Rabbit. The hummingbird cake is a must try dessert.
