Excellent view of the Sea. Perfect spot for a dinner right after the sunset.
Phenomenal spot just above the beach in Malibu - you feel like you're suspended in the sea. Great view of sunsets. The food was really good - a fusion on Chinese/thai and sea food. And the price was reasonable. Good service. The tables outside for the evening felt too cold, despite the external warmers, as this is on the coast with a lot of wind. But we really really enjoyed the dinner inside on a table by the windows. Highly recommend it.

We had the Maine lobster rolls and would not get again. Lots of bread and celery, hardly any lobster & no melted butter. Sweet potato fries were good. Valet park required $$$
Be the first to ReplyWell prepared food but nothing special.
Service was fantastic - from the host to the service and the bus staff. We sat out on the patio - was very well warmed by the heaters: listening to the waves hittting the shore was wonderful. I live in Ojai and ate here because my nephew lives in Santa Monica. We wanted to take him out for his birthday. The food was good - but not good enough so that I would want to go again. The calamari was tender and prepared well. I had Black Cod - it was good. But frankly, no better than what I make at home. Black Cod is hard to get so whenever I see it, I buy it. They brought a nice birthday panna cotta for our nephew for his bday. I ordered tiramisu and frankly, tasted like a big serving of whipped cream. Very disappointing. If I lived closer, I might go back. But nothing spectacular to bring me there.
Be the first to ReplyOnly good for views, food below average
As much as the location is wonderful, my visit here was very disappointing. Very poor menu for those with dietary restrictions (i.e. not a single sandwich for vegetarians, never mind vegans), staff seemed snobbish and not very welcoming (we came in for lunch straight after a nearby hike, in hiking gear), and the beet salad I ordered could barely be called a salad - just a stack of cooked beats, thin layer of cheese on top of the stack and some microgreens. Quite pretty, but should not be served as a salad or a lunch option; I left hungry after paying $80 for two. My husbandโs sandwich was โnothing to write home aboutโ. Would only recommend this place for those looking for views or wanting to celebrate with a nice glass of wine. Would not recommend to anyone actually wanting to eat a decent meal. Oh, and they charge you $10 for a mandatory valet parking.

Go here every time I'm in Los Angeles. Great service, great staff, fresh perfectly cooked seafood and THE best view

The view from the restaurant is absolutely beautiful - this is the key reason to go to Moonshadows! The food is pretty average to be honest, nothing special - we had the spring rolls and beet salad (both were fine) and then the filet mignon (average) and pumpkin ravioli (disgusting). Service was okay, would have expected more for the price we paid. Save your money and just get a cocktail and sit and watch the sea.

We had plans to visit PCH and see Point Dume, so we made reservations to have lunch here along the way. We went on a very busy Sunday, not only was this place packed, but getting there from Marina Del Rey was slow-going in all the traffic on PCH too. Once there, we were greeted and seated with a smile and we chose to dine on the deck over-looking the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean just a few feet below. It was a true treat as the view was amazing, but hearing the waves was equally as appealing! The menu for brunch has all the basics for brunch, but also some nice items for lunch as well. We chose their Roasted Organic Red & Yellow Beet Salad with shrimp added and the Miso Glazed Black Cod and both were presented very nicely and tasted excellent! As a โman of colorโ I can tell you that the service was great during our visit, we werenโt rushed and refills of ice tea was frequent. Additionally, we were treated very nice, as we all the guest interactions we witnessed around us. Highly suggest making reservations and visiting when in the area!

You canโt beat this view! Feels like you are in the ocean. Highly recommend the oysters. Burgers and pizza were good too. Saw seals swimming nearby.
Be the first to ReplyBest date night restaurant in Malibu
AMAZING, wonderful, delicious restaurant in Malibu. My girlfriend and I were looking for some anniversary date night ideas. There is a plethora of options in Malibu but we decided to go with this one. It was really really amazing. in regards to PRICE. We thought it was perfect. Not too cheap (because it is not meant to be cheap) but not out of this world either. About $110 for 2 entrees and a desert. We have spent close to that in other places that don't come near to th quality and beauty of this place In reagards to the FOOD. It was all very delicious. The meat was done exactly to Medium as requested and the Thai Curry shrimp was also marvelous. Needless to say the Tiramisu did not dissapoint. Done to perfection. PARKING-can be an issue but not really I guess . Cost is $10 for valet or park across the street and risk having ti cross the PCH and smthn happening to your car. Would we return? Definitely. We would like to try more places but yes we would return. EXTRAS: we got to see a dolphin on the water. ALSO MAKE A RESERVATION. i THINK they have a small section for people with no reservations and usually those tables are always full from what it seemed like. Take a look and give them a try and tag/follow us on our world wide travel vlogs on instagram/tiktok @thehungrynomadz

Service/server actually really good Food over priced and very average: Bread basket not asked for $9.50 for 4 very small pieces of bread. Starters - chowder gloopy and pretty tasteless & Fish cake $25 tasty but massively overpriced Mains - Lobster/crab linguine $44 very underwhelming & Thai curry tiger shrimp $37.50 this was the best of the bunch pretty tasty. I think probably a very different vibe when weather is good it was very wet when we visited, great location.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Food, Mediocre Service
I rarely eat out when Iโm on vacation, since I am usually traveling by myself. I prefer to get to-go food, but on my trip to Malibu, I wanted to splurge and go to some posh places to eat. Moonshadows was the place I picked for the last meal on my vacation. They have valet parking, which I used and even though I arrived early, they sat me right away at a four top, which surprised me (they had tried to sit me outside at a bar kind of area, but it was a cold breezy night). My table overlooked the water and I slid over so I could fully enjoy it. It took a while for my server to come to my table, but he seemed to be covering a lot of them, so I cut him a break. After I had the drink menu, it took a while for him to get back to me and this is where the break cutting ended. While I sat there, tables seated after me got water and bread, while I got nothing. My server never asked if I wanted to hear the specials and didnโt try to upsell anything to me. He seemed to be motivated to get me in and out. The other people in the restaurant were being much better taken care of than me. The only reason I didnโt give them a one or two star review was the food and the support staff. The food was amazing, but let me start with my drink. I got the strawberry fields, which was grey goose, strawberry-lemon and lemongrass. It was the perfect mix of sweet and tart. For my main dish, I got the pumpkin tortellini. Iโm not a huge pumpkin fan, but this was superb in a Parmesan cream sauce. I then treated myself to dessert and had crรจme brรปlรฉe. Their choice of toppings were a contradiction, but it didnโt matter since it was delectable. The support staff, busy boys and the like, treated me far better than my server. I gave my server the bare minimum of a tip (yes I know this impacts the support staff). He needs to find a new line of work or learn to treat everyone with the same level of interest and respect.

Fantastic restaurant right on the ocean front, off the PCH. Great food, service and ocean views, a must if you visit Malibu.
Be the first to ReplyBeach vibe, good food in Malibu
We had reservations for 5:15 pm on a Monday. We sat outside. Next time, I think I would choose to sit inside for a closer view of the water and sunset. Those tables seemed to have a more direct view of the setting sun. We saw either dolphins or a whale in the ocean from our table. Neat! The menu is varied, with plenty of seafood. We had grain salad with chicken, free range chicken with mashed potatoes and corn, seafood rigatoni, tuna. We ate calamari for appetizer. The cucumber, mint drink on the menu is very good, as well as selection of beer and wine. The bread basket is very good. Desserts included French chocolate cake with ice cream, rhubarb crunch with ice cream. We enjoyed our meal. Wait staff does a great job. Valet parking only.

We managed to get a table 30 mins before we visited the restaurant. The views were amazing, the food delicious and the service very good. Can't fault it.

I stopped here on a whim. I'm newly retired and took a bucket-list-trip to the L.A. area, Malibu was on the list. I didn't have a reservation but I could sit and eat in the cocktail lounge area, and I had a wonderful view. The food was delicious, the service was wonderful. Ask for server Ben, he'll take good care of you.
Be the first to ReplyAlmost Sunset
Stopped in without a reservation on a Friday and got seated "outside" facing the ocean. We were before the sunset crowd started to arrive but were never rushed. I had soup and my wife and I both had a dessert. Service was outstanding. Valet park is the only option but that was fine and those guys did a nice job too. Just a great experience all around. I didn't give 5 stars simply because we didn't actually eat a meal.

It was our first time in Malibu. Food and service were great. This place offers stunning views. At the end we saw dolphins so close. We really enjoyed everything.

This is a wonderful restaurant on the ocean with a great view. Go at sunset and stay for the very fully lit tide in the shallows below. food is just as good as the view along with the service. We were three people one in a wheelchair with two dogs and everybody could not be nicer. Food is very of inventive and worth the trip. Not cheap but overall reasonable for the quality
Be the first to ReplyGreat view and service, lobster brioche sandwich was meh
First off I will say I'm biased, because the lobster brioche sandwich at Gladstone's, a little farther down the PCH, might just be my favorite meal ever. The lobster brioche sandwich at Moonshadows just didn't compare in the least, though they're the same price. I figured since Moonshadows is currently the #1 restaurant in Malibu all their food must be great and I should try their lobster roll as well- but that wasn't the case.
The Gladstone's lobster brioche has soft flavorful bread, like a brioche should, and the lobster itself is soft, delicious, and perfectly seasoned. The lobster roll at Moonshadows, however, featured a brioche roll that wasn't soft- it resembled toast- and the lobster was rubbery, and the entire filling tasted like celery. Also the coleslaw served with it was very sour, I felt like I was eating arugula coleslaw- maybe it was. Not a flavorful experience. The entire staff was great though, and my drink was good. Plus the open-air balcony they sat me at was literally right over the beach, facing the ocean, fantastic view. I might go back and try something else, but I will not be eating lobster brioches here again.
At last a nice restaurant.
At last a nice restaurant. We definitely recommend. Outstanding location, great service and refined food.

Lots of outdoor dining opportunities, and probably great water views except at night (when we were dining). Service is attentive, and drinks came fairly quickly. Good choices on the menu and nicely plated.
Be the first to ReplyGreat little Gem right on the water.
Great little gem. We usually go to Nobu when in Malibu, but always a problem with reservations and crowds of people wanting to be seen. Decided to try something new, and Moonshadows was just perfect. Right on the water, great food, great service, friendly and low key atmosphere. We had the dungenous crab cake app, lobster Cesar salad and the shrimp and crab salad. All top notch. The restaurant even recognized it was our anniversary and surprised us with a special anniversary desert. Will be back for sure.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food with ocean views.
A friend and I had a wonderful meal at Moonshadows. We were lucky enough to have an oceanside table and the food was great. Our waiter was very attentive and the owner even spent time talking with us Alabama girls. He even gave us a copy of the restaurantโs custom made cd of music. The perfect souvenir to play during our California road trip! Thank you for your hospitality.
Be the first to ReplyLeah / Lee was so rude and disrespectful
On 08/13/2021 time: 8pm. My first time at this restaurant! We made reservations and was so excited for the service; we sat outside on the huge balcony on the corner side of the restaurant outside. We asked the lady name Leah or Lee to take our picture and she rudely said NO IM SO BUSY I DONT HAVE TIME NOW AND WALKED AWAY FROM US! In front of other customers ! So low of this restaurant treating people like this. They need to be sued.
